President Nicolas Sarkozy of France and President Dmitry Medvedev of Russia hold a joint press conference Tuesday, in Moscow, Russia.

Morning folks...

Breaking News!!! Russian President Dmitry Medvedev announced earlier today that he has ordered an end to military operations against Georgia. The announcement came minutes before French President Nicolas Sarkozy was to land in Moscow to meet with Medvedev to negotiate terms for a possible cease-fire.
"I have reached a decision to halt the operation to force the Georgian authorities to peace," Medvedev said. "The aggressor has been punished and has incurred very significant losses. Its armed forces are disorganized." The decision ends five days of fighting that began in Georgia's breakaway region of South Ossetia and spread well into Georgia....will it last? Actually, NO, CNN just confirmed that Russia has continued to bomb two cities in Georgia....Mathew Chance reports for us tonight from Georgia...

Is Musharraf out? The second of Pakistan's four provincial assemblies passed a resolution calling for President Pervez Musharraf to step down or face impeachment. Today's resolution by the North West Frontier Province passed by a vote of 107-4. It follows a similar measure that Punjab's assembly passed a day earlier. The other two provincial assemblies are expected to pass similar resolutions before the end of the week. The resolutions are non-binding, but they signal a growing drumbeat by Pakistani lawmakers to pressure the politically embattled president to leave office. We will follow this today and if there is news we will bring it to you....NOTE: Musharraf has shown no inclination to step down.

On the political front...Obama is still on vacation. Candy Crowley heads to Hawaii for a little sun and to cover the candidate... John McCain continues to campaign in Pennsylvania today, Ed Henry covers that for us today..

Also, a piece we promised yesterday, will hopefully get on tonight... Jim Moore has written three books about President George Bush. All critical. His toughest, Bush's War for Re-election. Moore's research into the presidents National Guard service dogged the Bush re-election campaign in the fall of 2004. George Bush won re-election in November. Jim Moore decided to go on vacation in January of 2005. It was his first flight since the election...and something was wrong. He couldn't check-in at home, couldn't check in at a kiosk, went to the ticket counter and found out why. "All of a sudden i find myself on the no fly, terror watch selectee list and traveling became very complicated…." Drew Griffin investigates....

AND Randi Kaye continues digging on the ground in Orlando...Caylee Anthony...You may know by now she’s the girl that’s been missing for more than two months now. Her mother, Casey Anthony, didn’t report she’d disappeared for more than five weeks. She’s now in jail charged with, among other things, child neglect. Tonight, Randi looks at Casey’s Web of Lies: how Casey misled investigators… and why… A police affidavit outlines all that  Casey said....misinformation that caused investigators to go in the wrong directions, misinformation that may be the reason they have NOT yet found Caylee...Randi lays it out for us...

ALL for now...

I heard about Medvedev calling for a cease fire this morning. I wondered if it would happen or not. I guess not if they are still bombing them. Hopefully Sarkozy can talk some sense into him and the cease fire will actually happen.

I don't think Musharraf will ever willingly step down. He is too addicted to the power. They will have to impeach him if they want him out in my opinion.

Candy gets to go to Hawaii!! WOO HOO!! LOL Good for her! She deserves a little R&R! Y'all work that woman WAY too much. LOL Hopefully she won't have to cover Obama too much and can lounge on the beach or by the pool.

Good morning, Anderson, Erica, & all,
So, why call a cease-fire, & continue to bomb? I just don't trust Russia, never did, & never will–call it 'left over' cold war mentality.

So Musharraf is facing almost certain impeachment? What exactly does that mean in Pakistan?

I really enjoyed David's input, last night, on the situation in Georgia. It was really the 1st time I grasped some understanding of it.

Have a good day Anderson, Erica, & all.

Anderson,
Who is "really" ready to lead? Like parenting you can "pre"pare all you want, but it's really on the job training that gives you the experience. With all of the intelligence/information in the world on parenting/good leadership, there will still be encounters/surprises that will throw you for a loop, but how you recover is what makes you stronger and wiser and better for the next bought. Barack is not arrogant or self fulfilliing. His family, I'm sure receives hate mail and more severe threats because of what he represents, yet his heart to bring the change needed seems to be broken because his good intentions are being smeared. So that's a self less act. Lynching is still going on and not just in Jasper and Jena but perhaps subliminally as the association of press releases joins efforts to stop the change that could make all of our lives a bit better. Not just one tier of persons. What's wrong with competing as gentlemen and sticking with the issues. Food for thought?

How convenient.Putin lies to Bush face to face. And now the Russian Pres decides to stop attacking Georgia right before Sarkozy lands in Russia. How convenient. That is no coincodence.Nice game Russia who is bullying Georgia likes to play .

All that girl does is say lies lies lies to everyone about her missing child. She has gotten herself into big trouble and she thinks she can lie her way out.

Remember Nixon's enemies list? This no fly list sure sounds similar doesn't it?

If Musharraf is ousted from office what happens then? Who do the experts think will lead the country and what changes could it mean for the US and the war on terror? Sometimes you wonder if the devil you know is better than the devil you have no idea about....looking forward to hearing some of the experts CNN has access to explain all this.

it's interesting that comments by McCain about Russia prior to this invasion were criticized as Cold War relics. He was accused of living in the past. Well it looks like McCain had them pegged right all along. Those who think you can talk nice, hold hands, and sing Kumbaya for wolrd peace ignore the lessons of history. Teddy Roosevelt had it right when he said talk softly and carry a big stick. Obama's solution...a UN resolution. I'm sure the Russians would just wipe their butts with the paper it's printed on.

Good morning Anderson:

I just read the story about Georgia's intention to leave the CIS. This makes me wonder whether additional ex-soviet states will follow suit. It is so sad they cannot come to terms and keep their alliance. Oil really does make one greedily hungry for power and status with disregard to those trampled underfoot.

I hope little Caylee is located soon. Why have the authorities not given a polygraph test to her mother (or have they?).

Kent Fitzsimmons,Kewanee, IL   August 12th, 2008 11:51 am ET

Oil, oil, oil...........The Big powers of the world struggle to control oil and it's transport.....................And we decide whether we should embrace wind, solar, and nuclear power? The US invaded Iraq because of oil. the Russians have invaded Georgia because of oil. Hmmmmmmm I think alternative sources of energy are looking pretty good right now.

kathy frieze   August 12th, 2008 12:23 pm ET

Glad to see at least SOMEONE is realizing that oil, again, is a cause for War. The pipeline runs through Georgia...

Also, clean energy. Everyone is saying nuclear energy is safe and clean. But, what to do with the spent fuel rods....hmmm...not so clean heh?

I also appreciated Mr. Gergen's remarks. To try and sift through all of the commentary and to try and filter out all of the bias is to much for me to handle. Straight and to the point. As a new viewer and blogger, this past week has been a very informative one. I hope that there is more information to come.
Also for those interested in the meteor showers, check out NASA's page on pha's (potentially hazardous asteroids) this site always amazes my students..

Heather   August 12th, 2008 4:02 pm ET

If you don't think Putin is trying to kill the Pres of Georgia you are fooling yourself.I know that we moved our fighter jets from Florida to Alaska .
