Tonight on AC360: Penn State coach who saw alleged sex assault placed on leave

University Park, Pennsylvania (CNN) - The Penn State football coach who alerted head coach Joe Paterno in 2002 that he'd seen a former coach sexually assault a boy - an allegation that law enforcement authorities didn't learn of until years later - was placed on "indefinite" leave Friday, the school interim president said.

Mike McQueary, who was a graduate assistant in 2002 and later became a full-time coach, is the latest casualty in a scandal that has included the arrest of the man he allegedly witnessed assault the boy, riots in State College and the ouster of Paterno and the university's president.

McQueary in recent months told a grand jury that he saw Jerry Sandusky, now 67, sexually assault a boy at the campus's football complex in 2002. He said he had reported the incident to Paterno, who in turn alerted Athletic Director Timothy Curley, Pennsylvania Attorney General Linda Kelly said earlier this week.

I have a question for Mike McQueary...he now claims that the Grand Jury got it wrong, that he did stop the rape of victim 1, really??? The Grand jury got it wrong?? wasn't it Mike McQueary who testified to the Grand Jury that he heard the noises, saw Sandusky raping the child, and turned around, walked away and called Daddy??? and wasn't it Daddy McQueary that advised him to leave immediately instead of telling him to go back in there and stop the rape, and call the police?? And, really should anyone have to tell a 23 year old man to stop another man from raping a child????? Honestly, I know 3 year olds who have more intelligence and courage than Mike McQueary and his father. So the question now becomes did Mike McQueary lie to the Grand Jury? Or is he lying to himself and all of us when he states he stopped the rape. His sudden presence in the showers may have stopped the rape but not because he acted like a man and went in there and confronted Sandusky. How sad, it may have been his one opportunity to make a difference in a child's life, and he walked away....what a coward. he should never be allowed to work within any atheletic system again.

As horrible as the Penn State situation is, and it IS horrible, I wish people would care half as much about the children who are abused mining diamonds and working in sweat shops. Everyone goes on buying diamonds and Nikes. I think it may be a bit hypocritcal. We should care about ALL children and not carry on for days about some and ignore all the others who are being tortured and tormented on a regular basis.

There's so much focus on if/why McQueary didn't tell authorities (which I'm not convinced he didn't.) But what I don't understand is why he didn't stop the rape and protect the child!

Jerry Sandusky, Joe Paterno and his son Scott are three disgusting examples of human beings. Sandusky and Joe should both be incarcerated. This is an example where the truth is covered up for individual reputations. If Joe Paterno was a true example, he would have notified the police immediately. Scott is just as bad for defending his father. Joe Paterno should be charged with obstructing justice. This is a good example of how warped society is today. We moan and cry about the economy, but pay millions of dollars to people like this. The public buys the tickets and watches the games. Out of work, go to a ball game!

I can't believe McQueary is on paid leave. Our son went to Penn State from 1998 to 2003 and we are appalled to think that our sons tuition money helped to pay these peoples salaries. These coaches certainly dropped the ball on this one.

Anderson, has anyone inquired as to how this man got his job? If he witnessed this crime and knew there was a coverup, he had a lot of ammunition to pretty much get anything he wanted from the University!

Anderson, why is there no action taken against the DA for Center County, PA to whom one of the cases were reported, and, to where there was an eyewitness (the Janitor in the GJ Report)but the DA dropped or did not pursue the case?
