Thank you for your report Michael. I wonder if Mullah Omar would even consider a diplomatic means to the end of the chaos. The inhumanity the Taliban have shown is astounding; buying children for suicide bombings is their most callous act.

Depend on Michael Ware to find this out and report on it. I hope something good comes from it – talking to the enemy never hurt anything and might save us years of warfare and many deaths. I hope the US will talk with the Taliban.

Interesting report ... by implication we need to make a "pact with the devil" or at least Mullah Omar, if we are ever going to end the war in Afghanistan. Historically nobody has successfully fought and won in an armed campaign against these heavily armed, fierce tribesmen. The British army was repelled in the North West Frontier; in the dying embers of the Soviet regime they failed too and so now it is the turn of NATO and Pakistani forces. It appears that despite much greater sophistication in weaponary and signals intelligence the Western allies are no match for the Taliban. Sooner or later we will have to face that uncomfortable reality I guess.

Maybe this is the solution? Let these countries deal with each other and lets get the heck out of this mess. IF targets of opportunity pop up we can use our technology to eliminate them while our troops can return home, get some well deserved rest and repairs.
