Good evening Anderson, ...Glad to see you back! :P ...Good evening Erica, Megan, Martina & Bloggers!

Tomorrow is going to be an interesting day!

Emily   November 2nd, 2009 10:06 pm ET

I wonder if there will be a 3rd Party at sometime later down the future?

Jane - Vt   November 2nd, 2009 10:06 pm ET

Hi everyone. Welcome back Anderson Cooper. Your peeps missed you.

Daisy21   November 2nd, 2009 10:06 pm ET

The Republican candidate in the 23rd district, was not a "moderate". She might be a Republican, but a far left one. She even got the endorsement of Daily Kos over the Democratic candidate. She was endorsed by the Family Workers Party, hardly a conservative group. Would Democrats vote for a Democratic candidate who was endorsed by a far right organization? I don't think so....

Megan Dresslar - Shoreline, WA   November 2nd, 2009 10:06 pm ET

Yeah Emily,
I agree with you...... I am forwarding see tomorrow night too.

Gregg - - Fla.   November 2nd, 2009 10:06 pm ET

I like Rloand Martin, always has great points, ( fact )...

Jennifer - AZ   November 2nd, 2009 10:07 pm ET

Evening Anderson,
Glad to see you back. Hope you had a good, much deserved break.

Conservatives, tea parties – all I can say is (sigh). So very tired.

Megan Dresslar - Shoreline, WA   November 2nd, 2009 10:08 pm ET

@Jane
You're right!! LOL!!!! I love peeps!!

Rou-Jhen Su, Taiwan   November 2nd, 2009 10:08 pm ET

Hello !!!!! Anderson and all !!!!!!!

Jane - Vt   November 2nd, 2009 10:09 pm ET

What I don't understand about the NY election is how someone can run in a district they do not reside in. Doesn't make sense to me.

Cindy Dyer, In   November 2nd, 2009 10:09 pm ET

@Gregg me too.

Gregg - - Fla.   November 2nd, 2009 10:09 pm ET

Keep in mind Daisy, Gingrich endorsed her so, go figure..

john   November 2nd, 2009 10:09 pm ET

I believe the guy on the republican side should be ashamed to send lies on his blog. Remember him calling Obama racist thug and laughing about it??? It was a few weeks ago when he was called out for it on a panel. Roland is making a valid point as usual.

Kendall   November 2nd, 2009 10:09 pm ET

I never knew there was a difference between Conservative an Republican until NY23 district. I now now I am a democrate with conservative priciples. No need for repubs to isolate moderates

Jeff   November 2nd, 2009 10:09 pm ET

It could turn out to be the best for the country if the Republicans cause the creation of a true third party.

Megan Dresslar - Shoreline, WA   November 2nd, 2009 10:10 pm ET

Anderson,
I miss you so much last week..... I hope you enjoy off last week.... :)

Daisy21   November 2nd, 2009 10:10 pm ET

We all saw how "tolerant" the Democratic Party was when it came to those not toeing the Democratic Party line in the Connecticut Senatorial race. Was it not the far left who put up Ned Lamont to run against the sitting Democratic Senator, Joe Liebermann? The Democratic Party threw Mr. Liebermann under the bus for daring to not vote the way the party masters wanted him to and the way a good little Democrat was supposed to.

starr, formerly known as vincent   November 2nd, 2009 10:10 pm ET

Welcome Back Anderson!! (hope you had a well deserved vacation). Good evening Erica & Entire Team 360.

Good evening fellow chatters. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

This "conservative" movement is unsettling. Roland is right, you cannot build a National Party when you want to close our moderte Republicans.

The entire issues is scary.

Emily   November 2nd, 2009 10:10 pm ET

@Megan,
It's going to be an "interesting" Tuesday!
...it's going to be a quite an evening tomorrow. (I think too!)

Looking forward to hearing what these women have to say about women in the workforce, etc.

David, Indiana   November 2nd, 2009 10:10 pm ET

Good evening Anderson, great to see you again. Good eveing Erica, Isabel, everyone.

Primary voters should say if Ms Scozzafava runs or is elected into office not notable republicans. Having said that I don't like to see Republicans bickering like this and of course there are moderate Republicans I'm with Roland on that.

Casey Jones - Palm Springs, CA   November 2nd, 2009 10:10 pm ET

The "Tea Party" guy has blinders on. We are gradually moving to a (viable) three-party system. This idea of a completely conservative Republican party and a completely liberal Democratic party doesn't fit because it's simply too black & white. Now, if the Democrats and the Republicans would stop freezing-out people like Ross Perot or Ron Paul from the discussion, we could make some serious forward momentum. I believe Libertarians are really making some headway now, for example.

Jon   November 2nd, 2009 10:10 pm ET

What's happening in the republican party is a disintegration of what Reagan built. I predict the Conservative wing will eventually break off and create a real third party. They have a strong media influence.

