November 10th, 2009 10:07 pm ET It is sad that all these lives were lost, especially when they were surrounded by people they thought they could trust, people they would have gladly given their lives for, that they THOUGHT would do the same for them...instead, their lives were taken. Sad... |

November 10th, 2009 10:08 pm ET Anderson, I don't know why the fact that he acted alone makes him not a terrorist. Since when does someone need to be a member of a conspiracy to be a terrorist, or to be motivated by terrorist ideology? Official orders aren't necessary. |

November 10th, 2009 10:10 pm ET I really dont think that Hasan went off like that because he is a terrorist, I think he just cracked. Being in the position he is in and listeing to countless soldiers tell of their experiences and details about certain things that happen, I think he let them get to him and finding out that he is being sent to Afghanistan is what brought him to the end of his rope |
|
| Sharon |
November 10th, 2009 10:10 pm ET Why all these excuses, bottom line he killed soldiers, defenseless soldiers, he is a terrorist!! Crazy, yes....but nonetheless a terrorist! |
|

November 10th, 2009 10:11 pm ET Major Hasan is a terriorist and performed an act of terror at Ft Hood. Unless we are willing to believe that this slaughter is terror, we will never be able to guard against terriorist in America. |

November 10th, 2009 10:11 pm ET I noticed at the Memorial Service several of the dead were mental health workers. I know there was a psych nurse and a psychologist among the dead. Does anyone think he singled them out? I guess I can just as easily believe that this was an isolated incident probably triggered by his upcoming deployment rather than any kind of conspiracy. |

November 10th, 2009 10:11 pm ET Am I the only person who feels a little threatened by these radical Muslims that gather outside these prayer halls and spew anti-American word to passersby? Doesn't this seem quite alarming to anyone? I am nowhere near these people, but I feel threatened HERE! |

November 10th, 2009 10:11 pm ET The media is so focused on this man's religion that no one is asking the most important question –how was he able to purchase a weapon in the local community that could fire more than 100 rounds in a few minutes? It was not a military isssued weapon that was used. Like all other shootings done by mentally unbalanced "loners" the real concern is their easy access to such destructive weapons. Why aren't we asking the NRA why they continue to make such weapons purchases possible.? This is truly a crime. |

Did the FBI miss something? |

November 10th, 2009 10:13 pm ET I think the Fort Hood shooter was bullied. I do not agree with what he did at all but It is no different than kids in high schools or even elementary age children. It happens in office buildings; it just happened this week! We see it on the streets in every neighborhood. Why should we be surprised an adult would take action into his own hands to stop being bullied. |

November 10th, 2009 10:13 pm ET Congrats to the state of Virginia, to know that the 2 monsters known as the DC Snipers sat out in front of my son's middle school and had it on their "hit list" before being caught makes my stomach turn.Virginia is the #2 state in our country for executions and more states should follow. Many victims(families) can sleep well tonight knowing this execution has taken place.Lets make sure Lee Malvo never leaves prison unless he is in a box feet first. |

November 10th, 2009 10:13 pm ET If Nidal Hasan was deployed to Afghanistan , he would've been certainly targeted as an ethnic person helping the US army and it was very unlikely that he would 've come back alive. He was aware of this and may have viewed his deployment as a certain death sentence, and this may have set him off. He was an unstable individual no doubt, and given the stress of deployment and the horrors of wars that he experience thru from the soldiers he counseled, it is certainly not surprising what he did. |

November 10th, 2009 10:14 pm ET My son in law and brother are both in the military, i'm sick to think our military leaders allowed this man to not only continue his military career but get promoted to Major, all without checking into his back ground more, now we have our own brave soliders gone forever because of our lack of concern, now starts the finger pointing. I pray for all the familys its so upsetting |

November 10th, 2009 10:14 pm ET @Greg Sexton – Too many reporters have been sued for libel or slander for not including that "alleged" before a person has been convicted of something. So it's pretty standard practice in journalism to use the word "alleged" until there's a conviction, no matter what the circumstances. |
|
| James Patterson |
November 10th, 2009 10:14 pm ET This officer was a coward. He was scared to death after hearing what we "Soldiers" have had to deal with over there. He was trying everything in the book to take the easy way out of the deployment. He probably cracked and decided that the only way out of the deployment was to do the unthinkable. Now this Mental Health Officer is going to use the system to get out of the death penalty. May he die a painful death. |

