Thank you for the interesting image, but I'm shocked at how little information we're getting regarding the aftermath of Ike. Some are saying there's been a kind of media blackout. Is this true? Is getting the story difficult simply due to logistics or have officials been stopping you? What kind of job is FEMA doing? What is the body count? How are the survivors who stayed faring? What about those who fled? This is a huge story and I'm confused as to why it's not getting the same commitment CNN showed in 2005.

Poor thing... She looks so bewildered. It must have been as terrifying as it would be for a young child, who has no idea what is going on...

i can not believe that the bolivar peninsula was so devastated. Gilchrist would be part of that. This is just a short ferry ride away from Galveston.
I was just there in May to see the endangered roseated spoonbill's nesting ground. So many precious baby fluffy pink ones. I hope their habitat is not destroyed also.
I had an evacuee in my home who was from Crystal Beach. His family home is gone. He also lost a trailer he could not get out.
So many stories, so much suffering. Places all around my town are still without electricity.
I don't know about that lion in the church. Wild is wild and should not be pets or trusted in an emergency situation. I love animals but domestic are the only ones created (by man) for pets.

The irony is that one usually goes to church to have the burdens and shackles lifted. In this case, the Shackle would be a burden!

Toss her (or him) a few chuck roasts (raw) for a few days then hit with a trak dart.

That ought to do it, at least until it can be transported to a proper facility.

Why isn't anyone asking where the heck he got the lion from? isn't it illegal to collect exotic animals and then make them suffer through natural disasters that they do not have to endure in their natural habitat....???

I think the church must have been the best place to be after all. Look at the light-weight microphone stands and the chairs that are still standing!

Oh my gosh... how irresponsible. I have my doubts about the wisdom of keeping dangerous animals anyway but if you do, you have really upped your social responsibilities to keep both animal and people safe should something happen... those are the folks who should have been on the rode the moment the smell of possible disaster was in the air. It is unacceptable to say "we could not get out in time". If they find themselves heading out unnecessarily 6 times out of 7, so be it.

Laying in front of the altar like she is, she looks like she is in holy contemplation. She's a beautiful animal but not exactly what I would want to meet in a church or anywhere else. Glad she and her owner made it through Ike though.

I agree with STacy. Why aren't we getting more information? What happened to all those people who stayed? How many of them were washed out to sea? Or are under the rubble?

We really do need this information, even if it's unpleasant, so that others don't stay when another hurricane comes.

It is so wonderful that they accommodated this lioness. This is a touching story of how we gave of ourselves to protect one of God's creatures.

Looks to me like a hungry lion accessing the ancestral memory and realizing "Oh yeah! Christians are tasty!"

To Anderson et al.: You got our attention with these photos. Now please try to get the attention of some animal groups and/or zoos who can take this graceful animal to a proper shelter for food and medical treatment. And go to the authorities too if the owner refuses to do what's best for the animal. The current situation poses a risk to the lion and the humans nearby.

Thank God she's ok...& i heard theres a hungry tiger on the loose...I hope they'd just tranquilize him instead of shooting him like what they did with the bear a month ago remember? The bear whose head stuck in a glass or something didnt eat for a week (creepily thin...) & they 'had no other ways but to kill it' (My A-S-S...)
