MaryBeth   December 10th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Hi, Anderson. Whenever you have time to join is fine. You have more important things to do. :-)

Brandi - bottom of the boot   December 10th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

goodevening all, i am so excited about the PiP tomorrow nite!

i cant believe anderson went into the water and OUTSIDE the cage, that must have been awesome! i envy you!

Rikki, Fargo, ND   December 10th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Good evening Anderson, Erica and Fellow bloggers! Happy Wednesday!

Rick   December 10th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Is there a possible connection between Gov. Blagojevich's threat to boycott B of A and his abrupt arrest?

Mike, Syracuse NY   December 10th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Hi Anderson. hi Bloggers. Gee, wonder why Jesse Jr. felt the need to proclaim his innocence so quickly.

Dulcie - Denver   December 10th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Good evening Anderson and Bloggers!

I'm looking forward to Planet in Peril tomorrow night. My Tivo is set.

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   December 10th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

The Chicago governor whose name in Slavic means "family of thanks" (how ironic) needs to bow out.

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   December 10th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

This Governor mess keeps getting more complex. More twists and turns. What a shame we all have to have our Politicians let us down, once again!

Brandi - bottom of the boot   December 10th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

i cant believe all this stuff happening in Illinois. im just baffled by it all. there doesnt seem to have even been an attempt to cover it up.

CaseyJ - Palm Springs, CA   December 10th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Blagojevich reminds me of Dan White. Not only because of his looks but because of how his behavior is being described by colleagues and detractors.

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   December 10th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

I agree Betty Ann. He should have resigned last night.

jackie Chino Hills, CA   December 10th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

good evening anderson, erica and bloggers. oh what a night! hehe

can't wait for planet in peril tomorrow night :)

Stacy   December 10th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

I don't know much about Jackson Jr., but it doesn't seem like there's any real evidence he did anything wrong. Blegojevich's word isn't exactly credible.

Monica M. Williams   December 10th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

This Illinois Senate Seat Scandal is great high stakes political drama you cannot make up. “There is something rotten in Demark.” And guess what? It’s not just the governor. Just like that great Shakespearian drama there is way too many shady characters to choose from. So I think I will wait for the soon to be released book. Ops, my bad. I mean movie exposing the real story. I think it will be titled “The Illinois Senate Seat Scandal: Will the Real Scum Bag Please Stand Up!” Let me know 360 team when it comes out. I’m much too busy these days keeping tabs on the Wall Street thieves with no congressional oversight. I’m only human. I can’t keep track of everything. : )

Mike, Syracuse NY   December 10th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Wow, why hire an attorney? Jesse sure acts guilty.

Kent   December 10th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

all this nonsense about Illinois is alarming!!!
I guess McCain was right about Illinois.
I always thought Illinois was so clean!

Megan Dresslar (Shoreline, Wa)   December 10th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Hellooo Anderson, Erica and best bloggers
Rick,
Yes he was arrested last night of sell senate....

elisabeth meier   December 10th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

why does the gov has to resign? I would think he kicked out himself so that there is no question about that he is through with his job ?? he?

MaryBeth   December 10th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Brandi: Corruption is so rampant here in IL and expected by the populace that there's no need for a cover up.

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   December 10th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

I think there is a lot more to this Chicagogate thing than we think.

CaseyJ - Palm Springs, CA   December 10th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Mike, Jesse Jr. was identified as "#5." That's why. Wouldn't you?

Rikki, Fargo, ND   December 10th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Not all of our politicians are letting us down. Like Mr. Gergen said last night this is not the norm for politicians.

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   December 10th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Lorie Ann~ You are right too. How dissapointing this story is!

Brandi - bottom of the boot   December 10th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

ahem, was he ever actually serving the People of Illinois, or just himself?

Sandra Robertson, Georgia   December 10th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Good evening Anderson and Erica. We have stormy weather here in Ga. tonight. Hope I can stay connected. The Illinois governor story is very ugly, but I'm afraid it's going to get uglier in days to come. Look forward to Planet In Peril tomorrow night.

Larry   December 10th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Good evening Anderson & fellow bloggers.

My, that was quite the campaign speech by Jesse Jackson Jr. to impress on the population of Illinois his qualifications to fill the senate seat vacated by pe-obama.

Kent   December 10th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

I think this auto bailout is a trojan horse - I hope thats the right expression!!!

Anyhoooo, be careful what you wish for, you just might get it!!

Its my party and I'll cry if I want to, cry if I want to, cry if I want to......
you would too if it happened to you!

Vanessa, El Paso,TX   December 10th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

I agree w/ Lorie Ann Our politicians @ work.....letting us down again? So if he was arrested why was he back @ work? And would do you think, Anderson, what is gonna happen to him? other than jail time

Minou, New York City   December 10th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

hi all.
That gov Blago. hasn't resigned yet despite the embarrassing evidence, is proof of his arrogance and ignorance.

Mike, Syracuse NY   December 10th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

So who was the advisor that Blago wanted to call? Why not name names? Where's Obama's transparency?

Brandi - bottom of the boot   December 10th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

@ mike, im sure Mr. Jackson has an attorney that handles most of his business and advises him regularly on things.

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   December 10th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Kent~ Trojan is right but I don't think it is a horse. We are getting screwed with all these bailouts! LOL

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   December 10th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

I think Obama is going to keep quiet about this until more facts come out.

Dulcie - Denver   December 10th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

I grew up in Illinois and sadly, political corruption is nothing new. This is on a whole new order of magnitude, though!

Personally, I happen to think Blogo is mentally ill. He didn't even try very hard to hide it. Wow.

Paolo   December 10th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

Hi Anderson! I think it will prudent for all candidates who talked to or were approached by the governor, including candidate # 5 to decline the senate seat to avoid controversy.

Stacy   December 10th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

I don't know if the governor is smoking glue, but he's definitely smoking something. Or he's mentally ill.

Michelle Brown   December 10th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

This guy is a crook, He should be sidelined until the case is over. We can pay him while of leave, however, he will loose all his powers, and if/when he is found guilty, he will have to pay the money back.

If us normal people did this, the punishment would be heavy. I am outraged as a citizen that an elected official can get away this. Again, the privilaged persons get free passes to abuse their power, and screw over the citizens of American.

Shame on all elected officials. I should withold income tax, until my gov't can proove they are monitoring and cracking down on wrong doings.

Bea   December 10th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

Hello Bloggers. Obama is also in charge of making sure justice is done in this country, Why do media dismiss that and suggest he ought to just talk about ongoing criminal investigations. Do they not accept that a president's comments could affect the outcome – and possibly even be seen as obstruction of justice if they are the wrong kind of comments. Jessica Yellen's report is so cynical.

CaseyJ - Palm Springs, CA   December 10th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

"Chicagogate"...I like that JoAnn! Thanks!

elisabeth meier   December 10th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

Mr. Obama involved? why should he be interested in selling his seat ? you really think he is that stupid? I cant wait what else story will come out about Mr. Obama before Jan 20

Mike, Syracuse NY   December 10th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

CaseyJ, actually, no if the Feds were saying publically that I wasn't involved, and I KNEW I wasn't involved, I wouldn't need an attorney.

lynn   December 10th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

It is ironic that at the same time as the press is calling the Governor an idiot they are treating his comments as if they are the truth and questioning the motives of politicians who are not under investigation.

