New Terror Threat: Join the Live Chat

Tonight we have breaking news on the growing concerns about an Al Qaeda commando attack, with gunmen on city streets, storming hotels, mowing down anyone in their path. If you remember the attacks on Mumbai this would be the sequel. We've got the latest on where officials fear it could happen, and where the killers could be coming from.

I think the new terror threat could be linked to the Israeli now again may build on Palestinian ground. They piss of all radical muslims with that. Wish they would listen to president Obama and work towards peace

What a bunch of weirdos this world has in it. Scares the crap out of me.

Judy, if Mike Cox has an elected position, maybe he won't win another term after this gets out? Jeff Toobin said Cox won't fire the guy.. Sad.

Thank you for "outing" this man and his harassment. Maybe the community will harass the AG into firing him.

Andrew Shirvell... I vote him the COMPLETE idiot for 2010. How can Mike Cox not see his employee is insanely out of control, defamation of character, terrorist activity, gross conduct unbecoming a public official. Bottomline – he hates Gay people, Shirvell is a coward....Free Speech does NOT give anyone the right to terrorize an innocent individual.

Thank you Anderson for bringing the Michigan story to national attention.

Mr. Shirvell is one of the people that makes me disgusted to live in the state of Michigan. His attacks against Chris Armstrong are unwarranted and should be met with a pink slip. The taxpayers of Michigan shouldn't have to pay the salary of such a blatant bigot.

its people like this man and his comments that make gay young people feel like they don't deserve to live. Mr Shirvell would have no issue with this young man if he was not gay. An official thats a disgrace

The fact that he called himself a "Christian citizen" kills me. Christians participate in a life of love- not harsh criticism and hatred. He clearly does have some "hate" in his body because he is using hate symbols as way to target his opposer. Since when do political campaigns include hate crimes?

I live in Michigan and was shocked at our assistant AG's remarks. Mike Cox, stand up and fire this guy!

  13. Chad

Wow, what a bizarre story. Shervall (sp?) really seems like someone who could snap and do some harm to that kid.

Another great line of questioning by AC.

This makes me wonder how malicious lies can be said by opponents and their supporters of anyone running for or in public office without proof. We have seen it on both sides of the aisle time and time again on news programs and in print.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:18 pm |
  15. Heather - Spokane, WA

I found it interesting that he kept saying that he would not answer any questions pertaining to his job......he is in a public office! He just tied his job into this just by what he is doing to this student! How can he not be expected to be asked questions about his public position?

    September 28, 2010 at 10:18 pm |
  16. michelle

Isn't this abuse of powers ? A public official should
never be able to do this to ordinary citizens. How is
the student a political opponent, Did he lose the
    election to Armstrong.

  17. Nancy in Oregon

I agree, Emily. It's also a very desperate tactic....trying to evoke the most horrific images in order to influence people, especially emotionally.

  18. Michael GUZMAN

Glad to see you covering this issue Anderson! This AG Assistant should not be kept a civil servant.

Thank you for your clear straight forward coverage and questioning of this man.

Mr.Shervil certainly is frightening, sounds like a robot and is an embarrassment to the Republican party. How did he even get elected, he needs to be fired immediately.
There is no place for such bigotry in our Country.
This man is dangerous in his thinking and his speech.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:17 pm |
  20. Emily

    @Nicole The Netherlands,
"`I don´t have any hate in my body at all`"

Yes, and then he started to talk about God, children of God...very scary guy.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:16 pm |
  21. Ryan

AS a college student, the actions of Mr. Shervil are quite ridiculous. This kid is 21 and president of a student council and openly gay. So whats the problem? I just don't understand people nowadays and some of the things people talk about? Does Shervil not have anything else more important that his time should be devoted to?

