Playing Politics with Children: Join the Live Chat

Members of Congress are playing politics with children's futures. 1,200 orphans being adopted by American families have been waiting for months for a crucial vote in the House that would make them U.S. citizens. The bill has bipartisan support, but a vote has been mysteriously delayed. Plus, tonight's other headlines.

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

@Gloria: lemurs are part of the primate order

I wonder if the animal kingdom knows that each different animal has a certain level of intelligence, etc?

i know the show is on – but i actually have never watched it (i really don't watch a lot of tv)

That is my favorite actor movie star Steve Segal...... Now what up with him,?????

Are lemurs part of the monkey family?

    November 19, 2010 at 10:52 pm |
  25. Emily

    @Lori,
    "Lemurs have very interesting eyes"
That's what I was thinking, looking that them.
Looks like there is much going on behind those eyes.

    November 19, 2010 at 10:52 pm |
  26. Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio

It makes you wonder how the lemurs would apply that ability in the wild.

    November 19, 2010 at 10:51 pm |
  27. Sue R. Canton MI.

I like the Lemurs. I think that all animals have some form of intelligence. I'm not to sure about the fact that they don't like to gamble though.

Is anyone going to investigate Duke University for over- exposing lemurs to computer games? 😉

@Anderson, i have truly enjoyed your special on animals and intelligence this week and look forward to more.

Lemur's are adorable, but i had no idea about how smart they are with numbers! Wow, the tests are pretty sophisticated too!

Thank you Randi-Kaye for your most excellent reporting on this series.

i think a lot of animals have a lot of skills that we do not even think about – i mean they live mostly on instinct – likely those that don't "get it" have a lower chance of surviving so they inadvertently clear out their own gene pools over time

    November 19, 2010 at 10:50 pm |
  31. Sharon Hastings

Wow, I had no idea that lemurs were studied like this. My grandson Jack will definitely want to know about this. I can't believe the math knowledge. I'm assuming they wouldn't buy a lottery ticket, huh?

    November 19, 2010 at 10:50 pm |
  32. Nina

It boggles the mind why people are amazed at animal intelligence. We always seem to think that we have the market cornered!

    November 19, 2010 at 10:50 pm |
  33. Emily

Wow, they are not 'gamblers', are they?

    November 19, 2010 at 10:50 pm |
  34. Karoline, Los Angeles

Ah...they like consistency. A good survival skill no doubt.

I think we have now done what Al Quida wanted: disrupted our country, made us so fearful that is a lot of what we talk about and now our children can be fearful too when flying. Fear is a terrible thing and I think it is time to remind ourselves that 'the only thing we have to fear is fear itself'. Do these screenings even detect the type of explosives worn by the xmas day bombing attempt, it is my understanding they do not?
