Favorite Halloween costume as a kid?
In second grade, I made my own costume for a school party... I was a ghost and put two eye holes in the sheet myself. But I didn't measure the eye holes properly, so I kept bumping into walls at school.
Favorite scary movie?
Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds." He is the master.
Best Halloween memory?
My best Halloween memory was every year I 'trick or treated' with my children. (They had to give me 50 percent of their candy.)
Worst Halloween memory?
When my children stole back their 50 percent of the candy.
Favorite Halloween candy?
Snickers, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and Charleston Chew

October 31st, 2008 1:51 pm ET Oh Gary...that is too funny! You should have just cut another hole for the eye and been a three eyed ghost! LOL And I hope that you didn't use one of your mom's good sheets! I gotta say I love Reese's Peanut Butter Cups also...Ok really anything chocolate and I am good! LOL Cindy...Ga. |

October 31st, 2008 2:25 pm ET Favorite Halloween candy were those atomic fireballs! Best Halloween memory was in college the first time when I realized it was an excuse to dress up sexier than you normally would be too shy to do and enjoying all the sudden attention all the guys gave me who previously saw me as an math/science/engineering nerd! Worst Halloween Memory – 12 years old when the 15 year old girl across the street told me I wasn't invited to her Halloween party because only girls with boobs were invited |

October 31st, 2008 2:45 pm ET Happy Halloween Gary! Sorry to hear that you kept running into walls. I fear a lot of us did that as kids. Happy to hear that you let your kids steal most of their candy back too! You are every bit the nice guy! Mmmm.....Snickers and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups – now you're talking. BTW I live about 30 mins from where Reese's are made, so if you would like some, give me a shout and I will be happy to send some for you guys! It;s the least I can do for all my pals at CNN. Hang in there and we are all hoping they give all of you a break once the election is over. You could not deserve it more! just don;t forget to come back. |

October 31st, 2008 3:35 pm ET Gary, Happy Halloween! I love your favorite Halloween memory! That is really sweet, something I would have expected from you! One of my favorite Halloweens was going on a scavenger hunt traveling all over the surrounding neighborhoods for a Halloween Party solving riddles and picking up clues in order to win a prize at the end. No matter what, I bet you were proud of that costume! The homemade ones are often the most remembered and appreciated. I have enjoyed making costumes for my nieces. I love Hitchcock as well! I like movies with elements of psychological horror the best. "Saw" is my favorite of the new horror genre, but I can also appreciate the older ones like "The Birds" and "Psycho." Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are one of my favorites as well! I also love M&M Peanuts and Pop Rocks. Jo Ann |

October 31st, 2008 7:21 pm ET Gary I can see you running into walls – I did it myself at times and it didn't even require a costume for me. 50% is kind of a high "toll fare" isn't it? I always took 10 pieces from each of my kids – my pick. It went into the bribe jar – the jar I rewarded them from for doing things around the house that was beyond their chore list or for good behavior and sometimes just for being there. We have a tradition for our Halloweens – we make beef stew according to the recipe my gg-grandmother had 100 years ago; my grown children in driving distance still show up on Halloween for a bowl of stew.
