President Barack Obama held a town hall meeting on Thursday in Green Bay, Wisconsin to discuss his health care agenda — but he also took a little time to write an all-important "get out of school" note.

A young girl named Kennedy attended the town hall with her father, who was called on to ask a question.

Her father, John Corpus, started his query saying he hoped his daughter wouldn't get into trouble for missing the last day of school.

"Do you need me to write a note?" Obama asked.

Clearly assuming that Obama was just kidding, Corpus continued with his question — only to be interrupted by the president.

"No, no, I'm serious. What's your daughter's name?" Obama said, as he started to write a note. "I'm going to write to Kennedy's teacher."

He then walked over to the girl and handed her the note: "To Kennedy’s Teacher, Please excuse Kennedy’s absence…she’s with me. Barack Obama"

No word yet on whether the president's get out of school free card did the trick.

Here's the video...

I hope the school accepts the note! Not many schools would have a get out of school free note from the President of the United States!!

Karen   June 11th, 2009 8:55 pm ET

Really?

This is news?

WOW!!!

New low in journalism. Even dumb Jon Stewart of the Daily Show is doing a better job.

Alice   June 11th, 2009 9:51 pm ET

Lucky GirL!

Claire   June 11th, 2009 9:56 pm ET

Karen,
It's refreshing to see a news story that isn't trying to scare us or devastating in nature. So lighten up with your, obviously, right wing hatred.

Chastiny   June 11th, 2009 10:00 pm ET

I think this story was awesome. It seems like all people want to hear about is negative stuff.

Maralene   June 11th, 2009 10:01 pm ET

Can you imagine what an impact on this young girl's memory will have over her lifetime. An important man, President of the US, took the time to give a little girl the gift of his notice, a handwritten note, and demonstrate the simple act of a man who is a father to little girls himself understanding how special she is feeling.

Actually, this is "good news" ! We don't always need to hear or see negative stories in the news.

Becca   June 11th, 2009 10:02 pm ET

Karen, It's adorable. A light piece on the President's sense of humor and how he made a young girl's day. There's plenty of other "real" news on cnn. So, I don't think one feel good story has ruined the journalistic integrity of CNN.

Marshall   June 11th, 2009 10:04 pm ET

Karen,

this is the funny news story that lifts the spirit. Knowing that your president is humorous and serious is a good thing. A mist all of the negative that has been shown on the news for who knows when, its a change of pace to get this story. Don't take it too seriously, cause its not suppose to be.

Teri   June 11th, 2009 10:08 pm ET

I think this is an adorable story. It probably made little Kennedy's day. It is nice to hear a positive story with all the negative in the world today.

Anne   June 11th, 2009 10:08 pm ET

KAren-get a life–no one said it was news–it is just cute.

cindi   June 11th, 2009 10:12 pm ET

I'm a sucker for a sweet story. What a thrill for Kennedy. A story she can tell her grandchildren :)

Jennifer   June 11th, 2009 10:16 pm ET

I think that it is wonderful! It is important to realize the importance children play in our future. I love the way that President Obama let Kennedy know that she was worth taking the time to address. It is so nice to see a president actually let his actions match his words. Too many politicians only pretend to put families first. Thank you for the upbeat story.

Mia   June 11th, 2009 10:18 pm ET

aww Karen lighten up. It's technically a blog and one can blog about what one wants to. If you don't wanna read it move on to the next story.

Sara in MN   June 11th, 2009 10:19 pm ET

I think this is news... in the midst of all of the negative, depressing news we hear each day, it is uplifting to read something where I can say... "wow, that's kind of cool." Nice Job!

Henry   June 11th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

Mr. President is one who care about people's welfare whether it is education, economic. That's a note you got to keep it safe.

Tracy   June 11th, 2009 10:24 pm ET

Hey, Karen, sometimes it's nice to have good, small town, kid stuff in the news. It reminds us that it's not all bad or the world is ending kind of stuff.

And kudos to Mr. Corpus for involving his daughter in the town hall meeting. Get off your high horse and appreciate something cute and simple.

Adrienne, mother of another Kennedy   June 11th, 2009 10:28 pm ET

Priceless! She will remember that forever!

Rudy   June 11th, 2009 10:29 pm ET

President Obama is................so cool

Angie   June 11th, 2009 10:29 pm ET

Oh come on! A little light heartedness never hurt anyone! This was not life-changing news, but was a sweet little story that young Kennedy will never forget.

Marjorie Albert   June 11th, 2009 10:45 pm ET

Great human interest story. That's what we can use and the President provides – humanity Just made me feel good.

Adrienne, mother of another Kennedy   June 11th, 2009 10:51 pm ET

Just an after thought, if you ever met a kid with a parent that "just dropped them off", no note, not that this parent did that, it would mean a lot! Either way, nice

Lorrie   June 11th, 2009 10:54 pm ET

COOLEST. PRESIDENT. EVER!

