Can't wait to find out who the VP picks are!

MaryBeth   August 19th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Why is it no one wants the job of VP? Is it that much of a career killer?

Shannon   August 19th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

I definitely think that Joe Lieberman would be the best V.P. for McCain, he definitely should choose him.

Kenny in NC   August 19th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Good evening Campbell, Erica and all bloggers. Ready for another good night tonight. I suspect that tonight everyone will be telling us who will be the VP picks for McCain and Obama. All the candidates will have to do then is join the blog and see who they are to pick.

Mike, Vietnam   August 19th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Hello Campbell,
good to see you on show again tonight!

CaseyJ - Palm Springs, CA   August 19th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Please not Joe Biden.

Stacy   August 19th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

So much talk from people who have no idea who is going to be VP.

chris, Baltimore, md   August 19th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Joe Biden would be a bad choice.

Sheree (Columbus, Ohio)   August 19th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Hi...everyone, I hope that the VP pick is soon so we start talking about the issues

Lou   August 19th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

I think that Obama is going to have no choice but to go with Hillary for VP

CaseyJ - Palm Springs, CA   August 19th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

It's very smart to pick a running mate that appeals to independents. Independents are a large block now and could provide the swing needed.

Sara   August 19th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

I'm so sick of politicians using abortion as a wedge issue.

Doug, Hermosa Beach CA   August 19th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Biden would be Obama's best choice

MaryBeth   August 19th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Sara: they use everything as a wedge issue: abortion, religion, patriotism, taxes, war, peace, etc.

CaseyJ - Palm Springs, CA   August 19th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Selecting Hilary might put me back on a train, so to speak. At this point, after last weekend, I just don't care as much anymore.

chris, Baltimore, md   August 19th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

Obama don't need Hillary anywhere near his campaign.

CaseyJ - Palm Springs, CA   August 19th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

@Sara-I agree with you about wedge issues, especially Marriage and abortion (decisions and issues which should be nobody's business to begin with).

happy tuesday, bloggers

Mike, Syracuse, NY   August 19th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

Hillary is really the only one who would add excitement, except perhaps Gore. The rest are all ho-hum choices with more negatives than positives.

Marie   August 19th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

obama needs to be bold and pick lugar

CaseyJ - Palm Springs, CA   August 19th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

@Mike-You don't think Wesley Clarke would be "exciting" or interesting enough?

Sheree (Columbus, Ohio)   August 19th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

I voting for Obama anyway...but Hillary is the person I want to be president in 2016 and the best way for that to happen is for her to be VP

Frank, El Dorado Hills CA   August 19th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

Obama is supported by a group in the Democratic party who view the United States as oppressive at home and imperialist abroad. Mrs. Obamas 'mean country' statement and Senators Obamas 'America not what it once was' statement seem to echo that sentiment. Does questioning America and her role mean someone is not patriotic? It depends on who you ask.

Heather,Ca,US   August 19th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

We all can guess all we want.I don't think anyone will know till they want us to.

Steve - southern Illinois   August 19th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

I think Obama should have announced his VP pick sooner.

MaryBeth   August 19th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

I'm so sick of the Republicans attacking personally. Of course, it's the only thing they have, since they can't compete on the issues. This should not be a popularity contest..it should be an issues contest: who handles the issues better?

David, Indiana   August 19th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Hi Campbell, Erica, everyone blogging. I'd be really surprised in John McCain picked Joe Lieberman, I think he will probably try to balance the ticket his maverick image with someone solidly republican. But I am sure I don't know who either Obama or McCain is going to pick. Still pulling for Sen. Clinton.

Mike, Syracuse, NY   August 19th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Wesley Clark was basically fired from his last 4 star job. He was forced into retirement because he was a loose cannon who almost had us shooting at the Russians in Bosnia.

chris, Baltimore, md   August 19th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

@CasyJ, Wesley Clark would be a good choice

Larry   August 19th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

I really do not see Joe 'xerox' Biden as a capable POTUS in the event of a something happening to Obama; plus he seems to project the appearance of being superior to Obama.

Mitt Romney for McCain, meh just can't see it. I'd have preferred the Gov. of Louisiana but he's just getting his feet wet.

Heather,Ca,US   August 19th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Sen Clinton is a moderate Dem.Sen Obama is a Marxist.Sen McCain can easily use her material and Rove's.