November 10th, 2009 10:15 pm ET I'd really like to see CNN do in-depth interviews with some of these "radical" Muslims. I'd like to know what event in their lives led them to be so hateful. I'm guessing exterior forces (people) in their lives started brainwashing them as a very young age. There is something terribly wrong when someone makes a comment that they love someone they've never met more than they love themselves. |
|
| Marlene, Middleburg Florida |
November 10th, 2009 10:15 pm ET I don't get how the muslims are allowed to Terrorize people for not believing how they do. If they don't like America and the freedoms that we have here then they need to get out of this great country! America needs to get people out of America like these muslims out of this country. You can't yell FIRE in a crowded movie theater and you sure as heck shouldn't be allowed to spew such hatred for this country that actually gives these people (for lack of a better word) a forum to breed hatred in this country. |

November 10th, 2009 10:17 pm ET Investigators have not found any evidence for a co-conspirator or the shooting as an act of terrorism. It seems like he kept his secrets pretty well. Nothing is known about Major Hasan. The criminal specialist stated that most terrorists keep their religious views to themselves but this is America, freedom of religion; a terrorist's cover would not be blown if he practiced the Islamic faith, even to an extreme. |
|

November 10th, 2009 10:17 pm ET Haven't this government learned from 9/11 not to ignore the signs, the FBI and his work and class associates knew what he was saying. He should have been watched closer or pulled him in. He should "NOT" have been in our military because of his views. |

November 10th, 2009 10:17 pm ET Hello Anderson, glad to see you on the blog, we notice you even without your picture. Does the guy who wants to see a "mushroom" cloud over Israel realize that the Palestians and Jordanians and on and on would also die? These guys are "fundamentalists" and are just as irrational as other fundamentalists who feel that only they know what is "right"! |

November 10th, 2009 10:17 pm ET What about the monitoring that they did on Hasan? |
|
| AJ |
November 10th, 2009 10:17 pm ET How naive the American public can be. Hasan was not part of a group so he is not a terrorist? Islamic Jihadist? Carol, Greg Sexton and Carol are right. He went on a rampage because he he was a radical muslim and therefore a jihadist. |

November 10th, 2009 10:17 pm ET Anderson, My husband just deployed Oct. 12th and we were stationed at Fort Hood. Sadly we did know some of the victims and wounded soldiers. as a spouse of a soldier that just left Fort Hood...I have to say several of us spouses had to come together just to try and figure out just how to handle this news with our spouses given they just left Fort Hood and they get woke up to be briefed that their home base had a massacre and their friends and fellow soldiers were dead or wounded. It's beyond upsetting as all of our military bases should be a safe haven for us military families. None of us believe this is a lone gunman nor do we believe he's not connected to JIHAD...Sadly, it's known that there are infiltrators of various kinds that are in our military. Second, if a soldier passes their ASVAB test with high scores and has credentialed college education they can come in at a higher rank (possibly an NCO level) this means they don't fratinis with lower rank soldiers; if they were made to then more than likely our soldiers would figure them out quickly. something to look into and think of..! |

November 10th, 2009 10:18 pm ET I deployed to Iraq in February 2003. We worked with very honorable Muslim translators. Our lives were in their hands everytime we went on patrol in Sinjar and the surrounding communities. I am honored to see that the Muslim Community has taken a public stance on denouncing what happened. This needs to be stepped up by the entire Muslim Community across the Nation. Their support and involvement within the rest of American Culture would demistify their religion. |

