Firefighters continue to battle flames in California today. Over the weekend two firefighters were killed fighting the blaze. The fires, which started last Wednesday, now threaten some 12,000 homes and have spread to more than 42,000 acres. On Friday, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency. We’ll have the latest news on the fires tonight.
Back to school takes on a new meaning this fall when students of all ages are forced to deal with an unwelcome visitor: H1N1 swine flu. At college universities around the country swine flu is out in full force. Elizabeth Cohen goes to the University of Kansas, where in more than a week, the school had close to 200 suspected cases of the flu. Cohen looks at how college health professionals are responding and how sick students are coping.
Speaking of the H1N1 virus, a new report says that two-thirds of people in the U.S. plane to get the H1N1 swine flu vaccine? Are you among this group? Where and how can people get the vaccine? Dr. Sanjay Gupta will be on tonight to answer your questions about the spread of the flu and the specifics of the vaccine and its availability. Do you have a question for him? Post it here.
We’re also following the latest on the kidnapping case of Jaycee Lee Dugard, who lived in her captor’s backyard for more than 18 years. It turns out she helped his bottom line, as the creative force behind his specialty printing business. Three northern California law enforcement agencies have joined the investigation of Phillip Craig Garrido saying he may have been responsible for other crimes. We’ll have the latest on the investigation from Dan Simon tonight.
And the release over the convicted Lockerbie bomber, Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed al Megrahi, keeps getting more and more controversial. Oil deals, trade agreements and politics have all been implicated in the conspiracy theories surrounding his release. Will we ever know the behind-the-scenes story?
Over the weekend, Dick Cheney claimed that Attorney General Eric Holder’s decision to have a prosecutor review the cases against CIA interrogators is a purely political one and will harm the CIA. But Sen. John McCain said yesterday that the use of torture on terrorism suspects violated international law, didn’t work and actually helped al Qaeda recruit more members. Will Cheney have to answer more questions? More tonight.

I have been in Southern California all my life but have never heard of, until this morning, of a wildfire the size of the Stanton Fire doubling in size over night with little wind. I know fire create its own wind but California has had is share of wind driven fires. The California Fire agency have felt the budget cuts and some have not been happy about the cuts. I will not challenge the motivation of our brave firefighters because they are true heroes. That takes me back to the cuts to our fire fighting resources and is it affecting the fire fighters ability to fight the Stanton Fire?
Anderson this is bad one and not likely going to get better soon enough, are you going?
Has there been any communication as to when the LA County Fire Dept. will ask for other communities/Cal Fire to lend a hand? It would be a shame for them to wait too long and lose more ground in the fire than is necessary. Thanks!
I do not plan on getting the swine flu vaccine. Not enough testing.
I do not plan to get the vaccine, and I would not want my family members to get it either.
This vaccine was manufactured too quickly. It hasn't had enough testing yet.
How many times have we heard about a prescription (or even OTC) medication being pulled off the shelves after many people had a bad reaction to it? I feel that I woud be taking a greater risk by getting the vaccine than by using precautions and trying to avoid the flu naturally.
Since the kidnapping case broke, it seemed that a lot of unrevealed details would emerge, as some things about the initial story didn't make sense, like Jaycee Dugard's role and relationship to the kidnapper. The story is not pertinent enough on a national scale to use so much news time; it's more for the tabloids but interesting. I live close to Rancho Palos Verdes where one of the CA fires started; glad 360 is covering this. Looks like a really interesting line-up for tonight.
Happy Monday Eliza and 360 team !
I pray for the people in California and thier families who have had thier homes destroyed it's devestating . I look forward to the swine flu segment it's still around and not gone away yet . This is never ending .
Thanks for the buzz
