I listened, I heard, not sure the message was full.
Benigna Marko

Shannon   July 3rd, 2009 4:45 pm ET

huh?

Tammy, Houma, LA   July 3rd, 2009 4:46 pm ET

Can we say 2012? Oy.

audrey   July 3rd, 2009 4:48 pm ET

Will wonders never cesse. It is about time, I have never seen such a stupid woman in power. What on earth were the people of Alaska thinking when they elected her. Was there really no other life forms to choose from?

ReformingJournalism   July 3rd, 2009 4:49 pm ET

The new governor, Sean Parnell is usually reported as "missing in action." I have friends in Alaska who say he doesn't have a public face at all and is usually very, very far from the spotlight. One local talk host there printed t-shirts saying "Where is Parnell?" This will be awkward for both Alaskans and Parnell. I can't wait to write on how the press will cover this over the coming days...

cinda   July 3rd, 2009 4:51 pm ET

Wow, what timing! This should get some attention on "me" and get Michael Jackson out of the limelight, right, Sarah?

Pathetic.

Don't come looking for my support down the line. As in the past you continue to prove yourself an embarrasment to women.

Bill C.   July 3rd, 2009 4:53 pm ET

Palin's reasoning in deciding to quit suggests any politician serving out their last term as a lame duck should exit stage left rather than finish the work they were elected to do. Bizarre. If we elected her to a second term as president, would she leave early, too? All the reason not to elect her to a first term.

Steve L. Cadwell   July 3rd, 2009 4:53 pm ET

What a lot of nothing. She doesn't think a lame duck is good for the great state of Alaska. So she resigns and lets the Lt. Gov. be a lame duck for TGSOA.

BatteryGirl   July 3rd, 2009 4:55 pm ET

who cares?!?!!!!

Dr. Helio Brasil   July 3rd, 2009 4:56 pm ET

She is only stepping down in anticipation of bigger and better things, although she better get better informed or more familiar with world world and National Political theaters. She would be better off finishing her current term as Governor of Alaska.

Leon   July 3rd, 2009 4:56 pm ET

I'm 14 years old, when 2012 comes around I will be able to vote finally! I have always liked Sarah Palin especially because of her views on family values and education. So as of right now, HOPEFULLY Sarah will run, and if she does I'll vote for her!

Jessica Jones   July 3rd, 2009 4:56 pm ET

Wow. this is the smartest she's sounded in a minute.. I always hoped she would end on a good note..even tho I would never support her...Good Job Sara

Albert Price   July 3rd, 2009 4:58 pm ET

While professing "I ain't never misbehaving", exhibiting symptoms of paranoid persecution and manipulating the media with magician-like misdirections Sarah Palin feigns financial fibrillations at the cost to the lowly taxpayer footing the bill for investigating allegations against her.

The same republican party Palin leads like a rabid sow helped America waste somewhere near $100 million to distract Bill Clinton from achieving a populace agenda.

Consummate hypocrite.

Annabelle Huynh   July 3rd, 2009 4:59 pm ET

Listening to Sarah Palin talk makes my ears bleed and my skull wanna crack.

Sharleen Reed   July 3rd, 2009 4:59 pm ET

Poor Ms Palin, suffering withdrawal pains from lack of constant media attention. It is so obviious where her priorities lie. The State of Alaska deserves much better and should be thankful she has finally shown them and the whole country her true motivations for the national spotlight.
It's way too early to start campaigning for next election. Whenever news of her appears on CNN , I just turn the channel.
Sorry, but no thanks Sarah.

Susan in Brooklyn   July 3rd, 2009 5:00 pm ET

Palin was elected to work during her term. Every elected official risks being a lame duck. Quitting early means she's a quitter and can't be relied on to do the job she promised to perform. Now that's what I call lame.

Kay   July 3rd, 2009 5:01 pm ET

How can any republicans take this quitter seriously. She babbled like she usually does – it is so hard to believe that anyone could possibly think she could be a viable candidate again – people need to clean their ears – she is not that bright. What a liability for the republicans. Can't she just go away for good now.

Paula V.   July 3rd, 2009 5:01 pm ET

Can Sarah Palin get through one TV appearance without criticizing someone?? a.k.a., cutting someone down to build herself up.

She must be completely delusional if she thinks the presidency is within her grasp. Really, the woman went to FIVE different colleges before she finally graduated. But, then again, her reasons for stepping down could have nothing to do with her bid for the White House in 2012...maybe she has that Governor-Adulterer Disease.

Kimberly   July 3rd, 2009 5:01 pm ET

Well at least we know her true character now. She's nothing but a quitter!! She would quit on our country too. We need someone who stand up for our country even through the tough times.

Mary Meyer   July 3rd, 2009 5:04 pm ET

Gov. Palin chose to make her announcement today because she knew she would be ONLY story.