Alex   November 2nd, 2009 10:10 pm ET

Perhaps the GOP should look how long the UK Conservative party was out of power when it swung to the right after loosing.

Donna   November 2nd, 2009 10:10 pm ET

Whether Owens wins or loses, the Democrats win. Even a loss highlights cracks in the Republican party.

Derek   November 2nd, 2009 10:10 pm ET

The Republican and Democratic parties are already so divided in this country, why not divide them from the inside? What happened to cooperation and compromise? Let all of the ideologies be represented in the parties to dull the hard opinions.

Paula, Colorado   November 2nd, 2009 10:10 pm ET

Anderson,
Hi. Welcome back! I hope you had a great break. I was gone awhile myself, but the program isn't the same without you.
I'm looking forward to the upcoming election–though I think it may bring about more rhetoric than change.

Anthonia-(Bay Area)California   November 2nd, 2009 10:11 pm ET

Good Evening Everyone! Hope Everyone Had A Great Weekend!

Amanda   November 2nd, 2009 10:11 pm ET

Who says that these fringe wingnuts are the Republican Party's base?

They are base for sure in their zealotry and bigotry, but I am not convinced that they are the Republicans' true base. This is the party of Lincoln for goodness sake – it is conservative yes, but for most of its history, there was room for moderates and moderation.

I'm just dismayed at this.

Mary   November 2nd, 2009 10:11 pm ET

The republicans are fighting to find themselves. They need a broader tent. Think like the "tea party" or your out!!! They are the dictators, not President Obama.

Emily   November 2nd, 2009 10:11 pm ET

@Rou-Jhen Su, Taiwan,
Welcome to the Blog this evening!
Nice to see you here! :D

Monica M. Williams   November 2nd, 2009 10:11 pm ET

Can I get a whoa! whoa! AC in the house.

The conservative, liberal, Republican, Democrat discussion is mute. How a supporting a leader who works for the people not against the base.

Iman   November 2nd, 2009 10:11 pm ET

Anderson–

I am just scared for our country. How can we tackle our big issues... jobs healthcare... etc. and we are detracted by these check-box categorizations and marching around against people who are brave enough to rise to the task of helping us fix this country...republican...liberal... moderate.... democrat...we are American and we all have problems... the same problems. Let's just get together and talk.

Gloria, Brooklyn, NY   November 2nd, 2009 10:11 pm ET

I knew N. Cage was spending a little bit to much according to the tabloids.

Jenn   November 2nd, 2009 10:11 pm ET

There is nothing conservative about Republicans today. The neo-conservative movement as actually been baraged by Jacobin principles that seek an imperialism in foreign policy and centralized power at home.

Sabine   November 2nd, 2009 10:12 pm ET

Hello Anderson,

Fine that you are back, have a good week.

Dan Moreno   November 2nd, 2009 10:12 pm ET

I prefer the Republican party without the middle of the road "no backbone" moderates.

Geovanni Rahming   November 2nd, 2009 10:12 pm ET

Anderson, Mark

Evening.

im just wondering just how important this particular election is and why it is being discussed at length on CNN.

Will this election represent the current administration's decline in popularity...does it actually carry much weight in reality?

Hello Bloggers: Looking forward to the panel discussion on women and their pay in the workplace.

Not sure if I would agree with Suze Orman that women generally don't "ask" for more pay. With today's economic environment, I'm not sure I want to get that bold. As it is, employees already have given up merit increases this year so I highly doubt women asking for a pay raise will be very successful.

Dorothy   November 2nd, 2009 10:13 pm ET

Anderson,

Your show is awesome! Thanks for having Roland Martin on. He is a dynamic debater!

Jonathan Musa   November 2nd, 2009 10:13 pm ET

The Republican Party have become big problem in America. They have drive this country and the whole world into a mess from wars to borrowing and now they talk about fiscal policies and debt been shove into the throats of their children...that's really hypocritical and very deceiving. How sad and dishonest?

Sharon Hastings   November 2nd, 2009 10:13 pm ET

Good evening and happy Monday Anderson and all bloggers. I don't see how the Republicans can build their party up if they maintain such a narrow perspective of what a Republican should be. Let's remember though that these folks are in the minority. Yes they are loud and outspoken and get alot of attention but they are in the minority. The majority of voting America are not narrowly conservative Republicans, nor will they be in the future.

Cessy, Chicago IL   November 2nd, 2009 10:13 pm ET

three way split screen is funny...Anderson you are one patient host.

Russ   November 2nd, 2009 10:13 pm ET

They don't get it, it is not about the party it is about the person running period, Democrat, Republican or Independent. When are you guys going to wake up and not make this about parties.

Russ

Wynter   November 2nd, 2009 10:13 pm ET

The Conservatives are suffering the fallout from embracing the Religious Right over the past decade. Now they find themselves being surrounded by the fanatical right and the Glenn Beck maniacs.

