Congressman says he did not post lewd photo on Twitter

(CNN) - A liberal Democratic congressman who came under fire for a lewd photo that briefly appeared on his Twitter account over the weekend told CNN Wednesday that he did not post the image.

Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner spoke to CNN's Wolf Blitzer a day after a contentious exchange with reporters in which he refused to directly answer any questions about the picture.

On Wednesday he said he had hired a law firm to look into the matter. But he declined to directly answer whether he appeared in the photo.

"Photos can be manipulated. Photos can be of one thing and changed to something else. We're going to try to get to the bottom of what happened," he said. The photo showed the lower body of a man wearing underwear.

A conservative blogger who broke the story has called for a full investigation of what he said was either the hacking of a congressman's account or something Weiner wants to hide.

But Weiner told CNN he did not think such steps are necessary to deal with what he said was internet spam, an issue that many Americans face.

Anderson, come on let this to rest. Lewd photo, you can see more at the beach. I would be more concern in my tax dollars being miss spent.

Can hardly wait for tomorrow night's episode of "The Anthony Weiner Inquisition". Meanwhile, was there a tornado in Massachusetts? Were suspected terrorists arrested in Kentucky? Is anyone out there interested in actually hearing some news?

You guys are pros that took good news time acting like TMZ.

I still don't see how it isn't glaringly obvious what he is doing. He's using this to promote his name, to get name recognition, why do you think he is so willing to be interviewed? Why do you think he's not answering your questions, yet he still stays in front of the cameras. Any true journalist can see the real story, and its kind of sad that CNN has let itself become Wieners reelection promoter.

Come on people-Lets worry about important things like the budget, health care, jobs, social security and leave this matter to the Congressman and his wife. This has nothing to do with any of us. Would you like for people to give you marital advice, where you should eat etc. etc. Get my drift. Mind your own business. Jenny from Peculiar Missouri

Have we nothing better to discuss ? Come on with three wars, and a possible fourth with Syria, the economy, not to mention no jobs do we really need to be talking about a congressman's supposed penis pic from his personal computer? Our country is last on everything, and dead broke.
The only people getting ahead are the CEOS that screwed us into this mess.
Can we stop with the side tracks and get to the issues? No wonder the Europeans and the rest of the world thinks we are childish behind the times and immature. We get all upset when we see a nipple on a breast on a TV NFL Show. In Sweden they show full on nudity on commercials .
For a country founded on freedom from religion, we are idiots, this country is run by the moral high christian right wing values. We are bamboozled once again, it is no wonder why the republicans keep making our public education further and further behind to keep us stupid while their children attend the best schools money can buy.