Carol, California   July 3rd, 2009 5:06 pm ET

This is really wierd – there's got to be more to this story.

Sarah never makes any sense when she talks, so what else is new, but the Lt. Gov's speech was strange also. His voice was shakey and he seemed very nervous. There must be some iceberg- size scandle about to hit Alaska.

Rose from Muscoy, Calif   July 3rd, 2009 5:07 pm ET

I think that Sarah Palin is thinking about a seat in the White House or in the Senate? I would want to know what else have she not finish full term?

jamie rishaw   July 3rd, 2009 5:08 pm ET

Unfortunately for the nation, i suspect this isn't even close to the last time we'll hear from her.

This is clearly a martyresque move as part of a run for the white house.

The fact alone that she made point to say she's not playing politics / not playing games is a dead giveaway that any behavioral expert would call shenanigans on.

..sigh...

blochhead   July 3rd, 2009 5:09 pm ET

Best day ever

Sivan N   July 3rd, 2009 5:09 pm ET

What is she blabbing about???

jebuff   July 3rd, 2009 5:11 pm ET

This concern for economy is from the woman who spent how... how was it again... on a VP make-over wardrobe? Spin much? As a liberal Democrat, I'm so pleased that Mrs Palin will represent the ding-bat, down-home right. If this is the best the Republicans have to offer, well, let the fun begin.

Wendy   July 3rd, 2009 5:12 pm ET

So,Palin is stepping down. The job is hard and she steps down.Does she not know that the job of V.P and President are hard also.So will it come out that Bristol is pregnant again? or is Todd having an affair or maybe even the moralist herself is having an affair.Would any one ever votefor her in another election if she quits the job in politics that she does have.

Linda Mac   July 3rd, 2009 5:15 pm ET

regarding michael jackson: has anyone asked why Jackson's Doctor entered Jackson's bedroom in the first place?

lee   July 3rd, 2009 5:17 pm ET

Dumb. She's not smart enough for the presidency.

My statements are opinion unless factually proven.

Virginia citizen

Kimba   July 3rd, 2009 5:17 pm ET

Sounds to me like she isn't so much running away from something, but running for something. She certainly reached a "10" on the phony scale today!

rachel   July 3rd, 2009 5:20 pm ET

Is there something strange or missing? I still can't find the main reason why she step down.

Rebekah   July 3rd, 2009 5:20 pm ET

Since Sanford was the leader of the GOP govs, is it possible that Palin is one of the women he crossed the line with? That would be great!

Marjorie Stevens   July 3rd, 2009 5:45 pm ET

rachel is so right! She has not given a logical reason for stepping down and not fulfiling her term of election. She is jamming out!

Cindy   July 3rd, 2009 5:46 pm ET

Hmmm.....Pawlenty not running again in Minnesota.....Palin not running again in Alaska.....hmmmm.....wonder what they're thinkin'? Hmmmm.....

Michelle D . Fonthill. Ont   July 3rd, 2009 5:59 pm ET

If Sarah Palin was considering even running for the presidency in 2012 this will hurt her even more .She will have had to stay in office longer and she won't have enough expirence to have the job not that didn't din't have it before any way .

Christine Dimengo   July 3rd, 2009 6:22 pm ET

Who's up for a "fishing expedition" in Alaska? There's a big one with baited breathe waiting to be hooked.

A.M. Deist   July 3rd, 2009 6:25 pm ET

Hopefully whatever caused her to step down will be discovered in the near future. Hard to believe that she thinks this will help her chances for any other office in the future. Many of us still believe that she had a major part in why McCain didn't win the election.

Linda B., Ga.   July 3rd, 2009 6:25 pm ET

Good News for the State of Alaska.....she won't be missed! and to even think that she might consider running in 2012, Paaaaaaaaaalease.....LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!

Annie Kate   July 3rd, 2009 6:32 pm ET

One lame duck for another lame duck. She must have run out of issues she can understand. In 2012 I bet she will be back and she can point to this interim lull as the time she took to be with her family and rebuild those family values she treasures and take care of her baby son. I only hope that in her step-down she also steps down from trying to sabotage the environment in Alaska.

Benigna Marko   July 3rd, 2009 6:41 pm ET

Governor Palin has to do what is best for her. We should provide her some respect and support.

Joanne Pacicca   July 3rd, 2009 7:03 pm ET

I sincerely hope this is the last we hear, see or are informed in her regards. Forever!

Damien   July 3rd, 2009 7:06 pm ET

From my kitchen window in Australia, I can nearly see Sarah Palin..... Sheesh, what was her point in all of that spiel just now??...all I heard was "bla bla bla..."....

Danielle - Houston, TX   July 3rd, 2009 7:19 pm ET

Palin stepping down because she doesn't like working with the hand she has been delt doesn't signify a leader. The unablity to keep her commitment to Alaska is an indication that she should not make a bid for the office of President of the United States so she can only do the same thing to America when things don't go her way.

