Anderson:please discuss the Michael Jackson legacy. His past doesn't matter his musical contribution and his love of others does. My heart is saddened because we have lost greatness.May the wings of the angels wrap around Michaels children and family and protect them and give them peace. The Heavens are now receiving this wonder person and he is safe in the arms of the Lord.

Isabel, Brazil   June 26th, 2009 10:00 pm ET

Good evening, Anderson, friends, David (Indiana), 360 team!

How many beautiful tributes today to Michael Jackson!
And how many questions about his death. And there could be different with Michael Jackson.

Heather - Spokane, WA   June 26th, 2009 10:01 pm ET

Evening Anderson and everyone. Everything about Michael is spilling out all over now

Linda   June 26th, 2009 10:02 pm ET

I agree with Charlotte, Az

We will be hearing plenty of the negative stuff in the weeks to come, can't we focus on Michael the Singer/Performer/Entertainer.

Deborah   June 26th, 2009 10:03 pm ET

So much is being said about Michael Jackson's use of prescirption drugs such as oxycontin-don't the HIPA laws apply to celebrities as well as regular people? I personally witnessed over prescribed use of narcotics to patients for pain in a local Marin County practice and unfortunately these enablers were not dealing exclusively with Hollywood celebrities they were enabling those who innocently were seeking treatment for pain (not always narcotics) and became addicted so quickly to oxycontin only to minimize the physicians need to spend time and evaluate the patients true problem.

Mike, Syracuse, NY   June 26th, 2009 10:03 pm ET

Hello Anderson. Report it all, good and bad. MJ was a great performer, but a very flawed person.

Isabel, Brazil   June 26th, 2009 10:03 pm ET

The cardiologist doctor should know many things, but must have been a terrible moment for him

Sharon Hastings   June 26th, 2009 10:03 pm ET

Hello Anderson, team, all bloggers. More sad news about Michael but I guess we don't really know yet. Lots of speculation. I have enjoyed all of his music today on TV, radio as I was driving. A wonderful talent gone too soon. Thank you CNN for your good coverage.

Arthur Z Przebinda, MD   June 26th, 2009 10:04 pm ET

If we are going to address the circumstance fo Jackson's death, I think the following should be addressed:

Deepak Chopra said on one of the earlier shows that Jackson had SLE (Lupus). This disorder can be accompanied by vitiligo – which Jackson had.

SLE also affects the heart, lungs, brain and disrupts the clotting system. If he had Lupus, it could have played a role in his death.
Finally, because SLE affects the brain it has been known to cause neurobehavioral disturbances. This can also come about from medications like steroids used to treat the disorder.

How far did Jackon's history of SLE go and could it (or its treatment) have contributed to his erratic behavior?

Howard Storey   June 26th, 2009 10:04 pm ET

Anderson,

Can you explain why the doctor was doing CPR on Michael while he was on a bed. As you know everytime the doctor did chest compressions he was pushing Michael's body down. Thus not getting the proper compression to the heart area wher it was needed.

Gloria, Brooklyn, NY   June 26th, 2009 10:05 pm ET

Hello Everyone!

Mike, Syracuse, NY   June 26th, 2009 10:05 pm ET

It would seem a doctor would know how to do CPR. How long did it take to call 911? I heard one report that it was 20 minutes.

Diane TN   June 26th, 2009 10:05 pm ET

Hello Anderson, Erica, Sanjay, and fellow bloggers. He is my generation, my era, and a great big part of my life. Michael was 6 yrs my senior, and I would like to say my favorite J5 & MJ song is BEN. How many people remember that song? Any how have a good chat tonight.

rose from calif   June 26th, 2009 10:05 pm ET

Hi Anderson,

Sorry, to hear that mix medications might have killed him. Will the doctor be reponseable for his death?

Dara   June 26th, 2009 10:06 pm ET

I am a pharmacist, and I would NEVER fill a narcotic presciption without getting the name and license and all information from the patient. Were these prescrptions even in Michael's name? Deepak Chopra was spot on. How dare these physicians enable him like this. The last demerol injection was a lethal dose, and this doctor should be arrested for murdering him. This whole thing is terrible, and I am still so saddened, and angry at the same time.

Adriana RM Marietta,Ga   June 26th, 2009 10:06 pm ET

Hello guys.

Anthonia1992-California   June 26th, 2009 10:06 pm ET

Hey Everyone!

Does it literally take a person to die for people to realize such great talent that person had when they were still living? Its kind of weird seeing people grieving for Michael, when just a couple of years ago he was criticized for having an excessive amount of plastic surgery done to his face...!

Sandy in Utah   June 26th, 2009 10:06 pm ET

Why did Michael Jackson have a cardiologist as his personal physician if there wasn't anything wrong with his heart?

Isabel, Brazil   June 26th, 2009 10:07 pm ET

There are some answers that should be saved. This answers won't change the sorrow and commotion the fans.

Lori from IL   June 26th, 2009 10:07 pm ET

Good evening Anderson, Team 360 and Fellow Bloggers –

Anderson - I really enjoyed the 2 hours on Michael Jackson last night - looking forward to you "digging deeper" tonight.

David, Indiana   June 26th, 2009 10:07 pm ET

Evening Anderson, Erica, Isabel, everyone. I just want to send my thoughts and prayers to Michael Jackson's family again.

Well there are a lot of questions about possible prescription addiciton that need to be looked into and questions about the 911 response and call. People can be panicked in an emergency as Ted Rowland points out.

Cynthia, NC   June 26th, 2009 10:08 pm ET

Good evening everyone. I have feared since the news broke Thursday of Michael being rushed to the hospital, that the story would end with him taking a lethal combination of prescription drugs that took his life.

MJ   June 26th, 2009 10:08 pm ET

Michael Jackson’s death is a tragedy and his life taken away so suddenly terribly sad. I applaud Deepak Chopra for having the honesty, integrity and courage to discuss the seemingly very unpopular aspect of what apparently seems to have ultimately led to Michael’s early demise. I do believe it is so imperative to bring to light just how horrific the abuse of narcotic pain medication can be. Those getting so upset about not wanting to talk about or attach this to him reminds me of the very enablers you always hear about in a substance abusers life. Their ‘protection’ of the abuser is never in their best interest…just look at the end result in this instance. I’m all for celebrating the man’s talent and genius but not for denying the very reasons that contributed to his early death.

Martina Ilstad Germany   June 26th, 2009 10:08 pm ET

I am so sorry,to realize that this star was the really lonleyest man on earth! What a sad life,he had to live?

Heather - Spokane, WA   June 26th, 2009 10:09 pm ET

Its hard not to think that prescription drugs had something to do with his death because of his history with abuse, then the coroner reporting that he sent out samples to be further tested and then reading Lisa Marie Presley's message about her conversation with Michael about her father's death from drug use and Michael saying that eh was going to die like her father. I think we may know what caused the cardiac arrest

Milton Smith   June 26th, 2009 10:09 pm ET

M jackson had no idea a the power behind the coming of such stuff. All of a sudden it came and it hit him. Too bad he was not ready. Tragic absolutly tragic. Absolutly.

rose from calif   June 26th, 2009 10:09 pm ET

Here in California we need to review all doctors if doctors are not doing the right things when it comes to giving mix medications more then one at a time to a patient.

mecca   June 26th, 2009 10:10 pm ET

I hope the world can understand that Michael embodied the essence that we all are the same, no matter what is shown on the outside its the inside what counts and that will never change, we all must understand that in order to understand what can push a person to live in a drug induced world in order to escape the drama that fame weights on celebrity, marilyn, elvis, anna, heath, and now michael, how many more

rose from calif   June 26th, 2009 10:10 pm ET

Why did the doctor take off without his car?

janet   June 26th, 2009 10:11 pm ET

I agree with dr. chopra if people talked and acted upon this information before, MJ would still be here, instead of pretending it wasn't happening.something should be done. It is not a problem just with famous people.

Melanie   June 26th, 2009 10:11 pm ET

From a 50 year old elementary school teacher who grew up with Michael Jackson's music and considers it part of her life's soundtrack, I say this.......Well done Michael. It's recess....go play now.

Joseph   June 26th, 2009 10:11 pm ET

Michael Jackson was a revolutionary when it came to how music videos were made. He single handedly changed music and the way we enjoy it.

Vickie   June 26th, 2009 10:11 pm ET

911 caller seemed way too calm to me. ?? I think Mike had been down for a while before 911 was ever called. Could that possibility have been ruled out via autopsy?

Tan   June 26th, 2009 10:11 pm ET

No one can absolutely grasp the thought that we will never see or hear Michael again in person. I feel as though I have lost my big brother. This is how deeply I am hurt behind his death. I have loved the Jacksons since the 60's and has always supported Michael and prayed for him. I often looked into his eyes and saw loneliness during his interviews and I wished that I could have been his friend. My heart goes out to his family, friends and fans. I am still waiting for someone to say that it was a Michael Jackson impersonator who died. My heart is truly broken and I cannot stop crying with this lost and I am realy saddened and speechless. When he sang as a little boy I felt as though he was singing to me. I will love him forever and pray that everyone respect his family and stop the negative reports. He was and will always be known as a Giant in the Music industry and for his loving heart. Rest Michael in the bosom of Jesus Christ where no one can accuse you anymore.

gino   June 26th, 2009 10:12 pm ET

where's the doctor who was at the M.J. house when he pasted.

Marybeth Seeback   June 26th, 2009 10:12 pm ET

Has anyone heard from Janet Jackson? Where is she and her comments?

Hamdan Adnan Al Talyani   June 26th, 2009 10:12 pm ET

I think actually Michael was killed with poisoned food or something like that or maybe some drugs ..

RIP From Dubai , United Arab Emirates .

Pauline   June 26th, 2009 10:12 pm ET

It was so sudden. I thought it was a joke. My friends text me. I didn't believe it until I found the news myself. It felt terrible. It felt terrible to everyone. It was so awful. I cried watching the news. And the news was everywhere. It was just so...I was speechless. My God.

Gamelle Saleh   June 26th, 2009 10:12 pm ET

I am deeply saddened and in shock michael has died so sudden all my blessings and prayers are with his family and children and may the angels of god meet him at the gates of heaven Liverpool,uk

Angelica   June 26th, 2009 10:12 pm ET

Michael Jackson was a good singer and he will be missed .

Bob   June 26th, 2009 10:12 pm ET

If physicians like Chopra and Gupta know so much about Hollywood doctors then why dont the FBI instigate them and save the celebrities from dying?

Antonio   June 26th, 2009 10:12 pm ET

I am stunned to hear that a Doctor was in the room with Michael after he was found unconcious and did not know that Michael needed to be placed on a hard flat surface to administer CPR, as the 911 operator instructed them to do so.

I am sick of these Hollywood Doc getting away with over precribing meds to Celebs, who obviously need mental and/or spiritual help

jessica   June 26th, 2009 10:12 pm ET

What a tradegy that doctors are doing this in the name of medicine...how sad that Michael actually needed these drugs to begin with...

Kartik Saraf   June 26th, 2009 10:12 pm ET

personally, i feel that it is more important that we celebrate the legacy of Michael Jackson rather than his death and controversy. SUre, he may have done some crazy things, but we have to remember what he did for the music industry and how he changed the lives of many people. Let's not worry much about his death and more about his crazy yet wonderful life.

Marj   June 26th, 2009 10:12 pm ET

Michael...singing at the foot of the throne now...finding peace at last...not ours to judge.

Brian   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

MJ was surrounded by wolves in sheeps clothing. So many people riding on his cottails. So many people wanting to profit from his fame. Unfortunetly even Doctor's greed that killed him in the end!

Carlos   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

Rest in peace The King of Pop.

Wayne Bryant   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

Greetings,

Deepak C. keeps talking about Doctors in LA enabling celebrities with drugs. Isn't there a governing board where this behaviior can be reported? It seems like if he really wanted to be proactive about this he would have reported it to the proper authorities. As it is it comes off as a little self-serving.

Maurice   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

I so Agree with Deborah

So much is being said about Michael Jackson’s use of prescirption drugs such as oxycontin-don’t the HIPA laws apply to celebrities as well as regular people

Sandy in Utah   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

Why was Michael's personal physician a cardiologist if there was nothing supposedly wrong with his heart? This was the doctor that was with him at his home giving him CPR. Usually you don't have a cardiologist unless you have heart problems.

Darren Rush   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

I cannot believe this tragedy. He has been my idol since I was 5. I did impersonations of him at every school I was at.

Isabel, Brazil   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

@ David, Indiana
Yes .. independent of what has happened, people who were present experienced desperate moments

jon   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

i think it's really stupid they make us wait for the corner to speak for hours we wait and he comes out to tell us they need more testing why did we wait all that time to hear crap, thank you los angles you've always been the smart ones

Karen   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

If Michael's doctor is to blame for enabling him, he better watch his back!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Michael you are out of pain now...love always...

Barbara Stonnell   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

Doctors who are legalized drug pushers are not only in California and it is not only now. When I was married in the early 70's, my husband, who was a professional, was an addict and he confessed to me he never got one drug on the street. All the drugs he took he got from doctors in New York/Queens.

So it has been going on for years and all over the country!

celeste leblanc   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

hi my name is celeste leblanc and i just wanted to say that i think its a shame that a wonderful person like micheal jackson and his family have to go thru this..my prays and hopes go out to his family and children..

rose from calif   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

We really didn't get the whole story about what really happened to Michael Jackson. I don't believe that any of his friends and families didn't know that he needed help?

Will   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

Could a personal defibrillator have increased the chances of Michael Jackson surviving his arythmia?

Niccky   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

Can you play the amplified version of the doctor doing CPR in the backround? Thanks

Anthonia1992-California   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

@Rose-I just think that means someone was guilty for MJ's death if you ask me...!

amanda   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

I Totally agree with what Usher said, we should be embrasing the life that he lived and celebrate all of his accomplishments. I think it is far too soon to be guessing what he was doing. This is very disrespectful to the family. We love you Micheal and will always remember you as an amazing loving person. <3

Noel D.   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

Mr. Jackson is a national icon, a human being with flaws but inspite of these, managed to get folks of all colors to unify for a cause.

elizabeth i   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

Thank-you for your frank honesty Dr. Chopra. None of this revelation takes away the greatness of Micheal Jackson. All too often we must lose someone to this type of tragedy in order to grow our understanding of what is at stake with the use of narcotic medication. RIP Micheal– forever loves and appreciated for his creative contributions.

Heather - Spokane, WA   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

@Martina, They say its lonely when you are on top of the world

Len Wilson   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

It amazes me that people are still invested in covering up his prescription drug use. It has been clear to any reasonable eye, that he has been over medicated for YEARS.

Melissa Cali   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

Nobody really knows what drugs he took...The reality of it is he probably was on some type of medication. But should all the focus be on that. What about Michael Jackson as an artist. Or someone who spent so much money on charities to help people less fortunate then himself. I think his death is a tragedy and the world will never be quite the same without him!.

John Jenkins   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

As with most celebrities, Michael jackson got to big to help. He would not listen to anyone. Would not take advice. Subjected himself to multiple unnecessary surgeries. Lived on a different time schedule so he asked and received whatever drugs he wanted. When an individual will not listen to advice they are done.

Deb in SoCal   June 26th, 2009 10:13 pm ET

I totally agree with Drs. Pinsky and Gupta. There are M.D.'s out there that are willing to give powerful people whatever they want without true regard for the Hippocratic Oath. Shame on them! If that cardiologist wanted to help MJ, why didn't he give him a shot of Narcan?

Jenn   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

While they were two very different people, the similarities between the demise of Michael Jackson and Anna Nicole Smith are huge. Both were overmedicated and taken advantage of by vultures.

Anji   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

The facts appear to be pointing towards malpractice.

Patricia   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

As hard iit is to hear the truth about the prescription drugs, it is important for us to look very close at this. Deepak is trying to say this.

Chastina   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

I just don't understand how someone can be a doctor and does not know the proper way to do CPR. I just don't understand...what happened between those hours. I hear that someone said he took his medicine at 11:30, and then he was going to the hospital an hour later...a whole hour...what took so long?

Debbie   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

Thank you for addressing the 911 call on Mr. Jackson with the fact that he was ON the bed while his Dr. was performing CPR.....makes me wonder what credentials this Dr. has????

jessica Southbury CT   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

He truly was the King of POP!!

Toni Proiette   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

I am very saddened by the death of Michael Jackson. I would like to know if there was a defibulator at his home and if not why not. His doctor is a cardiologist. Could it have saved his life?

Wendy Ontario, Canada   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

It was reported by another source that he was dead when paramedics arrived, that they wanted to call the coroner but his Doctor wouldn't allow it. If this is true it appears the Doctor was concerned for himself?

Robin   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

I dont know this man personal but my heart is broken. He left this world to soon it was his time. He need help and there was no one there to give it to him. I pray that he had made peace with his seld and the Lord.

Kemi Omololu-Olunloyo (Toronto, Canada)   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

Anderson, I am a Health Reporter and Pharmacist and lived in the US for 29 years. I walked in the Pharmacy this morning in tears singing..."Why Why? Tell em that it's human nature, why why does it do me that way." He was in PAIN!!!! Why "daily Demerol though?" I have practiced this profession for 21 years and Journalism 13. Last nite, I was doing TV health reports warning doctors the way they prescribe to these celebrities. It need to STOP! Heath Ledger, MJ, Anna Nicole Smith, Elvis, Marilyn Monroe and more....Stop giving these RX drugs bad PR. They cause dangerous interactions when they collide especially at high doses. Join me at Twitterdotcomslashhealthreports

Khurram Agha   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

If they find out he died because of legal drugs .. will there be any legal action taken ? or this chapter will just be closed ?

Jamie   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

My mother also died last year from prescription medications that were prescribed by multiple doctors, and she was not a celebrity. This is a HUGE problem in the U.S. and the FDA needs to get involved by putting real regulations on prescription medications.

charles otoo Ghana   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

Hi Anderson.

You need to fined out what actually went wrong.

I was sadden the whole of last night and today , we need to know the truth.

wanda   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

How can these Doctors perscribe these types of medication and not know what the outcome will be. They are doctors for heaven sake.
Why are these doctors not regulated about how much medication they can give anyone person. These doctors need to held accountable

Luana   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

Michael surpassed every imaginable barrier, racial, ethnic, gender, linguistic... you name it... Michael crossed it. He was the music of multiple generations, and perhaps the most influential artist of our time.

Melissa   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

My thoughts and prayers are with the Jackson family. I can not believe that Michael Jackson has passed away I an very saddened by this news. He was a brillant performer. He will be missed by all. May God be with his family at their time of need,

Meghan   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

I would like Dr. Gupta to comment on the role that cardiomyopathy related to lupus might have played in MJs death. Admittedly a rare complication of the disease, but could it have been a potential?

AmandaJ   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

If the doctor was indeed a doctor he should have known that he could not complete CPR on a bed my thought is that he should have called the ambulance right away as soon as Micheal fell unconscience even though he was or is a so called doctor it makes no sense if you were really and truly trying to save this young mans life whhy take the actions you did and not proper protocol and why flee and no one knows where you are and where you can be reached this was indeed what it seems to me a homicide. You called at 12:21 you should have called early what could you be thinking what was going through his mind at the tim because it could not have been saving Micheal.

Obed Louis, Toronto ON   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

My thoughts and prayers are with Michael and his family. Michael is still alive in millions and millions of lives.

May God bless your soul, Michael.

Bobby   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

I am saddned by the lost of Michael Jackson, Ive watched him growing up. He was an icon for our generation and the world. He will be truly missed and my prayers go out to his family and kids. And I hope that the media would stop talking bout his downfalls at this time and let his family , friends, and fans grieve at this time. MJ postive things he has done in his life heavliy out wiegh the bad,

Danyell Goods   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

I will miss u Michael, I hope they make a movie of ur life, i will see it over and over. RIP

Charlene Pellarin   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

How competent is Michael's doctor? Anyone with medical knowlege knows you have to perform CPR on a hard surface. From the 911 tapes sounds like the doctor was performing CPR on a bed.

Jeannie Kennedy   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

Why did this Doctor not have the drug narcon, and administer it to Michael at the first sign of respiratory distress?

kelly murphy msn rnp   June 26th, 2009 10:14 pm ET

Why did MJ's MD not have narcan an opioid antidote on hand to reverse the effects of narcotics? Also Demerol (meperidine)is rarely used anymore related to metabolite build up.

