In this preview, Anderson Cooper asks environmental advocate Erin Brockovich why she's looking into a medical mystery affecting girls in Le Roy, NY. Watch the full interview on Monday, Jan. 30 at 8 and 10 p.m. ET on AC360.
Anderson: Most of these girls, if not all are pulling your chain for publicity. I am an expert on body language and you have lots of fakers my friend, in Le Roy NY !
It doesn't make sense to me. If this is some sort of environmental problem why would this only be effecting these girls and no boys?
Not sure if you'll read this Mr. Cooper, but it might be of benefit to these girls to have these girls tested for anti NMDA receptor encephalitis. I've seen a couple cases of it here in Georgia
Has anyone asked the question why only young girls show those symtoms. Are there any male victims as well? And also is it only in this age group??
Regarding the teenage girls who have been affected with these symptoms.......why no boys????
Have any of these girls got the Gardisil shot?
Anderson, intrigued by this story...can I throw a suggestion in?
Could these symptoms be connected to BSE/CJD (Mad Cow Disease)...might this group of friends have been big meat eaters? I know America has a lot of hamburger joints etc, & experts know this disease is just waiting to break out in thousands of young people especially in the developed countries. there are a lot of symptoms & shaking & seizures is part of them. & the sad thing about this disease is that it doesn't discriminate between old & young. It's just a point of view I put across...that I feel might/should be investigated.
Hope the answers come fast for these youngsters; & hope the questions are answered in a good way for them.
The mystery illness is classic for common exposure to a common problem in epidemiology. Hopefully they can track the exposure down and find a common thread for all the young girls.
Anderson, have you contacted the doctor who has been treating most of the students suffering from these tics? If you are an "investigative" journalist, I would think that he would have been one of your first guests. Instead, this evening, you have spoken with Dr. Drew, who has not "studied" all of the students and Erin Brockovich who arrived in Leroy without informing the schoo/townl she was even coming.
Please don't sensationalize this problem any more than it has been. Please have the treating dorctor from Dent Neurological Institute and the school principal and/or superintendent on your show so that the nation will be given the information that they have to share. If not, the few students who have been on TV will seem to be the norm.
This evening, on our local news, it was reported that several of those who were experiencing these tics have improved with the treatment they have been receiving.
I knew it! Thanks for digging deeper 360. I was feeling frustrated, on the girls behalf, that so many people seemed to be shrugging their shoulders. Thank goodness for people like Erin Brockovich!
Anderson Cooper goes beyond the headlines to tell stories from many points of view, so you can make up your own mind about the news. Tune in weeknights at 8 and 10 ET on CNN.
