Tonight on 360°, a Continental jet lands safely at Newark airport, with the first officer at the controls. Passengers say that's when they learned the 60-year-old captain had died during the cross-Atlantic flight, apparently from natural causes. A doctor on board was called to help. Should the crew have told all the passengers what was happening?

June 18th, 2009 10:00 pm ET Evening, Anderson! I hope the rest of your day has been better than the morning! And what morning, huh! lol ... Today is really better to be on shore... After another problem with flight, pilot dying in mid-air and copilot takes aircraft to the rest of the trip. Whew!! The main legislative body of Iran decided to invite the three candidates defeated in the disputed presidential election to discuss their complaints in a meeting, but does that solve anything? Hi friends, David (Indiana), bloggers, 360 team … |

June 18th, 2009 10:01 pm ET I would only want to know if our lives were in serious danger. I think it was handled properly, no cause for alarm. There were capable people to take over. If they told the passengers it would have incited some amount of hysteria, and numerous questions keeping the attendents from doing their jobs! Kudos to how it was handled! |

June 18th, 2009 10:09 pm ET Hi Anderson, Erica, and all the bloggers here – rough day for air travel it seems. The pictures from Iran make me wonder if we are seeing the beginnings of another Iranian revolution like the one they had in the 1970s after the Shah left. Maybe this time if they if they have a revolution they will leave the religious body out of the government. |

June 18th, 2009 10:18 pm ET I am glad that airlines have contingency plans for a pilot who becomes incapcitated in flight and thankful that the Continental flight landed safely at Newark airport. If there's that many problems with the election in Iran, I wonder how there could be a recount, but I imagine the clerics who have ultimate authority, as Abbas Milani says, in that country can make this happen. A postive note. If the protests and rallies can become and stay peaceful that could help pave the way for a recount. |

June 18th, 2009 10:18 pm ET Incredible story about the family & the pilot, our heart goes out to his wife. I believe that not telling the passengers was the best decision to avoid possible panic. June 18th, 2009 10:19 pm ET It would've created unnecessary panic had the crew told the passengers that their pilot had died. I was on a flight once where the pilot got sick and that in itself caused enough panic. I can't imagine being on a flight and hearing that the pilot just died. |

June 18th, 2009 10:36 pm ET Jolie makes a good spokeswoman for the refugees. Its good to see a celebrity being so supportive and outspoken on such a vital cause. |

June 18th, 2009 10:37 pm ET Hey Anderson~ Sorry you day has been so bad. Angelina is so cool and right on. Each and every human is important. It is also important for us to do what we can to improve this world one person at a time. |
|
| Alex |
June 18th, 2009 10:37 pm ET Angelina is a noble woman, using her celebrity to bring attention to good causes. And she's gorgeous. |
|
| Lori from IL |
June 18th, 2009 10:37 pm ET @ Anderson – read your "tweets" Think "crazy" is an understatement. Hope your day got better - enjoying the Angelina Jolie interview on this very important topic. |

June 18th, 2009 10:37 pm ET I wish more people paid attention to important issues in the world. Jolie is admirable and we should all find our own way of helping to make the world a little better. |
|
| Gayle McCauley Malden,Mass. |
June 18th, 2009 10:37 pm ET I can only feel deep respect for the refugees that continue to have a winning spirit. So many of the downtrodden have this attitude towards life and it is admirable.I try to appreciate ,every day,how lucky I am.I too, have little tolerance for whining..In the scheme of things we are all blessed, don't you think? |
|
| Mike, Syracuse, NY |
June 18th, 2009 10:37 pm ET I think some aren't giving the passengers enough credit. This wasn't some made for TV movie with the cliche panicking passengers. I'm sure some noticed something going on, and it's better to explain than leave people wondering. |
|
| Eleanor Coombs, Ga |
June 18th, 2009 10:37 pm ET I'm glad that Angelina wants more kids. Maybe she will go to the orphanages here for a change.lots of kids available, especially with those who will not abort a baby, but have no problem giving it away |
|

June 18th, 2009 10:37 pm ET It's interesting the authorities say that a fairly new aircraft, "broke up" in mid-air , it certainly raises eyebrows. |

