Hey everyone: David (Indiana), friends and bloggers!

Happy Thanksgiving

Isabel Siaba (Brazil)   November 25th, 2009 10:02 pm ET

And the White House security was doing what?

"starr, formerly known as vincent   November 25th, 2009 10:04 pm ET

Hi Tom Foreman, glad to see you leading the show too (! although i miss AC & Erica). Hi Team 360.

Hi fellow bloggers.

Absolutely shocking that the couple were allowed into the State dinner.

Cynthia, NC   November 25th, 2009 10:05 pm ET

Hello everyone. The Secret Service definitely has some explaining to do. How do two uninvited guests just walk into a state dinner at the White House?

David, Indiana   November 25th, 2009 10:06 pm ET

Good evening Isabel, good evening everyone.

Happy Thanksgiving

Isabel Siaba (Brazil)   November 25th, 2009 10:06 pm ET

If were they terrorists!? It's a completely absurd!!!!

Dulcie - Denver   November 25th, 2009 10:06 pm ET

Hey Tom! Good to see you heading up the show tonight. I love your letters to the President. Really cool.

Isabel Siaba (Brazil)   November 25th, 2009 10:08 pm ET

I thought to enter the White House there was recognition of digital ....anything super technology!

Nancy   November 25th, 2009 10:08 pm ET

Is t his couple going to be arrested?

Isabel Siaba (Brazil)   November 25th, 2009 10:09 pm ET

So the conclusion we can reach is that it is easy to get President Obama! This is too dangerous!

"starr, formerly known as vincent   November 25th, 2009 10:09 pm ET

@ Isabel -mexactly! Where were the secret service??

This incident could have been very bad, thank God nothing happened to the President, his wife, the children or anyother guest!

Isabel Siaba (Brazil)   November 25th, 2009 10:10 pm ET

In facebook Salahi says she was invited! Really????

David, Indiana   November 25th, 2009 10:11 pm ET

They seem so totally poised. I don't get how they got in in the first place. Amazing the White House has to deal with party crashers. I guess they slipped in by the social secretary who was checking the guest list.

Isabel Siaba (Brazil)   November 25th, 2009 10:11 pm ET

Salahi will have some punishment, if it was proven that she penetrated?

Kadi   November 25th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

OMG this is scary, better to know that it is a breach of security than the other way.
happy thanksgiving every body.
congratulations to the CNN heroes

Mike formerly from Syracuse   November 25th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

This incident says a lot about the US security posture.

Isabel Siaba (Brazil)   November 25th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

@starr, formerly known as vincent

The Secret Service wavered much this time!

Dennis   November 25th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

What about the Secret Service? Will they blame the Uniformed Division or the agents? What about the bosses who handled it? Also, if they were mentally unstable they still could have gotten through the magnetometers into the event...and who knows what they would have done. It sounds to me that management needs to be looked into.

Mike   November 25th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

wow....so can anyone just get into the white house now??

Mike formerly from Syracuse   November 25th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

Even though they went through metal detectors, they could have had pockets full of anthrax powder, which would not have shown up, and exposed everyone there.

Michelle   November 25th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

There should be more layers of security at the White House.
Listening to Dr Gupta seems like things were lax.

Chris   November 25th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

Secret Service has some explaining to do... This should not be taken lightly...

David, Indiana   November 25th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

@Isabel, what was security doing? How does a couple get away with something like this?

Paul, Austin   November 25th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

Oh, the horror! Some regular folks were allowed into the state dinner. How did the elitists allow that?? I think it is hilarious! Good for them.

Conlan   November 25th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

i think is a scary thing what if they were tea party terrorists who wanted Obama dead. then what?

karen   November 25th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

Good for them!
Bout time somebody crashed the white house party.

ellen Robinson   November 25th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

She is one of the new "Housewives of DC" a reality show from Bravo. I saw her being filmed last week at my Hair Salon and he confirmed she is
one of the housewives...I am sure this was connected somehow to the show.......

Kim   November 25th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Everyone who failed at their security job at the White House yesterday should be FIRED IMMEDIATELY!

And that couple who lied their way into the White House need to be arrested, and charge IMMEDIATELY!!!

pat, Georgia   November 25th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Did I hear their names were announced? If true, then I smell an inside job

Pamela   November 25th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

I wonder who Obama's going to fire over this security breech. Mmh...

