New Terror Threat: Join the Live Chat

Tonight we have breaking news on the growing concerns about an Al Qaeda commando attack, with gunmen on city streets, storming hotels, mowing down anyone in their path. If you remember the attacks on Mumbai this would be the sequel. We've got the latest on where officials fear it could happen, and where the killers could be coming from.

Bishop Long may have a lot of power and influence, but his accusers should have the right to make a stand and be heard.

did the pastor actually say that the claims were false, or that they just did not portray him correctly?

Great that no one else was killed at U of Texas today.

Hmm another religious figure and a sex scandal...what's new? Still happens and people still follow that religion. And indeed Bishop Long is a monster.

How long was the perimeter in effect and didn't the police have listening devices that would allow them to at least hear what was going on in the house?

    @JoAnn – OH

I agree with you completly...these criminals deserve the death penalty.

And, not only is the trial expensive, but there will be years of appeals for the death penalty, while our taxes pay for their food and housing.

Perhaps they will see justice within the jail system....other inmates may not be fans.

That was very strong testimony from this young man.

great in your face questions ac. amazing the blantant ignorance and bigotery the asst ag showed in terms of equality and fair equal treatment of all people. Its not right that this person holds and occupies an office that is suppose to be responsible for legal advising to the government. ... and he was talking about nazi and swasticas ?! huh? haha

That is why the death penalty "threat" is meaningless. These criminals know that it will take years before it is administered and before then, the law could change and Connecticut could do away with the death penalty.

Then they would get life in prison and possibly even be up for parole. Look at the Manson Family.

@Emily and Jo Ann, you are both right, they deserve the death penalty..
But i am also still thinking how these guys were never signaled as being this dangerous, they have been in jail before.

A good soap opera. But what's the national relevance of the Bishop Long story?

I say move these guys to the front of the line when it comes to executing them! Don't make them wait 10 yrs or so. send them to Texas, they will do it!

As I said before, this crime just makes me hurt to know that fellow human beings can be this evil. This has horrified the whole country.

These guys both deserve the death penalty. It is just too bad so much taxpayer money and time is being wasted on defending these monsters.

You are so absolutely right, JoAnn!

"These guys both deserve the death penalty."
At the very least, if they are found guilty.

This crime is so sickening. To think that tax dollars pay for the roof over their head and food in their stomach is discusting.

I am sure they will have alot of psychologists on hand for everyone who was involved with this case, jurors and all

@ Heather these people who commit such crimes often have a narcistic personality, (they always blame others) scary people

    I hate this Petit case!!

I am appalled that it was suggested the the father, Dr. Petit was involved. Thank God no one is giving that remark any attention.

Thank you Jeff Toobin for qualifying the truthfulness from "jail house snitches".

It is heartbreaking that one of the daughters died from smoke inhalation.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:45 pm |

I agree with Jeffrey Toobin...jailhouse snitches are not reliable. This case is so disgusting.

Good evening everyone. Had computer problems last night, sorry to be late tonight.

Its interesting how when people commit crimes they are obviously guilty of will throw anyone they can under the bus and blame everything else besides themselves for their crime instead of just admitting that they did it.

That home invasion just sounds downright messed up. I heard about this from my sociology professor and I was awestruck. The mom was so strong to do that just to go home and be beat to death and raped. What was going through those young men's minds?

I really do not believe any information given by an inmate.

I thought there is supposed to be a separation between church and state. Seems to be too much emphisis on the religion of he President and religion in politics as a whole. Is the US being taken over by the radical religious right?

    September 28, 2010 at 10:40 pm |
  37. Ryan

Find him and see what he has to say and what lame excuses he can pull out of his bag!!

And about the president's faith, don't get how that really relates to anything. It's overrated anyways.

Mr. Shirvell's behavior is unacceptable. His actions are very irresponsible and unbecoming of a public official. If there's anyone who should be under scrutiny, it should be Mr. Shirvell. I highly doubt that he can rightly perform his duties as Asst. AG, given that he's clearly a bigot. Mr. Shirvell is attacking Mr. Armstrong for being gay!

  39. jackie

The woman questioning Obama's faith sounded like a Republican planted to stir the dust.

am so glad that you shared this story. I can't believe this has been going on unchecked. this kind of behavior is just SO WRONG, and absolutely unacceptable from a public official. (what kind of oath did this public offical take when he took office?) I hope Chris Armstrong pursues legal channels for cyber bullying/ slander/ stalking... the state AG needs to dismiss Shirvell. I'd be curious as to what the talk out in Michian is... is anyone speaking up about this out there?

    September 28, 2010 at 10:38 pm |

Looks like there were only about 20 people at that event with Obama... How cool!

Why would Congressman Bishop want to come on the show. Its quite clear that the truth about how the scholarship funds have been abused have been exposed.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:35 pm |
  45. Michael Bismarck, ND

I also feel that the AG assistant needs to maybe lighten up and take a vacation. He really needs one I think. Unpaid of course.......

I really liked the answer the President gave about his Christianity.

These scholarship funds sould like they need to be monitored as so many Representatives seem to be confused about the "rules" as to who is qualified to receive one of these scholarships.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:35 pm |
  48. Emily

So now Congressman Bishop has run for cover?
    Perhaps he's with Christine O'Donnell.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:35 pm |
  49. Bob

While it may be true that the Assistant AG is doing this outside of his work environment, his conduct here is sufficiently deplorable that he should be terminated from his employment. There have been other cases where people were fired (legally) because of their public behaviour reflecting dishonourably upon their employer. If he were posting similar messages attacking people because of their race or religion, he'd have been gone already, and no one would have batted an eye.