I also question the presses comments that PE Obama isn't saying "enough". He is not under investigation and will speak when he feels it is appropriate. You have no idea if there are things going on behind the scenes that need to be worked out before publuc statements can be made.

The press is too impatient and spends too much time on speculation, innuendo and quite frankly too full of their own self importance.

Janine from PA.   December 10th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

Good evening Mr. Cooper and 360.
Why is this story on the governor constantly called "breaking news" isn't it breaking when it is first reported and now kind of getting old and part of regular news? And why is it breaking or shocking or anything? A corrupt politician should never be a surprise. Sad but true.
Or am I just too much of a cynic?

Belinda   December 10th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

I'm not sure what the RNC expected Obama to say? He said that he did not have contact with him and I think it was prudent to say that instead of we because he cannot know what all of his staff had said. I think now he can say we if that is the case because he had a chance to check.

LOL Anderson!!! Smoking glue.

Don, WA   December 10th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

I like Obama but wow there's been a whirlwind of corruption all around him. Maybe it's just part of being in Chicago and the chicago way – I see Obama as very clever and knowing of his environment – I think he learns from it and is preparing to defeat it – kind of like an undercover agent.

Val   December 10th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

I am a big Obama supporter and I hope he can find a way to approach this situation about the gov. and not appear to be evasive.

Alex Ford   December 10th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Its hard to believe that Barrack Obama can be from the same state. Do you see any connection with obama and this scandal

Brandi - bottom of the boot   December 10th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

what exactly is the big deal about Obama wanting to use his middle name during the swearing in? its his name and its a tradition. its not an issue when the name happens to be more common, like bob, or any other name.

Jacqui Chan   December 10th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

it would be nice if Jackson is found to b insouciant – He seems like a good man and I was just starting to believe in politicians...

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   December 10th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

I can't wait to hear what Obama has to say tomorrow. This is a real compound cluster. . .

CAROLYN JONES   December 10th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

hi anderson! this seems like deja vu, president eclect obama hasn't had a chance to get all the way into the office before scandals. obama has been trying to get the country ready for a chance for hope. bloggy needs to step down he a nut case. jackson is his own man, he said one time he said many that he wanted the senate job. but he never said he would pay for it. this is drama i was in hopes that a black man would gat the seat because obama was the only black senator.

Stacy   December 10th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

@Mike: People will talk and make assumptions no matter what. Maybe he's just trying to be careful. He may be guilty as sin, but I'm in no way convinced of that right now as the facts stand.

Chris   December 10th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Thought Illinois was clean? – five govs in prison & now add Blago

Rezko, Blago and Obama are all good political friends.

Belinda   December 10th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Mike, you realise that the Feds ran this investigation and not the Obama team, right? So how do you expect Obama to be "transparent" when he wasn't conducting anything. He has been transparent in his plans and picks. As for the transparency with this situation, it just happened yesterday and Obama was meeting Gore....as everyone seems to have forgotten.

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   December 10th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Obama is going to be president, he better know what his staff is doing and saying!

Mike, Jacksonville, FL   December 10th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

At what point will the American public realize that or politicians are simply corrupt? We have bread professional politicians and this is the result! I believe that the American public has become so numb and unconcerned with our politicians we've lost what our fore fathers created and gave to us.

Patti   December 10th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Obama and Blago are not friends. They don't like each other. They are not even colleagues. They serve the same state by public office. Blago did not campaign for Obama. He did not get an invitation to Obama's election day celebrations. He did not speak on hehalf of Obama. Any deviant connection between these two is a reach.

Larry   December 10th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Who campaigned for him to become governor?

Erica Hill
CNN
  December 10th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

hi, everyone
what a mess!

Kent   December 10th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Jesse Jackson wants the Senate seat so much, it was embarrassing listening to him speak!!
Jackson sure acts like he would pay for it!
Has Jackson no self discipline????

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   December 10th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Blago knows who that "emissary" was that's for sure.

Renzo Soriano   December 10th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Does this sound mob related. Looks suspicious to me. Why is no one mentioning the house deal connection? I voted for Obama but I still think he's shady.

Derrick   December 10th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

The campaign's over. What if he did speak to the governor? so what. Do you think a majority democratic legislature will make any issue out of this. The press and the republicans won't be happy until Obama is drawn into this situation some way no matter how.

He's the president of the United States. Let Illinois take care of it's own problems. It's a state issue.

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   December 10th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Hi Erica!
Mess might be an understatement! What else can go wrong?
Merry Christmas I guess!

Jana, Indiana   December 10th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Why didn't Obama call for Blago resignation yesterday?

Ken in NC   December 10th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Good evening Anderson and Erica and all Bloggers. Gonna be interesting tonight. Sad to say about J.Jackson Jr is involved in this mess in Illinois and it is going to cost him dearly but I do not think Obama is involved.

Yolanda   December 10th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Unfortunately yes, us in Chicago have grown to expect this behavior from our politicians..... but we ask for it! He was voted in a second time even as rumors of his scandalous behavior were circulating..... he's been under investigation for years, and had turned out to be even cockier than could be seen during his TV appearances.... and I really think its too early to speculate if any of these Candidates #1, 2, or whatever had any knowledge of this. I would imagine that tons of audiotape and documents need to be analyzed. I can see Jesse Jackson Jr. making his statement in an attempt to keep the press from uber speculation.

tina   December 10th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

anderson,i didnt vote for obama but the way he has treated by the press is shameful.
the prosecutor clearly said obama has not been implicated but the press clearly wants a scandal.
i just lost my job and i am hoping the president elect help us out,to distract his team with someone else scandal is mind buggling.
Bush ruined this country for 8yrs i didnt hear this kinda nonsence from you anderson.

Jolene, St. Joseph, MI   December 10th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

There is just something fishy about this whole Blagojevich scandal. Can't wait for the indictment so we can learn more. Glad that senators are calling for him to resign. This guy shouldn't still be running the state.

lynn   December 10th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

A person was on Campbell Brown who was a Chicago prosecutor and knows Chicago politics well. He says there are two types of politicians in Illinois from both parties: the "good old boys" and the "reformers". He contends that Obama is one of the reformers and I believe Jesse Jackson, Jr. is as well.

CaseyJ - Palm Springs, CA   December 10th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Stacy, one thing is for sure. Mr. B is a real piece of work.

When are we going to hear more about his "darling" wife? I understand she has quite a reputation all on her own, AND her father, too.

Melissa, Hanover Park, IL   December 10th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

I would LOVE for someone to mention, on a national level, that, in addition to his delusions of granduer with regards to the senate seat that Begloevich has been traveling to and from Springfield, the IL capital, on a daily basis because his darling wife would not move into the governors mansion. He shouldn't get a deal on the senate seat, he should get a 1099 from the citizens of IL.

Sherrol in Canada   December 10th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

I'm not surprised Jesse Jr's name is out there. He had been lobbying for that senate seat for weeks. Let's hope his ambition didn't mar his better judgement.

ashley - willis, tx   December 10th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

That Illinois Gov just caused all politicians in his state to run scared! I wonder who he's going to bring down with him...on an awesome note, it's snowing here, freakin weird....

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   December 10th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

Obama is always basing his moves on what others do. Shouldn' t a president be capable of taking a stand and making a decision on his own?

Brandi - bottom of the boot   December 10th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

i dont see the connection between obama and 'the idiot' (thanks david gergen). of course they will have had contact, but obama has no control over the actions of another person.

