I heard your panels comments about how the dems may use the goverments response or lack there of to Katrina to hurt the Republicans and John McCain. As a native New Orleanian and current resident who was here for Katrina and will be here for Gustave, what we have seen here in the city and surrounding area is like night and day from pre-Katrina times as far as preparations go. The planning, resources and goverment support is truly overwhelming and greatly appreciated. It is clear to see the focus is now on pro-active instead of re-active - and this is apparent on all levels of goverment, local, state and federal. If the dems try to use this against the republicans I think it will come back to haunt them when the winds die down. If you ask the locals who are here living through the storms, I think you would find overwhelming appreciation for a job that is so far exceeding well done.

I just returned from Baton Rouge and the talk of the town was how LSU officials were resisting the idea of routing all traffic lanes one way out of New Orleans for evacuation because they are worried that fans won’t be able to get to the LSU game on Saturday. Incredible! With leaders like those idiots, it seems like a hurricane is the least of the citizen’s worries.