Mitch (Auckland New Zealand)   June 26th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

Michael's doctor should have tried harder... it's just not right!! MJ RIP

Renate Pacheco   June 26th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

I definitely agree with Depak Chopra. As a registered nurse at a large trauma center hospital, I have seen first hand the amount of narcotics patients are on. An unbelievable amount. It is just not happening in Hollywood, it is country wide. A patient just has to ask, and a doctor will write a presciption. Not just for pain meds, but a patient may be on anti anxiety, anti depressives, sleep meds and pain medications all at the same time. It really is a tragedy what is happening in this country. A pill for everything.

Joanne Mott, Ontario, Canada   June 26th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

Hi Anderson,

I am in shock, and just want to know why? If he had chest pains why did the doctor not call 911 at that moment. The world just lost The King of Pop, its time to Celebrate him and Honour him. I really think he should be laying in state, why has the President not offered this to the family? I grew up listening to Micheal Jackson and he will be missed forever. Rest in Piece Michael, and my prayers are with his family and children.

brandi   June 26th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

I am so sad, my heart is broken over this unexpected news. Michael was a huge icon that effected 5 generations. He achieved major success no one else will ever achieve, he was one of a kind, Please talk about how great he was and focus on his huge success.

Brent in Canada   June 26th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

Does anyone know who the caller was on the 911 call??????
How did he end up at the house with the doctor????

Oshika Box   June 26th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

I will always remember Micheal's Thriller Album. My brother would play thriller to make me go to sleep cause i was so scared of that intro..I will continue to be a huge fan of his until my time comes.

Joseph   June 26th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

I've been a Michael Jackson fan since I can remember. His death has affected me so tremendously. It feels like a friend, a family member, has died. He was a part of my life for 26 years and I will always love and cherish the many wonderful memories of the man and his music. Just like James Brown, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Marvin Gaye... there will NEVER be another Michael Jackson. RIP Michael... We love you!

Pete   June 26th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

Wouldn't be nicer for both Michael and ourselves if we focus on the positives of Michael at this time. After all let us remember we haven't even laid him to rest and his family along with us all is grieving.

candy   June 26th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

Rest in peace Micheal Jackson. Let this legend rest in peace. The media should pipe down about the drug addiction and the molestation. let his children greive and his family.

deb   June 26th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

Such a huge loss....I am just waiting for the stories that he faked his death to beat the debt-or could not handle the demands of performance. Let us not forget his death overshadowed Farrah fight.

Let his music live

M.J. definitely made a change in the world, he will be missed by all, all around the world.

Ellis from Tampa   June 26th, 2009 10:15 pm ET

If there was a licensed Doctor there with Micheal, why didn't he respond to this situation expediently. I'm sure if he wouldn't have panicked and have been more careful, I'm sure there would have been some more hope and he would still be with us... We love you Micheal, you were and always will be number one.

linda   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

If the doctor was at the house why did they have to call911 for help. I thought all doctors knew what to do in this situation You could hear him in the background. Also why didnt he sign the death certificate instead of the Medical examiner.

Raymond Willis   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Michael was the best entertainer ever to live on this planet, It was an honor for me to listen to his music through all my life. I just wish, that I had the opportunity to see him in concert one more time in my life time.

Tanjia   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Michael Jackson's death is tragic. I know that all of the speculation and myths are great for news but please be respectful and remember that this man, this Icon was a Father, Son, Brother and Friend to many whom this speculation is hurting. Not one news story is focusing on his legacy or all of his Humanitarian efforts but instead want to highlight his financial problems and make slanderous remarks regarding alleged drug usage. Stop it and focus on how you would want someone to remember you. I am hoping your response would be with dignity and respect.

gil   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Im just wondering why a certified doctor was giving cpr to someone on a bed, when in a community cpr class that is the first thing you learn not to do.

Toni   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

MJ was an amazing icon to this whole world. Everyone has flaws and no one seemed to care about his until NOW when it is too late! Let's let him R.I.P!!! He will be missed

Barbara Drawe   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

I lost my 20 year old son to a Rx overdose Zanax and Fentayl. I know first hand the danger of these drugs. Doctors gave these drug to my son for hip pain from a hip replacement and he became hooked. It is very hard to get off these drug. Maybe with this tradegy more regulation will be put on these doctors. And they will spop being drug pushers.

Anne D   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Knowing what other physicians or meds a patient is on is nearly impossible if patient pays cash. If patient always submits insurance name for medical and pharmacy, it can be tracked.

allen   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Wouldnt a cardiologist know better than to do CPR on a bed? Im just asking....

Alanna Lopez   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Hello Anderson,

I am currently watching the Mystery behind Michael Jackson's death along with my eight year old. She says" Mom why can't the world celebrate Michael Jackson? It just seems like they are focusing on the bad about Michael." What could I say, to my eight year old – that everyone mourns differently.

Our thoughts and Prayers goes out to his FAMILY.

Tiffany Davis   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Am deeply saddened by the loss of a musical legend. I really hope that Michael gets the peace that he never had living. May he rest in peace he will be missed a greal deal.

Craig - Amsterdam NY   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

This is a legal question: What can happen if in fact he was Dr. Shopping and the doctor's over medicated him?
Does either doctor on your panel know if the pain meds were administered by a doctor personally?

maureen chevalier   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

I was so obvious that Michael Jackson was on drugs and surely this will be a contributing factor to his death. It is so sad that this problem is so common–but it is hard to intervene with an addict when they don't want help

Louise Topfer   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Kudos to Deepak Chopra for saying what everyone in Hollywood is so afraid of saying, and shame on these Drs. who feed narcotics to celebrities in their quest to attach themselves to the 'Stars'.

Lets support Dr. Chopra and not punish him for speaking out and let's deal with these drug pushing doctors!

Thriller – the all time best video on mtv. Yet another break through for the legendary icon of Michael Jackson to leave behind. Thank you Michael for all your gifts, He was an amazing entertainer.. and set the bar high, noone will ever top his brillance.

Natalee   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Hi Anderson,
i work in the medical field but i'm not a doctor, i know that a patient should not take 2 narcotics together at once, and most narcs are suppose to b administered every 4-6 hrs. these docs should have their lisence taken away for enabling their patient habits, and instead refer them to rehab.

Ann-Marie   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

This is so sad, another case of someone surrounding himself with the wrong people. He seemed like he only wanted to make his come back and now in his death it looks like it would have been a great success, his music is flying off the shelves, and everyone's showing their love....too bad he is not here to see it, to see everyone still loved him dispite his flaws...maybe if he knew that he wouldn't have turned to the drugs.

gino FROM EAST NEW YORK.   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

police should question the doctor, if he was given a clean bill of health a moth ago in England, then WHY DID HE DIE. please answer this question.

Maureen San Francisco   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Thanks for celebrating MJ's genius and exploring the dark world of enablers surrounding Hollywood celebrities; keeping their celebrities drugged and hooked. As Dr Drew mentioned: over use of opiates causes death. Sadly both Michael Jackson and Anna Nicloe both died as a result of enablers, both Medical and security wise.

Josephine   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Hello Anderson,
Thus far people have been praising Michael Jackson for his artistic talent. Alot of people are commenting on various things. But no one is mentioning what Neverland did for thousands of sick children. Michael Jackson spent millions of dollars each year on the upkeep of Neverland, not for personal use only, but for thousands of sick children.
I am sadden with the loss of Michael, I will miss Michael the person. I wonderful, gentle, generous, loving person.

Jo   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Lets remember the good. He re-wrote music, dance, life and must be remembered that way. God be with his children, mother, family, friends and the hollywood stars who loved him too.

Sara Ouimet   June 26th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

Michael Jackson was and always will be a legend in many peoples eyes. He has inspired each of us in so many ways and his music has been the soundtrack to many moments in peoples lives. His family are in my prayers. He is now in a better place and his music will live on in my heart. RIP Michael <3

Bette   June 26th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

Why didn't Michael Jackson have a defibrillator in his home if he had heart problems? Also why wasn't one used when the paramedics came on the scene?

amy   June 26th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

First of all, Anderson Cooper you are doing an amazing job delivering all of the facts surrounding the death of Michael Jackson. I cannot stop watching as the events unfold. As a woman in her 30s I grew up watching Michael Jackson and was a true fan. The children today will never have such a great icon in there lives as noone will even come close to him.

Jeffrey Wade   June 26th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

Re: Jackson autopsy: Why do reports on toxicology tests take 4-6 weeks to obtain? Is there a scientific reason this time frame?

jennifer   June 26th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

Michael is gone and the world has lost a great talent, but everytime the media says something good about him it is for 2 minutes, but all the bad things is so dwelled upon more and it seems as if that was all there was to his life.

Who in this world don't have money troubles? Let us focus on his legacy of all the good he had done before he passed on and stop dwelling on his finance and his alleged drug use. The more negative things that is being said is the more you are hurting the family even more espeially his young children. Instead of tearing the dead down why not live and learn from his mistakes and short comings.

All of us who are sitting and talking this and that about Micheal are no better. If a lot of us should get our own dirty laundry aired in public, I bet michael's issues will pale in comparison. Anderson what kind of secret do you have in your closet. how would you feel if it was all out in the open and dwelled upon 24-7. Please let Micheal rest.

Paulette in Tn   June 26th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

I wish Michael didn't have any surgery so that he wouldn't have been introduced to pain killers and then become addicted. He was beautiful the way he was!

with all honesty he lived a very strange life!! As a privat person I think he was very weak and wasn't able to deal with the attacks he got from the media! I am sad, very sad when I think about his 3 children. what will happen to them, I hope they will survive this loss.

It would be great if we had a law passed "MJ Healing Law" in honor of Michael Jackson that criminalizes doctors who overly prescribe pain medications.

We should focus on this GREAT legacy and be mindful of what is covered on the networks for his children could be watching...

I am devastated by the loss of Michael Jackson. I loved him and his music so much. I hope we remember we all owe him a debt of gratitude for giving us so much of himself through his wonderful music and dance. Let's not push him down with negativity but lift him and his family up at this horrible tragedy and moment. It's so unfortunate that doctors and the medical community used him and helped make his life more unhappy.

The show is making me sick right now. Usher and Liza Minnelli and Miko Brando are RIGHT! We SHOULD be celebrating Micheal's life not talking about addictions!

Edward   June 26th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

Is there any way to monitor doctors from writing to many prescription drugs in a certain amount of time.

dainanda   June 26th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

My Opinion is that it is too early to speculate what may have caused his death. Prescription drugs need to be controlled and I really hope that drugs weren't the caused of his death. We need to just let him rest in peace.

Markita Collins   June 26th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

Alot of people criticized you Michael.I didn't let any of that change the way I groove to your music.Man in the Mirror was just brilliant. There will never be another Michael Jackson no one can compare.Michael is a legend. King of Pop. 1958-2009

Chris, Southern Oregon   June 26th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

When I worked at a retail pharmacy in the heart of Hollywood 25 years ago, we were dispensing horrendous amounts of controlled drugs to celebrities. Bottles of 100 Quaaludes went out to one celebrity after another – thousands a week. Diet pills, painkillers, even pharmaceutical cocaine. The famous doctors in our building were well rewarded for this practice. I can't imagine how much worse it is now.

Jerry   June 26th, 2009 10:17 pm ET

What M.J. did is so common and ,unfortunately, unable to be controlled within the health care system we have currently in place. "Doctor Shopping" is so easy without no checks and balances. My Late wife did just that and got enough Morphine tabs from multiple M.D.s without any checks at all. So if one tab is good then 8-9 got to be fantastic?? Well that is certainly not compatible with life, and her life is gone!

Maybe now, respected journalists like you, will take a look at the most disgraceful epidemic happening, right now, in this country; Medically prescribed death and addiction. The key players? The Pharmaceutical companies, in particular Purdue Pharma (OxyContin), the FDA, and the medical organizations, all of whom could have done something about this long ago. The liberal prescribing practices, which were pushed by company’s like Purdue for pure greed, was the impetus to a complete change in medical response to “pain” in America in the late ‘90’s. The FDA approved a defective pill called OxyContin based on junk science, by a company, who in 2007, was found and convicted of fraudulent application.

Since the average physician recieves less than 12 hours of narcotic education/training prior to be issued a narcotic license, they were unprepared for such a deluge. Unfortunately, they allowed the flimsy UN-supportive medical evidence to influence their practices, which is the sole reason for this crisis. Millions have been medically prescribed narcotics inappropriately. The new patient in a detox center today, is more likely to be elderly, not teenagers.

Michael Jackson’s death is not an accident, whether it will be determined that it was an accidental or intentional overdose. His death is the result of greed and incomptetance on the part of the pharmaceutical companies, and our regulatory agencies, aided by a poorly trained medical community, and virtually no regulation or oversight. I hope you will investigate this without the “denial” that has pervaded the media, simply because we are “shocked” that doctors could be involved in such harmful practices.

I

the doctors need to be investigated and charged with manslaughter.. this is a terrible loss to his family the music industry and the world..

Robin Roper   June 26th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

Good evening Cooper. Thank you for such a great program tonight with all of the tributes. I grew up w/Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5 and he touched my life and well as many others, he was a huge part of my childhood and adulthood and he will be missed. I would like to say that no one can judge his life or the way he lived because we were blessed to have him in our lives. As far as Dr. Murray, he needs to "man up" and be held accountable and take responsibility for his actions, God only knows he will be answering for this come Judgement Day. Thank you

jeff g   June 26th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

according to the 911 tape his doctor was doing cpr on the bed ...aren't you supposed to have the patient on a solid surface, like the floor or a table?

steven ohio   June 26th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

the last photo ac talk about that its all over the web

Susan   June 26th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

At this time I think the focus should be on the successes of Michael Jackson and not his "problems" with so-called prescription drugs, there are families that this is effecting, not to mention the greif that we all are feeling. This was the best dancer/singer/entertainer the world will ever know, let him rest in piece...Michael, you will be missed.

Rebecca   June 26th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

doesn't anyone think it's strange that the Dr. just took off? come on, if there wasn't something strange happening...why would you run off and leave your car at the scene? Bizarre

Gordon   June 26th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

Are there legal consequences for the doctor(s) who allowed Micheal Jackson to overdose himself to death?

David, Indiana   June 26th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

@Isabel, I agree many beautiful tributes to Michael Jackson, as you say, from other singers and musicians, artists and his friends, and from his fans. Very moving.

Anderson, I agree with Dr. Gupta and Dr. Drew that prescription drug abuse is a problem, and one that is generally ignored. At this point though, we don't know to what extent if any medications may have caused him to become ill.

Kathy/Louisville   June 26th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

It is important for the truth and cause of Micheal Jackson's death be known. Hopefully others can benefit from knowing and seeing that opiate addiction can kill. It does not take away from his importance to music, it reveals him as human. Addiction is a disease.

Mandy   June 26th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

Hi at all, I totally agreee with what Michaels friend was saying about all the celebrity-doc´s. I hope Michael will find peace from now on. It really reminds me on Elvis´ case. And please don´t dismember Michael´s life. Guess there will be a lots of obsequieses. I was a fan since I was a kid, and withut Michael I hadn´t had become a musician. Thanks to all of you for bringing us up to date. Love

I am a chronic pain patient. My doctors have me in a multi-disiplinary program that does include narcotics.

These drugs are very carefully managed and allow me to function normally for 13 years.

It is unfortunate that Hollywood and people with money can get ahold of massive amounts of narcotics that will kill them, beleiveme i know.

Lisa   June 26th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

as I listen to Dr. Drew and Dr. Gupta, I wonder if Michael, as a result of his death, will move society to require changes be made regarding the over prescribing of drugs–Michael was such a force in life, I contemplate if part of his legacy and fate was to be a force that could only happen in his death–after hearing all that I have in the last 24 hours, I am happy that Michael is out of his tortured existence–may he be at peace. Thank you–

Jen   June 26th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

Michael Jackson will be sadly missed! No matter how he died, it's just a horrible tragedy. I just wish that the people who "loved" him would have "loved" him enough to intervene.

Arijit   June 26th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

I just can't figure out why would he abuse drugs? He doensn't seem that kind of person. If he does have a certain condition then why doesn't he have a personal doctor at ALL times?????

It is disturbing to think that a person needs, in a negative spiral, of more drugs, this drugs do not meet your needs, viciam, and there is a need for more and more

Jeannie Kennedy   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

There should be a Federal Law passed to track Doctor shopping. Maybe all Pharmacies should have a data base where all narcotic prescriptions are entered to track individuals who are receiving several prescriptions from several different doctors. My son's father got 2 scripts of vicodin from 2 doctors in the same day. I reported it to the narcotic detective and nothing was done about it.

Jean   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

Anderson,

Thanks for the honest coverage of this tragedy. I would just like to see all the media let Michael's potential addictions, issues and personal problems rest along with him. Let's take the time to celebrate the enormous contribution that MJ has made to music, pop culture and the lives of us all. Long live the legacy of the King of Pop. the first album that I ever bought.

Jean

Mike, Syracuse, NY   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

It's interesting how everyone seems to blame the doctors and not the user. If he was abusing drugs, no one forced him to do it. I'm sure he was surrounded by a lot of leaches, but he had to let those people take advantage of him. He had free will and chose poorly.

David   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

Micheal jackson is going to be truly missed.we lost one of our greats ever. Them kids is not micheal jacksons ,seriouly micheal is black how is his kids white.them kids dont need his money, they need to take a blood test, ouviusly they aren't his.they have to be abdopted or his late whife lied about he's the father.that doctor did something wrong gave him something bed.

Isabel, Brazil   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

@ Anderson

What will happen with the unpublished songs of Michael Jackson, and the songs that were recorded for the next disc?

And the file of the Beatles songs that belonged to Michael Jackson?

ramoan   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

I find the 911 call very interesting. it appears that the dr had something to hide when the 911 operator asked the caller what the dr witnessed. the dr appeared to not want to answer that question.

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

If these celebrities are having trouble even when doctors are supplying these drugs, can you imagine what would happen if drugs became legal? They would be dying left and right.

Isioma   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

Michael was a great talent, but i don't think he was happy in this life, hope he finds peace now. God bless his soul.

Ashley   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

Im dissapointed that we are jumping to this conclusion of Michael abusing perscription drugs. Like you keep saying, "we just don't know". Maybe it is true, but wouldn't it be a good idea to wait for facts?? This is a man that more or less contributed his life to entertain us, which he did in a way that no one else can, and this is how we repay him? I urge you to imagine if he was your son, brother, father...are these the things you would like to be hearing at this very sensitive time?

Paul Comer   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

Good evening, Does anyone know if Michael Jackson actually had a diagnosed back problem? Also does anyone find it odd that he had an actual cardiologist living with him? We are talking a specialist not a General Practioner??? Thanks

Wow,

I'm still in shock! What about his kids! My heart goes out to them. T

sharon richardson   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

Yes My heart is hurting as for the death of michael Jackson, How sad that know one helped me with his problems with his pain and addiction. I feel for his kids and his family. The media is really tearing him apart. God rest his sole. I really hope and pray that the doctor that injected him with the pain meds didnt overdose him and caused the cardiac arrest.

patricia   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

i cant even begin to think about the personal life of Michael Jackson. He never had a childhood, he started off having to do the things a grown man do not want to do such as work day and night. Rest in peace Mike you are truly going to be missed.

Nicole Atkinson   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

I will pray for the family especially his children. Micheal was loved by many, he will be missed. We all need to remember death is a appointment you can't set and you won't miss. May God Bless The Jackson Family!! Let us remember they are also human.

Nicole   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

Anderson,

Everything to Me sounds suspicious. How could the doctor himself not know that micheal needed to be on a hard area to do CPR, and the fact that the doctor told someone to call 911 or not do it himself until about 20 minuetes later is wierd, Then he is missing after Micheal's death?! I need something to be cleared out, no one deserves to be treated so poorly by someone with a lisence to do that job.

Bobby   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

hey anderson! wouldn't you think the doctor at Michael's house be using a defibrillator? I thought he would have basic materials.

angel   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

this was a man without a childhood that basically had a child mind

Jennifer   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

It makes my heart so sad to know and see that he did not have anyone in his life to have and share love with other than his children and to protect him from something as senseless as this.

Denise   June 26th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

the loss of an entertainer in which words can't even express just how wonderful Michael was, I hope this will really open the eyes of the physicians and users that are abusing the so called "legal" drugs. when being taken like this, there is nothing "legal" about it. it's a shame we had to lose someone as great as Michael. words just can not be found to describe him....RIP Michael.

