The GOP confirms it's making robocalls in a "half dozen" states accusing Barack Obama of having "worked closely with domestic terrorist Bill Ayres." And a source says the Republican National Committee will pump $70 million into the ground game in these final weeks of the presidential campaign.

Here's the text of the robocall on Ayres:

"Hello. I'm calling for John McCain and the RNC because you need to know that Barack Obama has worked closely with domestic terrorist Bill Ayres, whose organization bombed the U.S. capital, the Pentagon, a judge's home and killed Americans. And Democrats will enact an extreme leftist agenda if they take control of Washington. Barack Obama and his Democratic allies lack the judgment to lead our country. This call was paid for by McCain-Palin 2008 and the Republican National Committee at 202-863-8500."

I am told "hundreds of thousands of contacts are being made" in half a dozen states including Virginia, North Carolina and Ohio. And the source says robocalls will also be made on other subjects, including abortion.

I am also told that the RNC has 77 million dollars on hand and intends to spend 70 million of it on the ground game - on calls, mail, door knocks, etc., general Get out the Vote stuff - for the Republican ticket.

Robocalls are recorded calls made by computer. Obama has said that he worked at two community organizations with Ayres, now an education professor, but that Ayres has had nothing to do with his campaign. He said the terrorist attacks occured when Obama was 8 years old.

In response to the robocalls, Obama-Biden spokesman Tommy Vietor said in a statement, "John McCain’s campaign has admitted that the economy is a losing issue for them, so he’s chosen to launch dishonorable and dishonest attacks like this. No amount of scare tactics and false attacks will hide the fact that John McCain can’t defend the fact that he’s voted with George Bush’s disastrous policies 90% of the time and will continue the same Bush-McCain economic policies American families can’t afford.”

Here we go again, McCain saying "He didn't care about a washed up terrorist". Having others to do McCain's dirty work is one way to keep his nose clean. Talk about DESPRATE!