CaseyJ - Palm Springs, CA   August 19th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Questioning and speaking one's mind is VERY patriotic and American. It's one of our fundamental rights in the United States.

Steve - southern Illinois   August 19th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

I think Biden would be a great VP but won't appeal to so many people who are looking for an American Idol as VP.

MaryBeth   August 19th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Questioning America and where the country is going is not unpatriotic. In fact, it's the definition of patriotism. You want the best for your country. You want to represent the best country. Wondering what happened to this great idea our forbears came up with, is exactly what they would want us to do. They questioned their own government, and decided it was not working. In Britain you can't get rid of the royal family, they are for life. But here, in an elected government, you can. And that's patriotism. Fighting for the best of your country to be the best it can be.

Shannon   August 19th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

McCain should definitely not cater to his base, picking a pro-choice V.P. would really help his campaign :-)

Michael   August 19th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

I think the buzz about Joe Biden and Evan Bayh is just a smoke screen. I think that Barack Obama will surprise everyone and pick Hillary Clinton. I was doubtful at first, but when the DNC announced that Bill Clinton would speak before the VP pick it set off a red light that seems to make sense that he would introduce her when everyone in the media has all but written her off.

Mike, Syracuse, NY   August 19th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Hillary waited too long to go negative. Had she started sooner, she would be the nominee. Georgia has been a real wolrd 3 AM call. It's making people think that Obama is too much of a lightweight to handle it.

Frank, El Dorado Hills CA   August 19th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Honestly, who would you rather have answering the 3 a.m. call? The former Naval Aviator-War Hero or the Community Organizer -Law professor?

Heather,Ca,US   August 19th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

The difference I see is Obama can't communicate well unless it's from a speech.McCain communicates best without a speech.

Shannon   August 19th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

Frank, I would absolutely rather have Obama answer the call. John McCain is trigger happy, he is going to have us continuing war in Iraq, Afghanistan, then include Iran, Russia, and soon Pakistan.

CaseyJ - Palm Springs, CA   August 19th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

At 3AM, I'd rather have the level-headed community-minded organizer and Law Professor, rather than any of the "old boys club" answering the phone and throwing us into more ego-generated global chaos.

larry   August 19th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

For Obama V.P, choice, i have the feeling that, Catherine Kennedy may also bring in some excitment to the ticket as well as appealling to the women voters too.

Shannon   August 19th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

All the pundits turning against Obama sounds good. Last year, in December they had written him off right before he took Iowa away and then won 9 straight primaries. It is better to underestimate his strategic planning. McCain has not shown himself to be strategic in much.

Elaine   August 19th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

The only reason McCain's ads are being effective is the media's unwillingness to keep him honest. You slap McCains hand if he does something wrong, but you slap Obama upside the head. The media needs to stop selling the American voters a bunch of propaganda.

Erica Hill
CNN
  August 19th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

i love the "revealed" pieces – and i found it interesting and refreshing that the candidates and their wives answered some of the questions asked, ones they have seemingly avoided in the past

James Dylan   August 19th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

The reason McCain's ads work is because they're true. Obama has no experience.

Shannon   August 19th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

See Obama always has a plan, he is a strategic mastermind!! He knows how to win and McCain and all the pundits are underestimating him again as they did in the primaries until his strategy succeeded.

Kenny in NC   August 19th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

I admire Senator Obama for not getting in the mud with McCain but I suspect it may become necessary sooner or later if McCain does not self destruct.

Mike, Syracuse, NY   August 19th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

McCain's quest for the nomination was all but dead a year ago. People forget the comeback he made. He's doing it again.

Shannon   August 19th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

I suspect McCain will continue running only negative ads. The only things that I can tell he is for are the surge and off-shore drilling. You can only run so many ads about those two topics.

Jake   August 19th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

McCain is making a good move right now, but Obama will come back especially when he reveals his VP.

Jeanine McNail   August 19th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Well, wouldn't it be a hoot if Al Gore were the guy for Barack?

It seems from reading the blog, most folks think Biden would not be good. I think he would be a distinct help in the campaign. He's a tough fighter and Barack needs that. I thought for a long time that Hillary would be the pick, but that seems to be very unlikely now.