Angela P.   December 10th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

I don't think President Elect Obama could have been more transparent yesterday because he did not have all of the facts about the implications circling around the Illinois governor. I believe that given the controversy of the matter, he has to be careful with what he saids so not to get wrapped up into the drama.

Thomas   December 10th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

I can't believe that the Republicans are trying to play "scandal by association" on the president Elect, in connection to Blogojevich. The President elect is the very antithesis of the kind of behavior alleged on the governor.

elisabeth meier   December 10th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

could anyone pls ecucate me who has to elect Jesse Jackson or any other person to follow on mr. obamas seat? the senate itsself? the gov????????? illinois citizens? if not they, why not?

Rhett from Chicago   December 10th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

At the watercooler, in the cafe, at the gym... everyone in Chicago, democrat or republican, isn't surprised that Blagojevich was corrupt – only at his blazen gutzpah. I think non-Chicagoans need to realise that this guy was *bad news* for a long time, Obama wouldn't have been around him because nobody wanted to be. Reason for Blagojevich to win in '06 because he ran against another loser (Topinka) and a Green party candidate. He won by default. Blagojevich isn't liked, never was liked. Obama is clear and he hasn't addressed it yet because it is so obvious to anyone in Chicago... give him a break.

Kent   December 10th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

Cripe sake!
How the heck did Blago become Governor?
Everyone says he has no friends and is a sociopath!
Something is FISHY!!!

Paula, Colorado   December 10th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Anderson,
Hi! It seems like Obama would have limited knowledge of the situation in Illinois–after being so focused on the Presidential campaign for an extended time.

Megan Dresslar (Shoreline, Wa)   December 10th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

hi, everyone
what a mess!
Yeah..... of course.... it mess up with governor, what he was doing wrong thing to do..... Erica

CurtisJo   December 10th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Everytime I hear someone refer to "Chicago-style politics," I always think of organized crime (especially Capone). What an awful stigma for Chicago.

Rikki, Fargo, ND   December 10th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

I don't think we should let this 'taint' our views of Obama just because he too was a representative of the state of Illinois.

Terri Whyte Oakville, Canada   December 10th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

hi Anderson , I wish people would stop trying to find something to condem MR. OBAMA. I do not believe President Elect Obama has done anything wrong and only wants what is best. He will be one of the GREATEST Presidents of all time!

Sherwood Simpson,Jamaica   December 10th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Hi Anderson. Its my first time.Love your show.Keep up the good work.Your program is very informative for alot of persons here in Jamaica and world wide.

Rob   December 10th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

If you don't think that any of these people (Blagojevich, Obama etc.), didn't have to pass through Mayor Daley to get their foothold in their Illinois political career, then you don't know much about Illinois politics. I only hope that President-elect Obama has the guts to keep Fitzgerald as the federal prosecutor.

Sherrol in Canada   December 10th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Blago is definitely off his rocker and I mean that seriously. He's way too arrogant and egotistical to be 'sane'.

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   December 10th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Let's be honest, has Obama's Chicago "connections" ever thoroughly been investigated by anyone? Except for Drew's reports I haven't heard a thing about them.

Bea   December 10th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Look for Fitzgerald to make the Governor's wife testify against him! Ha!

Kristin   December 10th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

I agree with David. Obama is someone who has fought against such corruption and the Governor said very unkind words about Obama not cooperating with him on the wire taps. People need to get the facts before they judge or jump to incorrect conclusions.

Patti   December 10th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Blago's wife has a mouth like a "trucker"? Anderson you may mean "sailor" LOL

Your apology to truckers accepted on behalf of my uncle.

John Bergquist Newtown, CT   December 10th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Chicago politics seems to be corrupt, by nature. I think it speaks well for Obama that he has risen above the corruption. But there will be lingering questions simply because he needed to have casual contact with many of these people on day to day basis

William   December 10th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

What ever happened to "innocent until proven guilty" The statements which were released could have a different meaning if it were in an other context. He is probably guilty but I can wait and give him his day in court
Could Candidate #5 also be Client #9 ?

CaseyJ - Palm Springs, CA   December 10th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

JoAnn, Obama is a consensus or team builder. That's a great way to lead...leaving your ego at the door and listening to all sides.

Kristin   December 10th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Thank you Angela and Thomas for talking sense and reason.

Jolene, St. Joseph, MI   December 10th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I can't believe the Big 3 bailout isn't resolved yet. If the Republicans get their way, sounds like Congress might have to work the weekend!

Melissa, Hanover Park, IL   December 10th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Being from IL, I am so happy to finally see this guy get caught. He is awful. As I type this, Lou Dobbs commercial "Doesn't anyone deserve a government that works?" just came on. Ironic.

Paolo   December 10th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Obama ran on change. But what will make his presidency interesting is that he built his political career in a city with a reputation for you know what. So running on change and coming from Chicago shows how bold Obama can get.

Bill Williams   December 10th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I like Barack Obama and I voted for him but he cannot seem to shed the stench of his personal past associates, some of whom are tainted by the corruption of the Chicago political machine. An ill wind always blows stink and it's starting to smell a little. For the good of the country let's hope it changes direction.

Linda Bresee   December 10th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

This Governor has corruption written all over his face. And what about his wife with her garbage mouth. What ever happened to officials
in this country who made us proud and were upstanding citizens.

I am sick to my stomach at this revolting mess!!!!

Martie   December 10th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I think everyone can agree that this is just one more thing no one needed now. Only time will tell whether or not the uncertainty that has now been created will affect the new administration as it attempts to move forward. I have a feeling that a lot of political capital has just been destroyed, despite what David says.

Betsy,Buckley WA   December 10th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

This Illinois corruption is a huge strain to the states polictical scene. I cannot believe it was just Blagovich involved in tragedy that is unfolding, how many more are to fall because of this nightmare. How many years do you get for corruption?

CAROLYN JONES   December 10th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

im puzzled if the fbi went thru the hasle to tape and tap why not the gov office?

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   December 10th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

Checked his cake for a wire tap~ Good one Anderson! LOL

Mike, Syracuse NY   December 10th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

If Obama's staff was talking to Blago, and he didn't know, it begs the same type of question I heard about McCain over and over: If he can't control his staff, how can he control the country?

MaryBeth   December 10th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

I wonder if we would be hearing all this stuff about "Chicago-style politics" if he had moved to Springfield like he should have. The rest of the state hates Chicago enough already, him not moving to the capital has just added fuel.

Dulcie - Denver   December 10th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

Good hear from you David Gergen. I tend to agree with you. Just because Obama came out of Illinois politics doesn't make him dirty. Frankly, I think if the McCain could have found *anything* they would have used it.

Sandra, Ga.   December 10th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

Here's another one Anderson. Mrs. Blago cusses like a sailor. Sorry sailors.

Jackie Rodriguez   December 10th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

Blagojevich needs to just resign and call it a day. Why should we think that his wife, the trucker, has any integrity and why would anyone care about anything she has to say ? Lets face it, he is guilty, hes on tape.... despite what the trucker says.. the man is guilty.

Dan, Denver, CO   December 10th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

All along I have been opposed to bailouts. On second thoughts not providing the auto companies help will only hurt the employees, which everyone seems to overlook.

