@ Martha,,my point exactly. The national debt was $11 trillion when Pres Bush left office. It is now just over 14 but has to include the continuance of Pres. Bush's two wars along with all that was need to try and get us back on track with the financial situation

I am really worried about Eman's emotional health.
Aside from the tauma of being gang raped, this constant terror inflicted upon her whenever she goes outside is really damaging.

Thank you Anderson et al for keeping Eman's story alive & NO We will not forget her, ever!

A lot of the social programs or the so called "entitlements," originated out of needs created by lack of inflation adjusted income growths to different cohorts, industries, etc., at different times.

Yes, I agree...... It was former president Bush was so messy up our budget!!!!!!!!!!

I find it ironic that those who voted to raise the debt level are not complaining about our debt level! Goodness

Could liquid nitrogen, which evaporates at air temperature, have prevented the melting of the cores and therefore avoided part of this catastrophe? I think this is a good question for the International Atomic Energy Agency. As the temperatures would have fallen. And would it have been technically feasable. On another note what are scientists saying about California as the tectonic plates move?

The Patriot Guard Riders join to escort our fallen hero's and stand flag lines at their various service. Watching the Rep.s last week trying to force a bill through to extend the argument one week, while insuring military pay for 6 months all based on the elimination of Planned Parenthood was just appalling.

very interesting discussion – theoretically the debt ceiling could not be raised – but it takes a certain type of experience to know whether or not a theoretical situation is actually realistic – really enjoyed that discussion

The Japanese government should allow people or to go back and save their pets! These innocent animals are surely going to starve to death. It breaks my heart to see the beagle puppy tied up with no food and water and the cats locked inside a house. I hope that the journalist rescued them. There must be so many abandoned pets inside that evacuation zone! Anderson please highlight the animals that are abandoned so they will all will be rescued.

@Megan – thanks for the info on animal (dog) shelters.

I just can't agree with Dana, she comes across with "my way & the highway" kind of attitude.

David G. the voice of reason as always.I also agree with David G. on no real "winners" on last weeks negotiations.

& Cornell makes good sense as well.

@Anderson, thanks for recognizing David G.'s apprent frustation with Dana's remarks (i think).
    Terrific panel discussion!

I heard that Obama and the Dems are coming out this week with their deficit reduction plan. It apparently has a balanced approach with both cuts to Medicare and others but also reforms to the Tax Code, specifically closing loop holes for the wealthy. Sounded good, will be anxious to see it.

@Lori, that is true! But it's amazing how during election time they're all about rising above politics, how they're different and will be objective and for the people. Once they're elected or re-elected, they show their true colors. It's a wonder to me how everyone forgets that every election cycle. You'd think we'd have learned by now.