June 18th, 2009 10:38 pm ET @Michelle D it also prevents clotting that can lead to/cause a heart attack. I have a feeling this is where this may go next. |

| Caroline, Los Angeles |
June 18th, 2009 10:38 pm ET I missed all the details of your flight Anderson but what I heard sure doesn't make me like flying more. Angelina Jolie has really transformed herself inside to be a truly gorgeous woman, much like Princess Diana was. Oh that more multimillionaires, male and female, would learn the wisdom of doing the same. |
|
| Isabel, Brazil |
June 18th, 2009 10:38 pm ET @ Anderson and 360 team The interview was great! Congratulations and thank you! Worth it the madness of the day for bringing us this interview! |
|
| Pia |
June 18th, 2009 10:38 pm ET I think it's commendable how Angelina uses her status to help others all around the world, especially children. She's definitely grown as an inspiring role model to me. |

June 18th, 2009 10:39 pm ET The refugees pain never gets the best of them they keep going and have amazing strengh we should all have that kind of strenght inside of us too. |

June 18th, 2009 10:40 pm ET I think this is the 3rd interview between AC and Angelina. Each time I sit in humble wonderment... This woman is a living saint. |
|
| Hana |
June 18th, 2009 10:40 pm ET wow! im really sad for the pilot but im proud that the co pilot took charge like that! |
|
| Sheila V |
June 18th, 2009 10:40 pm ET We need more Angelina's from Hollywood. Celebrities have such following that I think they can really make a difference. Of course, no excuse for us not to do our part in small ways as well. Great interview, Anderson. |
|
| Michelle D . Fonthill. Ont |
June 18th, 2009 10:40 pm ET Great job bringing us the interview dispite the original plan team 360 rules ! |
|
| Mandy |
June 18th, 2009 10:41 pm ET Angelina Jolie is a much needed voice for people without one. I believe it is hard for Americans to even imagine the true plight of refugees. Any struggle under our current economic crisis is nothing compared to what people in third world countries experience. Everything is relative. |
|
| Ilse - Miami |
June 18th, 2009 10:41 pm ET Sad to see that we are ignoring the pain of such innocent children and families -victims. Congratulation Anderson, for letting us view with empathy and see the needs of others. Angelina, great to see such a leader and strong woman take charge and be the voice of the victims. |
|

June 18th, 2009 10:41 pm ET Learning the personal stories of all those misplaced, I realize how lucky I am never to have expereinced something so horrible. |

June 18th, 2009 10:42 pm ET It's hard to imagine being force to conform to save themselves from being killed. Living in the shadow of a deadly revolution...? Unbearable... |
|
| Midn De Leon, Emmanuel |
June 18th, 2009 10:42 pm ET I don't think that the Passangers should have been told. The Co-Piolet had everything in contol that is the reason for them. Something just don't need to be said, to avoid mass hystaria. |
|
| joe donovan |
June 18th, 2009 10:42 pm ET Please don't make it sound as if the passengers on continental flt 61 were in a life threainting situation. they were not. that is why there are co-pilots. all went as planned. |
|
| Michelle D . Fonthill. Ont |
June 18th, 2009 10:43 pm ET Angelina has sure changed from the early days when she used to be married to Billy Bob Thoton and wore vials of each other's blood . I admire he r growth and her unselfish way of giving back to these poor people . |
|
| Cassidy |
June 18th, 2009 10:43 pm ET Why is it when someone does good, others can only find fault. I think it is more than admirable what Angelina Jolie has done. |

June 18th, 2009 10:43 pm ET Hi Anderson, Nice to see you safe in NY. I'm glad that a celebrity like Angelina Jolie represents UNHCR. Refugees seem to be forgotten at the best of times. Angelina's children are lucky to have a mom with such a big heart. |
|
| Hana |
June 18th, 2009 10:43 pm ET jolie is so wonderful in what shes doing for refugees!!! |
|
| starr formerly known as vincent |
June 18th, 2009 10:43 pm ET Additionally, Ms. Jolie makes an excellent point regarding Pakistan. If Pakistan loses the battle with the extremists, the entire region is at very high risk (remember they have nuclear weapons). Excellent report my Nick Robertson. He is incredible where he will go, apparently not afraid of anything. You have to wonder though, where has all of the money (1 Billion per year since 2000) has gone. Most likely to the army and more weapons! Let's all give something for Pakistani refugees. |
|
| Jasmine - Spokane, WA (Spokandyland) |
June 18th, 2009 10:44 pm ET Jon and Kate are over! Apparently need the ratings... |
|
| Caroline, Los Angeles |
June 18th, 2009 10:44 pm ET Oh no! You and Erica are really Kate and Jon's other kids!! Boy Kate looks good for her gae then. |