I think an initial or partial installment of a bigger bailout is a great compromise – sort of a trial, dry run. This will provide a sneak preview into what the auto companies will do in future. I hope that the senate supports it!

lynn   December 10th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

JoAnn: Obama ran one of the best campaigns in history, is putting together a transition team and cabinet approved by 75% of people polled by CNN and NBC...I think he is doing all right in the decision dept.

Just because the press and the Republicans are all wanting something said doesn't mean Obama has to jump!! He is an intellignet, thoughtful man who will say what needs to be said when it is time...that's why he is the President Elect and 299, 999, 999 other Americans aren't!!

Suseth - FL   December 10th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

Everyone is nit picking to find some dirt on Obama. Not because he came from a corrupt state means he is the same.

Carla Donoho   December 10th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

As a resident of Illinois, we have been plagued by the insanity of our governor. The Chicago machine is a huge deal and I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned more in the presidential debates. Those of us who live in So. Illinois must suffer from the corruption of Chicago. Heartbreaking!

Yolanda   December 10th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

I agree with Rhett, its unfortunate that he was voted in because we really had no better choices.... I mean Topinka? Really? There was no way.... so there, we needed to have SOMEONE, and he'd already been there for 4 years.... So that's why he was voted in. I can only imagine what the people outside of Illinois must think of us Illinoisians voting him in again!

Roland   December 10th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

the rnc are always waiting for obama to trip then they say, gotcha. What do you expect obama to do? obama is a very calculative and wise politician who measures his words. Thank God there's a distance between them. Remember, no drama obama.

CaseyJ - Palm Springs, CA   December 10th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

Mike, you're really grasping for straws tonight...

Sherrol in Canada   December 10th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

I agree with David G., Pres-elect Obama should have called for Blago's resignation yesterday, ahead of everyone else. That would have shown really strong & true leadership.

I hope he's able to right the ship during his press conference tomorrow. He owes it to all of us that support him (and non supporters) to 'clear the air'.

Brandi - bottom of the boot   December 10th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

ha! his wife has a 'sailor mouth' like patrick and spongebob!

Pati, Stacy, where are you? lol

Ben   December 10th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

Mr. Anderson: Once again the media has come to the aid of President elect. As much as he may be innocent, it is fair to allow the investigation continues.

Megan Dresslar (Shoreline, Wa)   December 10th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

Checked his cake for a wire tap~ Good one Anderson! LOL
Yeah! I agree with you..... BettyAnn LOL! I like it....

Rikki, Fargo, ND   December 10th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

Blagojevich really does need to step down, regardless of how far this goes, he is not going to be able govern effectively if at all

Jacqui Chan   December 10th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

this is Planet in Peril part III right not part II?

pati mc., camp hill, pa   December 10th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

How do these people get elected into office. His wife is a mess too. Could no one see these people for what they are? Yike,. talk about the definition of dysfunctional!

Let's face it, you just cannot make this stuff up! Good job tonite gang.

elisabeth meier   December 10th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

I have still a question for this so called bailout.... I find the decision so far not to bad, including this bizarre czar, who hopefully is not Mr Wagoners golf-partner, one of his schoolmates or collegue friends. So the waves are calming down, Mr Bushs administrations left space for a new decision by mr. Obama, BUT: why was it impossible for these big3 to get a bailout about such an amount by their banks, who got 700-800 bn $ ???

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   December 10th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Why would anyone get in bloody waters with a shark? You ask Anderson? I guess politics and chumming have more in common than we could imagine.

Ken in NC   December 10th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Anderson that is a question I would ask you. WHY Would Anyone Get Into The Water While It Is Full Of Sharks?

Jolene, St. Joseph, MI   December 10th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Anderson, you may have gotten into the blood infested waters to dive with the sharks, but when you got out, you sure did look like you were excited about the experience! I'm sure your heart was a thumping!

David Gergen   December 10th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Hello everyone - thanks for joining up in the conversation tonight. The sooner this idiot governor of Illinois leaves the stage and the voters there elect someone new to the Senate, the better for the country. We have much bigger questions to keep our eyes on - like the auto bailout and the continuing loss of jobs.

Am glad to see tonight how many of you believe that Obama is among the leading reformers of Illinois, not in the other camp. I agree. To keep that reputation clean, I believe it is really important for him to have his team disclose exactly what conversations they have had with the governor and everyone around him.

Thanks again for being here tonight.

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   December 10th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Anderson, Based on what I heard coming out of Patricia Blagojevich's mouth, she's no lady!

Bea   December 10th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Look at the upside of this. It was a Chicago Prosecutor who brought this dude down!

Lori from IL   December 10th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Andrerson, Erica, Bloggers and All –

It's been another wild day here in IL. I can't believe all the discussion about PE Obama and Blago - this is an on-going investigation and we don't know what's going on behind the scenes as far as the Obama/staff and Peter Fitzgerald's office. Fitzgerald made it very clear yesterday the Obama was NOT involved. I wouldn't be surprised if it was someone from Obama's circle that initially turned Blago in - thus allowing Fitzgerald's office the opportunity for the wire tap approval.

The Trib had a good article today about the two different Democratic political paths in IL. Obama comes from one - Blago from the other.
Obama clearly is not very connected with Blago evidenced by his many actions barring Blago from involvement in his campaign/convention.

Just got home from dinner out tonight with friends - we all work/worked for our local State university. This was the first and main topic of conversation tonight was - Blago. We all knew it was not a matter of if he would be convicted but rather when. He is not well liked in IL and hasn't been for quite some time.

As far a Obama speaking out, his campaign and transition to date has shown him to be methodical and deliberate in his decisions and public statements. Why would we expect him to react differently in this situation? I'm impressed by someone who gathers relevant information before reacting to a situation.

Layne   December 10th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

It's been made clear that President Elect Obama had severed most of his ties with the governor of Illinois prior to any of this; wouldn't it be easier to get to the bottom of the situation if the focus remained on the governor instead of planning an all-out witch hunt?

Brandi - bottom of the boot   December 10th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

my daddy used to call a girl cussing a 'potty mouth'. lol

Vanessa, El Paso,TX   December 10th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

I'm just hoping his replacement is not a "politician" like Blago

Heather, Chicago   December 10th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

Welcome to the bizarre world of IL politics. Yesterday was a good day for IL citizens because the guy finally got caught.I think the main reason its corrupt is everyone is related. Blago got his start from his father-in-law, a powerful alderman. Otherwise he'd be a slimy 2nd rate attorney.

Richard Wells   December 10th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

I am a lifetime Chicago resident that has been closely following local political events since long before Gov. Blago's arrest yesterday.

President elect Obama was a US Senator. Blago is the Gov from the same state. Handshakes, joint news conferences, and similar personal encounters should not be interpreted as Obama's support for a a governor alleged illegal/corrupt activities.

Blago has been subject to federal scrutiny for the last 5 years. Obama has been scrutinized for his relationship with every local questionable character (Rev Wright, Ayers, Bernadette Dohrn, etc) since he first declared his candidacy. At this point, can't one conclude that if there really was a "business-like" relationship between Obama and Blago, this would have been brought to light and questioned long ago? Furthermore, the respected US Attorney has made it clear that Obama is not a subject of this investigation. Clearly the relationship between the two was at best professional and nothing more.

Michelle Brown   December 10th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Of course Obama will use his middle name, It is his name. He was elected with that name. I would be truly disappointed should he not us it.