Tenny   November 25th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Since they did not do anything bad, whatever the fine is should be low or none at all.
Yes the Secret service has some explaining to do

Paul C   November 25th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

I think it funny that a common couple made the state dinner. but its scary for some one to be that close to the Pres

Isaiah   November 25th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Those people need to be put in jail ! they could have did anything to the president

James   November 25th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

She is an attractive lady and I think this had something to do with it

Cameron   November 25th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

What if they had been spies of some sort or even assassins... Gosh this is not safe.

Eric   November 25th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

It is cool that those people got into that party at the white house. I think that if Obama is a US citizen and came from poor he would appreciate us poor fellow citizens to come in and mingle with him.

Lui Bordier   November 25th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

This seems pretty pathetic on securities part, if they let something this small slip who no knows what will happen.

Larry Webb   November 25th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

This is shocking! To think that the these people were allowed so close to the President, Vice President and other high officials. Not to be hysterical, but what if they were up to more than just 15 minutes of fame?

Denis - Canada   November 25th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

Ok, so as a Liberal Canadian I fully support a transparent Obama administration, but jumping the security queue to get cozy with the President and the like is taking it a bit too far.

samantha francis   November 25th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

i was just watching the news and it is so rong for people too sneek into the presedent's party.

linda marks   November 25th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

everyone at the east gate who checked them in needs to be fired, the one with the clipboard should be first to go

Ed   November 25th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

Let's jail that reality couple who broke the law. It is a felony. We jailed martha Stewart for lying.

Lets jail who ever leaked the number of troops to Afghanistan and CNN for reporting it.

Terri   November 25th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

Shocking! Frightening and shocking!
Heads should roll at White House security. This is just totally unacceptable. Can't imagine how it could have happened. Looks like Presidential security was in party mode. Really shocking.

Dave, Pennsylvania   November 25th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

While a breach in security the couple tested the secret services security measures. I believe that if charges are brought the President should pardon the couple. As, this was thankfully a safe way for the Secret Service and White House Staff to find out they need to strengthen their security.

John   November 25th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

can CNN role that footage of the couple crashing the state dinner just ONE more time please, I didn't quite get it! Jeez!

Karen   November 25th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

If I were President Obama, and Michelle Obama, I would trust NOONE ! - the secret service, has shown themselves to be incompetent.

Chuck in Thailand   November 25th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

Having attended several US State Department functions in the Middle East, I can only assume it was a White House staffer that messed up and let the gate crashers in. Perhaps there was another guest with a similar name and the staffer became confused, but it is the White House, after all. One would expect better security procedures at the seat of government.

Mike formerly from Syracuse   November 25th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

Many of those who voted for Obama did so because of his 'superior judgement.' So why aren't they backing that judgement now?

Jan   November 25th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

Well, the President said he wanted transparency, but this breach in security is a little too transparent!

Isabel Siaba (Brazil)   November 25th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

@ David, Indiana

I have no idea how a couple gets away with something like this .... Lol ...

Marie   November 25th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

If this couple lied their way into this State Dinner, or side stepped the check point, they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
This President has been threatened like no other and we are at war in two countries. What on earth were they thinking????

Cindy   November 25th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

Tom...Just wanted to drop in and say love seeing ya at the helm! But I won't lie I miss Cooper and haven't watched all week until I saw you on.

It's about time Obama did something about Afghanistan. He's waited too long!

Cindy..Ga.

Derek Wellwood   November 25th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

you would think that by 2009 the White house would be using chip cards with their invitation, which is checked with a secret service monitor device that would process the chip and show picture and information. I know the technology exists and is far more reliable than a clipboard.

It's a sad day when hollywood protects the President (in films) better than real life. safe holes found in the system are good, at least things should change in White House security now.

Dennis, Virginia   November 25th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

We didnt vote Obama in to expand our war fronts. He was voted in office for health care reform.

steve   November 25th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

Makes you wonder who is on 1st base as far as the US security level at the White House is concerned? My wife is also extremely good looking and I am sure they would let us right in too. I think I'll take my wife to DC for the weekend and ring the doorbell at the Front Gate of the White House for Thanksgiving tomorrow and say we are here for dinner after having been invited.............?

