There's a name for public officials who are willing to fight the powerful in defense of the weak, even if it jeopardizes their careers: leaders.
Over the years, that's not a word that I've often heard used to describe Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, President-elect Barack Obama's choice for secretary of Homeland Security.
Napolitano is an able politician, but her leadership skills have long been in doubt. That is especially true when it comes to the radioactive issue of immigration, which is sure to come up during her confirmation hearing Thursday.

January 12th, 2009 3:51 pm ET If she alienated the extremes on both sides of the case then she couldn't have done that bad. Telling the difference between citizens and illegals shouldn't be that difficult; citizens can show citizenship papers or birth certificates. Illegals can't. Someone just needs to say who is in charge of the exercise and whose rules the investigation goes by and who in the field is the person in charge – after that most things should be pretty straightforward. |

January 12th, 2009 6:12 pm ET NO Napolitano is not ready to be incharge of homeland security,Untill she is ready to be an American first. She will have enforce laws that she ignored as a governor, and arrest Illegals. Its a sad thing that someone so weak on Border Security would be chosen as Homeland Security head. There is a name for officals who are willing to fight the powerful in defense of the weak. Who the hell are they talking about US weak Americans or the Illegals,What about ILLEGAL DON'T THEY UNDERSTAND??? |