Emily   November 2nd, 2009 10:14 pm ET

Good for Anderson to call Mark out on this point here....re. being a "Marxist" ....one extreme or the other...

Rebekah   November 2nd, 2009 10:14 pm ET

Anderson! so nice to see you back at the anchor desk!
also, good evening to Erica (of course) and the rest of the AC360 team

i can definitely say i'm eager to see how the elections turn out. thank goodness we here in Michigan arent dealing with a gubernatorial election just now – Granholm's term limit will be at its end in 2010 – but congressional elections are always interesting.
crossing my fingers for more liberal wins tomorrow! i'm also biting my fingernails down to the quick thinking about staunch conservatives gaining much ground this election cycle...

Iggy Gomes   November 2nd, 2009 10:14 pm ET

Senseless, Mark. It's llike you want a bigger tent only to hang a bigger EXIT sign!

Tony   November 2nd, 2009 10:14 pm ET

Is Senator Leiberman a traitor according to Dems?
Maybe the Dems should purge thier party!

Lance Kolbet   November 2nd, 2009 10:14 pm ET

I was laying in bed with my wife watching the dialogue unfolding and was compelled to share the view of an Idaho Republican. One of the most conservative republican states in the country. I have been involved in politics here in Idaho for sometime. I have to classify myself as a moderate republican. I truthfully have to say that I feel like my party has been hijacked. I feel that the party has more changed than myself. I am almost spent watching the talking heads each night. I have (3) children to think about now and would not put it past myself to no question vote for a moderate, even democrat. I am so disappointed with the fact that we cannot come to the table and work together. Were are the true Statesmen of the day? Not politicians. Too much is at stake. Additionally, I would like to add that Rush Limbaugh embarrases me as a republican. I hope that many understand that Rush does not represent all the views of Republicans.

Logan   November 2nd, 2009 10:14 pm ET

Hi Anderson me and my g/f missed you. Hello Everybody. So where were you at?

Chuck in Thailand   November 2nd, 2009 10:14 pm ET

Mr. Martin named two conservative Democrats from below the Mason Dixon line.

How many can he name from New York State? That is the state under discussion

David Cross   November 2nd, 2009 10:14 pm ET

We Republicans are tired of politicians throwing away our values for votes.

Gayle McCauley Malden,Mass.   November 2nd, 2009 10:14 pm ET

Every time Mark Williams is on I just shake my head and chuckle....

Casey Jones - Palm Springs, CA   November 2nd, 2009 10:14 pm ET

I think Mark needs to take a time-out and re-review his principles, because he is looking a little bit wacko with his inability to make clear distinctions. It's unfortunate because he has some valid points.

Cessy, Chicago IL   November 2nd, 2009 10:15 pm ET

Big day tomorrow..will not miss it.

Mike, formerly from Syracuse   November 2nd, 2009 10:15 pm ET

What about Leiberman? He was forced out of the Democratic Party for not being far enough to the left on the war.

Isabel Siaba, Brazil   November 2nd, 2009 10:15 pm ET

@ David, Indiana

I don't like to see bickering! American elections always leave me confused, are difficult for me to understand! :)

Mike, formerly from Syracuse   November 2nd, 2009 10:16 pm ET

You can't say Republicans are dead when they are about to win two Democratic governorships tomorrow.

Chris Sosa - Boston, MA   November 2nd, 2009 10:16 pm ET

I like how Mark just flatly refused to answer questions, preferring to loudly talk over Anderson and Roland in favor of long-winded unfocused anecdotes.

Scott   November 2nd, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Scozzafava was endorsed by hate-spewer Markos Moulitsas. 'Nuff said.

Joshua Wertheim   November 2nd, 2009 10:16 pm ET

No room for moderates? Baloney! In this country Obama proved that there is No Room For Idiots.

Except Sarah Palin unfortunately.

starr, formerly known as vincent   November 2nd, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Marx Lenin...what is Mark talking about?

The truth and the issues are really being "twisted" by the Tea Party people.

I understand Everyone's frustration....however, we need to work Together to solve problems, not be at "war" with each other.

Personally, i would like to see a "centrist" party formed, as that is what the majority of the nation is.

Emily   November 2nd, 2009 10:16 pm ET

that was an interesting panel there was Roland and Mark Williams....

2 hours LIVE tomorrow!!! :)
I hope that you all can make it for the full 2 hours!
Should be a great blog as usual, with an extra hour! :D

Michelle D. Fonthill .Ont   November 2nd, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Hi Anderson Welcome back 360 is not the same without you !

I think women and men are equal to working for the sake of the economy now that it's in bad shape two pay cheques are important.

Natalie   November 2nd, 2009 10:16 pm ET

I'm a registered Democrat and have been since I started voting at 18. I've become more conservative as fiscal issues have become more important to me. I find the far left much less abhorent than the far right and have therefore stayed put, but I would welcome a split in the Republican party, especially if it resulted in a moderate Republican third party that left the conservative social agenda to the right wingers. If that happened, I'd seriously consider switching parties to become a moderate Republican.