Roger Parikh   November 25th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

The couple was dresed just the right way. Tha lady in treditional beautiful Inian dress, man in a suite. Almost all the guest wearing the same outfits. No wonder secret service missed. Remember half of the invited guest may have left their invetations at their homes.

margerie brubaker   November 25th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

At a time when there is so much dis-content with haters and right wing nut jobs, violent groups, etc. How could this happen.
I am very disappointed in the Secret Service and alarmed. Please Please White House Secret Service, get yourselves together and do your job properly. A lot of people are counting on you.

Sincerely,
ole transsexual Margerie

And ohhh yes, I am still celebrating the signing of the Hate Crimes Law!!!!!!

Jacob NYC   November 25th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

Unbelievable and Embarrasing thing to happen at a top security event.

"starr, formerly known as vincent   November 25th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

Isn't there a saying that you must be doing the "right" thing when no one is happy?

I think that Pres. Obama will make an excellent presentation re: Afgan War. It is a global security issue. It seems as if he has gotten 'support" from a number of other countries. He will also have to state how it will be paid for and which civilian entities are important too.

Remember, this was the "justified" war (supported by all of our allies due to 9/11). Bush et al, started this war and then ignored it completely while the main focus was on Iraq.

sharon   November 25th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

how did they know where to go that security would not check them? when to leave before seatting arrangements?

Ora Reece   November 25th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

I think the couple that crashed the State dinner last nite should be charged with some kind of misdemeanor for invasion of privacy or something. This is a very serious matter and President Obama's life could have been at stake. It is not the time for Mr. Obama to be nice and brush the incident off. Furthermore, heads should roll wherever necessary.

Keep up the good work, CNN. I am an avid viewer.

thank you

joel   November 25th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

This security breach is outrageous. The intruders could have been assassins using knives, tableware, etc to complete their mission. Get it together White House security!

David, Indiana   November 25th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

@Isabel I think she will be punished after all they have pictures and video and she bragging about what they did on facebook and here we are seeing all of it, watching them penetrate security again and again.

samantha francis   November 25th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

the presedent should get better gards that know how to do the job

Dennis   November 25th, 2009 10:23 pm ET

@ James. Yes, probably since the SS has a lot of men. Most wouldn't second guess a woman like that. I don't think it should be up to Obama, but I definitely think that the management should be the ones to blame not some poor guy obeying orders from the SS.

Judith, New York   November 25th, 2009 10:23 pm ET

Mr. & Ms. Salahi need to have federal charges brought against them. The behavior of reality-tv "personalities" is really getting out of control.

Whoever was responsible for this security breach needs to be fired.

End of.

tom   November 25th, 2009 10:23 pm ET

James, i agreee with you beauty had a lot fo do with it.

Emely Cruz, Newark   November 25th, 2009 10:23 pm ET

Regardless of what kind if security there is out there, who would question that elegant blonde lady?????
They would stop anyone with any different look than her!

Cindy (Ontario)   November 25th, 2009 10:23 pm ET

Pretty incredible stunt/breach...after so much money and many measures put in place for security/vip protection. Nice dress though! No doubt, someone's head is going to roll! Probably no one person's fault – just a gap in procedures that they were able to manipulate.

samantha francis   November 25th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

i mean come on how would you sneek into the most high garded place in the country

Mike formerly from Syracuse   November 25th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

@Dennis, Obama was very clear during the campaign that Afghanistan was a necessary war. Perhaps liberals should have paid more attention.

Caroline, Los Angeles   November 25th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

Hi everyone. Knowing someone busted into a White House party sure is embarrassing for all involved. Usually these high profile events require a genuine invitation to be shown to a variety of gatekeepers. I wonder if one of the gatekeepers simply accepted an "Oh I left it at home" and didn't want to rock the boat around so many VIPs?

Don - Nashville   November 25th, 2009 10:25 pm ET

What?! Sarah P in Nashville? Oh, no... can we overthrow the tea party?

Mike formerly from Syracuse   November 25th, 2009 10:26 pm ET

Fiscal responsibility is an oxymoron with the current Congress.

Hiwot, Ethiopia   November 25th, 2009 10:27 pm ET

what do you expect him to do, this is a complicated war.

david kumar   November 25th, 2009 10:28 pm ET

Thank God nothing happened at the celebrations at the white house. It is a shame that this security has happened when our enemies are trying hurt us at any time.I think who ever is in charge should be held responsible for their ignorance.