| Sharon Hastings |
June 18th, 2009 10:44 pm ET Great interview with Angelina. She is so intelligent, articulate, and caring. I admire all that she does. All that and Brad Pitt too? It's too much. |
|
| Linda |
June 18th, 2009 10:44 pm ET @ Diane Brad and Angelina have done tremendous work, donations and have given money after the Katrina floods in Lousiana. They continue to donate to that city in helping in building homes and help with reviving the community, so they do do work in the USA as well. |
|
| Sheila V |
June 18th, 2009 10:45 pm ET Growing up from a 3rd world country myself, you really have no choice but to be resilient. Am very thankful for all the blessings. |
|
| Coltran |
June 18th, 2009 10:45 pm ET What a terrible tragedy that, in this modern day, that there are still so many people struggling to survive. Thank you Anderson, Angelina, and all the other people who are working to bring attention to these atrocities. |
|
| Caroline, Los Angeles |
June 18th, 2009 10:45 pm ET I really like Nick Robertson too. Very courageous guy. |
|
| Jeremy |
June 18th, 2009 10:46 pm ET If marijuana was legalized there would be little to no need to have people grow marijuana indoors being a lot of people who grow prefer to so outdoors in a garden with in their own yard. And even if it is to happen if that was to happen the govt could charge a tax on any thing more than 2 plants for personal use. |
|
| David, Indiana |
June 18th, 2009 10:46 pm ET Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are exactly right to make a donation to help the displaced people in Pakistan. As you note Anderson, the largest mass movement of people since Rwanda, It's unimaginable, 2.5 million people. Makes me wonder is there would be any other way to fight the Taliban. Wait them out, coordinate better. |
|
| Lori from IL |
June 18th, 2009 10:46 pm ET Such sad stories....we need to remember how fortunate we really are compared to so many others in the world... |
|
| Isabel, Brazil |
June 18th, 2009 10:46 pm ET The drugs are present in all cultures, and it is unrealistic to imagine that one day man will get rid of them. It is discussing the best way to deal with this fact. The model currently used by almost all countries, based on the prohibition and repression, already disclosed inefficient. |
|
| Jackie Cole |
June 18th, 2009 10:47 pm ET I don't know who the government of Iran thinks they are kidding when they try to act like business as usual on TV, while we are watching all the protesters being beaten, some to death. Don't they know that with all the technology available today that we will see what is behind the scenes? All the violence I have seen has been from the security police. |
|
| Marian |
June 18th, 2009 10:47 pm ET Anderson, this is an absolutely great show tonight. Bringing the refugee problem to the front will hopefully boost donations. |

June 18th, 2009 10:47 pm ET I worry this story about the pot farm will give jobless people ideas.... |
|
| Lori from IL |
June 18th, 2009 10:47 pm ET Okay - some of the "pot" stories this week remind me a little too much of the series "Weeds" |
|
| Deborah in Blue Springs MO |
June 18th, 2009 10:48 pm ET Look at the money our government is missing out on. Look at the jobs we'd create. |

June 18th, 2009 10:48 pm ET Again the players are illegal aliens just like the national park story. When are we going to secure the boarders? |

June 18th, 2009 10:48 pm ET Home grown pot? How convenient. I can see this causing more problems than help! |

June 18th, 2009 10:49 pm ET thank you Sir for that eye opening interview with Angelina Jolie. You are doing a great job. Gob bless you. |
|
| Lilibeth |
June 18th, 2009 10:49 pm ET Ms. Jolie is right; we should do all we can to help others. Just think, if we were in their shoes, and no one helps us, how would we feel? We should see ourselves in others. Lilibeth |
|
| Isabel, Brazil |
June 18th, 2009 10:49 pm ET Legalization would neutralize the drug cartels and would be a new source of taxes, but this trade must be controlled. |
|
| Gloria, Brooklyn, NY |
June 18th, 2009 10:50 pm ET Anderson, I am happy to know that your pilot made a wise decision not to continue on the flight to Washington. Don't play with mother nature. |