I am trilled he is the Pres Elect, I voted for him ,and luv him for what he wants to do for America – bring equality, and accountability. Not using his middle name would suggest some type of embarrasment on his part. I would be shocking.

John Bergquist Newtown, CT   December 10th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Potti-mouthed Patti seems just as bad as her husband!

Jacqui Chan   December 10th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

well I curse alot a real lot but I am still a good person for lack of a less cheezy expression; I donate $ to good causes, am a vegetarian and rescue homeless/ hurt animals so point being- a potty mouth does not define one's character

Martie   December 10th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

I agree with Dulcie – Chicago doesn't make him dirty, but his quick correction from "we" to "I didn't have any contact", etc., together with the retractions of 2 of his staffers regarding the Blagojevich mess certainly didn't help insofar as credibility is concerned. Whatever happened to "I prefer not to comment until I've had a chance to review the complaint in order to accurately address whatever questions you may have."?

Stacy   December 10th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Wow. These people have watched too many mob movies. It's like they're caricatures and not actual people.

Kent   December 10th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

I dont care what happens, I feel sorry for Patty Blago.
She looks so innocent and cute!!
Whod a thunk she curses like a bloody sailor!

Brandi - bottom of the boot   December 10th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Hey David Gergen! its always nice to see and hear you!

Anderson, you got in and without the cage! i so wish i could have been there and done that too! im an adrenaline junkie i guess. LOL

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   December 10th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

I love the way Gary "bleeped" out that report!

Ashley, Kentucky   December 10th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Hi , Anderson
just thought id drop in && say hey .
tonight's show is going very good.
you always do a good job.
i can't wait to watch the plant in peril special .
well ttyl keep up the good job.

EJ,Dallas TX   December 10th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

I believe the governor should resign. This is the low of all lows. Anderson is also talking about the name Obama will use when he takes the oath. This is not news worthy, at all. His name is what is is, so what about it?

Suseth - FL   December 10th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

I agree David. This is unfortunate, but we should not get distracted by this dummy. The focus should be how to correct this disaster called the economy.

elisabeth meier   December 10th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Thank you Mr. Gergen. Do I get it right that the citizens elect someone new? The more idiotic is Mr. Idiot.

Rikki, Fargo, ND   December 10th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

What were you thinking, Anderson? Crazy! It would take a large sum of money to get me underwater with great white sharks!

Don, WA   December 10th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

I hope what we're seeing is the decline of the sceaming self-interest mind in politics – I'm hoping the new prez is an evolution.

Patti   December 10th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

And it seems like swimming in bloody waters with sharks is like being an honest politician in Chicago.

Jolene, St. Joseph, MI   December 10th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

David Gergen: You have a great point. Obama's team needs to disclose what was or was not discused with Blagojevich, et. all. They all have been too quiet. Time to speak up!

Erica Hill
CNN
  December 10th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

lori, i've learned a lot about so-called chicago politics from the over the past two days...and the information is sobering.

Maria   December 10th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Bea, the media holds Obama to a completely different standard. Even after Jackie Robinson, they are asking another black man to be P-E-R-F-E-C-T! And what exactly are we hoping to get by flying over peoples' homes when they are in the public eye? Another example of the disgusting MSM.

Sarah Chicago, IL   December 10th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

After seeing how far the nation has come after the election of President Obama, I'm surprised we're still discussing his middle name. Although we may associate the name "Hussein" with a ruthless dictator, it is simply a common Muslim name. Despite his Christian faith, his name's a part of his father's history. So what if he uses it? Haven't we gotten past that?

pati mc., camp hill, pa   December 10th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Oh, Anderson! If only I had known when I made my comment about being afraid of the sharks near the boat and here you were in the water with them, sans cage? Ey yi yi, dude!

Ok, admittedly I have to say that I would have gone for it as well. Once in a lifetime deal. Glad it had a happy ending. Sheesh!

Theyler   December 10th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

MaryBeth is absolutely correct. Corruption in Illinois is common place.
Questions:
Is corruption more ubiquitous in Illinois or are our politician more blatant?
Why is Transparency required in business, but not in politics?

Sherrol in Canada   December 10th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Thanks again for your ever confident and calming thoughts David Gergen. We're with you all the way here in Canada too.

Alex (Aliso Viejo)   December 10th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

For someone in an arms' length from white sharks, AC appears happy and was actually smiling. Very amusing, indeed! :)

David, Indiana   December 10th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

I agree Erica, and incredible mess. Also have enjoyed bits and pieces as you said of Planet and Peril that have aired already.

Jolene, it does seem like congress will be in session this weekend, at this point, working on the bailout. I think we're screwed if it doesn't pass, but at least so far it's made it through the house of representatives.

Val   December 10th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Did anyone ask George W. Bush if he would use his middle name? That's so silly.

Martie   December 10th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Thanks, Richard, for giving us the "skinny" on the situation in Chicago. I'd love to think that the Obama camp's stumbles on this situation can be chalked up to presidential inexperience.

Jackie Rodriguez   December 10th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

I love David Gergen !!! xoxo

Sherrol in Canada   December 10th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

Blago and his wife seem like two peas in a pod. It's their children I feel sorry for.

Sandra, Ga.   December 10th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

In hurricane season, he gets in the water with snakes swimming all around him. I'd prefer sharks but not without the cage.

Vig   December 10th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

I find it curious that the governor of Illinois is reported as having called Obama expletives when Obama, reportedly would not support his senate seat sale. If Obama is so well known as Mr. Innocence then why did the corrupt governor have such a reaction?

Ken in NC   December 10th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

David G. I agree with you about Obama coming clean with all the contacts his people may have had with this Idiot but there may be some things the US Attorney may not want known yet. I am sure there is more information that they have not made public yet because it was not necessary to secure the complaint against Governor Idiot.

Potti mouth is a good name for that woman. She curses worse than her idiot husband.

lynn   December 10th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

I don't get why PE Obama has to "clear the air" when it was stated exceedingly clearly by Fitzgerald that he is in no way involved in this investigation.

That people are even suggesting that he would have Fitzgerald step down really don't understand Obama and will not believe any good of him!!

Bea   December 10th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

No one has yet explaind to me why bankruptcy won't work. Could there be a combination of bankruptcy and a bailout, that is giving a loan in the context of bankruptcy?

Micci -Indiana   December 10th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

So Wallstreet banks got their bailout. The auto makers look like they will get their bailout. Which hogs do you suppose will be coming to the trough next?

Mike, Syracuse NY   December 10th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

What a hoot if Obama's seat went to a Republican in a special election.

Martie   December 10th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

Unfortunately, Chicago politics has always been sobering. You're just too young to remember the old Daley machine days of 40 years ago, Erica.

Stacy   December 10th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

The Republicans need to stop blocking the bailout. It's a bitter pill we have to swallow. Let's get on with it.

elisabeth meier   December 10th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

reconstruction plan within the next three months? shouldnt they already have it ? I mean if you are so close to bankruptcy you should have a plan already when you come up asking for money

pati mc., camp hill, pa   December 10th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

Frankly I was for a bailout, then against it. Now maybe I will be for it again. I do not want my new Saturn to become the next Studebaker. Hmmph!

OK Dana Bash is totally cool. She referenced Monty Python. Sweet!

Bea   December 10th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

Mike, there's no way Obama's seat would go to a Republican. Don't lose any sleep.

