For gulf coast evacuees, this is the worst time. Sitting in a hotel lobby, watching updates on tv and wondering how your home, neighborhood and city are holding up.

For most here, they won't know the answer until the roads are clear, the power is back on and they can fight that inevitable traffic jam of the Gustav refugees heading home.

Here's one of the refugees in the lobby of Baton Rouge's Hyatt Place hotel, trying to stay up on the latest.

Drew,
I hope that you and your crew stay safe. My prayers go out to you.

As far as the people who refused to leave...well I just think that is plain stupid! When there is a mandatory evacuation everyone should be forced to leave. They just make the police have much more unneeded work during this time. That is ridiculous! Hopefully their stupidity won't get them harmed!

Good morning. It is 8:55 am and I am from Galveston. First, Gustav eye looks like it is going due west and hugging the Louisana coast. Secondly, on the radar and all the red activity is in the southwest of this storm. Do we have anything to worry about?

Thanks,
Simon Rodriguez

I hear nothing about conditions in Batan Rouge? My son and his wife are Children's Pastors at Bethany and I am wondering why no news about Baton Rouge is on CNN.

Baton Rouge is NEVER mentioned regarding hurricanes. I live here and lived here for Katrina and Rita and there was hardly a mention of leaving town or having breaches in our many miles of levees. It was two months ago that the river was only 7 feet from the top of the levee. Maybe we have nothing to worry about, but I'd appreciate an affirmation one way or the other.

By the way, Baton Rouge is fine right now. It's a little windy but the rain is slight. I just saw a group of adults riding bicycles recreationally.