Manuel Mota, M.D.   November 2nd, 2009 10:17 pm ET

I agreed Anderson. It is great to have you back even though John did a great job. The following is dedicated to your legion of fans:
What does being LIBERAL mean?
If by "Liberal" they mean
someone who looks ahead and
not behind, someone who
wellcomes new ideas without rigid reactions,
someone who cares about the welfare of people:
their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs,....
If that is what they mean bay a "LIBERAL" then I'm
proud to say I AM A LIBERAL. (JFK, 1960 speech)

Manuel Mota, M.D.
Lake Mary, FL

LorenaR   November 2nd, 2009 10:17 pm ET

discussion getting heated! roland martin, you make such a good point when you say no national party can exist on the weight of its fringe. as far as i am concerned, conservatives and their neanderthal way of thinking are way out of touch, out of sync with the country and the world. They want to desperately hold on to the old default white world, and are terrified of the changes facing the human race.

Thomas   November 2nd, 2009 10:17 pm ET

Anderson,

As a Democrat I take offense to the generalization as being a liberal. I have conservative beliefs as well as liberal views. I believe in social programs for people who need help but I also believe in capital punishment. It 's like saying I'm only happy but never angry.

David, Indiana   November 2nd, 2009 10:17 pm ET

Mark Williams definitions of liberal and conservative are way to strict. You'd have to go a long way with either philosophy to even begin calling it permissive.

@Emily, you think a third party is needed? Maybe, we've seen that a bit, but I think the two party system works pretty well.

Jennifer - AZ   November 2nd, 2009 10:17 pm ET

The Constitution is a base, not the end all be all, and that is the way the founders intended. They understood that our systems need to be as dynamic as the world is. That is why we they gave us inclusions like separation of church and state and they ability to modify the Constitution.

Emily   November 2nd, 2009 10:18 pm ET

Karzai ~ "messy" indeed!

Isabel Siaba, Brazil   November 2nd, 2009 10:18 pm ET

@ David, Indiana

I don't like to see bickering!

stephanie   November 2nd, 2009 10:19 pm ET

Ithink we are heading for a 4 party. Welcome back anderson!

Megan Dresslar - Shoreline, WA   November 2nd, 2009 10:19 pm ET

Wow!!! Not good news for me hear actor Nicolas Cage had problem his finances! YIKES!

Michelle D. Fonthill .Ont   November 2nd, 2009 10:20 pm ET

Being liberalis not any differnt from any other view point .The politicans promises nver change and nothing gets done .People are still out of work and need jobs .

Emily   November 2nd, 2009 10:20 pm ET

@David, Indiana,
I don't think that a third party is needed, however both of them, many have gone to both extremes in the last decade.
I wondered if that was a 'sign' of some kind of a change...a bit of one.

Michelle D. Fonthill .Ont   November 2nd, 2009 10:21 pm ET

Too much bickering and fithting as to what's best for the people and they can't get thier act together .

Gregg - - Fla.   November 2nd, 2009 10:21 pm ET

Im confused on something, with the US knowing that the Karzai brothers are corrupt, one being in the drug business, i keep hearing all this talk about the poppy fields funding the Taliban, why is then that we arent sending in air support to trash these crops? seems like if we got rid of the money maker, they would be dead in the water, why arent they talking more about this?

Kath   November 2nd, 2009 10:21 pm ET

Welcome back Anderson.

That tea party guy is one very VERY scary man. I really do fear for the future of our country if his like and the likes of Limbaugh and Palin EVER get into power!!!

nadia   November 2nd, 2009 10:22 pm ET

Suzy orman is wrong .when a woman pushes for recognition , she is labelled agressive and combative ,when men do the same they are called assertive.
Arbitrary criteria define competence and character unfortunately are based on stereotypes and are made by men .
Antidiscrimination laws are outdated .they only address basic wages issues etc but not the more common and wide spread subtle and real today's froms of discrimination that hold women back .

Patricia J Dean   November 2nd, 2009 10:22 pm ET

Republicans are confused and they will destroy themselves at the pace they are going, more conservative mean more tight to the old ideas, racism, no gay rights, no opportunity for the less fortunate. The tea parties are going to backfire because America is watching this people acting against all odds, they have the money to go all over and the time, the regular American has 2 jobs or no job at all they don't have the time nor the money to go to this places and pretend that they just got off the May Flower and want to take the land away from the Native American Indian, in this case is the land of the working American what they want to take away.Sarah Palin is hurting the conservatoire candidate because he is getting contaminated with negative matter on Sarah's account. Good luck to the new conservative party where Palin is the lead singer.

Michelle D. Fonthill .Ont   November 2nd, 2009 10:22 pm ET

What did Nick Cage do with his investments did he have bad management or did he invest with Bernie Maddoff in the ponzi scheme?

