Why did Sarah Palin resign. It's simple. Think of all the money she is going to make on the lecture circuit. Doesn't matter that she paraded her unwed pregnant daughter all over the country, and now resents that she has become the object of ridicule, or that she has violated her oath as govenor. Money talks.

Well my guess is that she hitting premenopause, realizing her special needs child really needs her, at her word wants to get her family out of the caustic spotlight, knows now is the time to write that book or never to make some real money.
She took the state office and tried to run the state from her home ran into some just criticism, got pulled into the national spotlight drank in all the attention and now that uphill climb to the 2012 nomination must look pretty shaky.

Or she is truly delusional- narcisstic and will be back...!

i'm probably not the one to judge (specially since i can only follow american politics over the few podcast i get here in switzerland) - but that was a very bizzare speech of sarah palin and seemed to be even less prepared than her ealier statements ... for me it seems almost like she wants to be more a comedian than a politician ... maybe she feels like tina fey (?) is the better palin than herself ?

This just reeks of strategy. I take this sudden announcement two ways: 1. as an extension of the republican (more specifically, Palin's) presidential campaign or 2. An act of defiance against the new administration--neither of which 'honorable.'

Not to mention that Pailn, as a politician, is wholly insubstantial. This announcement is just like her politics: vague, based off -isms, and ruled by 'ethics.' In her world, everything is right and just. Palin can do no wrong. I feel bad for her family but what politician hasn't faced negative press? I don't see the need for exceptionalism.

I'm annoyed. I thought we'd see the end of her after this election. A bumper sticker I saw earlier this year sums it all : "America's women have not waited 232 years for sarah plain."

I hope her book signings, talk show appearances, and other ventures provide her family with the finances they need. Oh, by the way, the Republican party "divorce" papers should be posting right about ... now! I'm quite sure they're elated the Palin fiasco is over!

Palin was a good Governor and had many accomplishments though the Libs and Tom Foreman don't want to admit it. Have you libs had enough? There were 15 ridiculous ethics charges brought against her by the Libs and all 15 were proven invalid. Leaving the remote state of Alaska to run for president would make sense. Most other politicians including some Senators (Obama, Clinton) dropped their concerns for their state to run for office. I would be happy to consider her as a role model over the likes of Clinton and her political secrets or Palosi and her questionable dealings.

She because she's not seeking reelection, it's better to step down now? That makes absolutely no sense. "Lame duck" terms are when politicans can get their own agendas accomplished without having to cater to the swing votes to get elected.

I could see that believe that she truly believes that this is the best way to prepare for 2012, but leaving mid-term after only 3 years of experience will only lessen her chances even more.

A higher calling? Is she going to be a T.V. evangelist or what? Could you imagine her as VP??? "John, I quit, you'll need to find someone to replace me." Quitter!
I can't imagine her doing anything good for the US. She justs needs to stay in Alaska. Do what ever she wants up there while we in the lower 48 can feel safe knowing she's a country away.

Strangely, many of Palin's beliefs are legitimate! Small government, conservative rebuilding, and emphasis on family demands-all legitimate and important, time-consuming endeavors. Regardless of the publicity and politic, she is only one woman trying to balance a complex life.

Very patriotic of her to quit her job as an elected official of her beloved Alaska on the eve of the most celebrated of American holidays. I think she wanted to draw some of the attention away from the coverage of Michael Jackson. Well she did... for about 30 seconds! Nice try Miss Patriotic Alaska runner up

Excuse me, but didn't Obama quit his senate job, to run for POTUS? and please stop with all the HATe it is time to get past this. Obama is in charge now, and he is the one you all should be watching and remarking about. And grace what did the message that Obama sent by not finishing his Senate Post say to the millions of AA children? that you start one job, and not finish it because someone thinks you might do a better job somewhere else? how about if everybody would finish the first position they were elected to before they are able to start a run for another job? Maybe, just maybe she got tired of all the crap she got from the Democrats, and The News Media, I won't mention any stations, because I unlike others here am past all that.

The constant negative comments from the media and bloggers is a clear indication of how truely afraid you are of her. Just imagine how America would be so much better off had she and McCain been elected. Let see, America would have not spent trillions of dollars that we did not have, the government would not be running car business or banking for that matter. We would have had a strong stand on Iran, unlike the wimpy reaction that Obama had. Fear and hate that is all you have to say.

Obama is the true fraud, and there is only so much that the media and obamamaniacs can say and do before the true Obama is revealed for his lack of experience and inability.

Sarah Palin needs to be on medication. She has some kind of personality disorder. She says things that it is so ridiculous,it doesn't make sense. It is so clear that she is lying about small things that doesn't even to be lied about. She was a lousey governor and she will be a lousey president. Not very bright...I love watching her,it is like watching a train wreck. Margaret

So what’s next for Palin?…The Real housewives of Alaska? Shes perfect for that…drama, drama, drama!

@Maria, San Juan, Puerto Rico

HAHAHAHAHAHA SO TRUE!

In the end, ethics have nothing to do with it. This article is perfect; 'Cirque de Sarah announces end of the Alaska '09 tour'. Couldn't have put it better myself. But know, I think she plans to remain a celebrity until 2012 where she shall whip out her plans to rule the world.

While a presidential or senate run I believe are inevitable for the pinhead princess from Alaska, the immediate future is surely about money (both personal and fund raising for political ambition). It will be much easier to keep her face in the limelight and her pockets full cash (and clothes, and make up...) without being restricted like a child being timed out to the nether regions of Alaska.

Would it be asking to much to just believe what she said? It's cost Alaska over 2 million and her family over half a million in legal fees just defending her good name and reputation. She never imagined that would be what she would be spending her time and the state's money on as governor. Her family unanimously agreed with her that they would all be much better off if she left early. End of story. You know some people actually do things from pretty good motives...
