There are 3,626 songs in my music library.
Some are played every day, others just a few times a year. There are songs that remind me of relationships I've royally screwed up (Hoobastank's "The Reason") and a few on my iPhone that were clearly DWIs - downloaded while intoxicated (think Huey Lewis and the News, circa 1985).
But despite the wide range of emotions triggered by my 3,626 songs, I typically don't have a problem listening to any of them at any given time.
Except for four: "Run It," "Forever," "With You" and "Kiss Kiss." Haven't played them since last winter.
For those of you a little slow on the pop culture uptake, these are all songs by Chris Brown, the R&B singer who back in February assaulted his then-girlfriend, singer Rihanna, was sentenced to 180 days of community service, and now, eight months later, wants us to download his new music. And forgive him.

October 27th, 2009 12:02 pm ET I bet he wants you to download his music!!! He is trying way to hard to put the past behind him. Instead, what he needs to do is worry about paying for his crime. Think about it, people still look down at Vick... but no one says that he did not pay for his crime. How is that any different for Chris Brown? Simple, Chris is expecting everyone to forgive him. To me that shows that he is still in a state of "what did i do wrong". Daniel Vollmer |

October 27th, 2009 1:12 pm ET Forgiveness is not outside the realm of possibility for this young man. I have forgiven him, but, like you, a lot of people have not and never will. He made a serious mistake. The thing is, no one knows the whole story, only the end result, which was truly horrible. I attribute a lot of that to his age. He is doing the "time" as sentenced by the judge, so what's left? He tries to pick up the pieces of his life and career. It's not going to be easy, because he'll forever be seen as a villian by many. The shame in all of this is that as talented as he is, not many are/will be willing to take a chance on him, as many will be offended by his presence. I truly hope he learns from this debacle that he and Rhianna created. That will be the true test. Passing or failing are squarely on the shoulders of Chris Brown. Will he learn from his dispicable actions or will he be doomed to repeat them? |