Denise   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

I don't understand how someone of this Magnitude of Talent could be taken away from this world so unexpectedly and so unnecessarily. If his death was due to overuse of prescribed medications, why didn't someone stop him? He needed an intervention by those who cared about him! Why didn't this happen? Was he really a Lonely Man?

brion   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

it is such a tragedy to see an icon go down like this in these times. He was great and there wont be another michael in your lifetime. He went through alot of stress in his life and its a shame he had to use prescription drugs for him to feel better. These drugs kill people and they should not be using these at all. I dont look at his past with the children because the truth is he should be remembered for his work and great music career and not the negativity that the media likes to portray about him. He lived a very short life as most great performers in his time such as elvis. Why though if you think about it that his doctor is doing cpr on a bad totally confused? Why did he need a cardiologist living with him if his heart was ok? I know he was the greatest performer in my time and i will surely miss him. He never really grew up and lived in this fantasyland which was so sad. The truth is no one is perfect and he made some mistakes but his voice well the best ever. More information will come out about him and we are now learning that the drugs were one of the major factors in his demise. Will they do a funeral like they did with princess diana is the question?

Patty, Miami FL   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

This is so sad but there is a real drug problem – not just in Hollywood. It affects everyone... These drugs are very addictive and dangerous and doctors dont realize what they are doing. All in the name of getting the patient out so they can see the next one and claim all the insurance money. Sad but very true. Its time to do something about this growing problem.

Hannah   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

Why did the 911 caller not ever mention Michael Jackson's name?

Cathryn   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

I have been a nurse for 20 years now and see how easy it is to get pain meds for minimal discomforts. If Michael was given pain meds, then his physicians should be held accountable for monitoring what he was taking, and how often. Again, it is the doctor's responsibility to educate the patient on the effects of the drug's deadly effect when combining various drugs. Doctors need to educate their patients and play a more active role in this area and not be intimidated by the patient's social status in society. Doctor's should look at their patients as if they were their children and don't know any better. IF the doctor does indeed educate the patient on these facts, then they should also back it up in writing, so that they cannot be blamed for the patient's ignorance if they choose to take more of the medications than they are suppose to and then ... die...

Parisa   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

Hi Anderson,
My heart goes out to Michael and all his fans, but please do not forget the Iranians being killed as we speak.

Gloria, Brooklyn, NY   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

As I sit and listen to his music, the lyric to his songs have so many meaning to love and determination.

Marie S.   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

How could this happen again? First it was the "King of Rock and Roll" now we have lost the "King of Pop". Both cut down in the prime of life, it seems so cruel ! Could this be the price of fame?

ana   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

Let's see–
marilyn monroe
elvis presley
freddie prinze
anna nicole smith
rush limbaugh
carrie fisher
I am sure there are many more that I can't think of right now.
Dr. Pinsky and Dr. Chopra are right and maybe there should be some sort of congressional hearings on this. Hollywood doctors are perpetuating these drug addictions, and they should be held accountable. Stars deserve the same protection as every day people.

Jennifer Tenorio   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

Michael Jackson.......The King of Pop.......You will forever be remembered by the whole world. I love you so much and my whole family is so sad that you have passed away. Michael Jackson is a very talented man. You are a great dancer and very kind.........R.I.P. Mcihael Jackson!!!!!!!
We love you so much! Your music really touched all your fans. Your voice and dances skills are AMAZING!!!

Sarath   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

If Michael Jackson's friends knew that he had a prescription medicine problem, WHY didn't anyone do anything to stop it ?

Farhad   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

It was so sad to hear that Michael is dead. I'm from former Soviet Union and I remember when I was 12 and Michael stunned the world with Thriller and Moon walk. He was a truly King of the Pop. He will be missed.

Adrienne B., Southern California   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

Hi everyone!! I agree with all. So many good points being made! I didn't know he had Lupus!! My mom had Lupus, so I know the pain and fatigue he must have been going through. I am sure all questions will be answered once the tox exams are completed. Let's all focus on good memories and enjoy the music! It's crazy here in So. Cal right now, the fans are out in strength! Yes Diane, "Ben" was a beautiful song wasn't it? Take care everyone!

I was very shocked about micheal jacksons death and i want to know more about how he died?

Ed Seaver   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

I got to see Michael in Hoyt–Schermerhorn Streets (New York City Subway) my old neighborhood when he was making the "BAD" and "The Oz". It's the line for A, C train and GG Line! It was a pleasure to meet him.

I was on the GG line (called then) and the conductor opened the wrong side, everyone went back in the train. When the the doors closed and the train pulled out, I was the only one standing there. The security approached me, but MJ said, It's okay. I got see to his production. He is the most affable person you can ever meet!

Joshua Powell   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

It always comes in three's. Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, and now Michael Jackson. Its very sad. I believe he is in a better place now though. No more stress. No more drugs. Just happiness. RIP Michael!

Anthony Grant   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

Hello To Whom Ever May Read This. ATTN Anderson
I have recently noticed that the topic of having been prescribed medications from doctors has been the main focus. No one has brought up the things one needs to do to keep healthy. It's said that he was in good mental and physical health, although there has been no talk of a personal trainer or anyone mentioning his exercise schedule. Was he really doing the correct regiment needed to keep himself healthy?

Anna Amanini   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

Oh God!, Why Michael, why? I'm so speechless, i dont have words to explain how im feeling. When i think of Michael i cry, when i hear a song i cry, i just cry. He is the KING OF POP, KING OF MUSIC. He made it alive, from the dancing to the singing. I LOVE YOU MICHAEL,. Just reading that headline "Michael Jackson DEAD" OMG NO!!! It's like a nightmare that i cant come out of. I LUV U MICHAEL JACKSON

Sonia sadique   June 26th, 2009 10:20 pm ET

Thoughts & prayers to the Jackson family. And hopefully the precious children will be shielded from the negativity some seem unable to let go of. They have a right to remember their father for the amazing person he was.

How is it possible here in NY State that I need to show ID and sign for Claritin D-24 so that they can keep records of my usage.......but tonight on the show they’re stating they can’t keep tract of Dr’s who are prescribing prescription drugs? Are you kidding me.....what a joke.

You build up a tolerance to these drugs..been there ....you need more and more just to feel normal...........pain is a hard thing for people to empathize with unless they have been there.......it is sad but when you are in pain you dont think about anything else but."give me my life back"..it is hard

Chastina   June 26th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

I love Michael Jackson…and I am going to miss him. I am a dancer and he has influenced my world so much! I still can’t believe that he is gone. A piece of me and my inspiration to dance is now gone.
He seems like he is truely a good person. No matter what you think about him…he has done so much work for children…and that takes a big person with a big heart!!

Dawn Olivier   June 26th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

I am incredibly saddened by this unfortunate tragedy.
He touched so many and was so very talented.
Such a shame.

But what I don't understand is .. all these people are coming out now that were so close to him, but why didn't they help him when they had the chance if so many knew he was suffering inside?

May his soul rest in peace.

Gerald   June 26th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

This is like a part a my past just faded. You can not appreciate someone like Micheal Jackson until something like this happens. He was clearly alive when he was on stage. He will always be apart of our lives...his catalog of music will keep him forever with us and generations to come.

Lisa   June 26th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

Right before Dr. Drew mentioned Britney Spears I had the same thought - this is what would have happened to her if it were not for her father. Maybe, hopefully, other celebrities that are being over medicated will learn from this.

Jeffrey Wade   June 26th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

My Family is going to miss Michael Jackson!!! We always believed in him all the way to the end!!!

Brett W. Tanner, Pharm.D.   June 26th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

As a pharmacist I can tell you that Oxycontin is a long acting pain reliever and generally dosed every 10 to 12 hours. Dilaudid is a short acting pain reliever that would be used for "breakthrough pain" in between doses of a long acting pain reliever. Pain Management is a specialty however, some physicians think that they may understand the proper way to balance a patient's therapy.

Linda Donovan   June 26th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

Thanks to Dr Pinsky for comments regarding medication for chronic pain. I was prescribed Motrin for 10 years for fibroid myalgia until I developed bleeding beneath my skin. I quit Motrin (also Advil and aspirin), and began exercising to build my tolerance for pain. It worked. Ten years later, I still get 'blood blisters' on my right arm if I scrap against the skin, but the pain is nearly absent, as long as I exercise every other day.

Gordon   June 26th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

Is the doctor who was with Miochael Jackson the night before and the morning he died subject to legal consequences for not getting him to a hospital instead of trying to cover his own ass by trying to treat him himself?

Keith   June 26th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

Leave him alone he died and you all will never let him rest people took pictures of him when he is dead that is disrespectful he deserves better I never got to meet him but wish I could have.He will always be rembered R.I.P Michael Jackson

christine jackson   June 26th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

All Micheal ever wanted was to have a childhood he never got.So pray for the Jackson family especially his kid that their sorrows r not so hard.Micheal had a gift and he shared it with the world. I think we should mirror that.

Loren G   June 26th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

Apparently, the guy had a $100K unpaid pharmacy bill that was reported settled with the pharmacy. Clearly, a pretty good clue to anyone like a promoter, doctor, insurance company, that he was getting more than his fair share of meds. That's a pretty good tracking system to see who's taking what from how many doctors.

I am a die hard Michael Jackson fan. To see that , even though he has passed, still has negative things to say about him. What about the good things he ahs done for people all around the world. He has entertained us for 45 years. And yet we still have bad thins to say. Isnt it time we leave the past in the past and focus on the present and the future. Do you think that maybe Michael was taking pills because he really was in pain!!! I think so. I love him an his family and Lets let them grieve in peace, witout all the assumptions!
Thank You!

Michael Jeffery   June 26th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

I was born in 83 and didnt get to see him grow into music, but from what I know of him, he was an awsome icon, great talent, and will be very missed by all.

Maureen T, Canada   June 26th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

Good evening Anderson. It's been a day of reminiscing about the late, great Michael Jackson! Lots of tears and some laughter! RIP Michael, you will be missed!

Troy Goodjohn   June 26th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

when will we look at the contribution to music and to the culture that was raised on his creative talent?

Heloiza   June 26th, 2009 10:21 pm ET

I remember growing up in Brazil and singing Michael's songs to improve my English. I had the opportunity to personally meet him in Las Vegas while we were both staying at Caesars Palace. He was so polite, attentive and caring. We took pictures and discussed brazilian music. Michael was special and above all not guilty.

Renee   June 26th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

Maybe friends/neighbors/family members were obtaining all of these drugs for him.

Karen   June 26th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

This is a sad day for his family, friends, fans and the world. We used his talent to see us through our lives, we owe him now to let him rest in peace. Show our appreciation by letting his family mourn their great loss. He without sin let him cast the first stone. God Bless the Jackson family.

Lori Howard   June 26th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

My condolences go out to the children of Michael Jackson, who are far too young to lose their father. May their pain be eased by the knowledge that he is out of finally pain.

I hope that his family decides to find a way to inter him at his beloved Neverland Ranch, which he saved on the eve of foreclosure. He deserve to go home again and forever.

God Bless.

Milzen   June 26th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

It doesn't matter what the real cause of Michael Jackson's death is. All we know is that millions of people worldwide are mourning and is still in shocked from his sudden death. No one can replace Michael Jackson. I feel like Elvis Presley died again. It's the end of the era. RIP Michael Jackson. You will always be in our hearts.

David Stanley   June 26th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

I like Lisa Marie Presley feel such a sense of deja vu with the death of Michael Jackson. As the youngest stepbrother to Elvis Presley, one who moved into Graceland at the age of four (1960) living, growing up with and later working for Elvis, I was also among the first to come across his lifeless body on August 16, 1977. Since that day I've done countless interviews, written articles and talked about the dangers of prescribed medications and the psychological and emotional dynamics behind this misuse. Now here we are 32 years later with the death of Michael Jackson dying so much like Elvis did and for the first time I hear guests on the show talking about this problem openly. For 32 years nobody seemed to listen. My niece Lisa Marie talked about it on her blog – she was just 9 nine years old when Elvis died. It's sad that it took the death of yet another American icon to bring the dangers of prescribed abuse to public platform. I was there the day Elvis died. I saw drug abuse from prescribed medications that was and still is unspeakable. For my continued openness about this topic I've taken many shots over the years for what alot of people felt was an attack on Elvis. I guess it took the death of another King to get the world's attention. Understand this, they are just people not kings. David E. Stanley

Idont believe any Doctor should give anyone multiple medications and above all administer lethal doses michael jackson was one of a kind and an all time star and will be remembered threw his music and him as a person

J.N. - Canada   June 26th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

why didn't the doctor get him to a hospital sooner if he was complaining of chest pains?

Linda - Cleveland, Oh   June 26th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

These professional legal drug dealer doctors should be charged with the murder of Michael Jackson. My prayers go
out to the Jackson Family.

jennifer   June 26th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

Micheal Jackson was a beautiful soul. I remember several years ago when Oprah interviewed him, and America got a glimpse of who he really was as a person. I fell in love with him at that time. To look at his eyes and listen to his voice was to know that he was an amazing man. He may have been troubled, but I don't believe that he ever purposely harmed anyone in his life, especially children. If he died of a Rx overdose I will be pissed at the doctor that allowed it to happen. I am devastated that such a beautiful and brilliant person is gone before his time.

adrian NC   June 26th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

ok now i'm confused why r they acting like the king of pop was a pill popper. Whats really confusing is why this doctor didn't help him or did he help him to much and left when he realize what he did

cate   June 26th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

i wish as friends and entertainment people we could help are favorite people before they are in trouble or dead. This is very sad that all these great things are being said about MJ after he is gone and can not hear how sooooo many people loved, admired, respected and copied him. Maybe if we know these things while we are alive it would help us to be stronger and self assured.

Kerrian   June 26th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

It saddens me that it takes this tragic moment to realize how life is so precious, and what it means to love each another. At this time we should remember the wonderful things he accomplished and all the people he impacted across the globe. His legacy will live on.

Deb in SoCal   June 26th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

That MD was just panicking and trying to cover his backside...he knew full well how to perform CPR. Either MJ was already dead and the doc was putting on a good show, or he was trying to use whatever he had in his little black bag to fix the mess he made. Primum non nocere!

Jackie   June 26th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

Anderson: I think there should be deeper investigation of the doctor with Michael Jackson when he passed. Why didn't he go to the hospital with him? Something just doesn't add up.

Janelle   June 26th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

Hopefully Michael Jackson's legacy will be his music, not his public life. That's what his legacy is to me. I was a freshman in high school when Thriller came out. It was absolutely phenomal. Nobody else had ever sounded that way, looked that way or moved that way. To my generation he truly was an icon.

While he made those dance moves look so graceful and effortless, anyone who tried to imitate them knows they were almost physically impossible. The human body just was not designed to move that way. It's not hard to understand why, as he got older, he would be in a lot of pain. Especially, when at 50, he was trying to get in shape to dance that way again night after night on a concert tour.

It's unfortunate that he appears to have become addicted to the pain pills, and the doctors that continued to supply him should all lose their medical licenses and be charged with mal practice.

Kevin Grimes   June 26th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

2 words sum up the world's greatest entertainer – "MICHAEL JACKSON"!!! That's all need be said, he is & was the standard of creative excellence!

I am so deeply disappointed and upset about this news. I have loved Michael since I was a child and still continue to do so. I just for the life of me cannot understand how a doctor (a cardiologist at that) would even attempt to do CPR while Michael Jackson was still on the bed. That is one of the most irresponsible and careless thing he could do in that situation. He should have his license revoked IMMEDIATELY. So many things could have prevented this death and none of them were done.

Karen   June 26th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

It's a real shame to lose such a musical genius but I thought we were just going to hear facts tonight and not speculations. Karen from Canada

good evening will the family in time have a museum like elvis to honor his memory, prayers to his family, what a sad time for his family bless all an pray for them, concentrate on his good things he did

Kim Nix   June 26th, 2009 10:22 pm ET

I heard something in the 911 call that no one has addressed. When the caller from Mj's home called 911 he said CPR was being given from his bed, the 911 operator told him to put MJ on the floor. It is common knowledge that CPR should be done on a hard surface. Why didn't his doctor know that?

Christine   June 26th, 2009 10:23 pm ET

I'm really hoping that this is all some sort of elaborate hoax and that we'll hear news that Michael is indeed alive and well. Oh Please. I won't even be angry. And I'll somehow make my way to London this summer to watch him.

I still can't believe, still don't want it to be true.

Aric   June 26th, 2009 10:23 pm ET

Anderson, I wanted to know, as a nursing student about to graduate with a BSN, what your panelists think of the doctor supposedly performing CPR on a bed (presumably with no CPR board available), rather than moving Mr. Jackson to the floor. I am low on the medical totem pole, but trauma 101 tells you that you need a firm surface for CPR to be effective. The 911 operator advised them to put him on the floor, but the doctor was performing CPR on the bed? What does Dr. Gupta think of this? I would really like to hear you discuss that with them if you get a chance. Thank you!

Jeannie Kennedy   June 26th, 2009 10:23 pm ET

It does seem odd that a tour sponsor hired this doctor to accompany Michael on his tour. My thought is that this may have been a requirement from Michael as a stipulation to go on tour. It was stated that Michael had known this doctor separately from the sponsor so maybe he specifically requested this doctor knowing he would get the drug whenever and wherever he could.

Kalisia   June 26th, 2009 10:23 pm ET

i just wanted to comment on the impact of Michael Jackson's death.
I live in Saint Vincent, which is a small island in the Caribbean, at present this is our Carnival season but tonight im not hearing any soca music instead my neighbour is paying homage to the legend by balsting all his hits...and to think this great icon have never graced these shores for a concert, yet through the media he has made it into our homes and hearts.

I thought about maybe if Micheal Jackson mixed up his medictations the reactions if would have on his health .

sharon, sydney, ns   June 26th, 2009 10:23 pm ET

For his entire life, Micheal Jackson's life was observed as if under a microscope. I realize that his status as a pop icon will lead to and deserves comemoration, but I hope that the press will just give him his due and finally let the man rest in peace. I pray his death doesn't turn into the circus his life became.

Theresa R   June 26th, 2009 10:23 pm ET

I grew up with Michael the first song as a 3 yr old that I learned to sing was "I'll Be there" and to this day a 39 yr old my brothers still tease me and say well sis lets hear "I'll be there, His music was always a big part of my life, my first real love was the summer of 1987 and our song was Michaels "I can't help loving you<" I will miss him dearly no matter what has been said or done Michael Jackson was an icon in the music business, who was cheated out of his childhood, and that's where all his problems steamed from, I relate to that. He just tried to recreate what he missed out on,, may Jesus wrap his arms around him, and tell him "CHILD WELL DONE"

Ron   June 26th, 2009 10:23 pm ET

My prayers and thoughts go out to Micheals family and kids during this time. May they feel God's love around them at this time of loss. The one thing that was great about Micheals music is it was always clean. I wish all people who make music could follow that kind of an example

Dina Fairfax VA   June 26th, 2009 10:23 pm ET

we all love him and my heart goes out to his family and friends. i do realize that figuring out how he died is important, but instead of making a monster out of him we should remember him and celebrate his life. No one person will ever be able to compare to anything that he has done in his life. i still just can't believe he is gone R.I.P Michael<3

Rachel   June 26th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Michael Jackson has been and will always be a part of our hearts and minds forever. I just sincerely hope that his children will be taken care of by people who love them which does not include their mother. May his children and the rest of the world remember him the way he was for his love for children, his love for his fans, his music and dance. He is truely irrepacable. May he not be taken advantage in death as he was in life. All my sympathy to his family abd those close to him at this unimaginable difficult time.

Bob   June 26th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

Mr Anderson do we really know Micheal Jackson religion? Nobody is talking about it because all the religions have different way of handling funeral.

trina   June 26th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

I love and miss MJ. Please listen to the call for addiction treatment~the State of Illinois is cutting treatment dollars by up to 75%. Michael Jackson is a prime example of why treatment needs to be more available. Please help.

Eddie C.   June 26th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

I only have one questions that keeps bothering me. I could understand the doctor (Dr. Conrad Murray) taking say, up to 15 minutes to administer CPR and then if he's getting nowhere, rush Michael Jackson to the hospital. BUT, I cannot understand why it took him 45 (FORTY-FIVE) LONG MINUTES to get Michael Jackson to the hospital. Please explain that. Hospitals have all the equipment they need to get him going again whereas I'm sure he didn't carry that equipment around in his medical bag. Sorry, but to me, something is SERIOUSLY WRONG with how this doctor handled this. 45 minutes is too long. MJ was already dead. And then he had the audacity to refuse to sign the certificate. He didn't want that hanging over his head, I understand that, but MJ was already long gone. And now the time of death will forever be wrong. And how does a doctor disappear after treating someone so legendary? He has serious questions to answer. We lost the legend due to incompetence. Very, very sad. Thanks. Eddie C.

