Editor's Note: After last night's AC360°, many of you wrote in about Drew Griffin's report on the alleged corruption in American Samoa. While some felt there were more important things to be reporting on, the majority of you praised the effort to “keep them honest.” And many of you were appalled by the story of the gang rape of the 15-year-old.

I think it is a waste of time and effort to track a story about federal money for 6500 residents of our territory in Samoa. Send the time, reporters and resources and affect "real" change in the billions of bailout money to the multinational banks the US government bailed and their refusal to comment on what they did with our money. Don't sacrifice little fish for appearance sake – hunt big sharks.
The abuse of the taxpayer continues over and over. Our national symbol should be the ostrich!!!!
Although I live here in California, I have many family members in American Samoa. I hear many things about the government system in place back home. For years, there has always been talk about corruption amongst the government officials. It's only because of the recent disaster that it (corruption) is becoming more widely known. If I had to identify where all the money has gone to over the past 10 years, I would have to say "useless government jobs, useless government projects!" Back home, it is widely known that, it is not WHAT you know, but WHO you know. The money, whether it be for law enforcement, utilities, construction / repair, education, or even "disaster preparedness", the amount of waste and greed is staggering! An investigation NEEDS to be conducted. And, by people NOT connected to any of the persons in government over there.
As a 34 year resident of this Territory I applaud your effort to expose the corruption we have had to live with. Did you know that we use the US tax system but this government has frozen it as of the year 2000? Our 2010 taxes will be using the 2000 tax code. Your comment on 6000 ASG employees is not for the economy but is a voting base for the incumbent. A sorry state.
Thank you for being a Watchdog on wasteful spending...Big Government = Big Waste! I hope America wakes up in time!
Until we start executing sex offenders, they will continue to share the Earth with us. When sex offenders come crawling to the surface, be they adolescent gang-rapists, or elderly pedophiles, they should be put to death by the State. We will never cure society of the problem... but at the very least, we should physically destroy the perpetrators of such offenses when we get our hands on them. Every single last one of the CA High School gang rapists should be murdered by the government. They should all be put to death like animals... or perhaps even cruelly and unusually.
I can only imagine the terror this young woman felt while being so violently attacked while many looked on and did nothing. I would like to see the girl being given the opportunity to decide the punishment for those found guilty of this act for which she may never get over, physically or mentally. To suggest that it is a school's responsibility to develop empathy in young people is merely adding one more "PARENTAL" responsibility to their already burdensome workload. Development of empathy needs to start in the home even before a child even reaches school age. Let's start expecting parents to begin positive parenting rather than leave it up to someone else to do it for them.
