Man who wrote 'how-to' for pedophiles arrested

CNN Wire Staff

(CNN) - The man behind a controversial book considered a "how-to" guide for pedophiles was arrested in Colorado, officials in Florida said Monday.

"You cannot engage or depict children in a harmful relationship," said Polk County, Florida, Sheriff Grady Judd as he described the Florida obscenity statute that officials used to charge Phillip Greaves with distribution of obscene material depicting minors engaged in harmful conduct.

The self-published author was arrested in Pueblo, Colorado, on a Florida felony warrant after undercover detectives in Polk County purchased and received a copy of the book through the mail. He will have to be extradited to Florida to face charges.

Judd said the book was Greaves' last copy, which he autographed before sending out.

Greaves and his book, "The Pedophile's Guide to Love and Pleasure: A Child-Lover's Code of Conduct," gained national attention earlier this year after Amazon.com defended selling the book on its website despite angry comments and threats of boycotts from thousands of users.

Amazon pulled the book from its site in early November.

It's simple.. Greaves is guity of a crime! The guy has a mental problem. It's not just words..in a book. I personally think the publishers' of this book sure be in jail too. Amazon has no clue on what's being sold on their website. Should we say the book "Mein Kampf" is just words in a book..? Stop hiding behind the Constition when it comes to the Law!

Dear AC 360 and Sanjay and Toomey.
If you write a story even about an act which is a crime throughout the United States i.e Pedophilia, how can that not amount to Incitement/conspiracy or coercion to commit the crime of pedophilia to other pedophiliacs?
I go back to something very simple instead of the extreme interpretation of " freedom of speech" that the media prefers. First it must be legal, second, decent ( you can add honest and truthful to cover/protect scientific publications or media stories where fact is fully checked and often peer reviewed before publication.)
The supreme court narrowness that only photographic data of Pedophilia is against freedom of specch is another Citizens United Faux pas!! A picture does not actually speak for gods sake, especially if the perpetrators pedophilic face, organs or whatever are not shown/identifiable.
Typical American Sematic legalistic talk which Mr and Mrs average hate.
Poke county, put this man in Jail and never let him out!!
    Regards,
    Hodgson.
P.S. conduct a poll and you'll find a huge vote in favor of the above.

The constitutional right of a person should be taken away when it involves crimes against children. These rapist story tellers lost their right the moment they wrote, videoed, or did an evil act against a child. God says to protect the little children and to cause no harm unto them. Are we really protecting them?

Harsh federal laws should be established to protect all children from such evil predators. The children have no voice and no hope if people argue about the constitutional right of person who has forever harmed a child.

My, lord the constitution should be revised. After all, it was written in a time before the internet and before child rapers and abusers could pollute the world with their evil. These men consisted of men in their era, well what about our era? Shouldn’t new constitutional laws be written and old laws removed or changed to account for our current generation of people?

If: Phillip Greaves was charged with distribution of obscene material depicting minors engaged in harmful conduct, is there a law for everyone who bought the book to get charged also?

I am so glad at the arrest of this man and absolutely appalled that he could go to such lengths to write a book. I know the police will do there job and let him hang himself somemore. Honestly this is such, a out of control sickness in America, as well as every other Nation. Where is the punishment, that not only makes them regret what they have done, but also prevents them from even carrying it out. We need stronger convictions and steeeper penalties, hell forget penalties just brutal justice. Coming from someone who has had to live with the fact that a pedophile can abuse and will abuse and continue to get away with it. Lets try to do something to protect or many vunerable children who have had to live with this nightmare, that never goes away. You have a voice, the victims do not.

Thanks a lot to the Florida sheriff for bringing this sick creep to the world's attention. If not for this action, he would have probably just crawled back under the same rock he came out of. Now he's a worldwide celebrity. This is perhaps the stupidest law enforcement action of the year. Nice job.