Donna   June 26th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

I think it is a shame that so much media coverage has gone to the death of Michael Jackson, While I appreciated his acute talent and his stella reputation, it seems obvious that he died from a drug overdose. Farrah Fawcett, who fought for several years with desperate measures to save her life has had no coverage at all. The death of a person who truly appreciates life is certainly more tragic than the death of one who has no appreciation of life. If you want to cover a story, uncover all the drug pushers in the medical field and have their licences removed.

Deryck MoiThukShung, GA   June 26th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

Although I was born in 1989 Micheal Jackson was my all time favorite. I was raised with my grandparents so I knew all of his music as if I grew up in his time. It saddens me to know that he died from medications and not by natural causes. Although he was taking the drug, someone had to have given it to him and that someone should be held accountable!!!! R.I.P Micheal J. Jackson.. I will forever miss you and your music and wil keep your family in my prayers

As a Trauma RN, I am perplexed by the actions of this MD. Why did he give MJ Meperidine? Why was he performing CPR on a soft surface? I am still in shock over this tragedy--I grew up with The Jackson Five. May this great Entertainer rest in peace.

Blair Michael   June 26th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

I am shocked, upset, and just a mix of emotions as to what has happened to the king of pop. Ive been a far for years and cant seem to keep my tears back. I dont remember the last time I vried but this pushed me over the edge. I dont care what people say about Michael, he was amazing, talented, a father, a miracle, a friend, a genius and will never be forgotten and millions will never forget the amazing impact that he has had on the world and the love that he has shared through his lyrics will forever live on. May you rest in peace Michael, and remember "you are not alone"

Madoff with spending time in jail? sheesh, i bet hes mad off :D

Chrisy Tipton   June 26th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

The 911 call suggested that the doctor was doing CPR on Jackson while he was lying on the bed. Wouldn't a cardiologist know that CPR needs to be done on a hard surface? Maybe, he keeps a crash board with him wherever he goes?

Alice   June 26th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

Hi Anderson,
I have a son 1 yr. older than Michael Jackson and he is on prescription drugs for back pain and I know he is addicted. And I am so worried one day the same thing may happen to him. It is not just in Hollywood these doctors write prescriptions just for the money. I wish I just don't know where to turn or who to talk to. I wish you could maybe give me some advice.
Thank you,
Alice

Karen   June 26th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

Deepak Chopra....I haven't really paid attention when I've seen you on the various talk shows....but your insight and take no prisoners honestly when it comes to Michael Jackson is heroic........no one speaks up...it's a dirty little secret because if word gets out about a star who is an addict....it will ruin his/her career and thereby ruin the income of numerous people.....so it's hushed up.......by the very people who profit from their fame..........horrendous.......I truly don't care if this makes people aware of the "hollywood doctors" who are hangers on and just feed the addict what they need.....I am more concerned and (God I hope!!!) this brings to light the true...and greater problem.....people....it's not hollywood......it's not being in show biz at a young age.....the real problem.....the real downfall of our society......it is your neighbor.....the mom next door who seems out of it .....she's just ditzy (no, she's an addict!!!) .......the kid two houses down......just a nice kid....yes he was.....but now he's an addict.....bottom line......in the coming days you will hear more and more about the "hollywood" doctors who supplied Michael with whatever he wanted.....it will be hinted at that he has preferencial treatment......that the "business" ruined him..........but the TRUTH is that.....that is the tip of the iceburg....and you hear about it because he is famous....you truly don't know about the 6 kids in your cul-de-sac in Buffalo, New York who have been to rehab 4 times............there is something vehemently wrong with out society when an 18 year old...can go to a doctor in miami......and be perscribed enough oxycontin to kill a horse....because of his "backache" .......and you as a parent have no right to ask for any records of what he's being treated for....or what perscriptions he's on......because of PRIVACY LAWS......you pay his health care......and yet you have no right to ask what he is being treated for......a "perfect storm" for the teenager intent on getting high.....MUCH MUCH MUCH easier to get than sitting outside a 7-11 and asking someone to buy you alcohol.....go get some Oxy.....and it's covered under your parents health coverage.....that my friend.....is what I hope Michael Jacksons death will uncovedr....unfortunately....your neighbor isn't noteworthy....and the focus will be on the famous...and their perks.....and the suburban parents who asked the right questions....and checked on their child....won't have a clue....until it's too late.....

I am so sad. I am 48 yrs old and practically grew up with MJ watching him on tv, music videos, albums/cd's, etc. I can't believe how sad I feel. I actually cried as if a family member just died. He has left behind a legacy of some of the best music we'll ever hear. Also, I have ALWAYS believed in his innocence. He is a child of God and nothing or no body can take that away from him.

The doctors are using his clebrity to prsecribe the medications he used for money for thier own gain .

Dee Simpson   June 26th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

At the Coroner's press conference today, the spoksperson said the reason they had to do the autopsy on Michael Jackson was because no doctor was there to sign the death certificate. My understanding was that a Doctor was with him doing CPR when the 911 call was made. Also, What about all the doctors at the hospital – couldn't they sign it?

April   June 26th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

Michael Jackson leaves a great legacy in history of music worldwide. He was absolutely spectacular. Although a history of life, full of scandals, is the biggest star of pop.

ashley   June 26th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

i think that perscription drugs cause nothing but problems. i have lost many people in my life due to perscription drugs. the government needs to step in and create stricter laws for our people, so that great people like Michael Jackson will not be lost.

It saddens me that another great artist died before his time i feel as part of my childhood died i hope he is in a better place it just proves even the best of us fall may he rest in peace.

Lori from IL   June 26th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

All this coverage of Michael Jackson brings back memories of jr. high dances with the music of the Jackson Five part of the playlist. Hope once all the questions are answered, we can remember Michael as the multitalented musician/performer he was and the good he did in bringing world attention to the famine in Africa.

Jen, Albany NY   June 26th, 2009 10:25 pm ET

I am shocked and so saddened to hear of the loss of Michael Jackson, grew up listening to his music, so many memories. I especially loved the songs Ben (so hard to listen to this song the past 2 days, it has been making me tear up) and Thriller. He was an amazing artist, a true icon. Throughout all the years with his personal pains and criticism, I hope he is finally at peace. My thoughts go out to his family, especially his mother and his 3 children.

Lucille Cumming   June 26th, 2009 10:25 pm ET

I find it tremendously sad, that in todays times, we continue to have these leeches, that are so gung ho on being with the "rich and famous", that they would put these super stars at risk! I agree that it is time to crack down on these MDs' who pass out drugs like they were candy! If in fact, the results come back that Micheal died due to an overdose of drugs or that drugs played a huge part in his demise, then all of the MDs names that are on his prescriptions and those who hung around him, should be prosecuted to the fullest of the law!
Micheal was so vulnerable, due to his loneliness, and his disappointment in mankind, that he fell for the wrong crowd, he surrounded himself with all the wrong people. Not one of these people cared a hang about him, and only contributed to his demise, and only thought of themselves. When I heard the 911 call, I could not help but hear that the voice of the man calling 911, did not have any strain or stress in his voice, and never gave them the name of who was in distress! I can only summize that Micheal must have been dead for a period of time and that after these people realized that he was in fact gone, then and only then, did they make the call. If this so called doctor was a true cardiologist, then why did he not know that he should not have done CPR on the bed and that he should have had Micheal on the floor!
I don't know, but there are too many, too too many questions that are unanswered and leaves me scrathing my head. I am a simple woman, but one who asks questions right away, and uses common sense and as of now, am left hanging when it comes to this doctor who did not seem to know what to do. Things that make you go... hmmmmmm. In any case, Micheals demons are now gone, and he is now free to be himself, a child, a man, just free! God bless you, Micheal.....R.I.P.

I am a retired firefighter EMT. It is my experience that most doctors don't even know how to give C.P.R. The Doctor that you had to your left on screen, last night didn't even know that a heart attack could lead to a cardiac arrest. I don't know what happened to M.J. but it is sad. All I know is you should talk to the Real People that treated him. Not just people with opionions. I watched Wolf Blitzer and the doctor that he had with him seemed to really know what is up.

Thanks,
Bill

I didn't know the guy, but i feel as though he was in all of our homes. I was...no I am a Michael Jackson fan, a die hard Michael Jackson fan. What can i say the guy was the king. I hate that I always get upset like this when people die but each and every time it feels so unnatural. Especially with Mike. He was larger and louder than life and to think that he himself has been forever silenced is unreal....So many stars from that day, that era have died. And it feels as though they have cleared the space for our scumy generation. How unfortunate....Im 16

Susan Fitzgerald   June 26th, 2009 10:25 pm ET

Not accurate that narcotics prescribed for a patient by a variety of doctors cannot be checked relatively easily. There is something called a "CURES" report available that doctors with addict patients or drug seeking patients can access by patient name. Also, any doctor's prescribing practices re narcotics can also be checked by a CURES report. Any doctor under suspicion by the Medical Bd. of California or the DEA for excess prescribing of narcotics will likely have a CURES report generated early in any investigation.

Phil   June 26th, 2009 10:25 pm ET

Anderson, why was Michael on the bed receiving CPR from a "cardiologist"? The 911 asked them to get MJ on the floor. Why did Dr. Conrad Murray at the scene not know to follow standard CPR procedure?

Ronald Ghedine   June 26th, 2009 10:25 pm ET

I'm not being mean it's just a question...I think this a devastating issue but I just can't fathom the situation. Michael you are deeply missed and loved.

ppl just don't understand all we have lost.He was misused and robbed by many. The reason most don't know him because they were to busy trying to find a way to scam or sue him.Stressed him to death literally.Mike didn't deserve that and why many were raised up listening and seeing other icon Mike was all I had and now he gone. But I and many others don't necessarily how he died we are to busy celebrating his life.

If Micheal Jackson accidently took too much demerol (which would have suppressed his respirations,) it is hard to understand why his doctor would not have immediately give him Narcan.
I am a nurse in Canada and this is the prescribed treatment in this type of situation.
Periodically we see patients whose respirations are depressed due to aneasthesia or an overdose of demerol or morphine. Doctors order Narcan and the situation is corrected.
I find it very strange that his doctor started chest compressions, if indeed his respirations were depressed as a result of morphine or demoral overdose.
As well, how strange that his doctor would do chest compressions on a bed.?
The whole situation doesn't make sense if indeed there was an MD in attendence.

Frisco Canyon   June 26th, 2009 10:25 pm ET

The cause of death is that the heart stopped. The cause of the heart to stop, as in Michael's case, allegedly, are prescription drugs. But, is not the real cause of death related to his choice of values? He was probably informed of the risks but decided to continue to take these pain relieving medications on his own free will anyway. He made choices that were not compatible with life.

melissa   June 26th, 2009 10:25 pm ET

When was Dr. Murray licensed in CA? I found licenses for TX and NV but not CA. I agree with Vickie, the 911 caller was way too calm. Who made the call?

I think a part of the reason we are all so sad to lose MJ is because a part of our childhood dies with him.

Michael Jackson is an Icon. He is a legend whose legacy will never be surpassed. He is the epitome of greatness and as the world mourns this great loss we should all honour him by reflecting on his fantastic accomplishments rather than elaborating on some bad decisons or "mistakes" . We have lost a great man. We should respect and honour him... not deface his legacy!

Katherine   June 26th, 2009 10:26 pm ET

So Long Jacko

We have lost an idol today
A life cut short
A man that was something to behold
Having four and four decades past
I remember him in many different ways
Yes he was far from normal
Gifted in so many ways
Leaving a mark on this life for all of time
A legend of many generations
Indeed a legacy of mankind
Though for far too many years
So many have idolized a human being
Far be it for us to see
He was merely a man
A man that has done miraculous things yes
But still just a man
What we the public do
To these entertainers, actors, politicians
Place them on such a platform
A high pedestal if you will
Never able to live a normal life
So sad but true
This man longed for normalcy
So many years of his life
He was forced to keep hidden away
If we would only allow this type
To live something of a normal life
Though gifted
They are still human beings
If only once as an adult
He were to be allowed
To walk the streets as a simple man
To trust another nearly impossible to do
Success a strange animal
So many years tormented
He longed to be accepted
With such a talent
Yet beaten down in many ways
By mouth and hand
As an innocent child
Teased in many ways for his looks
Unable to love and accept
That man in the mirror
As many in generations of appearances
He longed to change
The image of what he longed to see
In that mirror
Who is looking back at me
A man of many gifts
A life cut far too short
So many questions
Many answers
We many never have or know
Only God will know all of the truth
As the “King of Pop”
Will stand before God
As we all will
Only unto God will he answer to
Therefore
Let us not place judgment on this soul
An unbelievable legend of his time
Nothing no one could ever be compared to
But merely a man
Let us give thanks
Rejoice to what he has given this life
No matter what controversy surrounds him
He is now without pain we mortals endure
Lifted up…
May he finally be at peace
Throughout eternity
Good-bye Michael
We love you
And will cherish
So much of what you left this life

@starr, how easy would it be to go to multiple doctors and get multiple prescriptions? We seem to blame the doctors when it could be very easy to deceive everyone.

Jacqueline, NY   June 26th, 2009 10:26 pm ET

Evening all! Late getting to the party.

@Howard Storey, I have the same question, and them some regarding Michael's "doctor." Perhaps just the "FEEL GOOD" doctor. Many celebrities and the like, keep them around.

Patty, Miami FL   June 26th, 2009 10:26 pm ET

The entertainment industry has lost a true legendary icon prematurely. I remember practicing that moonwalk endlessly. RIP Michael...

Margaret White   June 26th, 2009 10:26 pm ET

Michael is only 6 years older than me. From my first recollection I have of music playing in my house, I recall the Jackson 5. I grew up with Michael and the Jackson 5. I am so sad and hurt. I don’t know what to do with all the sadness. Michael is like the family. I mourn for Michael in the same way I mourn for beloved members of my family when they have passed on.

Michael annouced HIS Final curtain call to the world on the eve of his upcoming touring. Sadly the the curtain came down sooner than expected. HIS passing has touch so many of us. It personally leaves with a void in my heart. His music inspires so many of us. And if we take the time to reflect on what his talents have given each of us, we will begin to make a change. Take a look in the mirror and in Micheal’s honor vow to make a change for the better.

I’m Gonna Make A Change,
For Once In My Life
It’s Gonna Feel Real Good,
Gonna Make A Difference
Gonna Make It Right . . .

I’m Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
I’m Asking Him To Change
His Ways
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place
Take a look at Yourself, And
Then Make a Change.

When one dies, and are in heaven, and looks back on his/her earthly life, it is my prayer that he/she will not see the life he/she left behind as a vigorous battlefield from which we have retired from; we shall view it as an insubstantial dream from which we have happily awoken from in the presently of the Almighty GOD . Michael Jackson is happy now. He is at peace, and finally his body, mind, heart, and soul can rest. He will be with us always through his music. And we must learn from his life that we must be there for each other. May God Bless You, and keep you in his eternal grace.

My prayers go out to all members of the family of Michael Jackson.

Karina in Toronto   June 26th, 2009 10:26 pm ET

Michael Jackson was enabled, at best, and addicted at worst. I've read 3 biographies in the last couple of months on Howard Hughes.....and I feel like more than 30 years after HRH's death, the same thing has happened.
Michael Jackson is in many ways parallel to Hughes.

They were both pioneers in their respective fields, MJ in music, Hughes in aviation. Pioneers easily become superstars, with overt attention placed on every aspect of their lives. Quirks became excentricities, which then simply became overpowering addictions and behaviours which no one would stop. They both surrounded themselves with people who simply ignored, and then enabled their destructive behaviours, simply turning a blind eye to oddities and making it 'normal' to do what they do. Both had seen declines in their mental and physical states. Both had dubious business associates who I believe have taken them for millions and millions, while concurrently having multiple suits charged against them to try and get more money.

I'm saddened for the Jackson family, and especially for his children...........but oddly, I'm not surprised by this mysterious death. Hope he has a will, so that his death and subsequent legal battles don't drone on for years. His children deserve peach and comfort. Pray they will be taken care of...

Thank you,
K

Watching the reports on Michael Jackson is a flashback for me. His unfortunate death makes me remember everything that went on when Elvis died. History is repeating itself. I hope there is someone in the family or a close friend as smart as Priscella was/is to ensure that Michael's legacy lives on and that his 3 children are cared for as he would have done and would have wanted.

There is no system in place to see if a patient is doctor shopping or is being treated by more than one physician for the same medical condition. This is one of the primary reasons why it is so important for the health care industry to invest in information technology and move to electronic medical records, which will allow physicians to share information with each other more easily. There is a prescription benefits database but it is not available to health care providers , in addition there are some pharmacies which records are not collected from and so there is a chance that a patient might be taking medication which may or may not be captured. Electronic medical records and a system which allows physicians to share medical records is the way to go.

If this Dr. with Michael was as stated a Cardiologist. It seems strange that the 911 dispatcher had to tell the caller to have Michael removed from the bed & placed on the floor. As a lay person most of us know CPR must be preformed on a hard surface.

The only good thing about MJ's death is alot of great music on the radio

Anderson,

My prayers go with the Jackson family and to his friends. About the personal physician, did the family know about this doctor or ever speculate anything about this doctor? I highly agree with Dr. Chopra about doctors acting like "groupies", and wanting to put their names from fame. My father is born on the same day and year as Michael Jackson, and died from cardiac arrest also. It's very surreal. My advise to the family, please have a complete investigation, and please check his medical records from all of his doctors; all the way to now. I feel that Dr. Chopra should work with and consult with the family on this.

Susan   June 26th, 2009 10:27 pm ET

I am a Clinical Nurse Specialist with a speciality in pain management. Please note that the comments from your physician experts about the use of opioids for pain management are very distressing and inaccurate. Opioids DO NOT CAUSE ADDICTION! TAKING OPIOIDS FOR PAIN MANAGEMENT IS NOT ADDICTION! These types of inaccurate comments result in barriers to safe and effective pain management. Please, I implore you to consult physician pain experts from nationally recognized pain management organizations such as the American Pain Society for accurate opinions. If Michael Jackson suffered chronic pain, opioids could very well have been an appropriate component to his care. DO NOT BLAME Michael Jackson, or any other individual requiring opioids for pain. Perhaps the opioids were not ordered appropriately or safely, but that information is unknown. Please STOP making assumptions and leading your audience to believe that opioids cause addiction. Addiction is a primary, chronic disease...and just like any other disease requires treatment. But opioids do NOT cause the disease.

Respectfully,
Susan

Can someone asked this question...In regards to the family of M.J.
and the 50 concerts...I would like to see the Jackson family stand up and pay tribute to their brother by honoring his commitment to his fans. They could do the planned concerts to say thanks for loving my brother. That way the fans who bought tickets can still go and help
celebrate the life of Michael Jackson. That would to certainly ease
the cost of the massive refund.

But CNN has by far been the best to watch. PLEASE continue wih the coverage. This loss has not fully been felt by all of us fans.
UNBELIEVABLE...........to say the least.

Robin   June 26th, 2009 10:27 pm ET

when i was put on opiates for chronic disabling pain I had to sign a contract stating I would get them from no other source than the doctor treating me and it became part of my medical record, I had to see him once a month for refills and this way he could keep track and make sure I wasn't abusing them either accidentally or on purpose. I think this kept me accountable to everyone and kept me from developing problems as i admit i do have potential for addiction.

Heather - Spokane, WA   June 26th, 2009 10:27 pm ET

I heard a mother and her son talking today at the grocery store and they were talking about Michael Jackson's death. The little boy said that he knew why he died and the mom asked why. He said that God needed help learning how to dance and that his moonwalk was rusty.

I am still in great shock over MIcheal's death. It is such a great loss in the music industry. no one will ever take his place he is and will always be the only king of pop. I love you Micheal.

The untimely death of gifted artist Michael Jackson took me by surprise. Though gone, he will never be forgotten. From pervious, present, and future generations his artistic vision/ creativity will remain alive always. Michael will be sorely missed around the world.
For the family, especially the children sorry for the lost. Try to take comfort in knowing that Micheal Jackson (King of Pop) will continue to be an inspirational figure that was LOVED by many.