Brad Ajax Ontario   November 2nd, 2009 10:22 pm ET

So according to your guest anyone with a liberal view is not compatable with the U.S. and is a faciest. Oh Please......

If more people on the far right start talking like that too, the Republican party will have to step up and start cleaning house or they will never win.

Janine from PA.   November 2nd, 2009 10:22 pm ET

I'll bet many stars get ripped off by people all the time. Mr. Cage just lost his dad I send him my sympathy at this time.

Michelle D. Fonthill .Ont   November 2nd, 2009 10:23 pm ET

No one is safe with money these days clebs have too much of it they get catrried away with spending it .

@Megan Dresslar Yikes is right !

Anthonia-(Bay Area)California   November 2nd, 2009 10:23 pm ET

Women are always making less money than men, and I am so angry that the goverment cannot mae men and women make the same workpay..! thats just so unfair!

Isabel Siaba, Brazil   November 2nd, 2009 10:23 pm ET

Wow! The numbers are impressive!

Emily   November 2nd, 2009 10:24 pm ET

@Megan,
That is really something about Cage....any Elvis fans out there?
I've heard that he's been quite the collector of Elvis memorabilia!

I want to hear more about this story....can be hard to feel sorry for these stars sometimes! (often....)

Mike, formerly from Syracuse   November 2nd, 2009 10:25 pm ET

So if Letterman had a hostile work environment, why are there no lawsuits?

Cyclone-Iowa   November 2nd, 2009 10:26 pm ET

As a female college senior soon to enter into the corporate world, I wish this was an issue addressed on campus to better prepare females of what to possible expect and how to fight back.

Cessy, Chicago IL   November 2nd, 2009 10:26 pm ET

I hope to see a woman President of the United States in my lifetime.

Emily   November 2nd, 2009 10:26 pm ET

If women are doing the same job/career as a man, they should be making the very same wage!
same hours, education, etc. same money!

Isabel Siaba, Brazil   November 2nd, 2009 10:26 pm ET

Wow! The numbers are impressive ... into the boys club.

Alyssa   November 2nd, 2009 10:27 pm ET

Well first of all, I normally don't like Roland Martin (he tends to sound like a foil to Bill O'Reilly), but compared to the other man, Roland is making a lot of sense.

It's unfortunate that Dede who clearly would have been able to reach across the aisle in her district felt obligated to drop out because of people like Rush Limbaugh saying she was too liberal.

The GOP needs to focus more on reconnecting their already disjointed party and they really should stop isolating one another because a moderate republican is too "left" for conservatives.

Casey Jones - Palm Springs, CA   November 2nd, 2009 10:27 pm ET

If you're gay you have some of these same issues as the women do (glass ceilings, etc.). However, for those who are truly committed to moving ahead (displayed in many ways), we learn to play the games better than those who are propagating the "club" rules. Then we gradually change the rules as we progress...

Gloria, Brooklyn, NY   November 2nd, 2009 10:27 pm ET

Pay me well for the job that I do well, and I am all right.

@Mike, formerly from Syracuse,
I'm sure that the lawsuits will be there soon!

Donna   November 2nd, 2009 10:28 pm ET

Yes, good for Anderson for calling Mark Williams out on his "Marxist" remarks. Next time, please tell him it is the DemocratIC party, even if he doesn't like the name

Breaking into the boys club is an interesting segment...I hope to see more of this...

Sue   November 2nd, 2009 10:29 pm ET

I think women don't like working for other women.
I knew about Letterman but the media let it go because he is a man and powerful and women dont like women bosses.
As a female, I dont believe how women view other women as a boss!

Casey Jones - Palm Springs, CA   November 2nd, 2009 10:29 pm ET

Suze is so right.

Mike, formerly from Syracuse   November 2nd, 2009 10:29 pm ET

You need to separate the traditional female jobs like secretary, nurse, etc. from the averages. Are women engineers paid less than male engineers? What are the apples to apples statistics?

Helen   November 2nd, 2009 10:29 pm ET

When the NFL has a Coed team, than we can talk about the white house including women when the guys play. I do not want my husband in my night with the girls. Those are non stories that the MSM love to focus on.

Talking about pay wage between men and women is an important story, but talking about basketball game is overeaching.

Michelle D. Fonthill .Ont   November 2nd, 2009 10:29 pm ET

Why shouldn't women work in the boys club we can do it as wel if not better .

Cessy, Chicago IL   November 2nd, 2009 10:29 pm ET

good point Suze!

Isabel Siaba, Brazil   November 2nd, 2009 10:30 pm ET

@Michelle D. Fonthill .Ont

So do I. I also like to see a woman president in America and Brazil.