    September 28, 2010 at 10:16 pm |
  22. mike

come on this guy has every right to free speech that you and have , now the choice he is making may very well bring in an aspect of conflict. he may not be able to do his job effectively if he is so biased he has to let the whole world know about it.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:16 pm |
  23. Mike - Las Vegas

How about grow up and leave the kid alone. What a creep. Michigan, I'll bet you're proud. We're laughing at ya!

  24. Starr, formerly known as vincent

    Hurray for Jeff Toobin!!

Good point about Mike Cox – this assist. ag needs to be either seriously chastised or fired.

Good point about harrassment, libel, stalking, so many other possibilities for legal action for the student to take.

This is one of the craziest stories lately.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:16 pm |
  25. Sharon Hastings

What an embarrassment to the State of Michigan and particularly after this program with his appearance and statements that he made. If this is what "family values" produces, we are in big trouble in this country!!!!!!!

    September 28, 2010 at 10:16 pm |
  26. Willow

Mr. Shervil is creepy, and he's obsessed. He's going after one person in a vicious fashion, smearing him online and posting vicious personal attacks online. This is cyber-bullying. As a college student in Ann Arbor, I stand by Chris Armstrong. He was elected by his peers to a position, so he should lead and follow his campaign platform. End of story.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:15 pm |
  27. Janis Hewitt

He's right. As an employee of the government you represent the citizens and you can't do anything you want in most places. Shervill is using the system.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:15 pm |
  28. Mark!

    This is crazy story!!

    September 28, 2010 at 10:15 pm |
  29. Libby

I agree Heather! Fired, but maybe he should also be sent to counseling..

    September 28, 2010 at 10:15 pm |
  30. Shelly from Pensacola

Is beyond cyber bullying when this man goes to "protest" at the victim's home.

It raises to the level of Stalking depending on the state's satutes.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:14 pm |
  31. Emily

Why hasn't Mr. Cox fired him?
Sounds like Mr. Shervil is abusing his position (even if in his spare time).
I hope that Mr. Armstrong sues successfully.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:14 pm |
  32. Nicole The Netherlands

Did you all hear him say `I don´t have any hate in my body at all`

    September 28, 2010 at 10:14 pm |
  33. Kaytee

Fire him – conduct unbecoming of a state official, period.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:14 pm |

Honestly, you ever paid attention to student class president in college. I went to Rutgers and had no idea who was out president.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:13 pm |

@Libby, he needs to be fired and charges need to be pressed against him

    September 28, 2010 at 10:13 pm |
  37. Bob

Just watching this interview, Mr. Shirvell is in dire need of help and a little soul searching may be helpful also. This guy is still employed as a state official, I blame his boss.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:13 pm |
  38. Libby

Good point by Jeffrey Toobin! Why hasn't the Michigan AG fired him??

    September 28, 2010 at 10:13 pm |
  39. Ted

Who's the real radical? The Mich Att Gen. Or the Mich student. Sounds like a really ticked off, jealous gay Atty. Gen.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:13 pm |

I like that Asst.AG I think he's cool for standing by his convictions.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:12 pm |

Well, then stop protesting. It is not fixing!

    September 28, 2010 at 10:12 pm |

This guy is too weird for me.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:12 pm |
  46. Jane from Texas

I would like to know if the Asst. AG in MI that is attacking this college student belongs to any prayer cell conducted by "The Family" or any of its affiliates. People beware of this group. This attack is nothing but pure hatred and discrimination in is strongest form.

    September 28, 2010 at 10:11 pm |
  47. Libby

Heather, I wonder if he was elected or appointed? Good question!

    September 28, 2010 at 10:11 pm |
  48. Sue R. Canton MI.

Wow,,I live in MI. near Ann Arbor and I never heard this story. This behavior is truly unacceptable.
The behavior of some of our leadership angers me......Yes Anderson I do believe he is a "cyber bully".

    @Nancy in Oregon,
I really think that people abuse certain terms and words, etc. to the point that they lose the effect of what they "really" mean! 'Nazi' is in the top ten, (if not 5), in my opinion.