Carole Yousi   June 11th, 2009 11:06 pm ET

He made a little girl's day and made a lot of us smile during these hard times

stevie rich   June 11th, 2009 11:18 pm ET

a purely natural moment between a little girl and her leader...very cool

Darcy   June 11th, 2009 11:20 pm ET

To those of whom made a negative comment saying "this is news?," first of all this is a blog, not a news channel (even though it is Anderson Cooper). The internet allows us to take the extra footage and use it, and make short clips on things like this that wouldn't always end up on daytime news because it doesn't catch the attention the advertisers need.

Second of all, it is great to the see the character of the President in this manner. Once gain showing that he is who he presented himself to be.

This is fanastic!

jan   June 11th, 2009 11:31 pm ET

It was very kind of President Obama to write the young child a note. It's something that should be very special to her and the school. It's not often that something that special happens for any of us. What a pleasure!

Stephen   June 11th, 2009 11:31 pm ET

As a Canadian watching your President, this is a perfect example of how he is connecting with the people of America and the rest of the world. LIttle gestures that remind everyone that they all matter, even while they discuss something as collosal as health care. He's connecting people to the issues of the country. As Lorrie said; Coolest President Ever.

holmes   June 11th, 2009 11:38 pm ET

This is what makes President Obama so special...
Kennedy will for ever remember this day and I bet you she should make a copy for her teacher and keep the original copy.

christiana   June 11th, 2009 11:49 pm ET

Amazing, a president who is down to earth about everyday stuff. Wow is all I can say. Refreshing even.

Chris   June 12th, 2009 1:14 am ET

Awesome gesture on part of the President. Now if he would only quit spending trillions the country doesn't have in the bank. hmmmm.

Bobby Lee   June 12th, 2009 1:35 am ET

It's a shame some people are so filled with doubt in the abilities of our President, that they will trash even the most lite-hearted story and turn it into yet another way to bash Obama.

sharon   June 12th, 2009 1:46 am ET

How exciting!,bet it made her day. I know it would've for me!

Marie Pinder   June 12th, 2009 2:29 am ET

That's why he is the greatest president.

Sally   June 12th, 2009 2:31 am ET

That's Great!!!

Sally   June 12th, 2009 2:33 am ET

That's one Great memory!!!!

Sashya latha from Pondycherry India   June 12th, 2009 4:58 am ET

I am sure everyone around the world who watched this really interesting story could not help smiling at the really down to earth President ....
Do the Obama children get similar notes when they want to skip school?

Ethan   June 12th, 2009 6:35 am ET

I agree with Karen. This isn't news!

nedra   June 12th, 2009 7:37 am ET

Barack Obama is so cool!!!

Terry, TX   June 12th, 2009 8:33 am ET

It's an unexcused absence.....and everyone needs to wipe the slobbering drool off their face.

carol   June 12th, 2009 8:45 am ET

Hey, he's a lefty. Left handed that is. LOL!

lisa   June 12th, 2009 8:48 am ET

AWESOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! GREAT BLOG!

Linda   June 12th, 2009 9:09 am ET

How much are they going to sell it for.

Melissa   June 12th, 2009 10:09 am ET

What a lucky little girl. I don't see the problem and I wish the haters would lighten up. This is just incredibly cute. So what that its a "kiss the baby moment" for the President, its adorable and she's lucky. Obama tries hard to reach out to the people, and its exactly what he should be doing.

Lampe   June 12th, 2009 10:27 am ET

Funny how about 90% of you blogging here, make comments about FOX not reporting the News. You say FOX just reports on stories that are not important to everyday people. Well I'm an everyday person, and this is not a News Story to me.

a different Karen :o)   June 12th, 2009 12:33 pm ET

I'll admit that I didn't vote for Mr. Obama, but I love the compassion & kindness he showed here!

abuchi nwaugwu   June 12th, 2009 2:13 pm ET

That is a president who means what he says, That was very involving and will teach young ones that you cannot just skip school day. Young kennedy will be an inspiration to other kids and her father is doing a great job. let us all join in this era of rebuilding.

Jay   June 12th, 2009 3:07 pm ET

For all those news junkies who are disgusted by this story as a news –

President shapes the agenda through his popularity with the folks. This interaction shows that he connects with regular people on small issues that families face (missing school, no health care etc.). You will be surprised how much this small incident contribute to his push on health care (whether you agree or disagree with his plan).

Dr Donna K Buechler   June 12th, 2009 4:15 pm ET

I'm thrilled to hear the feel good story about a very nice President who wants to connect with the people. Glad most responders are not cyncical.
