President Obama has urged Congress to work quickly on creating a health care reform bill.
President Obama has urged Congress to work quickly on creating a health care reform bill.

Charles W. Boustany Jr.
Special to CNN

Americans deserve the best health care system in the world - one that emphasizes quality, but reduces cost, so all Americans can participate.

As a doctor, I saw firsthand the problems many patients face finding a doctor, navigating the system, and paying their health care bills.

Unfortunately, Democrats' plans in Congress fail to focus on quality. House Republican Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, recently stated that the Democrats were proposing "a government-run nightmare operated by federal bureaucrats."

I'll ask the same question again. What makes anyone think the Government can run a Nationalized Health Care? Where do you think this money is going to come from? Someone made the comment about "free money", there is no free money. The Government will tax you and me to get money to run this program.

Why does the Government want to do this? They want more control over you and me. This doesn't seem to bother a lot of you and a lot of you think you will get something for nothing. Wrong! You will be trading in your freedom.

The Government can't run Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, or the Post Office, but a lot of you think they can run Nationalized Health Care. Wake up people, you can't get something for nothing. It will cost you something down the road.

Maybe you don't mind losing your freedom, but I do. You can't get something for nothing.

Just more Republican doomsaying. I'm so tired of hearing. The Republicans need to be muzzled. They are the reason we are in this mess and I'm sick to death of them trying to push the responsibility to someone else. They sure talk about responsibility except when it comes to themselves. If its a Republican, they don't think they have to be responsible for anything. Ever.

Thank you Dr. Boustany for being an honest, intelligent voice in this healthcare debacle. Right now, I have excellent healthcare insurance through my job and doctors and access to hospitals that I trust with my life (literally). The words of politicians and a president who have already broken promises do little to guarantee that I won't lose that insurance or the availability of those doctors or hospitals if the government further involves itself in private healthcare. Maybe the government should do a better job of working on fixing the charity system, the CHIP program, Medicare/Medicaid, and COBRA for those who use it so they have access to quality healthcare through those programs. Instead of destroying what isn't broken for those of us who use private insurance and healthcare, maybe the government should fix their own disaster areas first.

@Melissa, I challenge you to find one government run program that isn't a mess. They ARE nightmares. Republicans didn't create the health care 'mess'. Even the nonpartisan GAO says the program will cost much more tghan Obama syas. By the way, both Medicade and Medicare have greatly exceeded their original estimates. If you think health care is expensive now, wait until it's 'free'.

To correct health care need to look at the problems such as:
Unnecessary proceedures, malpractice insurance, obesity and addiction to stimulants and prescription drugs, overmedication, indiscriminate sex and venereal diseases, unnecessary visits to doctors and hospitals for minimal discomfort. The list goes on.Mental and emotional health starting in childhood.
