Today in Washington, some politicians like to suggest that the many challenges we face as a nation mean we shouldn't tackle health care reform. Nothing could be further from the truth.
With more and more of America's families, businesses, and local, state and federal governments struggling with the crushing costs of health care, health care reform has never been more important.
As President Obama has often said, you can't fix the economy without fixing health care. Unless we fix what is broken in our current system, everyone's health care will be in jeopardy. Health care reform is not a luxury. It is a necessity.

July 15th, 2009 10:53 am ET I completely agree. Unfortunately, the Republicans don't. They'd rather continue to rob people blind with no restrictions and seem to also want us to go back to the days before labour laws. |

July 15th, 2009 12:35 pm ET Nope – we must rush this piece of crap plan through before anyone realizes how bad it really is. Just like they had to rush through the stimulus/spending bill that did absolutely nothing to stop the bleeding economy and made the economy even worse. Melissa – At it again, your posts show you have no real understanding of the party you support. The tax and spend Democrats. Guess that's ok to you, since you probably pay no taxes anyway and want everyone else to provide for you. Aren't you capable of supporting yourself? Some day you will realize free isn't free. |

July 15th, 2009 12:35 pm ET The best way to make sure we have a good healthcare system once it is overhauled is to make sure that all government employees inculding all Senators and congressmen, their family's and staff are all covered by the same plan they put together for the American Public. |

July 15th, 2009 2:35 pm ET We need health care reform now. Too many people are going without medical care because of lack of insurance or high co pays. |

July 15th, 2009 2:40 pm ET Why have we not heard that all of the US Congress and all Govt. Employees will also take part in the new health plan that the President and Congress is developing. As I recall, this was something Obama talked about on the campaign trail. If we are to have a new health plan it should include all Americans. |

July 15th, 2009 2:52 pm ET Today's health care has gone down hill. With rising prices everywhere, people cannot afford to get sick. I do agree with the new health care plan to an extent. People are abusing the plan we already have in effect, medicaid. The plan Obama has proposed makes the taxpayers pay to assist in creating a new plan but forgets about the people that are sitting at home living off the goverment not atempting to get a job. Todays population is over 300 million people. I think that the United States' health care plan should be a plan that works for every american. If each person has 1% taken out of each paycheck a month, America would have over 50 billion dollars for health care. Every health care plan that is proposed should have obvious qualifications for benefits and the main priority is that the person must be contributing money in, i.e. HAVE A JOB! |

July 15th, 2009 3:19 pm ET Health care can certainly wait, for at least five years! The government is reaching to far,to soon, for a brass ring that's artificially tethered to a sense of urgency that doesn't exist. Where does the figure 46mn. come from, other than the 15-18mn. illegal immigrants included, and the millions that don't want health insurance,ie.) the twenty/thirty yr. old generation-that pockets the premiums to pay for their toys? Secondly,an 85% (inflation is a factor) increase in approx. 10 yrs. isn't that much,if you look at the enhanced benefits these new programs offer. Lastly, what concerns me is the business community readying themselves to off-load their responsibility onto "Uncle Sam",as they methodically, and predictably have been doing for the last twenty+ yrs.,irresponsible for their actions, with the congress gladly accepting their "Dole-Out on K-St.(heads turned-hands out, all! PS. Just think what the government will do with all the money that grows into a," large pot of gold",(only to be pilfered) to be picked clean by congress with thier papered over (worthless) "IOU's" ,that have bankrupt Social Security, and Medicare, once very lucritive an viable "government sponsered enterprises"! Just think? |

July 15th, 2009 5:46 pm ET We are one trillion dollars in debt. The new Health Care Reform Bill will cost another trillion dollars. Just where do you think think this money is coming from? On trees? Who do you think the Government is going to rob to pay for this? Every United States citizen that pays taxes, but this may not include you. If my memory serves me correctly, it was the Democrats that wrote the first Stmulis Bill while then Barrack Obama was still in the Senate. It had no restrictions. The 2nd Stimulis Bill was wrote by Democrats while President Obama was in office and it had no restrictions. You should really get your facts straight before you talk about Republicans and no restrictions because it makes you look stupid! The Government wants more control over us and if it is restrictions you want, it's restrictions you will get. They will tell you if you can go to the doctor, which doctor you can go to, and when you can go to him. If you need to get your gall bladder out, you may have to wait 3-5 years. Why? Because we are going to copy after the Canadian and English Health Care. You may also want to buy a second policy to help pay for things that aren't paid for like the English do. Do you think the Government will have this same policy? Of course not. They have one that pays 100%, it's called you and me paying our taxes. CNN, you must not have liked my first response, since you deleted it! |