Loyal fan,

It seems odd that the doctor would take an hour to call for help. Is it possible this has happened before? Or do you think he was scared to death because he administered the medication to mike?

Paul   June 26th, 2009 10:27 pm ET

I have been a MJ fan my entire life thus far and will continue, I am curious at how many people went out today and bought albums? Long live the king.

Krasi   June 26th, 2009 10:28 pm ET

What's even worse than the shock of his passing is the fact that so many will take advantage and exploit the situation for money or their own benefit. It's just horrible and I honestly hope these kids do not suffer because of that.

odion   June 26th, 2009 10:28 pm ET

It is illegal for a doctor to prescribe drugs as they like effectually to celebs over money thats so wrong, he "doctor" should be investigated properly and if any sign of guilt someone should go to jail for it for others to lean

Deana   June 26th, 2009 10:28 pm ET

I realize and respect Michael's artistic talent. In that light he was fantastic. However, I don't agree with some that are saying this topic should only deal with that part of him. He obviously was troubled in many ways. Why should we gloss over his bad habits or speculation of his actions just because he has passed away? My heart is broken over the lost of Michael Jackson. He was my generation's Elvis. My prayers go out to his family, especially his 3 children. RIP MJ. I hope you are finally at peace.

cathy l   June 26th, 2009 10:28 pm ET

why has debbie rowe been so silent? does she have anything to do with her biological children?

although it is honorable to (try) and focus on michael jackson's incredible accomplishments, the abuse of prescription medications is a serious problem in this country, for celebrities–sure, but it doesn't stop there.

i say do both–celebrate an original icon and confront the prescription abuse. i think it is obvious that is what the outcome will be in this unfortunate death.

therese   June 26th, 2009 10:28 pm ET

the world recognized the talent, yet judged and passed judgement on his behavior. maybe now with the focus on michael jacksons life, will we all recognize the emotional and physical pain of a brilliant man who was suffering.

Michael Jackson revealed great sadness and abuse during his childhood. That prevents any chance of normal development. Maybe now the world will understand the lifelong damage and devastation that follows.

It's tragic he was judged so harshly, when what he needed most from society was compassion, understanding and healing. Painkillers numb the pain until the kill. Profound sadness and pain needed compassion and support.

My prayers go to the family of Micheal Jackson. He was an amazing person on this earth. Now he is in a better place. God had his number just like he has ours we just don't know and should not question it. Love is what the family needs right now and not the negative responses. I have family and that is what I would need in this time of need. Send up your blessings!!!

LaTonya   June 26th, 2009 10:28 pm ET

It’s often said that part of the beauty of another’s transition is what it can help teach those who are left behind…What will we all take away from Michael's passing? Perhaps a more clear recognition that money is not the solution for a life lived with peace and joy? Perhaps a better understanding of the fact that no matter how rich or poor we are, we are all here seeking love and acceptance from each other?

And how will we spend our time now – in blame and judgment – or in gratitude for the opportunity of a better understanding of the trials of another whose life in many ways mimics our own?

Shannon   June 26th, 2009 10:28 pm ET

Michael Jackson gone. Wow. Surreal for sure.

In Grade 6 there were girls who wore one glove just like him and I had an array of buttons pinned to my jacket. I'd religiously take them off to play four square and soccer so they would not get wrecked, placing them carefully somewhere safe.

Some jackass kid still managed to run over them with his bike ...

Anyway, he was revolutionary to us as kids in '83, but fans are just fans.

I hope his kids are well cared for in the aftermath of his loss.

It grieves me to know that we concentrate on the negative about what is believed about Michaels death.its almost like you would be dissapointed if proven wrong and I hope you are but what difference does it make?please let his family go thru their grief without all the negative reports, one day you may be in their place and remmember what goes around comes around.I'm so glad we have a God that loves us in spite of,that he alone is the judge

So sad that someone so giving, loving, popular and bigger than life lived such a sad and lonely life.
In my opinion there were those who loved him and those who just misunderstood him .
So many millions of people love/d him and will never forget him.
RIP Michael

Too many deaths from prescription drugs lately. Michael MIGHT have died from this – we won't know until the toxicology reports come back, but I wouldn't be surprised. I hope that if this was the cause of his death that something will be done to help others not die from the same thing.

Joe Savini   June 26th, 2009 10:29 pm ET

I was in the front row for Elvis when he played in philly one of his last concerts i was around 10 and what sticks in my head is how bad he looked. I just can't believe nobody stepped in to help Michael he just looked unhealthy.

Mary   June 26th, 2009 10:29 pm ET

Kudos to Deepak Chopra for directing attention to the members of the medical community who overprescribe for their celebrity 'patients'. Did they learn nothing from Elvis Presley's senseless death due to a rollercoaster ride of 'uppers' and 'downers'? I also respect Dr. Drew for his stand. I can see this same end coming for one of his past "Celebrity Rehab" patients whose doctors continue to prescribe pain meds for him. Thank you, gentlemen, for speaking out on behalf of addicts who silently scream for help (through their behaviors) yet are rarely heard.

according to the 911 tape his Dr. was doing CPR while he was on the bed. Aren't you supposed to have the patient on a solid surface like the floor or a table, even the 911 operator knew that. What kind of Dr is this guy?

joanne   June 26th, 2009 10:29 pm ET

I want to know about this cardiologist that, apparently, has only been with MJ for the past 2 months while he was preparing for his upcoming tour. Sure....many folks are are on pain meds, but they aren't necessarily the cause of cardiac arrest. Who is this this guy and what was he doing with Michael? Very suspicious!!! I have a feeling that we will be hearing more about this doctor and his role in his death.

I am the same age as Michael and I grew up dreaming about marrying him one day! To say I am heartbroken is an understatement. I want to see his "personal physician" locked up for a long time. A licensed, and hopefully board certified clinician permitting a very fragile and vulnerable human being to abuse prescription drugs is unethical and criminal – period.

Anderson, great CNN coverage, we're grateful.

What will happen to Neverland? Will it be sold to cover Michael's debt? Also, if no surrogate mom comes forward and assuming Debby claims their 2 children, can she adopt Blanket too?

Neverland is the only place Michael felt at peace.
I believe his children shouldn't be robbed from growing up there. Also, the thought of children living with Michael's dad's house bothers me considering his abusive background. I hope Debby would want to and could be given all 3 childen.

I'm watching videos and TV coverage & reading about it, and still it's surreal to me. My heart is broken.

hey anderson
being a former prescription drug addict I can relate.:Life was about finding the next dose. I understand why micheal trusted people he should not have. It is not about the pain at this point but the fear of not having the next dose. I loved Micheal and I am so sorry for his family ( by the way where were they while he was escaping life.) such a loving soul is gone, but I know god needed him for love up in heaven.
and he is welcome finally there!

Jane Orr   June 26th, 2009 10:30 pm ET

I have been a clinical pharmacist working in hospitals for 30 years. Demerol is a synthetic narcotic, unlike the natural opioids which include morphine and codeine, and the semi-natural drugs heroin and hydromorphone (Dilaudid). Another synthetic narcotic is methadone. Demerol and methadone are much more dangerous in overdose than natural narcotics. These drugs have direct effects on the heart that cannot be reversed easily like the effects of morphine. In addition, "tolerance" to the cardiac effects do not develop as it does to the respiratory effects. Cardiologists unfortunately do not generally know the differences between these narcotic drugs. The cardiologist killed Michael Jackson with a Demerol overdose which stopped his heart due to its anticholinergic effects. If he gave Michael Atropine to revive him (a commonly-used cardiac stimulant), it would have made it worse because again Demerol has atropine-like effects. (The drug was developed to be an anticholinergic – it's opioid effects were discovered serendipiously.) You may truncate this, but this is what killed the man. A dumb, dumb doctor.

the death of micheal never had to happen. i know from experience about opiod addiction. a simple hernia surgery had to be redone in a 3 month period. a surgeon prescribed vicodin for 3 months because of the pain i was in. he never told me i could get hooked-i did. i went to a doctor who helped me get off. if michael received this type of help he would still be here. to many licensed pushers.

Doesn't it seem rather silly to say MJ was "afraid" he'd end up like Elvis when it's looking more and more like he purposely did the very things that killed Elvis. If the prescription drug rumors are true, clearly he was not afraid of ending up like Elvis.

Diana   June 26th, 2009 10:33 pm ET

I agree with the doctors regarding the problem with prescription drug addiction and the fine line and dilemma the doctors have in treating those in pain. Yes, one should not and can not live in pain, yet the treatment for the pain is addictive and becomes less effective. Unfortunately Michael Jackson was not alone with his problem. My husband passed away at the age of 44 and, as a 100% service related veteran, the VA prescribed him with medicine that would kill a normal person. My husband's cause of death read first due to cardio vascular disease and second due to multi drug toxicity. It would not surprise me to learn the same cause of Michael's death as I believe that it is too common of a problem. In my husband's death I say that it's happy for him because life could never be normal or happy for him living in pain, yet sad for those living. In that respect I feel the same for Michael. I can only hope that sharing these stories can some how help others and the system.

I truly think Michael Jackson was a Legend and I know im not the only one. I personally think that his private doctor had something to do with his death. I still remember when I first heard his song on the free willy soundtrack. This is soo crazy. Why do bad things happen to successful people? MJ was a legend of pop and I respect him fully. My prayer go out to his family and how his kids have to go through this traumatic experience at the young age that they are in.

RIP MICHAEL JACKSON...

Mark Brooklyn, NY   June 26th, 2009 10:33 pm ET

Mr. Anderson I respect you and other reporters for your profession of reporting accross every spectrum. However, Michael left a tremendous legacy and the focus I think, should be on his musical talents. Look at Monroe, Elvis and others that had shaddy back grounds but such a focus was not placed on then so early after death.

Tany Walker   June 26th, 2009 10:33 pm ET

I will never forget my father gathering my family around the television to watch MTV for Michael Jackson's video music premiers. It was an event in our home. JC Chaves from NSync said on MTV yesterday that Michael's music was like the soundtrack in our lives.
It is so true, I have so many memories where his music is present when I was growing up.
I would never say that I was his biggest fan, but I was a fan and his death fills me with a great sadness and feeling of loss for such a phenomenal artist. I am so broken by his passing but I know he has gone onto a better place, one where people will not judge him or call him "Wacko Jacko." He should be remembered for being a great humanitarian, an extradinary entertainer, and a loving father.
May he rest in peace. Michael Jackson "Gone to soon."

As I watch the CNN coverage about this tragedy, I find it disheartening that close friends and members of the entertainment industry want to suppress discussion about the possible cause of death to Michael Jackson. It is clearly evident that drug abuse/misuse persists in this industry. While the facts still need to be gathered, I applaud Deepak Chopra for his disclosures relative to medical malpractice. It is so unfortunate that a major tragedy had to occur before this information was divulged to a vast audience. We can only hope that there will be a thorough investigation into these allegations.

hi, bloggers. surreal day #2

i did have a great moment just outside our offices earlier, though. on my way to an appt, i heard MJ blaring from a car. i looked around trying to find the source – i thought initially it was a cab - and realized it was a coupld of guys in a van, rocking out, arms dancing out the window, singing at the top of their lungs. i couldn't help but smile, they saw me and told me to sing along.

for all the sadness in his life, MJ brought a lot of joy through his music and united people across so many barriers – tough to ignore that

Mike, Syracuse, NY   June 26th, 2009 10:35 pm ET

i am totally distraught about this, i'm really loved him...i grieve for michael like he was my own flesh and blood. the death is just so sudden, its really hard to deal with right now. i grew up adoring and admiring him, through all his battles and happiness i felt as if i was right there with him, understanding all that went on. and knowing his death may have been due to lack of appropriate interventions that should have occured long time ago is just sad. i stayed up all night last night just watching all that the media had to offer concerning him... i really love hearing his songs and watching the videos....apart of me died yesterday and my life will never be the same

Joe, LA   June 26th, 2009 10:35 pm ET

Nope, no friends and family were getting drugs for him. They wouldn't do that.

He had to have had people on the payroll whose job it was to keep him "happy" and "comfortable".

It's amazing how easy it is for people with money and fame to get prescriptions, no questions asked.

Not only did he change music as we know it, but he did changed the world by touching so many people. He gave back like no other. He loved the world, and the world will forever love him. I just hope his legacy will move us enough to help others from going down the same path.

Hi Anderson,
About the family doctor, what is the latest? I just don't understand why the 'family doctor', the person who was with Michael at his death did not stay at the hospital and talk to police. There were reports that he left to go to Las Vegas, then he came back to California. What in the world would be more important than providing clarification of what happened for all to know???

Sandy CT   June 26th, 2009 10:36 pm ET

The world has lost perhaps one of its greatest artists and all are saddened by this. It is such a shame that now is the time that all the "strange" behavior in his life has to come to light. Let the family mourn in peace. There will be plenty of time to find all the facts surrounding this terrible tragedy. Let the poor man rest in peace.

Seems like people speculate unfairly about a lot of things.

It's a shame that Dr. Drew is right about the problem of doctors who continue to issue scripts for patients that they know are abusing.

it's really something how the death of a great person is bringing so many people around the world together

Lisa   June 26th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

First My Deepest Sympathy to the Jackson Family.
During the show Dr. Drew and another physician were talking about the problesm with perscribed medicaitation, it's addictions and how hard it is to be policed. I worked in the medical fied and it's not hard. If the patient is insured the the insurance company has a record of medicationsbeing perscribed and how often. In the case of Hollywoods famous I don't know how these medications are obtained, but if the local pharmacy fills them they also have records of medications and patient information and frequencyof refills. It's not that hard. Some states require that class3 medication be dispenceed to the patient only, and with verification and proper photo ID. People just need to do their jobs and maybe some lives will be saved.

R.I.P. Mike

It is a sad time when a man of this nature is being remembered for the drama and not the talent. I'm sure, however, that if you travel the world tonight, you will find many of the loyal fans that are remembering the talent and not the media surrounding him. He managed to bridge other countries in ways that no other has. He has been recognized around the world for greatness and his loyalty to those he loved. Not only did he influence the world around him while he was here, but I am sure that the world will always remember him for the man he was. The King of Pop. May his family find peace during this tragic time.

Gary   June 26th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

Michael Jackson will be missed. His music bridged the gap between races. He was the World's Greatest Entertainer. Rip Michael.

Roibbie Shenton (Brisbane Australia)   June 26th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

Hi Anderson

Growing up as a teen i remember trying to emulate his moonwalk and would show of to my friends or thinking it was cool to walk around with one glove just to be like my hero Michael Jackson.

Regardless of what has happened over the last few years with his numerous court appearances i liked Michael Jackson for his music and one song that really stands out in my mind was a song he co wrote with Lionel Ritchie called we are the world" which raised millions of dollars for the starving children in Africa.

Elvis Presley was the King of Rock and Roll and now another King has left the building.

Michael Jackson the King of Pop may he rest in peace.

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   June 26th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

IMO, "Off the Wall" was the best Michael Jackson CD.

Sheree   June 26th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

Good evening Anderson Cooper! Thank you for such great coverage of Michael Jackson. You always do such a good, non-biased job. You are much appreciated!

Tina   June 26th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

When will we stop losing such talented celebrities to over medication? Perhaps this type of focus will help others, including the average everyday person that has the same struggles

Patrick   June 26th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

Interested in some highlight on these so called leaches and vampires who surrounded Jackson. Also interested in this group of doctors in Hollywood who provide prescription to drugs to stars.

Junior   June 26th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

Now that Michael Jackson has passed, I would want to know what his most current religious status/views were?

Ashley   June 26th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

I would like to pay my respects to the Jackson family, friends and fans. There will never be another man on earth that accomplish the many things that Michael Jackson has done and he will be truly missed. His music lives on forever!

Chastina   June 26th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

I don't even know what to say. I am confused and just wish that the toxicology reports would come back soon...that way all of these rumors would stop...and we would know the real cause of his death! I don't think it will matter though. I don't think anything can tarnish his legacy!!

Paula, Colorado   June 26th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

Anderson,
Hi!
I hope answers about Michael Jackson's death come sooner rather than later.
–It's strange to have the week end in sudden, collective mourning. The tributes are very touching.

Madina, Phoenix   June 26th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

Michael Jackson helped break down unbreakable barriers for African American musicians world wide. At this time we should be remembering a loving and caring mans life that was taken from us to soon. The drugs and other accusations can wait for now we remember and pray for his family and friends who lost such a great man who can never ever be replaced. We love and miss you Michael

Kelly - Harrisburg, PA   June 26th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

I've been watching a bunch of the videos and trbute shows and didn't realize how great an entertainer he really was. Still have the Thriller album in a box at my mom's house. Must have listened to it 1,000 times.

It sounds like a lot of people latched on to MJ to feed themselves from his talent. I do wonder where all these celebrites who are "so heartbroken" were over the last few years. Maybe we should take a lesson.. if you think a friend or family member needs a helping hand, reach out now, don't put it off.

leslie   June 26th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

musical genius. misunderstood soul. rest in peace. you will be missed but left wonderful songs to help us never forget you!

Carrie from Tn   June 26th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

Michael knowing his death would come like the King of Rock and Roll-Elvis is very sad...could this have been a planned form of self destruction? Michael is a true legand and will be truley missed.

Joel (Tokyo)   June 26th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

Watching Michael's "We are the World" video this mornig brought tears to my eyes. The world has lost an incredible talent. Whatever we think about Michael Jackson as a man, we can't detract from the gifts he gave us as a performer and artist.

tom   June 26th, 2009 10:37 pm ET

I am sickened & saddened by the death of Michael Jackson. Saddened because we lost a great entertainer. Sickened because all his friends say he was under stress and using prescription drugs. My question is: If they were his friend, why didn't someone step up and get this person some much needed help? I feel he would still be with us if only someone stepped up to help him. Tom

A. Kennedy   June 26th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

The death of Michael Jackson is not only a tragic event for his close friends and family but also for the world. Having grown up with Thriller on my portable cassette player as a child, I can only hope that the public, fans or not, remember him for what he did not only for music and dance but also for humanity around the world. Without Michael, the face of music and video would NOT be what it was today. Like Elvis, The Beatles and many before him, he was a legendary artist and a icon that brought forth a way of being to some. He paved the way for many African-American artists after him, and for hip-hop and R+B artists today.

Like many fans, I am completely devastated with his death and will continue to cherish what he did for the music and video industry.

Richard Horton   June 26th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

I am 48 years old and what I remember most when MTV began was Michael Jackson and the brilliant, vibrant, exceptional videos he performed to his music.

Kellie   June 26th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

It just sickens me how anyone could let this happen. It is so easy to get addicted to painkillers, as I had been addicted physically in the past after surgery. It is really the doctor's responsibility to monitor the patient's condition and to give the correct dosage IF AND ONLY IF the medicine is truly needed. I am in complete shock.

Leah   June 26th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

Good evening Anderson....Michael Jackson had a rough life. All of the bad that took place should not over shadow the good that he did. There is going to be a lot of accusations coming out now that he has passed. Thats a shame. Lets allow him to rest in peace and give his family time to go through whatever it is that need to go through,

Barbara   June 26th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

Dr.Gupta is so wright about the Dr`s in the U.S. I live in Indiana and it happens every day. So many people on meds thay don`t need. Thay are killing people off day after day...Something needs to be done. God be with the Jackson family.

Huston Singletary   June 26th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

Good evening Anderson.

I can only imagine the discerning news that may lie ahead once the autopsy reports are revealed. Drug use is an obvious and strong possibility. It saddens me that he could have spiraled into such an out of control level so close to re-emerging into a new era of his life.

Russell   June 26th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

yes did you guys listen to the 911 call realy good it was a yung latino boy i say 19 to 23 on the phone with the 911 who was he an why was he calling not the dr. if the dr. was the only one with him

Deb in SoCal   June 26th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

No doctor is going to sign a death certificate when it's not clear how he died. A 50 year-old man with no history of heart disease, diabetes, or hypertension? I wouldn't sign it if I were the ER doc either. If a doc can't definitively tell at the time he's pronounced at the hospital (like a gun shot wound, for example), the doc won't sign it and wait for the M.E.

Daniel Washington   June 26th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

Well I'm concerned about the things Mike owned and his awards. I understand that the things were about to auctioned early this year. It would have been a shame if that happened. The depression of also being $500 million in the red could have played a factor in his stressful life. For the respect of Mike, it would be nice if charity concert tours be done is honor and the things that make since should be put in a musuem in his honor. His items should not be sitting in someone's house.

