Reporter's Note: I write to President Obama every day. He has yet to write back. But I’m thinking, maybe some day soon…
Dear Mr. President,
So we ended up stopping yet another lone wolf intent on blowing up the U.S. Capitol. Sounds like pretty good police work tracking him down, and God bless the folks who did it. I know that one day, in all likelihood, someone will succeed with one of these terrible attacks again, because it just seems impossible that we’ll be able to stop everything forever. But the bad news did not come this weekend, so that’s good.
Meanwhile, looks like you’re on a bit of a roll this Presidents Day Weekend! Polls looking better. Congress bending a bit to your will. And heaven knows the Republicans seem to be doing all they can to get you re-elected. Ha!
I can’t say for certain, but you look more relaxed, more confident lately, and I tend to think that is a good thing in a president. When it comes to leadership, success undeniably breeds success. And when a nation’s leader is successful, if his heart is in the right place, that can make the country more successful, too.
Now, I realize there is a little chicken and egg activity at work here; does the leader become more confident because things are going well, or do things start going well because the leader instills confidence? I always feel it has to be a combination of both. In any event, I hope if you are feeling more positive and invigorated this weekend, that it translates into better days for the country as a whole, because Americans all over…whatever their politics…could use a little confidence boost.
Call if you get a moment. I’m around this weekend.
Anderson Cooper goes beyond the headlines to tell stories from many points of view, so you can make up your own mind about the news. Tune in weeknights at 8 and 10 ET on CNN.
