Iran bans foreign journalists from covering rallies

Iran's government Tuesday banned foreign media from covering rallies in Tehran being held in the wake of last week's disputed presidential election.

The decision comes after video footage emerged showing violence at demonstrations in support of opposition leader Mir Hossein Moussavi.

Moussavi has contested the results of Friday's election, which showed an overwhelming victory for hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Moussavi's supporters have taken to the streets, often clashing with police and Ahmadinejad's backers.

Iran's government had criticized some of the media coverage and images, describing them as biased.

International news outlets, including CNN, can talk about rallies in their live reports, but they are not allowed to leave their hotel rooms and offices.

Iranian government-run television, which was not affected by the restrictions, aired live coverage of Tuesday's rally in support of Ahmadinejad, whose supporters crowded the streets of central Tehran.

We are having a once in a 30 year revolution in Iran and our favorite anchor Anderson Cooper covers side effects of Pot and our favorite president is so passive in response to this world event he is just "deeply concerned". Out of frustration, I had to send this email to the White House:

With the passion I have had for your candidacy and presidency, I am dismayed by your complacent reaction to one of the most courageous and selfless quests for freedom in the human history. This is our time, this is our moment, you, the Americans, and the Iranian Americans to once in history change the American policy towards Iran, to once make the right policy decision, and to forever turn the corner on past mistakes that not only hurt Iranians but changed the world’s political landscape for the past three decades and possibly decades to come. The invasion of Afghanistan, the invasion of Kuwait by Saddam, the conception of Al Qaida, and the attack on our Twin Towers are indirect results of wrong past Iran policies that led to the Iranian revolution. The Iranian Americans believe that only a free Iran will change this landscape again. Fight against terrorism will render fruitless regardless of how cautious, calculated, and polished your statements are towards regimes that spread hatred and death. All your efforts during the next four or eight years may render marginal improvements, but a free Iran will change history again for the entire world. The Iranian young population is now putting their lives on the line to achieve this goal but is looking on to you, not for interference but for your passionate support of this struggle for freedom. Please do not deprive them of your support.

It's a shame that now Iran is cutting off the news reports. It kind of worries me though that now they will attack these protesters to put down the "uprising". They wouldn't want the world media to capture that.
