Hey, do any of you remember the Reverand Wright saying he wasn't running for office but he might consider the Vice Presidency!

Seriously, the candidates need to pick someone who would make a good President and someone the American people want a heartbeat away from the office. It should not be about personal preferences, but about Party (and Country) unity and welfare.

We only need Obama to go with Biden and McCain to go with Rice, and we'd have the ideal race/age mix, though McCain would have a gender advantage.

Last night, Mark Halpern named the usual suspects then said added an "or", referring to a darkhorse. When Erica asked him who, he said he did not know.
I would suggest to Mr. Halpern that he look at Jay Rockefeller as the dark horse "or" candidate. Look at his qualifications, look at the geography and then look at the convention schedule. He is scheduled to speak the same night as Biden and Bayh.

Please tell me why McCain has not considered Mike Huckabee for his VP, I am sure he is pro life and he is younger and seems to be more to the left and to me it only makes sense for McCain to at least consider him. It would certainly broaden McCain’s voting audiance. I am a democrat and if McCain wins with Huckabee as his VP it would not be so bad but if he wins with any of the possibilities he has on his short list I'd rather die! I'd also like to hear why Obama has not put Richardson on his short list; he needs a younger VP to run with. I want Obama to have Clinton or Richardson as his VP. God give me something! I really liked Obama until he came out with his short list of old men or the unknown guy, now I am hoping for McCain to choose Huckabee and I will vote for him, the VP really matters to us boys!

No way in hell should Obama fall for all the blackmail and intimidation that the Clintons have been pouring on them -- that Jed Clampett look-alike (Bill Clinton) has been bad-mouthing and threatening Obama and Obama, the classy gentleman that he is, has remained silent about the pushy Clintons. No way do we people of intelligence want to see another phony, bug-eyed, big-mouthed, fake surprised expression on Hitlery's face, and that stupid slack-jawed, mouth-breather HillBilly -- both make a terrible appearance, and Obama is too smart to pick those two (they're joined at the behind -- that's why Hitlery wears those huge pantsuits -- Bills in there with her).

Mr. McCain needs to be careful regarding his pick for VP. He can not anger the "good ol boys" before he is elected. I beleive his best bet is Romney for many reasons. Obama can pick anyone that the Democratic machine tells him to. Let's not kid anyone this is not his decision. No matter how many times he tells us it is. Byden will overshadow him because of experience. Bye(I think I spelled that wrong. Sorry) will go around him to get things done with and for the parties best interest. The Clinton's friend from Mexico who turned his back on them as soon as he saw the way the wind was blowing from the DNC will do the same to Obama eventually should he have to choose sides. So good luck on a democratic pick. We may not have 4 more years of Bush but we will have 4 more years of nothing getting done if the democrats win and continue the power struggle in the party. A life long democrat , I have been and shall be . Just not sure I will vote that way or at all. Hilary we miss you.

If Obama chooses Richardson or any of the other so called top choices, he'll lose for sure. Without Hillary he is just a pathetic "What do I do now President' depending on the wisdom of the voulchers around him who will end up calling the shots. He already proved he is a scary little whimp when it comes to making the 3:00 a.m. call. "Pick up the phone Michelle I just left for the bahamas."

Hi all,
All this speculation is just to fill media time during the quiet period before the conventions and in both cases it will be a personal choice and political necessity for Obama and political and religious necessity for McCain, the latter of which is a very sad commentary on American politics.
Democrats. It is a pity that neither Powell or Gore are on the list!? That leaves either Biden or Nunn. Obama does not need to choose HRC because she will face the problem of overtly supporting him ( creating the catharsis) or causing disaster to the democrats who would lose many potential upcoming Senate seats they could win and later losing House seats.
Republicans. McCain, probably his best choice is Romney, since as you say he cannot afford to even remotely damage his religious position. Purely politically Ridge might be best but even that screws him on the economy. Gosh its amazing to think that one mans view on Pro life, pro choice, can decide this appointment.
Finally, nowhere in US history has a presumptive candidate had an ex president even remotely connected to his Presidency, the reason and logic is obvious whose the President? Let the catharsis HRC proposes occur at the convention, then discuss it if you must based on fact and reality. Having said that the delay worries me and Gergen may be right.
Regards,
Hodgson.

If Obama wants to win, his chance, and only chance, is Hilary as the VP. There is no other VP candidate that can make this happen. Obama and his suporters should know this at this time. To say that Bill Clinton will be a problem in an Obama-Hilary administration is naivity as well as an insult to Obama and Hilary themselves. These bias and misinformed pundits (and Obama supporters) are clearly saying that Obama is not strong enough to call the shots once he wins as president, and this is a show of ignorance on how much they know about Obama. They should just say that they don't like Hilary as VP, not concoct all sorts of unfounded reasons or diatribes against her.

Is there any reason former Sen. Bob Graham of Florida has not been mentioned? Florida offers more electoral votes than Delaware, Virginia, or Indiana; Sen. Graham brings the experience of a former governor and foreign policy expertise as the former chair of the Senate Inelligence Committee; and, like Sen. Obama, he was smart enough to read the intelligence reports to conclude that invading Iraq was unjustified and would be disastrous for us. None of the other names being floated can bring such a winning combination.

I am so glad it is politics as usual. I am also glad Roland and Donna has decided to stop wasting their time being on the show because it is so obvious that the good "ole boys" are in full bloom now that this election gets closer and it is no longer Hillary and Obams. I really don't think David Gergen knows who he wants to support, at first it was Obama but now that he is the actual nominee, he supports Hillary as VP and McCain as President, my god. I will definitely vote for Obama, but I hope McCain wins so that the people can see that they would rather have another Bush than actually support a man who really wants to be the people president. THIS ELECTION IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF WHATS IT LIKE TO BE "BLACK IN AMERICA". The only thing I will campaign for and vote for after this will be for all Blacks in America to give up on the Democratic Party so the people of the U.S. can live in the world the white man rules since they are the only ones who's opinions matters. If Obama loses I hope he will never run for President again.!!!

i watched joe biden being completely disrespectful at the presidential address a few years ago. anyone that disrespects the office is disrespecting our country and i will not vote for obama if he picks biden. biden has a long history of being self serving, pompous, and doesn't speak for the people like me=average american. obama is an attractive candidate but he can do better than joe biden.

I don't understand why the media is down playing Sen. Hilliary Clinton for the best choice for VP. Most of the public or voting Democratics know nothing about these other VP candidates. If Obama wants to really win the Presidency, he really needs to listen to the most popular of the voters (Demo) choice, and not listen to what the media is trying to down play (Clinton). I believe Obama really will not win with any other VP candidates and may lose votes. Sen H. Clinton is much stronger than the other candidates. I have no idea who this J. Biden guy is, never heard of him until this election. SEN. HILLIARY CLINTON IS THE MUCH BETTER CHOICE. I hope Obama makes the correct, most intelligent choice.

John McClain sounded so much like the typical politician on the Saddleback interview. He said things that sound good, and it seem so rehearsed. Said things that most people want to hear, but it was not sincere.

Obama gave an honest, from the heart interview. He answered the questions that seem much more sincere and REAL. No man can totally erase evil, that is GOD's job. Osama Bin Laden is NOT the only evil in the world. And all middle eastern or Islamic people are not evil. No, I am not Islamic, I was raised as Christian. When u judge a group or religion, this sounds like the words of 'bigotry' or 'prejudice'.

McCain will make a strange decision.

I am curious why McCain's decisions to not pay his home taxes for 5 years is not talked about as an example of his ability to lead.