Minou, New York City   December 10th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

Pres elct Obama should use his middle name! It's his name!

Mary H. St. Louis, MO   December 10th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

She's back... the lady in the red t-shirt and the wild hair..

Max, Dallas, TX   December 10th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

I'm so glad Obama is using his middle name! It's a good name, no matter what uninformed individuals have to say about it.

Lori from IL   December 10th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

David Gergen –

Glad to see you blogging again tonight. You, too, were a topic of dinner conversation with friends tonight. We all got a charge out of you refering to Blago as the "idiot" governor.

Don, WA   December 10th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

"What's in a name?"

Rikki, Fargo, ND   December 10th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

I don't understand why this would even be a question...of course he is going to use his middle name during the inauguration...I never understood why his middle name was even an issue during the campaign...he obviously can't control what his name is.

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   December 10th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

What's in a name anyway?

Megan Dresslar (Shoreline, Wa)   December 10th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Hellooo David Gergen....
Nice see you on blog! I agree with your comment blog tonight.

Jeremy from Westmont, IL   December 10th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Like others from the Chicago area and Illinois, I too am not surprised by Blago's actions. One side not discussed much is that Illinois has such a weak Republican party that it's been noted in that the Democratic primary really is equivalent to the actual election. It's hard to keep that kind of single-party control in check. There's a lot of dirty stuff in Chicago, but if you can keep the streets shoveled, you can win an election. I guess what's sad for me is how unfazed I am by it all.

Regardless, I'm glad to see Blago go. Move over George, Rod's on his way.

Dulcie - Denver   December 10th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Man, it could be a real grim Christmas for autoworkers if the bill doesn't pass.

I tend to think that the UAW really needs to offer up something to make the bailout more palatable to politicians. It's going to take that anyway for there to be any kind of 'restructuring' of any consequence.

Suseth - FL   December 10th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Why is Obama's name still being a part of the newscast. What's up with that Anderson?

anderson cooper   December 10th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

the forgiveness this man who lost his family exhibitd was extraordinary today.

Don, WA   December 10th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Just remember AC – if the big shark gets too close and bitey looking – just flick him on the nose with your finger – they hate it when you do that.

Jolene, St. Joseph, MI   December 10th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

@David, Indiana: I agree, we will have a whole new level of "screwdom" (Note: Anderson came up with this word) if the Big 3 Bailout doesn't pass.

I can't believe the Republicans are trying to stop it. It's money to get them to March and they will have a "Car Czar" overseeing everything they do. Just pass it already!

John Bergquist Newtown, CT   December 10th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

I am glad that Obama is using his middle name. Even though he is Christian, he shouldn't have to be ashamed of his heritage.

Anne   December 10th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

I cant believe pre_elect tells the Governer to resign....As he forgotten he is not a president Yet untill he's sworn in

Ken in NC   December 10th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

Obama's middle name did not bother me during the campaign. What bothered me was the negative manner in which it was used by those that opposed him.

Like General Powell said, while he is not a Muslim, what if he was.

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   December 10th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

Bailout the little people!

Teresa   December 10th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

I am glad that we have a future President who will not allow the press or anyone else make say things impulsively. He is wise to get a proper amout of information before to speaking.

It;s time for us (americans) to grow up, have a little patience. We need to stop assuming that our PE is involved in everything that anyone he know or come in contact with does. He is not President yet, give him a chance.

pati mc., camp hill, pa   December 10th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

Forgiveness is a beautiful thing. Excellent example of an exemplary human being.

I saw this man who lost his family and everything on that F-18 crash earlier. Everytime I see him, I just wish there was something I could do.

He is a great example of dignity in a crisis.

Bea   December 10th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

That father/husband's statement just reminds us that not everyone is an idiot governor.

Michelle Brown   December 10th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

That man that lost his entire family to this tragic accident, is a really remarkable human being. I do not believe I could be that forgiving that quick,

I'd be wondering what were the other options, water, not a neighborhood . Were they more worried about saving the plane then human life.

Sherrol in Canada   December 10th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

I can't bear to watch this poor man who lost his family, it makes me weep.

His compassion and forgiving (of the pilot) nature brings to mind Nelson Mandela. God bless him and help him through the ordeal of losing his wife and 2 children.

Ben   December 10th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

Mr. Anderson, kind of odd and unusual. we overthrew one Hussein in Iraq and elected one with the same middle name. only in America!!!!

Megan Dresslar (Shoreline, Wa)   December 10th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Wow!!! there is big shark in the ocean!!! it is so amazing piece.......
Anderson,
You were so brave and you were going to the cage to see shark!!!! I am so afraid of shark!!!!! Can't wait see shark tomorrow night!

Martie   December 10th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

I love it when David speaks his mind – and he does it so well!

Brandi - bottom of the boot   December 10th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

yes Mr. Yoon was very amazing today. i think he is in shock still. i feel so horrible for him. the human spirit never ceases to amaze me.

Larry   December 10th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Obama didn't sever his ties with the Chicago political machine, he used them in his campaign team and now as part of his administration; eg David Axelrod, Rahm Emmanuel. etc.

Kent   December 10th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Cooper, where is that!!!
dude, where is that!!!!!!!!!!!!

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   December 10th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

As much as I fear sharks, they are an important part of our ecosystem. thanks 360 for the Planet in Peril series. You are wonderful for trying to help educate and stop the madness!
XO

David, Indiana   December 10th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Republican's and Dems will have to battle it out a bit on the the bailout, there is a clash, but the collapse of one or two of the big three would be catastrophic.

Val   December 10th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Good thing AC didn't see that video this week about the shark coming through the cage in Mexico. It was scary

Kristine   December 10th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

So cool with the sharks. I did this several years ago and it's an experience I'll never forget. To see how they move and act gave me an incredible respect for them. And YES, I'd so do this again!

Bill Tennison   December 10th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

Anderson! That Illinois governor is a son of a Blagojevich !!!
Planet in Peril looks cool. Bet you had fun doing the story. Will be watching tomorrow.

Minou, New York City   December 10th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

I once went whale watching. Although the wales were small, it was really "unsettling" to have them so close to the tiny boat I was in. It was breathtaking and a great experience I'll never forget.

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   December 10th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

Anderson, Mr. Yoon is such a gentleman. I am deeply sorry for his tragic loss.

Rikki, Fargo, ND   December 10th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

It was an amazing thing Anderson! I am always amazed by people who have everything taken away from them and are able to forgive and reach out. Just like the lady from Scream Bloody Murder who dines with the man who killed her entire family in Rwanda. It is truly amazing!

kim-chicago   December 10th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

It is sad that the entire muslim community is tainted by the acts of a few. I am glad Obama is using his middle name. Whether he likes it or not...it does make a statement. A long overdue statement.

Martie   December 10th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

What surprised me is how close Miramar is to residential areas. It is, after all, a fighter training school.

Lori from IL   December 10th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Erica,

In Chicago, politics is never boring - a full cast of colorful characters, but I feel this is a new low. While many have been convicted of wrong-doing, none have been so bold and/or stupid as Blago.

Anderson,

The shark segment is very interesting, but what were you thinking when you went diving without the cage? Looking forward to Planet in Peril tomorrow night.

jennifer   December 10th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

no comment on the governor, other than what a mess.

was that tool i heard on the lead in for the planet in peril sneak peak?

