Mich. Asst. AG takes voluntary leave: Join the live chat

Tonight on 360, the Michigan Assistant Attorney General who's been targeting a gay University of Michigan student has taken a voluntary leave of absence. We'll have the latest. And closing arguments were made today in the chilling Connecticut home invasion case. We'll have what was said today in court as well as legal minds Jeffrey Toobin and Sonny Hostin to talk about punishment and the death penalty.

Scroll down to join the live chat during the program. It's your chance to share your thoughts on tonight's headlines. Keep in mind, you have a better chance of having your comment get past our moderators if you follow our rules.

Here are some of them:

1) Keep it short (we don't have time to read a "book")
2) Don't write in ALL CAPS (there's no need to yell)
3) Use your real name (first name only is fine)
4) No links
5) Watch your language (keep it G-rated; PG at worst - and that includes $#&*)

    Some days it is hard to do but When you are told youve saved a life it is pretty hard to stop what you are doing.

    Oh Nancy!!!
    I hate to read that! 😦 I hope that you would call someone, even if it was a "help line" before you were to EVER jump off of a bridge!
    They really are heartbreaking stories.

    I don't understand why the MI Asst. AG is able to take a voluntary leave of absence. The AG should have fired him. Seems to me our politicians need to have a lot more backbone as far as setting examples of what is acceptable behavior. It's bad enough our young people face bullying from peers let alone the AG ?!? Especially in the light of the recent teen suicides...we cannot afford to lose another life in such a tragic and totally preventable way.

    @ Megan, yes, the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii. You can see the waves over shadowing homes during winter storms.

    I really wonder, Emily. Can't help but wonder how they are feeling....and how what they did will impact their lives. I think if it were me, I'd be tempted to jump off the bridge myself now, knowing what I'd done.

    Kevin, I'm sure it's true. Not just domestic violence but all sorts of forms of harassment, at work or at home.

    @Isabel,
    "And the consequences for the lives of those suffer on bullying is incalculable."
    Oh, are they indeed! Thank goodness for Crisis & Distress Lines that take calls from people that have no one or need someone to talk to.

    Such bigotry as is shown by Mr. Shirvel simply can not be tolerated in our society. Anyone tolerating such blase hatred is in essence condoning it.

    Hi everyone, sorry to tune in so late–babysitting for a 2 yr old and a 6 yr. old and with that demographic I'm sorry to say that Blues Clues trumps AC360:)

    Sounds like it was some interesting topics. I'll catch up on comments. Hope you all have a great weekend and a safe one.

    @ Kevin Epling October 1st, 2010 10:45 pm ET

    @ Nina you are right and one of the best ways to counter the bullying culture is to engage students on the overall anti-bullying plan. They want it to stop.

    Beautifully stated and so true. As the bullying is not only in school, but as Anderson Cooper stated, on their cell phones, facebook, etc. They have no safe haven. Very tragic.

    @Isabel Hi nice to see you.

    I don't see how with the level of involvement of both in the crime there's not culpability for both.

    Did the police have a chance to stop Mrs. Petit from returning to her house?

    @Nancy,
    I wonder if those students are feeling anything, unless something happened to them...something tells me that they may not care what the other person feels, or they wouldn't do that to begin with.

    Truly so, Isabel. And one would have to really watch carefully and honestly that one didn't turn around and do it to others, in some form.
