Yesterday, no one knew what was going to happen. Would six Haitian boys who had new families waiting for them in the United States be allowed to leave Haiti?
We learned late yesterday, the answer is yes.
This all started last Saturday when Sarah Thacker from Fergus Falls, Minn., was with two other women outside the Haiti International Airport with the six boys.
They say an angry mob started asking why the women were taking babies from the country. A clear sign that people here are very upset about the recent controversy surrounding missionaries attempting to transport children out of the country. The police were called and the women were held by the police for more than eight hours while they were questioned about documents signed by the Prime Minister of Haiti. Police told us they felt the signature was suspicious. They ordered the children to be kept in Haiti at an orphanage and told the women to get their paperwork in order.
The U.S. Embassy and senator from Amy Klobuchar from Minnesota got involved and backed the womens' claims that there was nothing wrong or suspicious about the documents.
They were right, after a meeting with the Prime Minister and United States Ambassador to Haiti, all was sorted and the children are on their way to their families in the U.S.
A huge ordeal with a happy ending.