November 10th, 2009 10:18 pm ET Anderson, While I am saddened and shocked by the Ft. Hood Massacre, I feel that the Major joined the service because he loved America. It was after he joined we went to war with Muslims in their land. He is a devout Muslim. It cause conflict within him. He tried to quit the service, honorably, offering to pay back for the training he had had in his field. He did not want to fight those who were in his roots. Instead the armed services made him stay, to listen day after day to hear the the horrible stories of war, against "his people". It eventually drove him to the point of what happened, as he was going to be sent over to kill those who believed as he in his faith. it was too much. He should have been listened too on a more intense level of understanding, and more questions asked when he wanted out. Perhaps empathy was not a part of the equation, but should have been. |

November 10th, 2009 10:18 pm ET This was horrible, my heart goes out to all the families who lost loved ones or had loved one injured. |

November 10th, 2009 10:18 pm ET There were so many more options other than killing soldiers to get out of going to Iraq, the most obvious one being AWOL (absence without leave) . I heard one of his patient's committed suicide, anyone looking into what he might have said or done to our Soldiers who sought him for treatment. I don't know just makes me wonder. |

November 10th, 2009 10:19 pm ET This is not merely inciting violence. This is treason! When I cannot walk down the street without fearing a radical Muslim might kill me, their freedom on American soil, citizen or not, should be restricted. The friend of my enemy is my enemy. This is treason! |

November 10th, 2009 10:19 pm ET I can't believe these people preaching death to our president and others are allowed to remain here by the 1st ammendment? They ARE the very terrorists we should bring the marines in to eliminate. This is unbelievable to hear! It is time we decide to remove these haters no matter what our constitution says. |

November 10th, 2009 10:20 pm ET Clearly Hasan was a terrorist. he didn't just snap but planned his attack and said his goodbyes. pc correctness is preventing people from stating the obvious |

November 10th, 2009 10:20 pm ET Ironically, the Muslim street preachers shouting death to democracy are doing it in a country that allows them to do it BECAUSE it is a democracy. |

November 10th, 2009 10:21 pm ET @ Maureen T, Canada, I don't think that people are "painting all Muslim Americans like this".... these people in this story are Muslim Americans! They are not everyone, however, they need to be watched! |

| Phil New York |
November 10th, 2009 10:21 pm ET We create these radical groups by our backward Middle East Foreign Policy. The influence of the Israel lobby drives foreign policy. Unfortunately, the policy that they advocate is foolish and does not benefit Israel or the United States. God forbid one criticizes an Israeli policy, if they do... they are anti-semetic |
|
| ingrid |
November 10th, 2009 10:21 pm ET Major Hasan I presume enlisted before 9-11, and the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. I think possibly these subsequent events put him in a mental/ideological conflict that he just couldn't cope with and unfortunately this conflict exploded into violence. I understand he tried to get out of the forces but was unable to do so because he "owed" time due to the funding of his education by the U.S. Military. Sympathy to all you suffered losses as a result, but perhaps when enlisted personnel are recruited and then the nation subsequently "goes to war" with certain members of their homeland/regligious group perhaps they should be more closely monitored by U.S. forcees for any conflict issues they may be dealing with. |
|
| Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio |
November 10th, 2009 10:21 pm ET Everyone is complicating this by searching for some magical reason why these terrorists do these things, but sometimes it is just a matter of choice. It is as simple as that. |
|
| Jean |
November 10th, 2009 10:22 pm ET These radical Muslims are extremely bold. They are in America and are inciting hatred and encouraging murder at that. They do not fear speaking out against America. – in America. What are they doing in America if they have no love for America and its policies? They do not care two hoots about America. They should be deported back to their country. The American government is too lenient and passive with such people. Some of them may very well be receiving government assistance at US taxpayers expense. Get them out of the US! |
|
| stella, NY |
November 10th, 2009 10:22 pm ET These Revolutionary Muslims who want death to AMERICANS should get out of this WONDERFUL COUNTRY!!!!! The law should state: Anyone or Group who preaches HATE of any KInd – PROMOTES DEATH should be Arrested....and Deported.... THAT'S WHAT I THINK..... |

