When you're on vacation or live in a coastal community, it's a symbol you simply don't want to see: a no-swimming sign, along with a beach health advisory.
More than two months after the Deepwater Horizon disaster, Pensacola awoke Wednesday to the largest onslaught of black crude on Florida's coast, as more than nine miles of white shoreline and beaches were soaked with syrupy oil.
A health advisory has been issued by Escambia County for parts of Pensacola Beach and Fort Pickens.
"It's pretty ugly. There's no question about it," Florida Gov. Charlie Crist said. "It does break your heart."

Well, with the millions of gallons of BP oil floating around Gulf, a disaster of the worst kind. Thanks to the mms waiving the blow out preventer backup system in 2001, wheres Cheney? Rubio is in big oils pocket, having received the most big oil money than any other Florida politician!”drill, baby, drill” for the bucks! Drillig offshore, most countries require the safety backup, the one Dick Cheneys boys waived!
At the county meeting with the Coast Guard today in Fort Walton Beach, FL, every county BEGGED for more skimmers to keep this off the beach. They were stonewalled, with 'we have requested more, more are on the way' but no details on WHEN.
I woke up this morning to this overnight sight on one of the prettiest beaches in North America. I worked to protect my neighborhood in the photo background on the Santa Rosa sound . This is the tip of the iceburg. Give control th our local governments, we care.
I live on the east coast of Canada, but have been watching the Gulf Oil spill since day one....just want that Billy Nungaser (bad spelling) to know I feel his pain & hopefully one of these days he will get some action....he makes a lot of sense to me & cant imagine why people aren"t listening to him....
They found a baby dolphin stranded on teh beach in that mess. They got her rescued but she died enroute to the facility for her. In Gulf Shores a boat captain shot and killed himself because of BP.
Its really bad here in Florida too.
I have been watching for days, people picking up oil globs with shovels. This will take years to clean up the shoreline. Why can’t dump trucks be lined with plastic and the oil being picked up by using front-end loaders? Then the oil could be trucked to some type of processing area. Wouldn’t that be quicker?
My heart is broken! BP can't buy us back what has been lost! I vacation in Panama City Beach every year! This is rediculous! It seems BP is trying to kill everything! Wow! Why can't they keep the oil from reaching our pristine beaches! Why are we not in control of our own coastline? God send us some angels! Please!

Where are the clean up crews?
BP doesn't seem to do anything in a timely manner – if Florida had the dollars it needs to get the oil out of the water before it reaches the beaches sights like this at Pensacola might not happen. We used to go to Pensacola for vacations several years ago – I hate seeing their beautiful beaches like this.
It has taken two months to begin seeing larger amounts of oil on FLorida shores. It is heartbreaking to watch the slow destruction of the gulf coast. However, I can't emphase enough that everyone living on the coast needs a evacuation plan before the first hurricane to enter the gulf.
