Sarah Palin told a crowd in Fairbanks that she accomplished what she had promised as governor.
Sarah Palin told a crowd in Fairbanks that she accomplished what she had promised as governor.

Lynne Snifka
Alaska Dispatch

At 1 p.m. at the governor's picnic at Pioneer Park in Fairbanks, about 40 people stood in line to get a hotdog and a bag of potato chips from then-Lt. Governor Sean Parnell. At the next tent over, the one where Sarah Palin plopped wieners into buns, the line snaked past the barbecue stand, past the Alaska Railroad car, and down the row of pioneer cabins that had been converted into gift shops.

"There's not a lot that happens in Fairbanks in the summertime," said a man who drove the 120 miles from Minto for the event. "We came to soak in the vibes."

Alongside Palin's tent, dozens crushed against a double barricade snapping photos. One man held a handmade sign up as though he was outside the studio of the Today show trying to get in the outgoing governor's line of sight. "Texans Love You," it read. About an hour later, another sign popped up in the crowd: "Texas Can Have Her."

The outgoing governor looked camera ready - coiffed, makeuped and clad in jeans, a black T-shirt and a light blue jacket. Flanked by state troopers and assorted commissioners, she mugged for cameras and took breaks from serving hot dogs to sign autographs.

WHEN WILL SARAH PALIN ADMIT THAT SHE OFTEN LIED TO THE ALASKAN PEOPLE.

lampe   July 27th, 2009 3:12 pm ET

CNN; What will you report on, now that you won't have Gov. Palin to trash? Oh, I know! How about the real NEWS? You know, like The ECONOMY, The UNEMPLOYMENT RATE, ObamaCare? One of those topics, might really make you a NEWSWORTHY STATION?

Rick   July 27th, 2009 3:48 pm ET

With the stupid names she expects her children to live with, she sounds more like a leftover from the 60's Woodstock era rather than a serious politician. When she opens her mouth I cringe wondering what gems she will come out with next, but, she must close her eyes and thank god for John Mc Cain, at least he has given her a way of paying her legal fees and make a few extra dollars. Imagine the mess she would be in if she had never met him ?

Belgium - Linda,Colorado   July 27th, 2009 4:30 pm ET

I think the media should stop reporting about what Sarah Palin is doing or not doing.

It's over.

LJRoy   July 27th, 2009 4:55 pm ET

Now she will be able to focus on the bigger prize...2012. She may be the only pro-life candidate running.

I hope she sticks around a long time. There are not enough politicians like her.

Jeffery   July 27th, 2009 4:56 pm ET

I like Sarah Palin and I hope she goes to Washington and continues her political career!

Heidi   July 27th, 2009 4:57 pm ET

Honestly, she's a cartoon character. Please report on something else.

RLWellman   July 27th, 2009 5:04 pm ET

Sounds like lots of sour grapes to me. It's too bad the Liberals can't treat her the same way they would like treated. Maybe they like being called names, that's why they do it to her.

Mark Stoltz   July 27th, 2009 5:19 pm ET

I really think the news has become tabloid fodder...Anderson this isn't something any of us want to continue reading about. Let's talk about the unemployment rate which is probably well above 30 percent. Stimulus packages and health care are far more news worthy then some incoherent politician who doesn't have the problem's that so many of us have. Let's get back to reality and stop this circus.

Kathy Moore   July 27th, 2009 5:34 pm ET

If she would just LEAVE already.

Tammy, Houma, LA   July 27th, 2009 5:43 pm ET

While I may not have always agreed with Sarah Palin on every issue, I will always appreciate her pro-life stance, her ability to walk her talk, and her ability to stand as a role model for all conservative and moderate women who don't buy liberal feminism as a way of life (for the first time as a moderate pro-life professional woman, I felt I had someone truly representing my values and beliefs in the political arena). I seriously doubt this is good-bye at all, but instead a hello to something greater.

Mike   July 27th, 2009 5:55 pm ET

Say what you will, but there is no denying that she is not the most educated in the GOP. Frankly, I think she is an embarrasment to all women, with her ultra-conservative views. The far right loves to cast the first stone, but GOD forbid any are thrown back at them, since only they are in touch with the Lord and are capable of carrying out his wishes.

Annie Kate   July 27th, 2009 6:02 pm ET

Well at least now she has more time to look at Russia from her back door. Palin needs to keep quiet and study up on the issues of the day and the world. Once she has some facts behind her pronouncements she might be worth taking a listen to.

Ben   July 27th, 2009 6:02 pm ET

I tired of hearing about the trivial details of both her life and Obama. America is in real trouble. Report important news. I can read about this crap in the checkout line at the supermarket

Mari   July 27th, 2009 6:06 pm ET

"We Say Goodbye......." ???? Can you guarantee that?

Palin news is like tabloid news! We have SO many more important news out there.

For example, did anyone go see the new documentary "Food, Inc." I found out that Monsanto who owns the patent on most if not ALL the seeds farmers use, has secret detectives who SPY on our farmers to make sure they are following Monsanto's rules!

IS this America the Land of the Free or are we now a fascist state in which American citizens are being spied on by Corporations???

Please folks, go see "Food, Inc."!

Joanne Osinkowski Ontario Canada   July 27th, 2009 6:08 pm ET

Like I said, everytime she opens that whole nothing but " WORD VOMIT" spills out. If she is going to be stumping for the GOP Obama has no worries, he will be Pres again if he runs in 2012...:)

TheWizard   July 27th, 2009 6:15 pm ET

Now the Alaska oil companies can bring on their fight for more oil drilling and it won't hurt 'her' political endeavors, because those same oil companies will want her in the Whitehouse in 2012 to protect their interests.

Jojo   July 27th, 2009 6:59 pm ET

Sarah Palin is a whinner. She is also... for lack of a better word, a coward. She quit because she is a quitter, and she blames the media and hollywood for it. If she wins the republican nomination in 2012.. I am moving to Canada.. She is what is wrong with this country.

Linda B., Ga.   July 27th, 2009 7:10 pm ET

Good Riddance......

Regardless of what one may think of Gov. Palin, either as a politician or a person, the media is certainly to be criticized for the completely negative bias displayed by a good 90% of them. I guess I'm old enough to remember when the 4th estate was respected for reporting events as they actually occurred, not as they wished to slant the news to support their own agenda. How very sad to have watched it fall into disgrace.