| Heather - Spokane, WA |
November 10th, 2009 10:25 pm ET I do have to say that it is not fair to automatically say that the reason why someone did something is because of their nationality or religion. If it were someone else, say someone of Vietnamese descent, his descent would not come up. We all have to remember that we have the freedom of religion in our constitution and there are many religions here and not everyone is against us. |
|
| gretchen |
November 10th, 2009 10:26 pm ET Anderson, all terrorist are wrong.but let's not kid ourselves, terrorism did not start with islam,do we not remember the ku,klux, klan,or the skin heads or even street gangs in this country it's all wrong some americans are being terrorised in their community's every day. What about the terrorist Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols. We are painting a picture that islamic muslims are terrorist.I'm not islam or muslim but I see some hypocrisy.I suggest to watch all terrorist groups or people no matter what religion. Remember African Americans were being terrorised on a regular bases in this country, the lynchings, church bombings etc.., and still no one has been brought to justice. |
|
| Eairon Medd |
November 10th, 2009 10:26 pm ET I thought after 911 our government promised they would have better communication with each other. Here we have the Army, the FBI and "terrorist watchdogs" all in place to watch for our safety and yet again "nobody thought it was a genuine threat". If someone is doing "research" for months or years on suicide and murder and we see a power point presentation about it, I would say the red flags should be flying up all over the place. |
|
| Marlene, Middleburg Florida |
November 10th, 2009 10:26 pm ET Hasan not a terrorist? I question that entirely..I personally think he is a domestic bred terrorist. Perhaps not part of a group but still a person causing terrorism. The Fact that we "Tolerate" terrorism in this country by allowing others to gather in public to insight hatred against the country in which they live should be a Federal Crime. The first ammendment for freedom of speech I'm sure was not put forth for such intended purposes! |

November 10th, 2009 10:26 pm ET I was so angered by these muslim radicals that I could'nt see straight. Im thinking that the Supreme Court should pass a "new" law that will send these war mongers right back to their beloved third world nation. It was appaling to see them (radicals) shouting at innocent bystanders. America is a great country, how dare we allow this?.....Mr. President make them all get out, and never let them come back!! |

November 10th, 2009 10:26 pm ET Anderson! I am a Muslim vetrain who served honorably in the US military. As a Muslim, American and Vetrain I want to condemn Major Hassan's alleged actions against his oath and uniform code. Our islamic faith is free and clear from preaching such acts. My heart goes to all victims who are fallen and I urge everyone not to link this terror acts to Islam as this might create substantial unrest for those Muslims in Uniform serving our Nation Honorably. |

November 10th, 2009 10:27 pm ET As heart broken as I was today listening to the memorial for those innocents killed at Ft. Hood, I am equally disturbed to hear the conversation on air tonight about the terrorists in the US that are Muslim. Why are we not as focused on and as afraid of the right wing terrorists (ie the abortion doctor murderers) or the Oklahoma Bomber- McVey terrorists that were also members of specific political groups. It seems that if we are going to call out terrorists, we must be all inclusive. It is specifically this myopic vie that has caused so much hatred in the world for the hypocrisy of Americans. |

November 10th, 2009 10:28 pm ET Oh my god, I just the worst case of the shivers when Anderson said 9:11 was the time the D.C. Sniper died. oh, that just freaks me out. |

November 10th, 2009 10:28 pm ET My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those killed by Mohammad, who was executed tonight. I can see no reason, other than complete disregard of human life in the crime he committed! To me he was a true "terrorist". |

November 10th, 2009 10:28 pm ET Hello Everyone, Anderson – I’m not sure if you have seen the movie by Michael Moore “Sicko”, but I would love to see one of you all do something similar to that on Health Care in America and aboard. I see that Congress is in the works with something for the country, however you all should really think about displaying the health care system of the other countries and compare it to America. Doing that piece would really open the eyes of a lot of people that really don’t understand what it is that the health care reform advocates are fighting for… Thoughts everyone? |

November 10th, 2009 10:28 pm ET Does anyone else think it is ridiculous to keep these murderers alive years after the crime? I mean, there was no question that this guy from DC was guilty, why waste MY tax dollars for his three meals a day, free housing, and health care while in jail? Waste of time... |

November 10th, 2009 10:29 pm ET @Evening Erica! Hopefully the FBI was able to ask Muhammad more questions about the shootings back in 2002..! Also are there any details relating to Muhammad's son? |