Mike, Syracuse, NY   August 19th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

You can't go through what McCain went through and love war. Such characterizations are grossly unfair.

Elaine   August 19th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

McCain is running those ads so no one asks him the questions that matter. His policies. Everyone just keeps talking about his ads.

Jake   August 19th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

@Shannon,
Those are the only things I can find him supporting as well. The other thing he likes to run is Obama's "lack of experience". That is getting dull as well. His shorter time has brought a fresh perspective and new solutions to 25 year old problems.

chris, Baltimore, md   August 19th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

now they're putting children on the no fly list? whats going on in this country?

MaryBeth   August 19th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

Did anyone seriously believe the bigfoot story? Honestly?

James Dylan   August 19th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

The eight year old terrorist? He looks like a Russian mole, "Uri" if you will. Watch out the pre-adolescents are taking over.

Mike, Syracuse, NY   August 19th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Bigfoot isn't true? Nessie will be very disappointed.

David, Indiana   August 19th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Very much enjoyed the two previews of the Revealed report

MaryBeth   August 19th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

Chris: children on the terrorist list aren't new. There's a 10 month old on the list.

CaseyJ - Palm Springs, CA   August 19th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

@MaryBeth...I believed the big foot story. Then I took a closer look and realized it was Gary Tuchman stuck in an airport without a razor, between flights.

James Dylan   August 19th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Biden would just make Obama look even more inexperienced. Like Biden should be running the show.

Elaine   August 19th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Bigfoot's not true? Bummer.

Jake   August 19th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Any time I hear about the TSA and airport security, I can't help but recall the SNL episode where they were discussing TSA protocols with new recruits.

James Robinson   August 19th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Just for fun ... I am another James Robinson who must bew cleared before flying. I can't do web check-in or use a kiosk, even when I'm flying business on the airline I work for. I (like your pilot) have a badge that gives me access to all areas of the Airport Operations Area ... yet the TSA can't clear me.

More irony – less than a 1/2 mile away lives another James Robinson with the same issues. The father of one of my daughter's friends.

I feel safer. How about you?

Jim Robinson

MaryBeth   August 19th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

So, is James Robinson a common terrorist name?

Sara   August 19th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Poor kid - gotta love this government!

MaryBeth   August 19th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

OMG! You really are a James Robinson? It MUST be a common name...how bizarre...is like...Joe Smith a common name? Do they just pick common names?

CaseyJ - Palm Springs, CA   August 19th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

I think Drew should of asked the parents if their kid was a terrorist–only the parents would know for sure. Let's see his report card with teacher's comments first.

James Dylan   August 19th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

How nice to know how easy it is for those who should be on the watch list to avoid it.

Vicki   August 19th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

I am horrified that you will be telling us that the BIGFOOT found was NOT the REAL one. Just think IT is still out there! YIKES! ha ha ha!!!

Elaine   August 19th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

They really need to clean up their act on the no fly list. It is getting out of control. Can you imagine how many Smith's there must be?

chris, Baltimore, md   August 19th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

@MaryBeth, wow. now thats really bad. i had no idea. someone needs to fix this faulty system.

MaryBeth   August 19th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

I'm so glad I have a uncommon name!

MaryBeth   August 19th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

So...would the Abominable Snowman just be an albino bigfoot? Couldn't they just be the same animal...?

sara.ro   August 19th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Funny and strange list...where from they have the names to put on the list? From some tweens like in SF movies -minority report? total recal??:)

Kenny in NC   August 19th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

That picture of McCain in the Control Room now explaines the high cost of fuels. LOL

chris, Baltimore, md   August 19th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

goodnight bloggers, cya tomorrow

Jake   August 19th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

On McCain in the Control Room
I would have said something like,
This doesn't look anything like PONG.

MaryBeth   August 19th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Sara: you are right. The terrorist list is a very funny and strange list. Obviously they just pull names out of a hat and put everyone with that name on the list, disregarding jobs, age, and everything else.

David, Indiana   August 19th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

The terrorist watchlist keeping us safe from people who are no danger to anyone. Excellence in government.

So the bigfoot thing last week was a hoax? Bigfoot still lives!

Jake   August 19th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Good night Bloggers. Have a great evening!!

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   August 19th, 2008 10:56 pm ET