| Michelle -California |
June 18th, 2009 10:50 pm ET It is so great that Iran images keepcoming- Dictatorship can not keep the voice of Freedom quiet forever – Thank you CNN |
|
| starr formerly known as vincent |
June 18th, 2009 10:50 pm ET Just think of how much money could be saved in law enforcement if pot was made legal. Then the police could devote efforts and money to real crime! The kind of crime that hurts people. |
|
| Isabel, Brazil |
June 18th, 2009 10:50 pm ET A more sensible model would be based on the legalization accompanied by education campaigns and prevention |
|
| Negin |
June 18th, 2009 10:50 pm ET I wonder what the difference would be between Ahmadinejad and Mousavi..... from what I understand the Supreme Leader would remain the same and he is the man with all the power. I also wonder if the people of iran are now ready for it all to end. Since they have come so far. |
|
| Ilse W. - Miami |
June 18th, 2009 10:50 pm ET Really, we need to reconsidered our method, we do not have the funding for DEA to go around knocking doors by door. |
|
| CAROLYN J |
June 18th, 2009 10:50 pm ET Which means that if your neighbor is growing pot, it is really time |
|
| LisaL - Canada |
June 18th, 2009 10:51 pm ET i don't think i could grow it even if i wanted to... i killed a cactus once due to underwatering!! (needless to say, all my plants are silk). |
|
| Daniel Nelson Lafayette,IN |
June 18th, 2009 10:51 pm ET It is a great thing what Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie has done for the displaced people of Pakistan. I wish that more of the rich people would also give what they can for all people that have become refugees because of some extremist people who have no care of other peoples beliefs and lifestyles! |
|
| Megan Dresslar - Shoreline, WA |
June 18th, 2009 10:51 pm ET I also like Nic Robertson too.....He is very brave reporting so well....I hope he is stay safe way out of his harm. |

June 18th, 2009 10:51 pm ET okay, I love storm chasing, but getting that close to a half-mile wide tornado? First rule about driving around in tornado alley, you see a twister, you drive parallel, not straight for it. The tornado itself isn't the problem it's the debris that is the real danger. |
|
| Prebil |
June 18th, 2009 10:52 pm ET Why do we just assume this is a "problem?" I still don't know what I'm supposed to be afarid about here. |
|
| J. Barton |
June 18th, 2009 10:52 pm ET The money currently being spent on the "war on drugs" could be spent on administration, education and rehabilitation, instead. |
|
| Ellie B |
June 18th, 2009 10:52 pm ET I will never understand why people are so interested in Jon and Kate, when there is so much trouble in the world. The interview with Angelina Jolie way more important, and the many problems in Iran. |

|
| Ilse W. - Miami |
June 18th, 2009 10:56 pm ET I do not think Florida is the exception or any worse than other states as hrow houses are all over the place ...what else is going to be happening when so many homes are going into foreclosure.. |
|
| David, Indiana |
June 18th, 2009 10:56 pm ET It may not be as addictive as opiates and other substances but marijuana is a substance that I feel should be controlled. I'm for medicinal use. Should we legalize quaaludes? |

Come on Anderson, Dance! |

June 18th, 2009 10:59 pm ET I really admire Angelina Jolie for using her fame to shine a light on the desperate situation 42 million refugees are in. Many people choose to ignore what goes on outside of their own countries but when such an influential celebrity like Angelina Jolie never shows such passion for a cause that is dear to her heart it is really admirable. When Angelina was first appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR in 2001 she said she would never forget the refugees and she never has. |
|
| Mike |
June 18th, 2009 10:59 pm ET Pot growing in America? Wow! That's new... Pilot dies... well that's a shame, I feel bad for his wife... However once again more important stories... like, Obama bought and paid for the media, this time ABC is not worth the story. I hope you feel that you are REALLY doing your job. Especially when you brag how you don't take sides... really Cooper? Try not to have a grin on your face when you say that next time. |

June 18th, 2009 10:59 pm ET Angelina is an amazing woman. She gives so much of herself. I love the fact that she does't act like a spoiled movie star, she gets involved with the people, she plays and cuddles the children. Her children are lucky, because they will grow up knowing that everyone is important, and everyone deserves a chance in life. |
|
| David, Indiana |
June 18th, 2009 10:59 pm ET Richard Simmons has a good cause. Wow things are bad economically if there's no PE in the schools. Can't imagine going to school without physical educations goodnight Isabel, Anderson, Erica, good night everyone |

June 18th, 2009 10:59 pm ET As a result of watching Angelina Jolie, I made a small donation. I have very little myself; thus, my donation was small. The amount that she cares touches me, and I so hope it touches others as well. With her tears came mine as well. I so wish I could do more. |