Lynn   November 25th, 2009 10:29 pm ET

I guarantee you that if I waltzed up to the Big Party with my traditional and natural looking self with my husband in tow, also traditional and natural looking, we wouldn't have gotten past the first Social Secretary with the clip board. But as long as you show up looking "striking – with blonde" hair and a brightly colored outfit, the doors are open to you! What a breach of security and only God was protecting the President and other people in the tent. Imagine what today's news would have been like had these two had more nefarious intentions other than to get their fifteen minutes of fame. Heads need to roll, adding a few more names to the unemployment rolls.

Esther Silverbrand   November 25th, 2009 10:29 pm ET

What happened to what George W. and Dick Cheney said before the war started in Iraq - that the Iraqi oil wells would pay for the war and the rebuilding of their country. I reallize that Afghanistan is not Iraq, but if we would not have had to support the war in Iraq, we would have money to support the war in Afghanistan. I hope I'm not the only one who remembers that statement. Just like the one that the Iraqi's would welcome us with open arms. That was a joke.
(please do not use my last name on the air. Thank you)

Don - Nashville   November 25th, 2009 10:30 pm ET

Are we talking about a new "party" to the system?? Wouldn't this just split the "republicans"?

faye   November 25th, 2009 10:30 pm ET

I think that this couple should go to jail for what they have done.If it was me i would be put under the jail.let justice be done maybe that will take those big smiles off their faces.

Let justice be done maybe they won't

Ora Reece   November 25th, 2009 10:31 pm ET

I am sooooooo happy that so many others agree with me that this couple should be charged and some heads should roll.

Ora
Detroit

Robert   November 25th, 2009 10:31 pm ET

How did the couple that crashed the State Dinner get out?

Mike formerly from Syracuse   November 25th, 2009 10:31 pm ET

Oh no. If Roman Polanski gets out on bail he'll just run again. What was the judge thinking?

David, Indiana   November 25th, 2009 10:31 pm ET

@Paul, yes the horror! But they should be arrested, picked up. Violating White House security is a no no.

However polarized the country is, Republicans should support the president esp if he does what they're asking.

I hope the Tea party activists do not unduely influence the Republican party.

Caroline, Los Angeles   November 25th, 2009 10:32 pm ET

Tom Foreman does a great job. I'm not getting up at 4 a.m. to go shopping Friday! Thank goodness.

Rasheed O. Brooklyn Center, MN   November 25th, 2009 10:32 pm ET

I Thank God that President Obama, First Lady Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and the rest of the high profile Adminitratives did not get hurt behind someone's carelessness regardless how many people that were at the Obama's first Thanksgiving Party. Happy Holidays to the Entire CNN staff! And Thank You for showing the entire Nation this story about these two fake CELEBRITIES.

Sincerely,

Rasheed O.

Samantha Mosner   November 25th, 2009 10:32 pm ET

The couple that crashed the State Department dinner should be formally reprimanded. Their empty headed arrogance and insufferable childish need to force themselves into the limelight is infuriating and intolerable. Their attitude makes a mockery of a special Presidental event. This cannot be tolerated. They should be fined, spend time in jail and provide some community service.

Cindy (Ontario)   November 25th, 2009 10:32 pm ET

ps. As serious as this is, I too find it funny. Goes to show! No matter what efforts police/security/secret service etc make, the criminals / criminal minded are always one step ahead. You can't let your guard down...but I'd still like to think that people in general are good and kind hearted. Happy Thanksgiving!

Eric   November 25th, 2009 10:34 pm ET

What most people fail to realize is that the secret service is terribly overworked and underfunded! Ever since this agency was folded into the newly-formed department of homeland security, they have had to compete for funding with several other federal law enforcement agencies; something they didn't have to worry about when they were only a part of the Treasury Department. Meanwhile, the scope of their protection responsibilities has increased substantially – now, including protection of visiting foreign dignitaries and their families, occasional security for embassies in the DC area, as well as drawing up security plans for "major national events", (i.e the Olympics). They are responsible for all of these security measures, while continuing to be the only law enforcement entity that deals with investigating counterfeiting, credit card fraud, and internet crimes dealing with finance.
This latest breach in White House Security should cause this administration and the congress to reexamine the budgetary needs of the brave men and women charged with the protection of the first and second families.

"starr, formerly known as vincent   November 25th, 2009 10:34 pm ET

When the President clarifies the "mission" in Afganistan, and it is a worthy mission (with an end game strategy), i am willing to support a "war tax".

