Letters to the President: #920 'God's approval rating'

Reporter's Note: President Obama has often spoken about his faith. He has, however, never spoken about my letters. Ah well.

Dear Mr. President,

Call it intuition, call it a sixth sense, call it what you will, but I have a feeling that this debt limit deal you have been so eagerly awaiting is just around the corner. I can’t say if it will be the kind of plan you have wanted so much, but at this point anything that keeps the sky from falling is going to be greeted with some relief I suspect.

That said I want to mention something else: Did you see this poll about God’s approval rating? Apparently this survey by Public Policy Polling found that only 52 percent of the people questioned approve of the job God is doing, 40 percent aren’t sure what to think, and 9 percent disapprove.

I realize that I joke around a lot here, but I mean no disrespect in bringing this up. (Especially if, as some theologians say, God sees all. Of course, I may be trouble on that account anyway ...) The simple fact is I think this poll tells us more about ourselves than it does about God anyway. I think it says that we are in some pretty rough times and it is hard to be faithful, hopeful, and positive when so much seems to be going wrong. I think it says belief can be difficult, and even more so when we wonder where and how the hand of God will appear to set things right. I interviewed a rabbi about this poll and he said, “I’m surprised God’s approval rating was so high.”

I’m not sure what I would have said to such a survey. How do I feel about how God is doing? I don’t know. Seems like an awfully big question. Kind of like, “How do you feel about everything?” Come to think of it, I guess we hear a version of that question all the time. Someone gets onto the elevator, or passes you on the street and says, “How’s it going?” My usual answer is “Great.” So I suppose that is how I would answer this survey as well, because Heaven knows someone…or something…beyond me deserves most of the credit for all the good things I see in the world even in difficult times.

I guess the question that would interest me more is this: How does God feel I am doing? That, I think, is an approval rating that matters.

Call if you get a moment.

Regards,
Tom

Tom, the President may not read your letters. This was my first and last time. The President is far too busy to waste his time on your utter non-sense.

By chance if , President Obama reads this one; I would surely have him not consider your rhetoric. I would always tell him to pray on every matter, even if he thinks GOD is not listening. I would, also, remind him that we don't have to vote GOD in and we would not vote you in. Mr. President needs our prayers, our votes and our support for him and his mission. We know the Republicans are stonewalling and as they say "trying to stop him from doing his job, which is lead the country." I have always been confident that he has always done the best that he can do and I have every belief and trust that he always will. GOD bless The President of the United States of America.

Dear Mr. President Obama, greetings to you & yours! "What I say unto one, I say unto all, Watch as well as pray" is what our pastor have the congregation to repeat after him at the end of every service we have. I said that, to say this, keep your eye on Jesus Christ, the one who is able to fix every problem, situation, circumstance & life problems, so just hold your head up high & say "hallelujah anyhow"! Pray, pray, pray & pray some more & when you've done all you can you just stand! In words of scripture"Ephesians 6;10-24", (vs.11) "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." Mr. President, I am praying for you & staff and our troops to be brought home saved and safe from all danger, evil, hurt & harm, so please trust God and he will direct thy path and "DO WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO TO HELP THE LESS FORTUNATE"!!!!!!! w / love & prayers josephine childress & family!!!!!!!!!!!!!! aka ms. jo!

Americans should quit worrying about approval rating altogether and start to work hard with honesty. The former, better Americans cared principles, not popularity.

People in america need to help pay for the deficit, we are the ones that put these people in government. I will start a revolution to fire any congress or senate employee's just like in texas where I can be fired at any moment employment at will. I will start a revolution to fire these people from governemnt. Does the tea party runs the governmnt; how about my other parties whites, blacks, asian, korean, etc if that is the case then lets all make a party to get what we want. I will start a revoluton to fire all the government from congress and senate enough is enough