Maria   June 26th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

Hi. I'm watching from the Philippines. I was really saddened by the news of passing of the King of Pop. I was just searching the internet for the photos of his children and for once, I saw it here at CNN. I hope his children will be in good hands.

Dorothy   June 26th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

Keep up your phenomenal work, Anderson. You are in a class by yourself. About Michael Jackson's death – it seems famous, rich people can always find a doctor to give them what they want in the way of meds/pills – sad really....

Joanne   June 26th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

Has anyone said what caused his skin to change color? I've always wondered.

Michael   June 26th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

Michael Jackson in our time was a prophet through his music, he was loved he was a prohet and was crucified yet through it all he showed the power of LOVE and he LIVES

Pam Bailey   June 26th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

why did the Doctor preform CPR on the bed instead of moving him to a hard surface li?ke the floor? Shouldn't the Doctor know to do this

People need to let this man rest in peace. If you feel the need to judge, start with the person in "the mirror" then you can start to judge others.

christian(24),erie-pa   June 26th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

nothing makes sense as to a doctor being with him in the morning when a couple hours earlier he was with freinds rehearsing, eating, & enjoying life as the king.did michael jackson call the doctor? liza mentioned the previous night michael was complaining about chest pain.who was with him around that time? i still cant believe one of my favorite idols of all-time is gone..just listening to his voice i feel what he was going thru as a young boy growing to an adult to a father!!!we will always love him...

Anderson -
Does anyone know when in particular he died? According to other sources, the paramedics wanted to declare him dead upon arrival but his personal doctor wouldn't allow it. In the 911 call, he was apparently in bed. Is it possible that he had died in his sleep?

Deborah   June 26th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

After watching and listening to CNN for 24 hours I am still in shock. The Dr. was wrong he should have called 9-1-1 first then started CPR. Rest in Peace Mj.

Just wanted to mention that in IN and KY, where I practice as an Emergency Medicine Physician, we do have access to online databases called Inspect and Kasper. These give us almost instant info if a pt has been doctor shopping for prescriptions meds. I am sure that most of the more advanced US states have similar databases.

starr formerly known as vincent   June 26th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

It's really easy to overdose if you are using pills & Injectable narcotics.

Pills are designed to last over a period of time (Nomral Vicodin 4-6 hrs.) Some pills/patches are time released over a 23 hrs.

Injectable meds, especaily something as strong a Demerol acts almost immediately. If it is combined with pills (even time released kind), the person is receiving a huge dose of meds all at once!

Tinesha   June 26th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

Mike is the greatest of the past present and future. Not just the king of pop, but the king of music, period. there isn't an artist in history that has done what he's done, or that has transcended race like mike. Not elvis, not the beatles, no one. Mike was his music, and his music was full of love, messages of hope and healing, and ultimate swagger. I LOVE YOU MIKE, my Idol.

HI Anderson,
I will only watch your coverage of Michael Jackson, you are real! I am equally confused by the actions of the doctor, if he was a cardiologist why was he so flustered, i really don't it. It is such a sad day for our world to lose an amazing man. Bye Michael!!

Amber   June 26th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

Michael was a hero to all. He will live in our hearts and our childrens hearts and their childrens hearts. We lost a true legend. June 25, 2009 will be a day we will always remember where we were when we heard the news of MJ's death. He will be missed.

Jennifer   June 26th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

Such a sad week....for me...3 people from my childhood are sadly gone.....Ed was awesome..I would pretend sleep to here my mom click on Johnny every night only to hear.."heerre's Johnny" Farrah..WOW...my older brother had her posters plastered on his bedroom wall. Now Michael...I had his posters on my wall... I practiced my moonwalk and sang and danced to his music...he truly was awesome!! Now Heaven has just gained a comedian, an angel, and a KING..that will forever walk on the moon!

Tiffany   June 26th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

Watching Michael Jackson perform made me feel as though I could be anything. He spreads joy and raises the hair on my skin. Watching this news has brought on a rainbow of emotions. I'm sad one moment and rejoice at his talent the next. There are millions of fans appreciating his being more than ever before. No one can touch him. I send my love to his family. May the 'King of Pop' rest in peace.

Elizabeth   June 26th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

I came of age in Mississippi just as Thriller began to receive airplay. At the most popular dance club in our rural little town, white and black young adults came together on the dance floor to groove to Billie Jean. Michael Jackson bridged racial divides in more ways than people have yet considered.

christine morrissey   June 26th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

wow i dont no what to say i have seen people say bad things and good things i have my thoughts on what might have happend to him but i dont no if i should say it but i will say this or should i say ask this ..why has no one talked to the doctor that was with michael why has that not happend yet everyone should be wanting to talk to him to find out what happend to michael b4 they called 911 ..

Kartik Saraf   June 26th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

rip michael jackson. he was the greatest.

Christian Fricke   June 26th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

I wonder how many times the name of Michael Jackson has been uttered in the last 24 hours—so sad that it is only now it is uttered with respect another case of not appreciating someone until they are gone.

Sharon Hastings   June 26th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

Liza Minelli said that when the autopsy comes back then everything will explode. But what will it tell us that we haven't heard before? That someone abused medication? That someone had doctors who prescribed too much of it? That this wound up in a death? You can pick up the paper every day and read this. In my town we have recently had 3 physicians convicted and sentenced for this. If you read about what they did (one delivered to people's houses) then you certainly wouldn't be surprised about Michael.

Tiffany Davis   June 26th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

I just cant believe this

Amber   June 26th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

I think that the "doctor" drugged him up. And the 911 call you notice the caller just kept studdering like he was nervous about something besides Michael's heartattack. Anyway R.I.P Michael

Camille   June 26th, 2009 10:39 pm ET

Good night Anderson.

I'm sitting here and still can't believe he's gone. Michael Jackson is was a beautiful human being who committed his life to make us happy, even at the expense of his own happiness.

To all his fans of which I am one forever, don't cry because it's over...smile because it happened.

R.I.P. MJ. You're always in our hearts.

Sherrie Filliater   June 26th, 2009 10:40 pm ET

Charity   June 26th, 2009 10:40 pm ET

~Erica and Anderson..It is clearly understood that prescription drugs was a part of Michael Jackson's social life. My question is who in the world did Michael Jackson hang around?

michellem75   June 26th, 2009 10:40 pm ET

I don't understand these Dr.s, they are suppose to help people, but these Celeb Dr.s are making things worse, for not only the celebs, but for their families. These Dr.s must think these celebs have family that just don't care... Well guess what? They do care. I'd like to ask these Dr.s.. How would you feel if someone were taking the life of your child? Would you think it's ok for someone to help your child stay addicted? I don't think so...Please you must understand, from the heart of a mother..It hurts and it hurts worse to lose your child. I think all these Dr.s who give prescriptions to the celebs should be held RESPONSIBLE! My heart goes out to Michael Jacksons children and his family..Michael might be gone now, but never forgotten..

Jill   June 26th, 2009 10:40 pm ET

Michael Jackson was human – just because people want to talk about his possible problem with prescription drugs doesn't take away from his successes. It helps us understand why such a tragic thing happened. He was incredible – a huge part of my teen years. RIP Michael... your soul will finally get to play and rest. Many blessings to his family and friends...

Tiki   June 26th, 2009 10:40 pm ET

Simply king of pop! uncompareable, his music will never die! he will always be in my heart. I just remember when i was a little kid(early 90's) people in my village talking about him how great he was, we didn't even have tv's back than in the village of albania i lived in, just imagine how popular he is/was...May you rest in peace, and god bless his family!!love from albania, europe!!!

I know Michael Jackson was very close to Janet Jackson, so far I have not heard nothing about Janet throughout the past couple of days. Has anything been heard about or from Janet?

Charica   June 26th, 2009 10:40 pm ET

I'm so sad Michael Jackson is really gone. I didn't get a chance to see him when he had a concert in Manila in the 1990s.

I truly could not believe the tragic news of Michael's death. I was literally stunned. He is definitely a major icon that will continue to impact our lives forever!

Becky   June 26th, 2009 10:40 pm ET

Michael Jackson was a great performer and i really looked up to him. His loss was very devastating. I really idolized him and I grew up listening to his music. When I heard of his death I tried to fight back the tears and I just knew that it wasn't true. Love and prayers to his family.

Michelle   June 26th, 2009 10:40 pm ET

The best thing that could come of all of this is that it's uniting a lot of people through his music, which is something I think he really would've loved. It's so great to see so many of his fans out dancing and singing in the streets all over the world. It's tragic and so sad, but we're all remembering him with joy and reliving happy times when he touched our lives. R.I.P Michael.

Michelle D . Fonthill. Ont   June 26th, 2009 10:40 pm ET

Maybe the 360 team should dance to Micheal's songs
@Anderson won't you dance or wave your arms in the air to the beat of the great songs?

Dorothy   June 26th, 2009 10:40 pm ET

Thanks for sharing that, Erica. I have a feeling that scenes like that are common throughout the world. MJ's music just made you want to move your feet and sing along.

Patricia   June 26th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

The Los Angeles authorities must do something about those celebrities Dr who don't respect people live by prescribing drugs they know is going to kill them. You the captain and they the passenger ,you in control not them. Money is evil.

Nicholas   June 26th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

Erica- It is amazing how someone who started so long ago...who's biggest hit was in 84 the year that my friends and I were born. Yet he has an influence on my generation that can not be controlled. Today in Rio de Janeiro (downtown), suddenly, a man crossing a major avenue started to dance like Michael Jackson!

It was so nice, so spontaneous ... some people applauded and others were just looking

nikki S   June 26th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

After hearing the 911 tape I am concerned. Any doctor should know to put a person on a hard flat surface before performing CPR. You cannot do effective CPR on a mattress/bed. This man should be questioned....
May the world continue to offer SUPPORT to the family and his children. I am a fan and will keep his memory alive for my own children.

Dan S.   June 26th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

I have always wondered about Michael over the years, but had he ever been evaluated psychiatrically

Jeannie Kennedy, Mantua New Jersey   June 26th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

Why did this Doctor not have the drug narcan, and administer it to Michael at the first sign of respiratory distress? Narcan reverses the affect of opiates if there is an overdose.

Lu   June 26th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

Today has been a sad day. I grew up watching Michael Jackson videos and listening to his music. I guess I thought he would be around forever. What a devastating loss for his family and children. I know there was so much negative about him portrayed by the media in recent years, but that shouldn't overshadow who he was above all....a human being, a son, brother, and dad. A legend......that will be truly missed.

Jessica   June 26th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

MJ is the reason for my love of dance.
No one will ever compare. A true man of his craft!
We are now celebrating his life in my home tonight and for days to come by singing and dancing to his sweet sounds!
May God give him peace at last.

Jodi-Ann   June 26th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

Michael Jackson touched everyone, and here in Jamaica tonight we join in the world wide mourning of a phenomenal, influential and artistic individual. His race, is a minor detail, as our national motto says , 'Out of Many One People'.

Jamie   June 26th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

I need to say it again – the FDA needs to regulate narcotic medications better!!!!!

Elizabeth   June 26th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

I am deeply sadden for Michael family and I feel like I have lost a family member. I am so grief stricken. I love MJ from the time he started his career. I was overwhelm by his genius. I could careless about the ramification of his use/or misuse of drug, because as God fearing person, I believe he went thru so much and he did what he was put here to do. He brought us together in his life and for one day he brought us together again. Love U Michael

I wonder if the nanny has any legal rights to be able to continue visits with the kids if she does not keep custody?

They must be scared about where they'll end up.

Tali   June 26th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

Mr. AC – What do you make about Ms. Presley's comments regarding the people surrounding MJ?

Tori   June 26th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

I am so very sad. This is absolutely un-real, I hoped when I woke up this morning it would have all been just a terrible nightmare. We have lost such a talented person, I wish everyone could see what we have lost. I've always been one of his many number one fans. I can't stop crying, my heart is broken. RIP MJ You will live on forever in our hearts. May God Bless and comfort your children at this difficult time. I am praying for them.

therese   June 26th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

Many children who are abused escape through artistic expression. Survivors in adulthood often long for a different childhood, identity, and numb their lifetime of pain with chemical addictions. Billie Holiday is another example.

We can only hope that Michael Jackson no longer feels the emotional pain and sadness that followed him throughout life. Maybe now he has peace.

renee'   June 26th, 2009 10:41 pm ET

Mr. Cooper, This is so heart breaking for my generation! (I am in my 40's) I feel like a piece of my childhood has just been taken away from me! I am so sad for his children, his family, his fans. My prayers are with them all!

Alicia from Trinidad   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

The pain of knowing he's not here with us anymore just cannot be comprehended. My heart is overwhelmed with grief! It's very unfortunate that he didn't get to perform the one last time he promised to....the last time to have a second chance at life.

Heather - Spokane, WA   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

I heard a mother and her son talking today at the grocery store and they were talking about Michael Jackson’s death. The little boy said that he knew why he died and the mom asked why. He said that God needed help learning how to dance and that his moonwalk was rusty

Hello, I would like to call Michael, an homage to the music. He change the history of music and change a lot of people, all I ever wanted was to see michael performing, but now this dream has become imposible. I regret to this fact. But this is life. God bless michael and his family. Thanks and we'll never forget you.

Lisa   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

My dad always used to say 'everyone loves you when you're dead.' Michael Jackson seemed to be 2 different people– a fantastic talent and a very troubled person.

Keon. J, Miami FL   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

Hi AC 360 I would like to share my grievances with the Jackson family and hope well for his kids

Caryn   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

It is such a heartbreak to know the Pop Icon I grew up listening to is gone. I know he is resting peacefully now.... Who cares about his personal life. It's none of our business.... All that matters is him and his music which was such a wonderful blessing for us all. I wish the best for Michael's children and the rest of his family..... RIP MJ.

Michelle D . Fonthill. Ont   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

There will never be another artist like him again not even close .They all try to copy him but it jsut doesn't comapre.

sandra   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

I have seen people be drugged out on meds, I believe compassion is in order for Michael. Unfortunately his staff dropped the ball. Shame on them.

Sophia West Virginia   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

I was sad yesterday upon hearing of Micheal's sudden death. Today I am angry that yet another celebrity has died due to prescription drugs. I hope Micheal's troubled soul is finally at peace.

Jan (North Carolina)   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

Jackson was like a rainbow. You always saw something great about him every time he made an appearance. He was very intricate with different aspects, like the colors and spectrum of the rainbow. The way he shined intrigued everyone, and when he would sing it took us away. But, like a rainbow....you always wondered what lies at the end of it!

Anna   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

I'm very sad to learn of Michael Jackson's sudden death. It is a shock indeed. My heart goes out to his family.

Anna, Toronto, ON

Dawn   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

Hi Anderson let's treat Michael with the same respect. He saw the good in everything. My deepest sympathy to his family. He will be missed, but he will live on in music, videos. He will never be forgotten.

nancy   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

Has anyone heard anything about the reaction of Janet Jackson? She and Michael always seemed very close.

Susie   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

Good evening –

When I was in the 5th grade, many years ago I sang Michael's song "Ben" solo in front of everyone to try and get picked to sing with the teachers on stage..... Mmmm, I won that day using his song..
RIP Michael Jackson...

Greg   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

MJ was truly a gift from God! He brought us such joy and was a spectacular entertainer during his time on earth! Now he can entertain those above!

Sande   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

Many of the people, if I may call them peple, who surrounded Michael Jackson did not really care about him, that is what made him so lonely and sad, but they were all he had. Where were all the people he ment so much too, where were all those who considered him such a beautiful person? Where were they hiding until his demise? Why didn't they protect him from those leeches? Why didn't his brothers and sisters protect him from those devils???

Michelle   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

That cardiologist, when found should be charged with mallpractice, neglience and murder. Any MD should know if you give an narcotic you should have an antagonist available which would instantly reverse the effect of an narcotic should there be adverse effects.

Stacey   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

Anderson – last night you mentioned MJ's performance during Montown's 25th anniversary show. I too remember that performance foldly. I am amazed that during all the coverage and different clips I haven't seen that one. Do you know if that will be shown any time soon? Maybe I missed it. MJ will be missed, May God hold his family close during their mourning.

Jacqueline, NY   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

...Also, Anderson, you mentioned last night that at the time when you went to Studio 54 with the Pop King that you didn't even know who he was... I'm sorry, but I'm having trouble comprehending that.

Brenda S, Ms   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

I love Michael Jackson. I will continue to tell my children about the great times I had listening to his songs while growing up as a teenager and even now as I am an adult. I love to see him dance. I miss him greatly.

Barbara   June 26th, 2009 10:42 pm ET

I share Lisa Marie's and Michaels families experience of trying to save a loved one from themself and having to step far enough away to protect yourselves and the children from the insanity of living with an untreated addict and all the games they play to justify why they won't accept proper help. Abuse is generational and even though their isn't evidence he physically abused his children, their will be severe affects on their emotional development living with a parent who was drugged so much of the time. Blaming his childhood was another tactic to not get honest with himself. I was an abused child and came to understand it was my responsibility to have the buck stop with me and not perpetuate it into another generation.

miesha   June 26th, 2009 10:43 pm ET

All the things michael jackson havedone with music and everything people are still going back to him and little boys and the drugs the men is dead let him rest for sometime the men is not even in the ground stop guessing what happen to this poor men let his famliy miss him and love what he left behind lets look at what he did to help to make this worldbetter instead of what he did wrong R.I.P Michael Jackson and god bless his family

John   June 26th, 2009 10:43 pm ET

Anderson, the news of Michaels death has sent shockwaves throughout the world. I honestly believe he is the Elvis of the new generation. Remember where you were when you heard Michael died...its going to be up there with JFK. Contraversy aside he was truly a great artist. From John watching the show in Ireland

Sujit   June 26th, 2009 10:43 pm ET

He is so different from all of us.........great Performer and a kind person. If u guys havent seen his documentary...Living with Micheal Jackson by Martin Bashir........Martin sometimes during the docum-y portrayes MJ as weired but if u look deep and try to understand him......he is the nicest person u would ever see and he is so innocent and pure.

May God rest his soul in peace

roland   June 26th, 2009 10:43 pm ET

why the media is not focusing on the doctor that was at the house when MJ dies?

Vernon Pressey   June 26th, 2009 10:43 pm ET

I only want to comment on the class and dignity Lisa Marie has been showing throughout what must be a tough time for her too.

Alex10   June 26th, 2009 10:43 pm ET

I personally think the Doctor may have something to do with the death of MJ, because of the way he act after it happened. if he didn't do anything wrong he didn't have to act like that.

Sharine   June 26th, 2009 10:43 pm ET

I want to know when will the lab reports from the hospital be released? There should been a drug and tox screen drawn during emergency resusitation. this is commonly done in order to treat or reverse the effects.

Michelle D . Fonthill. Ont   June 26th, 2009 10:43 pm ET

Why didn't the doctor help him and why did that person who was at the house call 911 when the doctor was right there ?

Paola   June 26th, 2009 10:43 pm ET

Good evening Anderson and everyone. I come here to speak in the name of all brazilian fans of Michael Jackson. I still can't believe in his death, just can't!
Brazil sends its condolences for the loss of The King, The Real Entertainer.

Karen   June 26th, 2009 10:43 pm ET

I blasted the MJ tunes playing from my car radio, as I drove so reluctantly to work this a.m. With tears pouring down my face and the biggest lump in my throat – did I belt out at the top-of-my-lungs and sang along with michael just one more time!!

Michael G. Williams   June 26th, 2009 10:43 pm ET

I have been a fan of Michael Jackson since I was three years old, when I first heard the song Enjoy Yourself. My favorite song by him will always be Don't Stop Til You Get Enough. His death did come as a surprise, and I am still shocked and sad. We should remember the good things (not the bad) about Michael Jackson. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fans. May he forever rest in peace.

Just wanted to say that as a musician and entertainer he was increadible and at these hours after his death that is what we should be focused on..

David   June 26th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

How could he have died like that

Bev   June 26th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

I feel for all the people close to Micheal and have heard many testimonies from many of his famous friends of their love and sadness of his passing but one person who has keep silent during this is Oprah. I wonder why such a vocal , prominent member of the famous has not weighed in on this tragedy.

Labeat Susuri   June 26th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

Michael Jackson Dead , but with him dead pop music , all singers in 21 th century was best , but he was best of best .. let's pray for him soul , we know his soul is in paradise , but his music will stay on world for milions years ..