November 10th, 2009 10:29 pm ET Hasan's Muslim associates claim that all unblievers are apostates; apostates must be killed, therefore Christian "American's" are unbelievers and must be killed. Funny how fundamentalism (with stress on *mental*) of any flavor tends to cause such religious phobia - and I refer to ALL 3 monotheisms. |
|
| Tristan |
November 10th, 2009 10:30 pm ET I do not believe that Maj. Hasan was a terrorist, do you believe that the gun man at Virginia Tech was a terrorist? No somethings just happen but that's my opinion I won't try to force it on people. I do belive that the police step in on the men trying to recruit terrorists before some radical AMERICAN decides hes had enough and either kills or severly harms them because someone else must know it's going to happen. |

November 10th, 2009 10:30 pm ET I can’t believe these extreme Islamic radicals are praising terrorist acts in broad daylight! Talk about red Flags. It is mind boggling how this could be legal and permitted. However, Rush Limbough spews similar hatred towards our President as well. This type of hatred towards our country or our president should be illegal. |

November 10th, 2009 10:30 pm ET What is wrong with most of you? What is it about extremist Muslims that you do not understand? They want you dead. Period!!! Stop making excuses for them. President Obama is gravely mistaken to think that he can negotiate with them. Wake up!!!! |

November 10th, 2009 10:31 pm ET Re: Revolution Muslim. Yousef El Khatab and his cohorts all support, even love, Osama Bin Laden. They are vocal in their hatred of the US and what we stand for. Why are they allowed to stay here in the US? They did not hesitate to openly support Hasan's shooting of our troops and innocent people in Texas. Let's ship them all off to Afghanistan so they can be with their beloved Obama. |

November 10th, 2009 10:31 pm ET Didn't the sniper tell his ex-wife in a letter that he was innocent? |

November 10th, 2009 10:32 pm ET That shooting at the Home Depot was one of the ones that freaked me out the most (I was a sophomore in high school at the time). I'd been to that exact store dozens of times. That was also the one where that fake witness dude came forward. |

November 10th, 2009 10:33 pm ET Judging from what Ive heard and read, find it hard to believe that he Hassan just snapped as 1 criminologist said.He did too much planning and seemed too methodical. I see this as domestic terrorism. |

November 10th, 2009 10:34 pm ET Wasn't Major Hasan looking at mental health hazards for troops who are muslims? I felt the President's comments and the service at Fort Hood for the men and women who lost their lives in the attack was heartfelt, comforting and uplifting. But I feel broader American society also has an important role in healing this country. |

November 10th, 2009 10:35 pm ET Major Hasan is not solely responsible for this tragedy. The chain of command is responsible for the health and well-being of the soldiers under their command. This man was not well and the "signs" were loud and clear. |
|
| Vasee Swaray |
November 10th, 2009 10:36 pm ET What Major Hassan did should not be considered as an islamic act. It was just a Psychopathic and psychotic act as a lonely man who has nothing to lose and a cowardly soldier who was just afraid to face the dilemma of going to the war front. Islam is a religion of peace, it does not condone not only what was done by Nidal also by John Muhammad and on the streets of New York. |
|

November 10th, 2009 10:36 pm ET Xavier... I hear what your saying...however, having spent many years overseas in the Army, those countries such as Canada, Germany, England that have a national or social medicine system have a very heavy income tax. They do pay for what they have in taxes, in some countries they pay as much 35 to 45% income tax.. that is real heavy. |
|
| james kearney |
November 10th, 2009 10:37 pm ET I believe this was not a lone act. all, all in Islam are taught that they will rule the world when the prophet comes, but there end is about to come ,but not yet. America is acting dumb. Islam istrying to take over the U.S. from the inside out. Don't you know what a sleeper is? Stupid is if stupid does. America better wake up. They have been moving in for years. |

November 10th, 2009 10:37 pm ET I believe the DC Sniper case should not have been executed at this time. We have many unsolved cases throughout the US that could have possibly been committed by Muhammad and now there are families out there that might never has the answer to their question, who did it? I believe in this execution, but at this time the execution could have waited to see if he could be held accountable for these other unsolved deaths. |