Kelly - Harrisburg, PA   November 2nd, 2009 10:30 pm ET

I'm sure if one of the women on Obama's staff wanted to play bball, they would let her. Having played my share of pickup basketball games, I learned that most men THINK they can play basketball even if they can't :)

Jennifer - AZ   November 2nd, 2009 10:30 pm ET

I think it's true that women do not value or have the confidence in themselves in the workplace as much as a men do. I also think that maybe they do not value the "salary trophy" as much as men do. The nurturing side still applies- so many things are more important than money.

Gayle McCauley Malden,Mass.   November 2nd, 2009 10:31 pm ET

I think a lot of women can't 'get ahead' at work because other women can sometimes sabotage their efforts.I've seen it,more than I care to.

Christine   November 2nd, 2009 10:32 pm ET

You want to talk about the "boy's club"? I run a trucking company you ain't gonna get more "boys" than that. Try dealing with longshoremen and captians of the port, oh don't forget the brokers who all say honey, sweetie and babe. I really don't care what they say as long as they give my company a fair shot. But I do get more help for my drivers when I call the pier. I will use any means at my disposal to get my company a foot in the door.

I also don't agree with your panel. My mother told me never hide my smarts or let anyone tell me I can't do what I want or be what I want. Great woman my mom.

Emily   November 2nd, 2009 10:32 pm ET

this is an interesting panel with these 4 women!

I don't think that every woman has a hard time taking credit for what she does! ...there are many more positive female "role models" for women now too! (aside from our mothers, etc)....Women that we can look to and say, "I want to be like her..."

Megan Dresslar - Shoreline, WA   November 2nd, 2009 10:32 pm ET

I do love both of women Dee Meyers and Suze Orman, I agree with them too.

So in the interest of equality should high school and college sports teams be coed and allow the best people regardless of gender be on the team? Solves the Title 9 problems.

starr, formerly known as vincent   November 2nd, 2009 10:32 pm ET

I am sad to see that women are still making less money than men.

I was fortunate in my professional experience. I am, however, a fairly secure woman, who knew what value i brought to the table.

I was also lucky enough to work for corporations who also valued what i did for them.

It is certainly time for women to be taken very seriously in the working world. We are in the majority. Women do need to stand up for themselves, just like men. Confidence and performance are the key.

Helen   November 2nd, 2009 10:33 pm ET

How can a man who make 20 million goes broke? Maybe he invested with Bernie Madoff or had stocks in AIG or the real estate market. There could many legitimate answers than the ones MSM wants us to focus on.

Cynthia, NC   November 2nd, 2009 10:33 pm ET

Good evening. I've encountered the Boys Club in my career, but I have higher standards and morals than the those in the club. I am not afraid to challenge my boss on my pay, I've done it in the past and I'll do it again in the future. But, I agree there are women who do not stand up for themselves and allow their male superiors to basically beat them down. I've witnessed it and it angered me to no end.

Kathy Chicago   November 2nd, 2009 10:33 pm ET

Hi AC! Welcome home. John King and Erica did a great job while you were gone

LoriAnn Appelhans   November 2nd, 2009 10:34 pm ET

I was very fortunate to have a father who was not just a nuclear engineer – but a full bird coronel in the US Army. My mother may not have had the PhD – but by golly she was a smart cookie – they both treated my sister, brother and I as equal opportunity kids!

I realized after working for male dominated industries – education was the answer! 4 years part time MBA; 8 years semi part/full time PhD – and heck..no male I have met can do what I can!

Women just need to stand up for their worth and the worth of those that work for them.

Can not say enough about education – and the reality of being able to apply that!

Regards,
LA Appelhans

filene   November 2nd, 2009 10:34 pm ET

I think it's important to remember that the 'go bold, or go home' strategy can often backfire for women. It *is* important to ask for what we want, and to remember that we are entitled to the same as any man. But it's also key to understand that the roadblocks often are deeply ingrained in society, socialization and what sort of femal behavior is deemed acceptabl. Corporations as a whole need to understand the differences and embrace them, not subdue them. Dee Dee's right–those corporations will win.

Kelly - Harrisburg, PA   November 2nd, 2009 10:34 pm ET

I think women are more likely to share their successes with their team members, however, that's how you mobilize your team, so in the end, those women probably are better producers than the men that take all the credit.

That said, I've seen women totally hog all credit because of their own insecurity.

Jenn   November 2nd, 2009 10:34 pm ET

I think Suze is right...women are happy with status quo. A slow climb to the top, yes, a very slow climb.

As American women continue to have fewer children, they are slowly taking over (I mean, on) new roles.

Scott from LA   November 2nd, 2009 10:35 pm ET

I work for a company of 20,000 employees. There is a strong commitment to diversity at mid level and senior level positions. The women who tend to break into the boys club are those who are willing to frankly sacrifice their work/life balance more toward the work itself. Their significant others need to help give women to time to spend on the job.