Montie / Alabama   July 3rd, 2009 7:56 pm ET

No one has talked about it but everyone must consider the possibility that the "oil industry" and proponents of reversing and eliminating the federal barriers to drilling for oil in Alaska may well be planning to pay Sarah Palin handsomely to become an "oil lobbyist" to help make that happen. She is already on record as being a supporting efforts to drill for oil in her native state. Whether or not 2012 plays into Palin's future (and I doubt she could get very far in a presidential campaign), me thinks this has much, much, much to do with money (lots and lots of money)...with plans to increase Palin's income and improve the financial status of her family. Can't blame her but she has likely shot herself (with a near fatal political outcome) by resigning prematurely her Governor's seat. Can you talk about the "lobbyist theory"???

Larry   July 3rd, 2009 8:04 pm ET

Only reason for this blog is to remind America how much we hate all white women that are not as smart as they think they are

Mari   July 3rd, 2009 8:05 pm ET

I think Palin's people took a poll, and found out that she would not be reelected. So she is making an excuse to exit before she fails.

IF Palin were a Democrat the family values crowd of the GOP would have crucified her for abandoning her newborn son last summer to seek higher political office!

Palin/Sanford 2012! Wink......... wink.

elaine   July 3rd, 2009 8:20 pm ET

Yeh!!! You democratic eleatist should pat yourselves on the back. I like Sarah Palin and her little sweet family. She is not pretentous or mean she really wants what is best for our country and she speaks better than Joe Bidden when he is not tipsy.
So how do you like your socialist president know that the jobless rate is at 9.5% with the white house having no plans to create any new jobs. Here you have a stimulus package given free and clear to Citi group who is giving big bonus's and pay raises to their employee's yet this is our money and this company feels no responsibility to create knew jobs for the American people.
I have never seen or lived through any thing like this in my 50yrs. While our president is partying up a storm in our white house.... Well I hope he gets his fill cause he will not be back in 2012.
And get over yourself if you think what Sarah Palin spent for dressing her family was high. How much did you tax payers pay Kenneth Star just to have some moron point his finger and say he didn't have relations with that young girl and at the time she was a girl her daughters friend what an immoral creep.

Linda Stevens   July 3rd, 2009 8:31 pm ET

I think Sarah Palin has probably been offered her own show on a conservative channel. She has a big audience of fans who would love to see her spar with liberals. She could be the next Rush, Bill O. or Glen Beck. A national platform, big book deals, influence, a bully pulpit ... I betcha' that's what's goin on!

Alice NYC   July 3rd, 2009 8:33 pm ET

What she up to? Dont have to watch reality shows or soaps, just watch the news.

Please more news about Korea, Iran, enough about MJ and forget Palin. PLEASEEEEEEEEEE!

bo   July 3rd, 2009 8:42 pm ET

If she does run for national office I hope she hires a good voice coach to work on that terrible inflection problem. It's very wierd. Like a little kid just learning to read who doesn't know where to raise and lower her voice for the story.

ranndino   July 3rd, 2009 8:43 pm ET

Can someone please translate what she said into comprehensible English?

It's amazing how some people think that she can be president. I wouldn't hire this babbling imbecile to run a laundromat.

Kathy Biechy   July 3rd, 2009 9:45 pm ET

I get dizzy when I hear Sarah Palin talk. She always and I mean always, talks in circles.Maybe she should be our president. She could really mess with our enemies' heads with her babbling.Geez.

Pamela   July 3rd, 2009 9:59 pm ET

Good Job Sarah!! Once again you are making bad decisions. If you think in 2012 the people are going to vote for someone who stepping down without a very good reason to the people of Alaska you really are STUPID!!!!! This should alarm the american people that Sarah Palin is all about Fame and Fortune. Who every said Sarah is all about family value ... yeah right ! This is the lady who tried to force marriage on her daugther, kept her small children out on a campaign trail when no other candidate did and she has the mentality to create division by the way she speaks to large crowds/ not great "orater."

charlotte schroeder   July 3rd, 2009 10:20 pm ET

Don't tell me we have to go back to someone who doesn't even read! It scares me to death. God save our country. Our problems are much greater than cute smiles and lookin' good swaggers...

Candi   July 3rd, 2009 10:23 pm ET

I didn't vote for her but I honestly respect her for stepping down. People treated her so bad for far so long. I agree with her. She is still not a favorite but I still agree with her and her stepping down.