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   December 10th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Woo hoo Andeson! You almost became part of the food chain! Very brave!

Suseth - FL   December 10th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

How brave of you Anderson... Very impressive with the Sharks.

Sherrol in Canada   December 10th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

OMG Anderson, you're brave........Swimming with sharks, what next young man?

Toni M   December 10th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

I was reading about the 14 billion for the auto companies, and at the bottom of the online statement it said how "included in the bill is unrelated pay raise for Federal Judges???????? All I can say is "What makes the Federal Judges so special, that they can receive a raise."

jackie Chino Hills, CA   December 10th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

great strength...this man. may all his loved ones rest in peace.
remarkable and commendable...

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   December 10th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Anderson, Did you make the decision to swim with the sharks or did someone else volunteer you?

Stacy   December 10th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Anderson is a bit nuts. Just saying.

Imani from Maryland   December 10th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

I decided just to read tonight... ver busy... but i must say that i cold never do what the man who lost his family has done.

Jolene, St. Joseph, MI   December 10th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Love these teaser segments of PIP2, all of them end with you being at the edge of your seat! And I have to wait until tomorow to see what happens.....you guys are killing me!

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   December 10th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

I feel so sorry for Mr. Yoon. I hope he recieves the support he deserves.

Val   December 10th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Gosh, who does that? That man is so amazing. I agree, the poor pilot must be devastated. How do you move on after that?

Megan Dresslar (Shoreline, Wa)   December 10th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

the forgiveness this man who lost his family exhibitd was extraordinary today.
Anderson,
I agree with you...... My hearts goes to him lost his wife and family...... My thoughts and prayers with him!!! that is so horrible sight that plane crash into the house....

Mike, Syracuse NY   December 10th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Martie, When Miramar was founded, it wasn't built up like now.

Michelle Brown   December 10th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Anderson,

Why would u free dive with the Great Whites? What a risk. Glad u r safe, although, it seems such a crazy thing to do.

Buddy in california   December 10th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Very true Ann. He is not the President yet. But again, he has to distance himself and sound presidential. Good luck!

Maureen T   December 10th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Anderson,
when I see the clip of you swimming with the sharks I have to say I admire your guts! You are my hero Anderson! :)

Daisy, Houston   December 10th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Great interview with Scott Turow. A Gov. Blagojevich character would make for interesting reading.

I don't think Gov. Blagojevich will resign. If he has money problems, he's not about to give up what's probably now his only source of income. Besides that, not only does he come across as an idiot, but a delusional one at that.

Brandi - bottom of the boot   December 10th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

@ Michelle Brown,
I believe i heard earlier today that there was a schoolyard nearby as well. you cant always control a hunk of metal in the sky when the motor decides to stop, you can only do so much.

the thing that made my heart stand still during Mr. Yoon's statement today, the sound of the jets flying over and his pause to maintain composure. reminds me of a sound i cant stand that still makes my heart stop whenever i hear it. i really hurt for him because i know how haunted he will be.

John Bergquist Newtown, CT   December 10th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Anderson, this man's forgiveness is extraordinary. I would like to think I would do the same. I'm sure the pilot feels terrible about what happened and did everything in his power to avoid it

Joe Bridgeman   December 10th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

I admire David Gergen but I disagree with him about his comment that P.E. Obama needs to be more transparent. He already said twice that he has no contact with Gov. Blago. Why does he has to reveal everything about his transition team's dealing with Gov. Blago? This is nonsense. The Republicans can say whatever they want. If they have proof of any O's wrongdoing, show it. Otherwise, they and the media have no right to demand anything from P.E. Obama.

We do not need to fall fall this double standard, this "guilt-by-association" trap. Look, the republicans and the press have not demanded anything from the Republicans and the Bush administration for the last 8 years, and now all the sudden they want to know everything of this new administration. This is a return to the Bill Clinton's day when the Republicans and the press went after him for every little thing. Give us a break.

CAROLYN JONES   December 10th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

when you know god and read your bible, you have forgiveness in your heart it is better to forgive, than to carry hate.

elisabeth meier   December 10th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

I am with this poor man in san diego. I also lost three love ones within this year, but not all at the same time – so I had it more as a permanent shock. I am sorry for him

Judy Stage/Brooklyn MI   December 10th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Mr. Yoon, a Korean, understands that forgiveness, a spiritual law of the Universe, is the key to happiness. His ability to do this puts him far ahead of most of us on his journey on earth. If everyone followed his example there would be heaven on earth. May God bless him.

Rikki, Fargo, ND   December 10th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

So Anderson swims with sharks and Michael Phelps...but which took more guts?

Sherrol in Canada   December 10th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Even his pastor said he didn't know thid poor dear man had it in him to forgive so quickly and passionately.

Don, WA   December 10th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

I agree AC – about the forgiveness – poor guy with a family he can't talk with for awhile – and that poor pilot too – what a thing to live with – I hope they become friends. This was a very freak accident – a similar accident happened last year here close to where I live – it was in Oregon where a pilot crashed into a house during an air-show – it was an opposite situation though – the pilot died and the home was empty – thank goodness for the family at least.

Ayesha Faisal   December 10th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

What if Blagojevich wanted to spoil Jackson Jr.s chances of winning by creating this scandal. He might've tried to frame it so that the situation looked as if Jackson Jr. was to blame. He might've not wanted Jackson Jr. to be the next Obama.

Tracy   December 10th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

I agree with some of the other post regarding Obama using his middle name. I fail to realize why this is news. Barack Hussein Obama that is his name and that is what he should use. I'm sure his Kenyan family would be proud to hear him say it. I sure hope he has his Kenyan relatives. (his Grandmom & the sister that he's close to from Kenya up on the stage with him during his swearing in ceremony)
Unfortunately the media will watch his every move over the next four years. What amazes me is why people are taking their eyes off of George Bush as he makes his back door deals before he leaves office. MSNBC seems to be the only network that refuses to keep atleast one eye on Bush....and by the way with the attitude the Republicans are taking ever since the Obama won they will never regain power..The world is tired of a divided country. Jan. 20th please hurry and get here. May God Bless and Keep Obama and his family safe....

Anne   December 10th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

I can't wait to watch the planet in peril 2morrow....Wow! thanks cooper for keeping us inform about our planet....Job well down. Am watching you right now

David, Indiana   December 10th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

@Jolene, yep, thanks, get on with it. I agree about swimming with the sharks, Anderson seemed to be into it. The free diving would definitely get my heart a thumping.

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   December 10th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Carolyn~ forgiveness, love, and peace is the answer! tis the season! Keep it going!

lynn   December 10th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Most of the Republicans against the bailout loan come from states that have given huge incentives and tax breaks to foreign companies to build plants there. isn't that a type of bailout?? They are the ones who want workers to work for nothing, have no health care and no pension plan. It is them who will ruin the economy by destroying the middle class!!

Maureen T   December 10th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

My heart goes out to that gentleman who lost his family. God bless him.

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   December 10th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

It makes you wonder when such terrible things happen to such decent people.

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   December 10th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Mr. Yoon is making me cry. ;-(

Buddy in california   December 10th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Courage is what describes this man. He is a real human being. Such a beautiful family too.

Suseth - FL   December 10th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

I agree Anderson. He's extraordinary. Wow! So Calm.

ashley - willis, tx   December 10th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Ugh! I hate Wal-Mart!! I worked there for 2 years as a customer service manager, the things they teach you...in a freakin church no less!!! I hated when I had to go to those meetings there....grrrr!!!!! They don't care about anyone....