Emily   November 2nd, 2009 10:35 pm ET

@ Gayle McCauley,
I agree with you...I think that women need to talk to each other and work together! ....women are notorious for stabbing each other in the back right from childhood!

Malia   November 2nd, 2009 10:35 pm ET

Anderson, welcome home! I missed you very, very much.

Ladies, you can break into the boys club with a bit of confidence and class.

Good evening everyone, Anderson, Erica, Bloggers, & AC360 team. Crazy stuff about Nicolas Cage. Not doing taxes? Well, I kind of understand that its irritating doing taxes, but look at the bright side, you get your tax rebates :-D or is that only here in Canada? :-P

Playing poker and being a doctor is not the same environment as working like at the post office

Joe Ann Jones   November 2nd, 2009 10:37 pm ET

My respect for Suze Ormond just went from a 10 to a 2. She hasn't a clue. When I brought up the facts of what I had learned about a co-worker who made a lot more money than I ,(with a lot less time on the job) I was out numbered and fired. So much for asking for what you want!

Jennifer - AZ   November 2nd, 2009 10:37 pm ET

My grandfather also said, the most important things you can possess is a sense of humor; it can get you through anything.

I needed Susie 20 some years ago. I was on track to be VP at the bank when I quit for my kids. I don't think that I could have given my best with two premies.

Bored_Watcher   November 2nd, 2009 10:38 pm ET

Family friendly? Competing for the jobs in question is not a "family friendly" quest no matter your gender.

Sharon Hastings   November 2nd, 2009 10:38 pm ET

Women will still have a hard time no matter how much they succeed in their careers if they are juggling a marriage and children and feel they need to keep all those plates in the air all by themselves. This is virtually impossible. It takes a special kind of family commitment by all in the family to make it work.

Emily   November 2nd, 2009 10:39 pm ET

Anderson, that was quite a tease that you just left us with there, re. Al Roker! YIKES!

David, Indiana   November 2nd, 2009 10:39 pm ET

@Isabel, me neither, but though I am guilty of it I have to admit.

It is surprising .58 to a 1.00 for women and me CEO's. How did they arrive at that number?

Interesting pt about quiet ego by Dr. Katrina Firlik but I think that could go for men as well as women.

Maria Ho is right the poker table is an even playing field, if you have the money what dictates success is one's experience in poker.

Anthonia-(Bay Area)California   November 2nd, 2009 10:39 pm ET

That was a great discussion about Women in the workfield, but wasnt that panel somewhat bias because there were no male representing their ideas and thoughts about how they feel about women being in the work field...???

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   November 2nd, 2009 10:39 pm ET

If women could learn to work together instead of against each other they could make some progress. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be in their nature.

Emily   November 2nd, 2009 10:40 pm ET

I hope that women get the same wage as men for the same work....
I LOVE MEN!!!
Not interested in ruling you guys, TOO much work!! :P

Jolene, St. Joseph, MI   November 2nd, 2009 10:40 pm ET

I work in a traditionally "male" dominated department and you just have to work that much harder to prove yourself. But once you prove yourself, you can be successful. I agree with the Doctor's advice....use humor. It's a great way to break into that "boys club" environment.

Good segment and discussion. Thanks.

Mike, formerly from Syracuse   November 2nd, 2009 10:41 pm ET

Most men get to the top by being workaholics. Are women as willing to put family second?

Judy O'Brien   November 2nd, 2009 10:42 pm ET

I do not agree that women don't ask for more pay and promotions.
Many women I work with have asked repeately for more pay and job challenges. The men in leadership postions dismiss us over and over and in my case I have left prior companies for more pay and responsibilities. I am in the IT industry and we need more women in leadership positions to help make those transitions. I also believe that many women in those top jobs feel there is only room for 1 woman and hence they do not reach back to help other women.

Cessy, Chicago IL   November 2nd, 2009 10:42 pm ET

I'd rather see Al Roker and Ewok than hear Nicolas Cage's finance troubles. He probabaly didnt pay his taxes.

Isabel Siaba, Brazil   November 2nd, 2009 10:42 pm ET

Was there a contract between the business manager and actor Nicolas Cage? How was it?

Gloria, Brooklyn, NY   November 2nd, 2009 10:42 pm ET

Many women do not know how much men are making on the same job. Men do not share that information because they might be making more then the women on the same job.

Hi, all – better late than never. Had some last-minute changes in edit.

Good to have AC back – tho I didn't miss the extra A/C in the studio! :-)

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   November 2nd, 2009 10:44 pm ET

I find it really difficult to have any sympathy for these celebrities. They are too lazy to take care of their own finances and then they cry foul.

Isabel Siaba, Brazil   November 2nd, 2009 10:44 pm ET

I like very much the movies Nocolas Cage, especially the last!

Sharon Hastings   November 2nd, 2009 10:44 pm ET

Boo hoo for Nicholas Cage. Look what he's selling. Looks like he bought a lot of stuff along the way. And don't you have to sign those income tax returns even though someone else prepares them?