Richard RIzo   June 26th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

As a young performer, i have been heavily inspired by Michael. As a kid of 5 years old,my family remembers how i used to sing and dance all the michael jackson songs. Last night on my way to a gig,one of my fellow musicians broke the news. I couldnt believe it. I still cant accept that he's gone. I thought he would live forever. Last night i performed "dont stop till u get enough' and dedicated that special performance to michael in front of the crowd. We'll miss u MIke. I know you are in heaven teaching God how to moonwalk!

Sandra   June 26th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

I think his childhood scared him. I think he was never able to get over not having a normal childhood. It ceated the phobias and his ecentric persona in the man we came to know as The King of Pop.

Roxanne   June 26th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

People have to remember that M.J. did not have a childhood. He was a boy in a grown man's body and everything he did was a result of the lack of childhood that he had. Now is the time, more than ever, to be empathetic towards him. He was a great entertainer and made many happy with his music and the world took it for granted that inside he was going through his own personal pain. He can now rest and finally find peace. My only hope is that his family has the privacy to mourn in peace.

Rebecka   June 26th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

Up to this moment I am still in shock, I have never met Michael Jackson but I find myself crying and can't stop wondering what exactly happened. From the beginning of this week I was talking about M.J. BET asked a question saying who would you take to the BET awards and why? I commented and said "@106andpark I would bring out Micheal Jackson because he is bad and we know it!" I love him and always will Rest in Peace!

Heidi   June 26th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

I was at home with my two teenage boys when I heard the news come across the T.V. about Michael tears filled in my eyes, while my boys looked at me gazed. They have only heard the negative things in the past few years. Michael was my heart throb growing up in my teen age years while his face covered my walls from floor to ceiling. I told my boys to forget the negative and listein to my music and videos from Michael. Now we are all mourning the death of Michael. So god bless his family and Michael you have gained a couple more fans.

Deborah   June 26th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

I'm so sad about the death of Michael Jackson and I'm sickened by his so called friends who are being interviewed (even in his death increasing their own notoriety) who are not being honest about what they knew about his mental illness and drug abuse. Only Depak Chopra had the honestly and love for him to be sincere about the topic. Sadly and ironically Michael was right when he feared that no one really loved him unconditionally. The only people who had access to him and could have helped him, sat back and watched while he slowly went over the edge. And now they have the nerve to deny he had problems because they don't want to be help accountable. Or they point fingers in judgment of those being truthful, claiming that talk of drug use is cheap media thrills and in some way will tarnish Jackson's legacy by talking about it openly. They say all they want to talk about is the positive and anything else is disrespectful. Well, in my opinion their denial of reality is exactly the denial of the actual person Michael Jackson was and proves that they are not his friends because they won't accept that. If they would have talked about it openly a long time ago, he would likely be alive today, making great music and thrilling audiences around the world. Truly sick and a disgrace.

Barbara   June 26th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

My heart goes our to the family of Micheal, especially his children. How many more icons and celebrities will we loose to the drug world and the un-professional doctors of Hollywood....It is time for this to stop!

Elaine   June 26th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

I was listening to the comment about MJ being a man at the age of 5 and a chile at the age of 50...made me think of how when we get older they say we start reverting back to our childhood...maybe that was why he got the Neverland and hung around kids and all...a desperate attempt to use that money to get something he never had....but it also reminded me of "Rosebud" - the final words of Citizen Kane. He had an unhappy childhood to and all his wealth could not bring him the happiness he had needed as a child. I hope we take this lesson to learn how to allow our children to value their childhood and to be able to look back on them with glad memories. If the childhood years have passed, a parent should make amends with their child, admit their mistakes and try to make up to them whatever their needs may be.

gino.   June 26th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

i really hope that the police will come down hard on those doctor's who are facilitating the actors with the prescription drugs. I heard they're running wild.

Brian Keller,Tx   June 26th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

I remember seeing Michael perform at the halftime show, Superbowl 28 Jan.28th,1993 in Pasadena, California. He put on a awesome show! The guy will definately be remembered! Very talented! Michael will be missed!

Tiffany   June 26th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

Watching Michael Jackson perform made me feel as though I could be anything. He spreads joy and raises the hair on my skin. Watching this news has brought on a rainbow of emotions. I'm sad one moment and rejoice at his talent the next. There are millions of fans appreciating his being more than ever before. I send my love to his family. May the ‘King of Pop’ rest in peace. xoxo

Dan S.   June 26th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

Psychiatric problems could have contributed to his use of medications and ultimately his death. I don't want to cast aspersions and dont hold any stigma towards people with problems, as everyone has problems, but had psychiatric issues ever been evaluated or addressed.

Dave, Cortland, NY   June 26th, 2009 10:44 pm ET

Prayers to Michaels family..a Son, Father,Brother...a hard time for all that loved him. His lifetime of beautiful memories that he gave us will forever be kept in our hearts.

Hi Anderson

The world has lost a legend and I want to express my condolenses to his family, friends, and well wishers. Gone too soon.

Lynn G. Hermitage, TN   June 26th, 2009 10:45 pm ET

Hi Erica – I am one of those boomers who picked my son up from camp and sat in my driveway in the car with my 12 year old son today blasting Michael Jackson singing lead on the Jackson 5 song, ABC. My son watched me go from "Mom" to a nostalgic old lady (50) bouncing and singing along with the radio. And guess what??? My son joined in and we sang and danced together (and he even knew all the words too)!! I don't want to ever loose that feeling I shared with my son today. That is the only time since learning of Michael's death that I had tears in my eyes.

karen   June 26th, 2009 10:45 pm ET

curious as to why michael jackson's personal physician, living with him no less, is a cardiologist, could there possibly have been an underlying heart disease?

Anja   June 26th, 2009 10:46 pm ET

If there was someone providing MJ w/meds & it contributed to his death, then there should be justice. However, if this is not the case, I hope that everyone will let it go & not look for conspiracies around every corner. For his Children & Family let him RIP. The peace he couldn't fine in life, let him have in his death

Carole Valpone   June 26th, 2009 10:46 pm ET

I grew up with Michael Jackson, watching the Jackson's cartoon and dancing with my friends to ABC. My son was born in 1984 and he also grew up with Michael Jackson and my son and I danced to his tunes. What great times. It is such a great loss. His music brought so much joy to my life any to the World. RIP

Benita   June 26th, 2009 10:46 pm ET

I'm amazed at the fact that everyone has a personal story to tell about an encounter with MJ. Most not face to face, lol.

Turhan   June 26th, 2009 10:46 pm ET

Michael Jackson influenced me as a child to the point to where I used to perform against friends, family and others in dance competitions. I immulated the entire "Beat It" video in my house and even had the squiggle of hair down my forehead. Michael was more than an entertainer...he was a "no limit entertaining genius" who was limited by others.

We will continue loving you Michael! You won't be missed but remembered.

Jessica M   June 26th, 2009 10:46 pm ET

I am so completely devistated with Michael Jackson's death. I'm still in denial that a music icon that I have known & enjoyed for as long as I can remember is gone. It's enraging to know that nothing was done to control the amounts of drugs he was putting into himself. I keep waiting for someone to say "Just kidding, he's alright!", but it's not going to happen. Michael Jackson, dispite what he may or maynot have done in his personal life, was a milestone man. He was more then an icon, idol, or legend...he WAS history, for the entire world. My heart goes out to his loved ones. We miss him already, Love him deeply, & he will *never* be forgotten. Rest Your Soul, Michael.

Q Michael – Syracuse

It is not so easy to go to many doctors anymore. Both the doctors, but especially the pharmacies are on the "watch" for the common culprits in narcotics.

Pharmacies will call doctors if they are suspicisious and ER's are checked with your name etc.

Here in Santa Fe (it's a small city) it's very hard to get away with "Dr. Shopping". I hopei have answered your questions.

StaceyS   June 26th, 2009 10:46 pm ET

I'm from Trinidad & Tobago he came to my Country in Feb' 1978 at the age of 20 with his family and i have to say we are very proud to have had the King of Pop in our Country. It was a pleasure having them. I heard it on the news yesterday on my way home and i'm still in shock he was everything. Our local radio station ( Sweet 100.1FM) kept playing his hits one after the other and my son said to me, mummy i didn't know he sang all those song and he have a nice voice to. It's really sad, but i would like to send love and strength to the Jackson Family.

And to the Media you guys are doing a great job but let us focus on the good he has done. His music would be with us and our children forever.

Celebrities have prescription pain killers readily available to them, but I am a chronic pain sufferer from a work injury who was not able to get any kind of narcotic drug so I could lead a normal life until a few months ago, despite going to several doctors at medical facilities in two states for nine years. One doctor was prescribing Ultram (non-narcotic pain reliever) for me until she received a notice that Ultram could be habit forming, so she dropped me as a patient for fear of lawsuits. I finally found a medical facility with doctors who are treating me with narcotics (as needed) and physical therapy.

Please address both sides of the chronic pain issue on your show to be fair, both over prescribing and under prescribing are problematic.

Linda   June 26th, 2009 10:46 pm ET

Anderson

Again it is stranger that at the age of 10 you didn't know who Michael Jackson was, I can see you being at Studio 54, that part not knowing who he was I found quite strange.

Jacqueline, NY   June 26th, 2009 10:46 pm ET

@Marybeth Seeback
Has anyone heard from Janet Jackson? Where is she and her comments?

She lost a brother to death just yesterday. I'll bet my last dollar that she is somewhere with her her family crying her heart out and not caring very much about giving statements like the rest of the family.

maria   June 26th, 2009 10:46 pm ET

is the doctor that was with michael jackson the same doctor that administer the physical for the insurance..why didn't that doctor call 911 immediately as opposed to waiting. the 911 caller sound as if he walked in on the doctor with michael.

Michael Jackson will live on Forever! He is now the New Elvis Legacy!

Latasha (South Carolina)   June 26th, 2009 10:47 pm ET

It hurts heavily to know that Michael is gone...He was too famous and I felt this brought him a lot of saddness because he could not go any place on this earth and find peace without being swarmed by people, cameras and fans...he had no freedom...it was like being in prison on earth as mentioned in an old interview with Barbara Walters...Most famous people can go to other countries or places and find peace from the public eye, but Michael could not....He brought all races, colors, ages, religions and genders together...I love you Michael...

Krasi   June 26th, 2009 10:47 pm ET

Erica, so true. His videos and lyrics told stories of things that could be. He wanted to unite the world and is doing just that, even while gone (still can't believe it!!!).

Nancy   June 26th, 2009 10:47 pm ET

Why is the media missing the obvious? Papers report paramedics tried to revive Michael at home for 45 minutes. Why didn't they call the hospital sooner? Also Germaine said they tried to revive him in the hospital from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15p.m. PT. He had to be dead much earlier than 2:26 p.m.! So many of the doctors said when you go into cardiac arrest, you have a small window...like 10 minutes or so...review the tapes! A bigger story is here than the meds is here!

Rafael Kissimmee, Fl.   June 26th, 2009 10:47 pm ET

Michael Jackson never had a common life.
Now not happen otherwise.

I agree with you ... Seems like people unfairly speculate about a lot of things.

No matter what people thought of Michael Jackson's personal life, his talent cannot be denied. He brought great joy to millions and millions of people. That, in itself, should be respected.

Cathy, Mississippi   June 26th, 2009 10:48 pm ET

Michael will truly be missed by everyone. It is such a shock to so many. Looking back on Michael's legacy, something came to my mind. He was a universal performer. He reached out & touched everyone. His music was not for just one genre, but for everyone. He really wanted everyone to come together. I will always be a fan. I pray for his family, friends, & fans as we all come together to remember a great & one of a kind artist. I graduated from high school in 1985. Our class song was We Are The World. Thank you Michael for touching us all. Now Michael can find peace & look down on us all. Let's remember him in a positive way.

many things can be said about michael jackson his talent was beyond words his love for friends and family and his fans was real. i can still see thriller running through my head and even though i did not meet him personally i feel ive lost a friend. my generation has lost more than an icon he was an inspiration to us all. my prayers will be with his children being a parent myself i would only ask the same of others. may they never forget there dad and his love for them.... always remember michael the man, not just the susperstar

Pat   June 26th, 2009 10:48 pm ET

good evening Anderson
2 things-
-my favorite memory of MJ music is when I bartended in a go go bar, place would be black, at the first "Dirty Diana" wail, lights on two girls in the shower center stage. You have no idea how MJ's music would get people going, it truly wasn't just the girls
-Anderson, please when appropriate, bring up the topic of verbal, and in Michael's case, physical abuse so affects children. I haven't heard that addressed.

Judy   June 26th, 2009 10:48 pm ET

Abuse-we have to remember that abuse is often only seen behind closed doors. Michaels shyness, lack of confidence in his abilities, his loneliness and the emotional pain he so often displayed are the result of this abuse.

cherryrn   June 26th, 2009 10:48 pm ET

I think this might have been an unintentional mistake , either overdose or wrong RX given . Perhaps the demerol was accidentally given IV instead of IM.

Most Dr don't give shots they leave it up to nurses and some aren't experienced . But why this DR . did not give him Narcan , A narcotic antagonist for too much narcotics in his system is beyond me. Why did
he not have Narcan there and certainly the paramed would have had it.in an ambulance. To have a Cardiologist in his home and no defibrillator makes no sense.

Any way it was probably a combination of things.. RIP Michael Jackson.

kim   June 26th, 2009 10:48 pm ET

I'm a little suspicious of the whole 911 call, wouldn't his chest show signs of trauma if they tried to resusitate him ? I'm starting to feel this might have been intentional, even though it breaks my heart to even think such a thing.

Jacqueline, NY   June 26th, 2009 10:48 pm ET

@Jackie "I think there should be deeper investigation of the doctor with Michael Jackson when he passed. Why didn’t he go to the hospital with him? Something just doesn’t add up."

I agree 200%.

Robin   June 26th, 2009 10:48 pm ET

When I was seven years old, I got a Sony Walkman for my birthday and thought I was something. My first cassette tape was Thriller. I would tell everyone that Michael was my boyfriend. My sister wanted to buy me a Michael Jackson doll but my daddy wouldn't let her because he was black. I didn't care what color he was....I loved him. I feel that Michael helped break racial barriers like never before.

jane hernandez   June 26th, 2009 10:48 pm ET

When I was in my 40's I enjoyed watching Michael Jackson perform. I
wasn't a big fan of all his music. I bought TWO albums of ahtirller. One I listened to frequently (Bily Jean) and the other is still in its celephane wrap as I felt it would be popular one day. I bought the button (I Like Mike) to show my support of his innocense.
His career parallels Elvis Presley. What a loss to music.

Pam   June 26th, 2009 10:48 pm ET

I agree with Dr. Chopra when he stated the physicians who supplied Michael with narcotics are to blame! Jackson's other close friends want to celebrate his live rather than confront the problem with legal addictions. Perhaps if they admitted the truth about their friend, other celebrity addicted stars might get help to get off prescription drugs and Michael Jackson's death. may save others from the same untimely death.

Elle   June 26th, 2009 10:48 pm ET

It just bothers me that someone has to die to suddenly have eveyone unite and discuss their life history...their greatness....and appreciate the person that they were. It's even sadder to me that for so many years many of these people also riduculed, made fun of and shunned that person. Despite all that he has been accused of...Michael Jackson was simply a person...a human being clearly in deep emotional pain and needed help. He just happened to be a musical genius who was famous. Despite what i believe he may have done....Michael Jackson is someone I grew up with and hearing his music brings me back to my childhood and THAT makes me smile.
Thankfully his music lives on. I am sorry for his children,...for his family......and for the music industry to have lost such an icon.

Melissa   June 26th, 2009 10:48 pm ET

Michael Jackson was truly a magical person. He will be greatly missed. I am honored that I was able to experience a unique man and performer. RIP MJ and my blessings and prayers to the family.

His music transends so many generations .. my parents, myself and my children. So much of his music has such strong messages. Extraordinary talent. My favorite – Man in the Mirror. That video – catches your heart. God Bless you.

This woman who is currently being interviewed by Anderson is sharing some very interesting insights about Michael Jackson and race. Her "nose job" and "tanning" comment was original and it made me think. Please have her on again!!!

Krasi   June 26th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

Michael Jackson was the first American artist I saw on TV when the iron curtain fell and the "western' world was suddenly available to us. I remember being enthralled with his videos and dancing and tried to do the moves while by myself.

Gina, Dallas TX   June 26th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

Let's celebrate Michael's life during this time. He gave so much of himself for his fans. Yes there are questions we all have, but let's concentrate on the positive rather than the negative aspects of his life!

Kesha   June 26th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

It is just sad that he had such a lonely life. First because of his father and then because of his fame. I hope his soul is finally at peace

Nicholas NJ   June 26th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

I do belive Michael Jackson had a hard childhood, he was insulted by his father. Anderson can you ask sanja about what his supposed skin disease does, and if any other past illneses could of caused his death? I would appreciate this.

Kalina   June 26th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

I just wanted to say that we should leave Michael Jackson to rest in peace, for finaly he may have some rest , that which was never granted to him in his life. About his skin color, it is not that important there are many people who have such problems, as this woman who was on CNN the other day , she had been one of the first African American women in the army , and now in her older years she had turned white and only had one patch of brown skin on her arm. Therefore proving that this does not only happen to him. May we now let him rest in peace.

TJ   June 26th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

Micheal say Hello to my father and give him a hug for me and tell him i love him

Darlene   June 26th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

Anderson,
There are many of us who are professional people in medicine,
why, if his doctor was with him and gave him or observed him
take the demerol, and the doctor saw his respirations declining,
did he not give him a drug called narcan, that would have reversed
the effects of the demerol and any other drugs he might have taken.
The narcan has been around a long time, it works, and might have
saved him.

Michelle Heape   June 26th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

Born the same yr as Michael, It was Junior High Sch. When the Jackson 5 came out, let me tell you they came out BIG. I am caucasion, with the desegragation going on, riots all over, it still did not matter the groups color to any of us. Michael as my self grew up in the 70's with drugs being 2nd hand for our age. I was very lucky that I over came my own skeletens in my closet, and there was plenty. I always felt for him because we had a lot of the same horrific acts done to us. Not that I am a bit glad he is gone, my one other thought is that he is truly out of all that pain now. My heart truly is broken.

Juanita   June 26th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

Good evening Anderson, Yesterday changed the lives of many forever. God gave us a gift name Michael Jackson, just to enjoy for a moment. Let us lift up his life in celebration, and throw away all of the imperfect things about him, for judgement is not ours. May you now R.I.P. Michael!

Valerie   June 26th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

What a shame that those who loved Michael saw him spiraling out of control and couldn't do anything to help. Can the industry start an intervention group to help their stars when they are obviously in trouble? This tragedy should spur a grass roots movement to never let this happen again. We will miss Michael and his incredible music and performances. Our prayers are with his family at this difficult time.

Brittany, From Ohio   June 26th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

i am very sadden about michael jacksons death. he was a very talented artist. a lot of people misjudged him. people need to leave him alone, everyone has to answer to god. my condolences are sent to his family and friends. may he rest in peace!

Donna   June 26th, 2009 10:50 pm ET

Your coverage on Michael was fantastic. I still can't believe he's gone. We have lost a great entertainer; a very giving and caring person. My prayers are with him and his family.

Martina Ilstad Germany   June 26th, 2009 10:51 pm ET

Hey Anderson
Listen to this wounderful music, you play in your show ,makes me so sad.
Today ever person, asking each other,do you know what happened. The King died,Nobody can belive this terrible tragedy. All i can do is pray, and hope that he is going to a better pleace, without lonlynes and pain. But he have lost his kids, and they lost their father.

kim   June 26th, 2009 10:51 pm ET

To the family and his kids I am very sorry for the loss of michael . But it is very funny how he died and how long it took for people to get there to help him. we all were told that is had been dead for more then the time they said he died. And we all think the Dr. Help him die. And if he did did they stop and think what it is going to do to the family and the kids.It is very hard on kids to loose there mom and dad when they are young . I fell very sorry for the kids they did not ask for this .People need to leave them alone and let them deal with what has happen.

christine morrissey   June 26th, 2009 10:51 pm ET

Sadie   June 26th, 2009 10:53 pm ET

Very interesting conversation about crossing race lines...my husband and I are in our 50's, from the Midwest and very traditional white folks, we loved Michael Jackson and are "devasted" by his death. When he performed black or while just didn't matter,l what an AWESOME performer.

