Former Vice President Dick Cheney is again taking aim at President Obama, issuing a statement Monday suggesting the administration's decision to name a prosecutor to investigate CIA interrogations under President Bush fuels "doubts about this administration's ability to be responsible for our nation's security."
"The people involved deserve our gratitude," Cheney said in the statement. "They do not deserve to be the targets of political investigations or prosecutions."
The former vice president also said documents released Monday prove enhanced interrogation techniques yielded valuable information that "provided the bulk of intelligence we gained about al Qaeda."
"This intelligence saved lives and prevented terrorist attacks," Cheney said. "These detainees also, according to the documents, played a role in nearly every capture of al Qaeda members and associates since 2002."

August 25th, 2009 3:19 pm ET If we created the government how come we cannot trust it? And, i know that if someone does wrong(Dick Cheney) and Bush admin. they should go to jail no matter what they say they prevented because they could have even made things worse by doing something they know was totally illegal. Would you want your child being interrogated by terrorist using these techiniques? come on where's the justice. I believe theres a lot of evil floatin in the air |

August 25th, 2009 3:34 pm ET I really can't understand why the media covers Mr. Cheney at all. We have put the past behind us, except for the fact that we are at war, still; we have a financial crisis not seen in decades, we had "untruths" told to us by this man and others...and his reactions to the statement that Americans were beginning to have doubts about the validity of the war was, "So......" If and when Mr. Cheney has anything to say, put your pens down and turn your recorder to "mute". |

August 25th, 2009 3:54 pm ET st night watching cnn i cought a little of ac360 where thay were having quite a lively debate on the question of the tourture that may or may not have happened at guantonamo bay and other detanie locations that the united states used durring and after the terriorist attacks and the war in Afganistan and Iraq specificly if using tourture was right or wrong, In my opinion using tourture against terriorist is solidly wrong specificly because in a war with the terriorist it is not a war against a specific goverment, there is no capital to take, no resources to keep the enemy from having, the enemy is not a monolitic country reather the enemy is ideals and those that follow those ideals I do not see how we can stand against an enemy who follows their own ideals (Currently the conversion or distruction of infadels) when we ourselves forsake our own ideals by using tourture we may be following the letter of our own laws (regrettably I am not a lawyer and do not fully understand all the laws) but we are ignoreing the spirit of those selfsame laws. |

August 25th, 2009 3:57 pm ET No I wouldn't. But that is not going to STOP terrorist from using. And I only hope Obama never has to make a decision, like that. but, if he does and people don't agree with his methods, should he be brought up on charges also? And I think when your POTUS, you have millions upon millions of people's lives in your hands, should you take the time to second guess yourself, or do what you feel is necessary at the time? |

August 25th, 2009 3:58 pm ET Does anybody remember those planes that were aimed and hit the world trade center, the pentagon. Watching those people jump to their deaths. Watching those buildings come crumbling down with people in them. Or Daniel Pearl beheaded, or that other american who was beheaded on tape for all to see by monsters who do not value human life. Do not give them human attributes or qualities. They are cancer and they must be destroyed and Cheney in this instance is right. Without national security any policy issues are irrevalent when you have no country. Obama is setting a very dangerous precedent by going after a previous administration. Any administration in the future would be at risk for the same thing happening simply because of party politics. The Bush administration is over. Move forward and move on and keep our country safe from terrorists. Counter terrorism isn't supposed to be kind. Would you rather we say "hey can we talk can we work this out?" They laugh at us. They train to kill. We are the biggest and best country on this planet. We have the best military on the planet. These terrorists must be stopped and we must do everything in our power to destroy all of them. What ever it takes. I may be a Democrat but I do miss Darth Cheney. |

August 25th, 2009 6:20 pm ET Did someone forget to tell Cheney that he was irrelevant to US politics now? That he had been voted out of office and that he should fold up his tent and go home? Perhaps we are hearing so much from him because the trail of torturous behavior at Gitmo leads back to him and he is dancing now to avoid the hangman later, figuratively speaking. Lets move on – if Cheney wants to keep talking give him a rubber room and let him talk to himself all he wants. |

August 25th, 2009 7:46 pm ET No, Cheney's not irrelevant anymore. In fact, he's about to become *particularly* relevant - focal, in fact. Let him keep talking, and someone be sure to hide a recorder in that rubber room to document every atrocity he recalls about his ex-boss' time in office. |

August 25th, 2009 8:09 pm ET Good Grief! We have heard more from Cheney since he left office than we did in the 8 yrs. he was in. Fear, fear, fear, these are the only words he seems to know in his old age. Have him hide in a cave somewhere(like Bin Laden) if he is so afraid. |

August 25th, 2009 9:30 pm ET It was a big mistake holding terrorists for questioning in the first place. The best solution is sometimes the simplest: two in the head, make sure they're dead. By failing to send this human garbage to Allah, we now have to listen to the Obama political machine assert their self-professed moral superiority. For all you whiny libs who support this travesty, just remember that there are bad things people have to do sometimes, so you can sit on your swollen liberal butts and lament about making these murderers 'uncomfortable'. Can I assume you would feel better if these people were never captured, never interrogated, but allowed to run free to kill your children? |
