Call them the not-so-friendly skies.

A flight attendant cursed out passengers, grabbed a beer then triggered an emergency chute Monday at a JFK Airport terminal, authorities say.

New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said it "appears" Steven Slater was quitting.

"It's a strange way to quit, let's put it that way," he said. "I don't think he'll be able to come back."

Having worked service jobs, I know that a person can only take so much abuse before they lose it. I've never gone out as grandly as this guy did, but there were times when I wished I could.

Thousands of stressed out flight attendants like myself are cheering Steven Slater. This has been an exceptionally challenging summer and I can see how he snapped. He'll be a hero to many!

I'm all for this guy. I too work everyday 40 hours a week not only with the public but also with a very difficult employer. There are times that I also need to relieve my stress, but I don't think that two beer will do it.
Maybe Vodka Tonic! Good Luck to the poor guy.

I probably would have grabbed the two beers too. I'm somewhat afraid of heights so I'm not too sure about the exit. Does sound pretty cool though. At least he has the rest of the summer to enjoy the nice weather at the Jersey shore.

All I can say is when your done your done. They may not like the way he did it but for them to try to but him in jail for it is sad. And the charges should be drop. With the act he pulled he must have been under a lot of stress.

This passenger should have been sent down the chute on his face.
I think the flight attendant went out in a blaze of glory and when he gets a new job he'll wish he had done it years earlier. I watch people boarding and deboarding planes and I want to strangle them myself. There should be a flying 101 class where courtesy and consderation of other passengers and safety are taught.
As for a SWAT team and a helicopter coming after a gay flight attendant sitting at home waiting to be arrested? Who are the bigger drama queens in this situation?

I agree with Vince, the person who got out of their seat should be charged in this instance as well.

My best I quit moment was working retail. The company I worked for had a history and had been fined for not allowing employees proper breaks during a scheduled "shift." Yet the behavior continued.

When I determined I had enough, and with a long line of people waiting to pay for their items I told the next few people waiting that someone would be there to assist them shortly. Logged out of the cash drawer, walked to the employee area of the store, clocked out, chatted with a few of my co-workers and then left the building. As I exited the same people were still waiting and upon my return to pick up my final pay check my immediate supervisor said, "I cannot believe you did that to us." My response was, I cannot believe that you continue to violate labor laws by not allowing employees their required break.

This retailer by the way no longer exist and that was back in the late 80's.

I think all airline should electronically lock the luggage bins while fasten seatbelt sign is on. That way no one can open the luggage bins when they are not supposed to. This will take the burden from the flight crews. In a way the airline are asking for this trouble, since they start charging for checked luggages, more and more passenger chose to bring more luggages on board, thus compound this problem.