Denise   June 26th, 2009 10:53 pm ET

I think Micheal Jackson lived a very lonely life. Which is so ironic with the outpouring of Love and Compassion from people around the World these past two days. The World can Love You but you can still be Unloved if you first can't learn to Love Yourself!

nicholas   June 26th, 2009 10:53 pm ET

what about farrah fawcets life and death? why has no one talked about her, and her iconic life. she was one of the icons of the 70's, 80's, 90's. It really upsets me that her death was brushed under the rug. Trust me, i am a huge fan of michael jackson, and will alway be one. but fair is fair. she was just as much a person as he was.
sincerely
nicholas

Kim   June 26th, 2009 10:53 pm ET

So sad to lose such talent and so young, he was great for old, young, white, black,it does not matter who you are you had to of liked him. Now so many are focusing on the bad,but please remember his children will hear these things, the oldest are 11 and 12 and they lost their father and been through enough, so please let them have thier father rememberd for the good and not the bad. It will only traumatize them more to have their father dragged through the mud like this.

Barry Vasquez   June 26th, 2009 10:53 pm ET

I think Micheal changed his look because he was scared of his father and did not want to look as his father and be a different person his father was really hard on him, he did not change his look for a white population he changed for his self and he became a softer heart and was so pure and loved children because they are so pure and wanted to have a soft child-hood. He loved and cared about the world and relised what is wrong with this world and made many point of life i love him.

sandra   June 26th, 2009 10:53 pm ET

I am still very shocked about MJ's death!!
A part of me thinks MJ (king of Pop) wanted to die young just like Elvis(king of Rock)!!!! Could this all be his master plan????
However, MJ will always be the worlds best entertainer ever!!!
RIP Michael!!! You will be always loved!

gary beck   June 26th, 2009 10:53 pm ET

Michael Jackson's music was the soundtrack of my formative years...his music will be with me til the day i pass. Hearing MJ's music makes me feel young again.

Trisha of Atlanta   June 26th, 2009 10:53 pm ET

Everyone from five to fifty claims Michael for their generation. No one, not even Elvis, I think, is a part of the fabric of so many generations. Webster can change the definition of "Legend" to simply Michael Joe Jackson. Nuff said.

Dona   June 26th, 2009 10:53 pm ET

Greetings all,

I grew up watching and listening to the amazingly talented kid, Michael Jackson. He was adorable and captured the hearts of many. His shy sweetness and tenderness was apparent throughout his life. I can't begin to imagine his pain.

About the pills – I understand chronic pain, tolerance, dependency, and the inevitable addition to prescription drugs. It is a HUGE problem in our nation. Not just the "groupie-doctors" but many of our country's doctors have created a generation of prescription addicts. You don't have to be a rock star/pop star to get pain pills. I hope this tragedy will bring attention to the biggest "pill pushers" in our communities.

Anderson & Erica, are you guys going to do the Beat 360??

Michelle Finney   June 26th, 2009 10:54 pm ET

Being from Indiana Like The Jacksons I can remember going to My first concert at the age of 5 becasue my brother wanted to go and because all the prospected babysisters were going, My grandmother packed me off to the concert with them. I for one can't understand why no one seen that micheal was sick way back when he was in his early twenties if just one of these people would have shown him a little tough love maybe he would still be here with us showing us how greatness inproves on greatness it is a loss but now I think it is time for us to be good americans and let him rest in peace and his family have some time to morne, regaurdless of how big off a star he was.

wayne   June 26th, 2009 10:54 pm ET

Michael Jackson was a musical genius and a great humanitarian . He wanted to make the world a "better place"by tearing down racial
barriers,as evidenced by his groundbreaking debut on MTV,a station which did not feature Blacks. Michael's legacy should be that of a
loving, caring ,generous, soul who loved the children of this world and did something to alleviate their suffering. Unfortunately, the media over the past years, have reported the sordid details of the trumped-up
child molestation charges and Michael Jackson's bizarre appearance.
Maybe, in death, Michael will finally receive the recognition he deserves. May he find rest from all his labors.

Pat Wynn   June 26th, 2009 10:54 pm ET

Michael Jackson's skin color turned from black to white because of the skin disease vitiligo. He probably first saw white spots appearing on his hands in his late 20's and early 30's. For a black man to have this skin disease would be very disconcerting. I know. I am a 62-year-old white woman who used to have a beautiful olive complexion. Now, I have very white skin, losing my pigmentation in my early 50's.

Hello MR Anderson, lets also not forget about Farrah Fawcett who went throught alot when she died

Charlie Adkins Jr.   June 26th, 2009 10:54 pm ET

We all need to learn something from this great mans' life! I've know someone with Michael's problem. You have to intervene! Then it is still hard to do anything. You must be family to help them. All I know is this man molded part of my life & will allways be a part of it. I love your music, I loved your life Michael. Till we meet again my brother ;(

Why was Michael Jackson on pain medicine? I have not heard an explanation why he was on them. The ones he was reportedly on are very strong and used for severe pain caused by conditions such as cancer.

well... all i want to say is that, i grew up dancing micheal, singing micheal, and watching micheal. i do not care about his personal life , his talent, his music, his message is what i love about him. I am a positive person, and appreciate good work like what he did for the world. People have the tendacy to just criticize what you've done wrong and never recognize the quality in you. Lets celebrate micheal jackson, and be the best we can.

Donna   June 26th, 2009 10:55 pm ET

Hi Anderson, it's Donna again. I don't understand why the doctor wasn't around when the police impounded his car if he had nothing to hide. As far as the drugs go, don't you think they handed them out too willingly to stop his pain instead of trying to see what else they could do for him?
I love your show!!!

monica   June 26th, 2009 10:55 pm ET

I am heartbroken, didn't think I would cry so much.
The videos brought tears, but I kept watching all day.
He is at peace, maybe for the first time.
We have a new angel...

As for the doctor: they had to find him???
why not call 911 immediately?

Dawn   June 26th, 2009 10:55 pm ET

Michael will be so missed. The good die young. (And 50 is young now a days) My heart goes out to his family....his mother. I know his family, as well as the world, are feeling an over whelming loss. There will never be anyone like him. We should all try to reflect on the message that he tried to convey to us all and love one another and make this world a better place for everyone. His passing has affected the world and there are very few people on the planet that will have that kind of impact. Rest in peace Mr. Jackson. You are in good hands with GOD.

SuzyQ   June 26th, 2009 10:55 pm ET

Maybe he tried to look more Anglo, out of guilt because he did transcend black or white...he didn't suffer many racisist issues that so many African Americans experience...a thought from an Anglo...opinions?

Anissa   June 26th, 2009 10:55 pm ET

In my devastation of Michael's death and seeing him die from the very thing that consistently plagued such a wonderfully presented human being in his character, spirit & music: "A broken heart"! All truth be told: Michael spent his life trying to be loved and attempting to love others and when u look at his actions of his life~they speak volumes of that! I truly believe that if Michael had not missed out on so much of his childhood then we as a public would have seen more mature manly adult qualities in his everyday actions. But then that leaves to ??? would that have taken away the electric mesmerizing fire of his music? Be @ peace now my friend & Jackson family we love You!

Erica's 360 Bulletin reminded me of news I saw of an accident in northern Indiana today where a car was smashed between two semis and the entire family of five was killed - apparently the first semi slowed for traffic, the car rear-ended the first semi and the second semi couldn't stop and crushed the car between the two trucks -

we never know what tomorrow will bring our way - please remember to always tell your loved ones how you feel about them.

Hilary   June 26th, 2009 10:55 pm ET

Good Evening Anderson et al.

Sad day.

Anderson, please look into the 911 call further, enhance it so you can hear the voice clearly in the background of the caller from the residence who keeps "remarking something" to the man speaking to the 911 operator who sure took his time in the beginning dealing with the situation as it was explained to him, IMO.

Dr. Murray won't sign the Death Certificate, nor will the hospital or those EMT's who treated him and I believe might have found him DOA at the residence. No one wants their names on THIS one and there must be a reason why.

Where did Dr. Murray go and WHY was he reportedly living at the residence and going on tour if there was a recent healthy insurance exam?

Thanks for the efforts of you and your team in advance...

My MJ "showstopper" moment no question was the Motown 25 performance. Of course, there is nothing like seeing him perform live in concert. I don't think my hearing will ever be the same again with all the screaming... :)

Erica and Anderson!!

Congrads to CNN for a fantastic job of the professionalism and honor of Michael Jackson's legacy. This situation has been spoken about by all CNN guest in a very respectful and sensitive manor.

Thank you

anyone who has endured a childhood as challenging and cofusing as Michael's suffers some sort of problems stemming from it, Exactly, leave him alone and just let his light shine on, we are not to judge.

Shannon   June 26th, 2009 10:55 pm ET

Favourite memory would have to be the award show he was on in '83 and he danced. He boogied! He showed the world what he could do and he had sparkly socks and glove and sassy moves and music videos were a new thing and I was just coming into my teen years and I could not believe him! I thought he was most excellent!

Jack   June 26th, 2009 10:55 pm ET

I work in the health care field, and unfortunately.. I see Doctors frequently that are "enablers", and write narcotic pain prescriptions to people that obviously are drug seekers; for monetary reasons. I am not saying that Michael Jackson was a drug seeker, but I am saying that he was probably a victim of these predatory Hollywood doctors.. My heart is broken, and my children and whole family grew up with Michael.. from his time with the Jackson 5.., to Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad.. I still have my original LP of Thriller and it will alwyas be a Treasure to me.. much like Michael Jackson was.. The Greatest Entertainer that ever walked the Face of the Earth!! Peace, MJ

Ramona   June 26th, 2009 10:56 pm ET

I am having a hard time with all the coverage on Michael Jackson...or maybe I have missed all that was on about Farrah Fawcett. She was a very special lady with so much courage. MJ was a great entertainer, however did not look after his health.

keith schur   June 26th, 2009 10:56 pm ET

why did his brother not help? Everyone wants to blame Michael, the dr was just as bad. My family and I are still shocked over his death. My wife and I grew up listening to his music.

Daniel M. Glick M.D.   June 26th, 2009 10:56 pm ET

The disease of addiction/alcoholism is deadly, period!
Sadly, I have treated thousands of patients and families who do not want to face the lethality of these disorders.
The problem is societal, broadly problematic and pervasive. Please understand that this is a national endemic which, we as a culture, do not want to face in an enlightened, direct or scientific manner.
Aware health-care professionals and lay people know that Substance Use Disorders are complex neuropsychiatric illnesses which are absolutely treatable and not issues of moral psychology or weakness of character. Moreover, addictive disorders are not going to somehow vanish. Let's wake up!
Unless, there is a sweeping change about this reality, Michael Jackson's premature passing will certainly not be the last tragedy of this sort.

Mr. Anderson of course MJ wanted to be white. He has bi-racial children. He did not have little brown babies, his choice was to have children with a white woman. His children look white and thats what he wanted his legacy to reflect.

let's keep the positive and celebrate a terrific/talented person. RIP MJ.

AMARIE   June 26th, 2009 10:56 pm ET

Isabel, Brazil   June 26th, 2009 10:56 pm ET

Prison dances thriller ... cool

Heather - Spokane, WA   June 26th, 2009 10:56 pm ET

My favorite memory of Micheal jackson is when I was 7 and the Thriller video first premiered on tv and my parents allowed my younger brother and I to stay up and watch the making of it and the video itself. Then i went to school the next day and it was all everyone was talking about. Its funny that something like that caused a hoopla but when you look at it as an adult you realize that you saw music history being made

Cynthia, NC   June 26th, 2009 10:57 pm ET

My favorite Michael Jackson performance was the Motown 25th Anniversary special. I was mesmerized by his dance moves. Man, could he dance!

Thank you Anderson for two great nights in tribute to Michael Jackson. You are a class act.

Have a nice weekend, everyone.

Bethsy, Panama   June 26th, 2009 10:57 pm ET

Hi, I think that the world lost a real star. And people should celebrate his life and the good he did for others. Yes, he was weird, so what? Who is perfect.? he'll be missed.......

Gloria, Brooklyn, NY   June 26th, 2009 10:57 pm ET

One of my favorite songs of Michael is "Heartbreak Hotel", and he is like, "But I didn't do anything."

Nina   June 26th, 2009 10:57 pm ET

Dearest Michael,

With your passing I feel as if music itself has died. It is painful and tragic that we will never realise the genius that you had instore for us, that magic is lost to us forever. Although heartbreaking, we can find consolation in the fact that in your last days, the millions of fans that were anticipating your grand return had assured you that you are loved. Can we be so blessed to witness another such as yourself in our lifetime? Truly the King of Music has passed on, but you will live on forever. RIP.

Julia   June 26th, 2009 10:57 pm ET

My name is Julia and I am 64 yrs. old and live in PR. I didn't always live in PR and I haven't always been 64. I grew up w/Michael as well as Elvis, the Beatles and hundreds of others. Michael Jackson is truly the one of the best that we have had the pleasure of knowing and enjoying. Michael lived to give us all pleasure and so he did in a big, big way so that we will never forget.

Unfortunately there must've been something awful in his life that he wanted to blur out for he tried to hard to change his whole being in such a drastic way. I don't think that any of us will ever really know, except that he did achieve what he set out to do in his life and that was to give us all pleasure for the rest of our lives, and if you don't believe it just play any one of his songs and see the magic. Rest in peace Michael for you accomplished your goal, how many of us do that?

My deepest sympathy for his family especially his mom, I'm sure she must be in deep sorrow. Michael might be gone but he will never be forgotten of that I am sure.

PS: Love your show Anderson, thanks for the good work.

Diane TN   June 26th, 2009 10:57 pm ET

Hey Anderson!!! Do you have a clip of the song BEN???? My favorite.

carol   June 26th, 2009 10:57 pm ET

I wonder if they looked for needle marks on the body.Maybe a shot was given of demorol. Maybe he had already taken oral drugs without the Dr. knowing.

gina richey   June 26th, 2009 10:57 pm ET

i dIdn't finish my earlier blog due to tear filled eyes. I grew up with Michaels' music and many nights his voice gave me comfort and happiness. It saddened me when he went through his legal problems, I believe he would still be with us if he loved himself as much as we loved him! Prayers to his family, especially his beloved children. RIP Michael Jackson!

Fernanda, Brasil   June 26th, 2009 10:57 pm ET

I have no doudt that Michael is one the new members of God`s choir.
What a magical sound!
Wish we all could hear it!

Tami Ricketts   June 26th, 2009 10:57 pm ET

Michael Jackson is was and will continue to be an iconic individual in the History of Music. He was instrumental in the way Music was seen heard and viewed. Inventing, creating and instilling what became Music Video's of today thru productions such as Thriller- The first of it's kind. a movie like Music Video which changed and paved the way of what we watch today... that was started on MTV by Michael Jackson.

Let's not forget to for front The Purpose of all this notoriety regarding his death. "HE WAS A SUPERSTAR" HE IS A LEGEND! Judgement is not in the hands of society but in the hand of God... we all do are best, we give back what we can. None of us in this world are without fault or sin.

He gave back- He gave Joy- He gave Hope-Peace and Love to a Billion people across the land. He gave his childhood and reverenced the adults that directed him. He gave his LIFE... to all of us!

He produced beautiful Music for all of us to enjoy... Addicted or not, Michael Jackson is history to all of us! He is unmeasurable and will forever be remembered for not just being The Hollywood Name
"The King of POP" but hopefully even a deeper memory of rather a
human being that was born with the music in him. He moved on pure natural ability and an instinct within that allowed to to be who he was.
Michael Jackson the man.... this is who he was. A gifted individual who knew at a very young age he had the power of Music in him... and along with that came his dedication to perfection to give to the world the best he had within him... irrelevant of imperfections- I would hope THE WORLD COULD GIVE BACK JUST A MOMENT OF SILENCE BACK TO HIM IN HIS HONOR FOR ALL HE HAS GIVEN TO US. A life long dedication to the passion of music and talent he held so closely to his heart... that in these early hours of his death we could focus on all of his goodness and not just his wordly imperfections....

MICHAEL JACKSON I THANK YOU....

Brian   June 26th, 2009 10:57 pm ET

I always liked the Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney songs. Especially "Say Say Say"

Stephanie   June 26th, 2009 10:57 pm ET

I just want to say its a sad loss for everyone, he was an amazing legend through everything. It gets tiresome of listening to lies about MJ. He was found NOT guilty = Innocent! the media put him in a box and then called him weird and eccentric. RIP MJ

Celeste   June 26th, 2009 10:57 pm ET

I was saddened when I heard of Michael Jackon's death yesterday. The world lost a truly gifted musician and there will never be anyone else to fill his shoes. I was fortunate enough to see the Jackson 5 in concert at the age of 12 and never fogot the electricity the group brought to the stage. Michael was gifted far beyond his years. In an interview years ago he said the song, "Have you seen my childhood" could have been his autobiography and if you really listened to the lyrics, you gained a sense of who Michael really was. No matter what your personal opinion may have been of him, noone can deny the phenomenal talents he possessed. From his smooth voice to the electrifying dance moves he created on stage, he was indeed one of a kind. He can now be young forever and not be condemned for it. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

He has united the whole world. Everyone wants to dance to his music, sing his songs, dress and act just like him. He made quite a tremendous impression on people of all ages and all nationalities. I also get sick to my stomach when I see his father on TV and the domino effect that he is responsible for.

Ana De La Cruz   June 26th, 2009 10:58 pm ET

It's tough to grow up and see the ones that made the journey worth while leave on an exit too soon. He recorded some of the best-selling albums in history and has left a legacy of his music and career-a token of memory for those that witnessed his journey and an inspiration for those yet to fall in love with the King of Pop.

jay   June 26th, 2009 10:58 pm ET

"Micheal and Elvis may have both met their untimely end due to too many class A narcotics and NO ONE could say no to enabling them i.e. doctors gave scripts for the drugs but Elvis died constipated on the porcelain thrown 60 pounds overweight that's how they found him. Micheal was 60 pounds under weight and the official cause still not official. Making comparisons of the two in death is really pointless"

De 'von   June 26th, 2009 10:58 pm ET

Anderson Michael Jackson was one of the best performers this country and world has seen. The King of POP will be missed dearly by all who knew him, and the people who loved his music. R.I.P Michael me and your fans around the world will miss you. This is good bye to and American Icon and a Legend in my eyes. To the Jackson family i'm truely sorry for your lost, and no matter what the news media say bad about Michael i want you to remember him for the love and careing brother, father, and friend he was. Thank you Michael for the memories you have left of with.

Isabel, Brazil   June 26th, 2009 10:58 pm ET

He danced a lot!
The technique he was unmatched!

... I love dance... I love his dance

ToniAnn   June 26th, 2009 10:58 pm ET

I have a question about the "family lawyer". He knew that Michael Jackson was doing these drugs, he said he tried to warn the family, but why didn't he do anything himself about it? He also stated, "If you think Anna Nicole Smith was bad, you haven't seen anything yet." Why isn't anything being brought up against this "family lawyer"?

Lori from IL   June 26th, 2009 10:58 pm ET

It's about that time ...

Anderson thanks for an informative show - and sharing all the quotes and MJ music - very classy...

Fellow Bloggers, enjoyed the chatting...

Hope everyone has a good weekend ... peace....

Great "Shots" tonight - love the moonwalk!

Anne D   June 26th, 2009 10:58 pm ET

I agree with the post that it would be great if there could be a place to visit such as Neverland (anything of the ilk of Graceland). The ongoing stream of visitors would be unbelievable. With time, it would generate enough monies to pay his debts and continue to fund his children's trust.

Michael Anthony(Baguio, Philippines)   June 26th, 2009 10:59 pm ET

His loved ones should be there for him in times of need. Knowing what's he's been through. My condolences to his family

Maureen T, Canada   June 26th, 2009 10:59 pm ET

We are HONORED to live in the era of a bright sun named Michael Jackson.

I wish he was alive just 1 more day so we can tell him how much we appreciate, how much much we love and care for him. He told & showed us how much he cared but we FAILED.

Jolene, St. Joseph, MI   June 26th, 2009 10:59 pm ET

@Erica and Anderson: Thanks for sharing your best MJ performance moments! There sure were some classic moments. Thanks for bringing back some great memories...

Nite bloggers.

Bill & Char Jackson   June 26th, 2009 10:59 pm ET

We feel as does Diana Ross; We are both heart broken about hearing this news. I, too, can't stop crying and have been glued to the tube all last night and most of today! It is unbelievable that this is a reality. It is a tremendous lost for us all. I hope his family can gaiin strength from each other and God's word the bible.