John Bergquist Newtown, CT   December 10th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

It brings tears to my eyes to listen to this man's courage during such a painful moment.

Minou, New York City   December 10th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

This poor man! What a beautiful and brave soul. I wish him the best in the world.

Gisselle - Houston TX   December 10th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

Good evening Anderson and Erica and fellow Bloggers,
Thank you for the awesome stories tonight. I am really touched by one in particular and I want to say that my deepest condolences go out to Mr. Yoon and his family. What a courageous man to have lost his loved ones in such a tragic way and to still find love and compassion in his heart to be forgiving. What a formidable individual!

pati mc., camp hill, pa   December 10th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

I think my heart just broke. But what an amazing person. God bless you Mr. Yoon.

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   December 10th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

Hearing Mr. Yoon's statement again brought tears to my eyes.

Michelle Brown   December 10th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

Applause for Wal-Mart. Finally a company proving they care for their employees more than the add'tl profit.

Great job Wal-Mart!

jackie Chino Hills, CA   December 10th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

it's never really clear why bad have to happen to good people...you just want to cry watching this...

elisabeth meier   December 10th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

what an inner strength... adorable

Dulcie - Denver   December 10th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

Very cool to see you dive with the sharks, Anderson. Really fabulous and I can't wait to see the whole show tomorrow.

Bea   December 10th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

Ah well, time to go soon. Anderson, don't forget that sharks like lean meat!

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   December 10th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

Mr Yoon has given us all an example to strive for. He showed so much strength, I hope and pray he'll find some peace.

LisaL - Canada   December 10th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

i think that even in my time of personal grief, i would still have to feel compassion for the pilot – the guilt he must feel would be so horrible – i would probably try to extend some sort of comfort to him as well.

however, it is easy to say what we THINK we would do. sometimes we don't know until we are actually tested, and we surprise ourselves.

Brandi - bottom of the boot   December 10th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

@ Jo Ann,

i learned to stop wondering why these things happen to decent people. that only brings you closer to the edge of sanity.

Martie   December 10th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Poor Mr. Yoon – so obviously still in shock. I hope the Korean community comes together for him when the horrible reality sets in.

Rikki, Fargo, ND   December 10th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

This is absolutely incredible. You can't really know how you are going to react to something until it happens but I'm not sure I could be that strong. Mr. Yoon is an incredible man and my heart goes out to him.

Joe Bridgeman, MA   December 10th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Betty Ann,
Mr. Yoon made me cried too

Christine   December 10th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

I can watch with tears in my eyes, but a doubt in my mind. When will we hear about the multi million dollar lawsuit? We all know it will come. And no, I do not believe any amount of money can take away the pain of tragic death. I believe all lawyers who go for these kind of cases should be caged.

Hillary B.   December 10th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

My heart bleeds for this man who lost his family on Monday. He must be in so much pain right now, but to look beyond that and offer forgiveness and kind words to that pilot, wow, that's amazing.

jennifer   December 10th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

God bless Mr. Yoon. what a brave man.

Brandi - bottom of the boot   December 10th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

i believe i will end my nite with mr yoon and some reflection.

goodnite all and god bless.

Andre R. Newcomb   December 10th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

The pilot ejected too early. There were two fields only two rows of houses away to the left of the plane and directly ahead of the plane. There's going to be an investigation and I think that the pilot is at fault.

Andy of Sierra Vista, Arizona

Maria   December 10th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

My prayers are with that beautiful young man who lost his family. What a strong human being. He asked for help in dealing with the tragedy and I pray that he gets the help and love he needs. But, he has so much to teach us. My thoughts are with him. And the pilot.

Ken in NC   December 10th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

I feel so hurt by Mr. Yoon's loss. I know many people just wish there was something they could do to help take some of his pain from him. I would do it myself if I knew how to do it. He is suffereing so much. About all we can do is pray for him and his family back in korea.

Daisy, Houston   December 10th, 2008 10:57 pm ET

My heart breaks for Mr. Yoon's loss. He's far more evolved than most of us when it comes to forgiveness.

Donna   December 10th, 2008 10:57 pm ET

How can we send notes of condolence to this extraordinary man, Mr. Yoon? His remarks were nothing less than spiritually heroic. Our hearts ache for him. I know I am not alone in wanting to express our deep condolences for his tremedous loss.

Fay, CA   December 10th, 2008 10:57 pm ET

That Mr. Yoon can speak publicly at all after such a horrible tragedy is amazing enough, but the grace and forgiveness he displayed is staggering.

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   December 10th, 2008 10:57 pm ET

Way to end on a high note with the shot! where do I find one of those? LOL

Lori from IL   December 10th, 2008 10:57 pm ET

Wow - Mr. Yoon's capacity for forgiveness is amazing. My heart goes out to him.

Good show tonight, Andrson, Erica and fellow bloggers.

Marie Lussoro and Mom   December 10th, 2008 10:57 pm ET

My heart and prayers go to don yoon and his beautiful family. looking at the photos brought me to tears . i pray that God give him strength and courage to carry on. their is no closure but hopefully a sense of his family being at peace. resting in God's presence will help him,i pray for this.

Michelle   December 10th, 2008 10:58 pm ET

Congrats on the podcast. I download it when I miss
the show.

jackie Chino Hills, CA   December 10th, 2008 10:58 pm ET

have a good night everyone :)

pati mc., camp hill, pa   December 10th, 2008 10:58 pm ET

Wait!!!! I want a Lou Dobbs Commemorative Dustbuster! Anderson, you big tease! Where do we call to get one.....????????????

Fern, MD   December 10th, 2008 10:58 pm ET

As for using B. Hussein Obama's middle name: I selected my son's name for the meaning it possesed (Ahmad = Most Praise worthy) (Hassan = Most Honorable). Hassan, and Hussein are very simular in meaning. However, after he had been in the Navy for a year or two I was asked to verify his American status. I am glad that Obama's middle name lifted the weight of my sincere choice to give my son a name he could live up too "Most Honorable"! My son lives up to his, and (Ha Ha) Obama has too!

Maureen T   December 10th, 2008 10:58 pm ET

Thank you Anderson for making me smile with the shot! My emotions were all over the place earlier! Good night dear Anderson! Love ya! xo

Megan Dresslar (Shoreline, Wa)   December 10th, 2008 10:58 pm ET

Mr. Yoon is making me cry and it touched my heart!!!!!
Good night Anderson, Erica and best bloggers and David Gergen...
Have a great night and sleep tight!!!
See you tomorrow night and on Friday night!
Day of the shot with Obama plate ads! no ads! LOL!

ken   December 10th, 2008 10:59 pm ET

Maybe we can learn something from the gentleman that lost his family in the jet crash. He doesn't blame the pilot or screaming lawsuit for an accident that was unavoidable.Maybe we learn for him!

Marjan   December 10th, 2008 10:59 pm ET

wow! I watched Mr. Yoon and was just crying...I feel for him as I have a family of my own and can't imagine having to go through such a horrible experience. May you find strength and courage to move forward!

Jolene, St. Joseph, MI   December 10th, 2008 10:59 pm ET

Congrats AC360 on having the best iTunes downloads with the podcast! I must say, I totally enjoyed the show tonight. Keep it coming!