Bill   July 3rd, 2009 11:47 pm ET

hmmm...fast foward a few years...wonder about the closing months of a Palin Presidency...a time to quit?

lisa   July 3rd, 2009 11:50 pm ET

It is so obvious that Sarah Palin makes people like Anderson Cooper and Joy Behar uncomfortable...but why? I guess we will find out.
I just know that I couldn't run a state while being legally persecuted.
I found it hard to teach third grade while going to court just to get child support!

huckfinn28   July 4th, 2009 12:00 am ET

This message was so very clear, do not be a "dead fish" and "go with the flow" and speak out against all of this wasteful spending by the government, you do not need a title such as Governor to have a say. Americans get off your buts and speak out! Shows like AC360 need "experts" to read between the lines, get real! AC, she explained everything. Your conspiracy theorists think their is always something between the lines when it is not.

john, NY   July 4th, 2009 12:26 am ET

Does Sarah Palin actually want us to think and believe she stepped down fro the good of Alaska and then would like us to vote for a quitter in 2012? I hope I am not as dumb as she thinks I am.

eric   July 4th, 2009 1:11 am ET

the speech sounded like a 13-14 year old gave it and there was no real message except that she is leaving

sue   July 4th, 2009 1:14 am ET

Sarah Palin is not a rich woman. I think the first few statements were telling why she was quitting. The mounting lawyer fees are burying her and her family in steep debt.

sheldon   July 4th, 2009 1:20 am ET

I knew it wouldn't be long before america would see the real Palin, I wonder how her few supports she had view her now.

Michael   July 4th, 2009 1:30 am ET

From the comments entered to date, it seems the only person who's taking this nutjob seriously is a 14-year old (who's up past his bedtime). How anyone can rationalize or understand her presence on the national stage is beyond me.

I say it's time to celebrate. I'm glad the circus is over – at least for the weekend!!!

gia   July 4th, 2009 1:31 am ET

Sarah, your not a door mat. Yes, if you were a man, 95% of what you & your family endured would have never happened. The situation I see this country going in is making me sad I was born here.....There is nothing you can do or may do that will not be accepted or considered good. You are the one that gets to be cruicifed this time and I am sorry that you and your family must go through this. Cut your losses and move on. Thanks for the ride, your a good woman and a GREAT American.

James Dylan   July 4th, 2009 2:02 am ET

I have been amazed by the continual personnal ridcule of Palin and her family. I can't recall a single instance where someone actually had something negative to say about the job she has done while in office. Perhaps she has just come to the same conclusion Machiavelli reached when he wrote "government is of very slight importance, although semi-educated people think otherwise." Is this not understood by simply saying "we the people" or knowing that when reading ancient chinese texts on politics that WE can be transposed when the word KING is present. The King always forms the goverment and quite simply the King is a moron.

Theresa, Upland.   July 4th, 2009 2:05 am ET

This could be a great opportunity for our darling Sarah Palin to graduate from Law School like many of the colleques she would rival with in 2016, and for her hubby to go back and get more educated as well, to the level befitting a husband of a Governor.
As far as Ms. Paling being Republican's best, I do not know about that. Let's remember our very capable Huckabe(sp?), and the current RNC chairman, Michael 'Steel! . Finally, I think her choice for VP candidate was briliant on the part of McCain at the time and successfully depicted her potential in politics and how her moral values are representative of those of traditional Republicans.

lord rough   July 4th, 2009 2:10 am ET

i think she has a good point, and reason to resign, however, i think her analogy was very weak....

Theresa, Upland.   July 4th, 2009 2:22 am ET

(Lol) Jebuff-like Sarah Palin said, most of the make over VP wardrobe was rented and had to be returned. She did not waste any money on that! Please let us get our facts straight!!
As far as a 17 year old's decision to get pregnant is concerned also, there's very little any parent can do about that-especially in America's "freedom" cultural setting. If infact it was "a mistake' and not a decision for the 17 year old, then it would have been a lesson to Ms. Palin by God saying, "Physicians heal thyselves!"

Pascal   July 4th, 2009 2:26 am ET

I am really confused by Sarah's basketball analogy. Yes, a point guard does know when to pass the ball, but they usually don't pass the ball and then leave the game. I think it is absolutely scary that some people think she should run for president .

Ellen   July 4th, 2009 2:49 am ET

It sounds like she's a little medicated. I'm not from Alaska, so I don't understand her presence as its governor, but what on earth is she talking about? 9 and a half minutes of rambling on about "not wasting money?" What will she be "fighting for?" And from where?

RLWellman   July 5th, 2009 8:39 am ET

I hear the only person with less experience to be president than Sarah Palin is Barrack Hussein Obama!

leave comment (Kay)   July 5th, 2009 6:50 pm ET

Anderson, I knew you wouldn't post my original comment about you & Sarah Palin. You only care to post those comments that jive with your thoughts and desires. I'm a democrat, too. But, the motives of this blog are very obviously biased. You need to work on this blog's balance and post comments that may be a little hard for you to swallow as well. It's lame and boring to see only the thoughts/comments of one side.