This way, the entire country will have a focus on the Afgan war and can react mightily if the stategy is No working within a reasonable amount of time.

Michelle   November 25th, 2009 10:34 pm ET

The Secret Service spokesman says proper procedure
was not followed. So I would say there will be a shake
up and the will be new agents at the White House.

Caroline, Los Angeles   November 25th, 2009 10:34 pm ET

Good for Toyota for doing the right thing with their cars.

Eileen   November 25th, 2009 10:35 pm ET

Roman Polanski is a convicted child rapist not a child molester.

Caroline, Los Angeles   November 25th, 2009 10:36 pm ET

That story about the guy getting a settlement for flipping off the cop is proof positive that there is no justice in this world whatsoever!

Joel - New York   November 25th, 2009 10:36 pm ET

This is just disturbing, we're so upset that there were definite failures on the part of the secret service and white house staff. You can bet that if they looked like some foreigner, they would have been stopped – but everyone's talking about how striking and calm they were. They just looked like they were part of the event.
And imagine, let's not forget the Prime Minister Singh of India and his wife were there – all sorts of things could have gone wrong. Pres. Obama is not being protected to the degree that he should be. Sheesh

Imam Nurudeen Sulayman   November 25th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

This is a bad attitude that can portray our national security as a weak one. Those White House security services need more explanation on what happened, why it happened and how it happened. Whoever is found wanting must face some sort of dicipline actions. I think that this issue shows that our security is not tight enough. If an uninvited guests could sneak into White House, what of if these people are terrorists or aimed at the president. I think it is better to be safe than be sorry.

@Don, Nasville – good point!

It figures that Paline would align herself with the Tea Party group.

Interesting article on the blog that says people should buy with the head and not with the heart. Times of crisis!

Michael Benedetto, CA   November 25th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

I think that the dinner party crashers actually performed a postive service to the Counrty. Good thing it was only them, now I'm sure security will be tightened up.

Cynthia, NC   November 25th, 2009 10:40 pm ET

I like a good deal when I'm shopping, but there's no deal that I would camp out 24+ hours for! I'm planning to hit the stores mid to late morning Friday.

Kay   November 25th, 2009 10:40 pm ET

Wow! This is not good.Inside workers need to be checked out to see if they had a hand in this.

Those little hamsters are so popular because they don't smell, they don't bite and they probably live longer than the real ones.

Stan Aronson   November 25th, 2009 10:40 pm ET

That the security breach at the White House state dinner occured is both outrageous and indefensable. Those persons could easily have been terrorists or Presidential assassins. The mind boggles considering the probable effects of such a scenario. Coming on the heels of the murder of 13 persons by a Major in the U.S.Army on a military post, we all should wonder at the state of our national defense safeguards. Heads should roll and quickly.

Milton Altschuler   November 25th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

If people think that war is something generals do then perhaps one should remember history. Eisenhower said beware the military-industrial complex. Generals get reputations with war.

If "winning in Afghanistan is that important, have a draft, no exemptions, a war tax, a war footing and then see how popular the war is with Americans.

Everything else is hypocritical and political. Kids die for the machinations of politicians and generals. We have fought wars in Korea and Vietnam without learning anything.

cops don't rule the world and if he was penalized for flipping off one, then justice was done if he got $50,000.

@Isabel, I guess they work together well.

Electric hamsters? I was following you Tom Foreman up to the electric hamsters. Real one must be too much trouble.

They moved the show to L.A. to get some more movie stars to participate. Good plan!

Mike formerly from Syracuse   November 25th, 2009 10:45 pm ET

Black Friday got that name because it's when many businesses finally get into the black (make a profit) for the year. I wonder if that's true this year with the recession.

"starr, formerly known as vincent   November 25th, 2009 10:45 pm ET

I agree with many other bloggers, that Someone (or more) needs to be held accountable for the breach in White House security by letting that couple in.

I also agree with some, that the "couple" involved should face some kind of penalty too.

Polanski is just vile. The liberal elite in Hollywood who support him are just as bad.

Truthfully, we are just wasting our time, money and innocent American soldiers in Afghanistan. How long are we going to finish this war? How many troops are we ready to sacrifice to get the needed result. We better quit Afghanistan now and leave them to solve their own problems. Enough is enough. The war that has brought unemployment, less security, loss of lives into our golden country needs to be stopped immediately. Sooner we get out of it better for our country. Let's focus on our nation security not security of Afghanistan.
