November 18th, 2008 11:34 am ET I wanted to write because it is apparent that you do not have adequate enough knowledge about the auto industry to be speaking about it on national television. I have had the privilege of serving as General Manager of my father's Pontiac, Cadillac, GMC, Lincoln, and Mercury dealership for 8 years. I was disgusted with your comment that "GM has nothing" when it comes to fuel efficiency and technology. If you had done your research, you would have found out that GM has the following: 1.)more car lines that get over 30 mpg than any other manufacturer, 2.)Flex fuel vehicles, 3.)Active Fuel Management giving their trucks and suvs better fuel efficiency than Toyota, 4.)Hybrid technology, 5.)the new Pontiac G3 (one of the small cars you were referring to), 6.) and plug-in technology of the future with the Chevy Volt. Part of the problem today is biased, Toyota worshipping journalists who are misinformed and still carry the perception of GM from the 80s. I would suggest that you try one of GM's new vehicles, a great choice being the Cadillac CTS, Motor Trend's 2008 car of the year. Until then, I would request that you refrain from speaking about matters which you are not familiar with. My family's livelihood depends on it |

November 18th, 2008 12:21 pm ET I can't see Congress doing nothing...but what ever they do better include better controls and regulation, and certainly more transparency, that the financial bailout. I don't know how we can support more than a million job losses on top of everything else. So it is either offer some loans to the Big 3 with stipulations that it goes into retooling for more hybrids and alternate energy vehicles, research into alternate energy fuels, and specific requirements that NONE of the money finds its way into CEO and top executives pockets in the way of bonuses and perks. I'll never make in my whole lifetime what some of them make in a month! |

November 18th, 2008 12:45 pm ET I think the contract that the auto industry has with the uaw in no way caused the financial crisis we are in. The blame falls on the Bush administration failure on trade policies. I hope that the Bush administration will support the loan's the auto companies needs to survive this crisis. |

November 18th, 2008 12:57 pm ET I am a GM auto worker. And, although I do not want to lose my income, I do Not believe the bailout is the answer to GM's problems. A bailout will simply delay the process by six months or a year...keeping the same management in place is the crux of the problem. Having spent 30 years inside the GM corporation, I have been witness to many problems. The Lordstown plant has over 60 management people with no assignments – making over $200,000.00 a year per person. Get rid of them! Also, do you remember when Ross Perot was paid over a billion dollars from GM just to keep quiet about the inner workings of GM management? Get rid of that fourteenth floor! Bring in someone like Ralph Nader to clean up this mess and for once, tell the truth. . And all GM corporate execs should be relieved of their jobs and their bonuses – When you drive a corporation to the brink of bankruptcy – you do not deserve a bonus! Anyone Not involved in the integral building of the vehicle in each plant – should be evaluated for necessity. Cut the fat... |

November 18th, 2008 1:14 pm ET There is no way a bail-out for the big 3 auto makers can be justified. My husband is a retired educator and we pay out over $1,000.00 per month for health insurance and we have witnessed tremendous loss in our meager stock market investments. The auto makers have not planned for downsizing – the salaries are out of control and they need to bite the bullet and learn how to live like the rest of us who live below the middle class level. |

November 18th, 2008 3:30 pm ET In recalling the history of a lock-step, block voting, exclusive Republican administration, who on earth could possibly believe that in a flash of a moment, ALL Republicans in Washington are suddenly clueless to what is going on and have no idea what-so-ever where the bail-out money went? |
