Letters to the President #1154: 'Speech writer wanted'

Reporter's Note: I write to President Obama every day. He does not respond. That’s ok.

Dear Mr. President,

Do you need any help writing speeches? Not picking sides here, just in case your wondering, but I really enjoy writing and writing for speech is especially fun.

Charles Dickens, as you may know, loved reading his works aloud for audiences and made many tours of various towns (including some in the United States) expressly for that purpose. His readings were enormously popular and he made buckets of money in the process. Obviously that was one attraction for him, but by all accounts he also just seemed to love it.

Truth be told, Dickens was so enamored of the theater he likely would have made a career of the theater if actors were not so frowned upon in his day. So he had to content himself with amateur theatricals and these public readings of his stories.

In any event, I’ve often found that one of the better ways to check the flow of my own writing is to read it aloud. Which makes we think about speeches. Which makes me think about speech writing. And here we are.

Anyway, if you need some help putting your speeches together (or if any of your Republican foes do…ha!) give me a call. I won’t pass judgment on anyone’s politics, but I do love crafting a sentence for delivery.

Call if you have a moment.

Regards,
Tom