Kelly - Harrisburg, PA   November 2nd, 2009 10:44 pm ET

I'm having a hard time building up any sympathy for Cage right now.

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   November 2nd, 2009 10:45 pm ET

The rich and famous can't seem to take care of their taxes.

Casey Jones - Palm Springs, CA   November 2nd, 2009 10:45 pm ET

This is an old story. We've heard this so many times before now. Did Mr. Cage ever sign any tax returns? It's hard for me to feel sorry for him, especially considering his substantial assets. I think he's doing more harm (to his likeability and his reputation) than good.

starr, formerly known as vincent   November 2nd, 2009 10:45 pm ET

Nickolas Cage is not the first celebrity to have been "duped" by their financial managers. There a quite a few "stars" who have been left broke and standed by their managers.

Just goes to show you, that you should Always be involved with your own finances!

Gady Mayen - Hamilton, Canada   November 2nd, 2009 10:45 pm ET

Where has Anderson been all this time? And true Erica, better late than never. Its like saying something is always better than nothing :-)

Mike, formerly from Syracuse   November 2nd, 2009 10:45 pm ET

Didn't Cage realize that he hadn't signed a 1040 in a few years?

Isabel Siaba, Brazil   November 2nd, 2009 10:45 pm ET

@ Erica

I was missing you in the live blog. Good to have you here with us!

Emily   November 2nd, 2009 10:46 pm ET

@Mike, formerly from Syracuse,
I know more men that are "stay-at-home" fathers, when the children are first born, and their wives', they are the "workaholics" now...
Hard to believe that they are doing the same work as their male co-workers for such a wage difference.

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   November 2nd, 2009 10:46 pm ET

The rich and famous never seem to take responsibility for any of their problems, not their addictions, not their failed marriages, and not their financial problems.

Emily   November 2nd, 2009 10:47 pm ET

@Erica,
"better later than never" for sure!"

Hope that you had a great weekend...and yous are doing well! :)

These celebs should go to prison!

Cessy, Chicago IL   November 2nd, 2009 10:48 pm ET

Anderson, the only lesson to be learn here is to pay your taxes!!! It is his money and for someone who has been in the business, it is his responsibility to make sure his finances are taken care of. How long has this been going on for him to accumulate $6M in debt?

carolyn j   November 2nd, 2009 10:48 pm ET

oh sorry for you ERICA....I KEEP my RM at 60 degrees..kills all germs.
good sweaters work....good luck ...how are yah?

Cynthia, NC   November 2nd, 2009 10:48 pm ET

I wonder how often Nicolas Cage had reviews with his business manager? Probably not often enough since Cage didn't know he was $6 million behind in taxes. Cage should have taken a look at those income tax forms he was signing each year.

Isabel Siaba, Brazil   November 2nd, 2009 10:48 pm ET

@ David, Indiana

Yes, the wrong part in a discussion must admit. Today this has not been common, to our sorrow!

Emily   November 2nd, 2009 10:49 pm ET

An excuse for everything!!!

It was (& IS) always up to me to review my work, etc. even if others are doing it!

They ARE his taxes!!!
No sympathy here!

A/C in the studio...that is so funny Erica!

Lori from IL   November 2nd, 2009 10:53 pm ET

@ Erica Hill - Why do these people really need a business manager? Learn to take care of your own finances and consult the appropriate experts (taxes, broker, etc.) then you don't run the risk of being taken advantage of by a biz. manager.

Danny Espino   November 2nd, 2009 10:53 pm ET

I think Nichols Cages taxes is ones business. We all know he makes money. He could pay 6 millon and still have millions left. I believe this is a over sight by his manager and will be corrected right away. Keep doing what you do best Mr Cage. If you look right now on HBO, Showtime, Starz channels etc. You will find at least 3 of his movies on.

gretchen   November 2nd, 2009 10:53 pm ET

@mike/syracuse,women put their families on the back burner all the time, and we work long hours, and we still don't get equal pay.But I've also found out we pay more for insurance, dry cleaning, and car repair. What in the world is wrong with you men, when you know women do most of the shopping. The inequality stinks,we must get down and dirty again like the women of the womens movement of the 60's and 70's.Women need to also stick up for each other.

Jolene, St. Joseph, MI   November 2nd, 2009 10:53 pm ET

She looks like a great mother...and her son is cute! :)

Glad both are safe!

David, Indiana   November 2nd, 2009 10:54 pm ET

How did the business manager manage to not file Nicolas Cage's taxes?

I think a hard working actor might be in danger of losing track of finances because of a demanding career. Actually anyone can sympathize with that, who wants to lose what they've earned by accident.

I cannot believe AC had the nerve to actually report on this! Or maybe I do..... it must have been a slow news day, what with the ewoks and all. Please.... just charge stupid Cage for tax evasion and move on. It's not news worthy.