Not sure if this series was posted on the website or not. |

November 10th, 2009 10:41 pm ET I sure hope the first question they ask MAJ Hasan is why did he have contacts with known islamic radicals. I hope from 9/11 and the Fort Hood shootings people realize we are not safe from domestic terrorism. Become more vigilant and report suspicious activities to your local law enforcement. We are no where near safe, these harmful people are still roaming the states in what are known to be Sleeper Cells, and everyone from intelligence to local law enforcement needs the civilians help as much as the Armed Forces! |

November 10th, 2009 10:44 pm ET Im a marine veteran of 3 tours to iraq. i think these people talking about loving osama bin ladin and gihad and terrorizm should be delt with just as if they were to say they were going to kill the president. they are supporting and praising someone who was responsible for one of the biggest terrorist attacks, and like osama they may not pull the trigger or detinate the bomb but they are responsible. The training of future terrorists in parts of this country is another thing that should be delt with just the same. People say there is a fine line between peoples right to freedom of speech but that is not freedom of speech that is treason punishable by death. these people need to be stopped so that the war myself and my fellow marines and soldiers fought and are still fighting is not a loosing battle. Those people saying theey want marines and soldiers to die make me sick. how can you be a US citizen and say you want fellow americans that make it possible for you to speak that sort of garbage to die and have it be ok. I definately agree with MR. Ramsey. |

November 10th, 2009 10:45 pm ET The Muslim Revolution brothers are provocative and inflammatory but scratch the surface as Drew Griffin does in his report and they are radical but not advocating violence. November 10th, 2009 10:46 pm ET It sickens me to see what is going on in the streets, these two self proclaimed muslims. Yes, I believe in free speech, but when you use this right to attack the very country you live in , you should not be living in this country. Why they havn't been yanked off the street and sent to no man's land, is beyond me. Oh, I must have forgotten, we have the courts to defend their rights. The only word that comes to my mind is disgrace.... |

November 10th, 2009 10:47 pm ET The story of the priest's son is terribly sad. I am not a religious person, but I cannot imagine is not disheartening for those who are to keep seeing that even the church does not do the right thing. All make mistakes; you suck it up, fess up, and do what's right. |

November 10th, 2009 10:48 pm ET okay it is time to stop with these ancient laws that were passed when men and women lived in caves. Radical Muslims can preach hatred in the streets in America but we cant even pray in schools and now the sign of the cross is banned on a license plate. I love President Obama but he definitely has his hands full. We are all looking at him but like Michael Jackson put it "start with the man in the mirror" that muslim that was spewing hatred out of his mouth had eyes with no soul. Also tell me why again are we still in Irag and Afghanistan aside from loosing our husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers |

November 10th, 2009 10:49 pm ET @ Rick Rose As a retired US Army man, I can say with a 90% probability that there will be some changes to how things are done in the military as well as how civilian and federal agencies work with them. The military bases will tighten up some more which is a real pain for those that are honest and good, I being retired go through a nut roll everytime I visit Fort Lewis just getting on post.. for me its a 5 hour drive to get there but it is something that must happen. |

November 10th, 2009 10:53 pm ET This is amazing to me,the Muslins preaching hate and terrorism. People loved Jim Jones, and we all know what happened with that type of religion. Muslins in the Middle East and here need to denounce these extremities, which are giving the Muslin (Islamic) faith a Cult like appearance. November 10th, 2009 10:55 pm ET Hey Anderson and Erica, I was just watching CNN with my aunt in Texas and we watched the report about a lady who staggered into a railway and the train driver stopped in time for the lady to be saved. My question is, what happened to the man in glasses who alerted the driver to stop? Doesn't he deserve to be recognised also, because from our point of view, the man rushed to stop her and alerted the train driver by pressing the button on the wall to stop the train. The driver's name is Cherise Lewis. |

November 10th, 2009 10:58 pm ET I think Carrie is a hypocrite. She says that women should treat their bodies like a temple; but she was Miss. Why can't she just apologize about what she did, and move on with her life. |
