Good evening everyone!!!

Megan Dresslar   July 29th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Helloooo Campbell and best bloggers!!!
Happy Tuesday!!!
I saw on website CNN headline Earthquake strikes S. California measured around 5.4 this morning, some buildings, roads, or no one hurt this time. They are lucky to be alive tonight. you will hear from reporting in California....... My thoughts and Prayer with S. California people......

Saera El Paso, TX   July 29th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

hello everyone!

Heather Spokane, WA   July 29th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Good evening everyone, sounds like it's going to be a busy night.

CaseyJPS   July 29th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Hi Bloggers! The quake wasn't quite exciting enough in the desert–just another California day.

Mike, Syracuse, NY   July 29th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Hello Campbell and bloggers. Wow, what video.

Gary   July 29th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Hello everyone...very lucky no inuries in California.

CaseyJPS   July 29th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

A 5.4 is a good shake, and there will always be relatively small damage, but it isn't enough to make you stop your day for than a few minutes. Stay away from masonry-type buildings (bricks and blocks).

Michelle, Spring Valley, CA   July 29th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Hello. Felt it in the San Diego Area. Over before I could freak out (:

Megan Dresslar   July 29th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Casey JPS......
You're so lucky to be alive!!!!!!!

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   July 29th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

I didn't feel the quake. It must have rippled east instead of north.

Hannah Storm   July 29th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

I felt an earthquake once (a very minor one) and it was pretty scary. Thankfully there were no fatalities in Cali today

Heather Spokane, WA   July 29th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

That earthquake was worse than they were saying earlier.

CaseyJPS   July 29th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

The scary part is when the shaking happens and you just wonder if "this is it," (the BIG one)

CaseyJPS   July 29th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Lori Ann...I was thinking about you wondering if you felt it. Megan, it's just NOT a big deal (honestly).

Megan Dresslar   July 29th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

My hometown Seattle had 2 times earthquakes in my life!!!! I had felt on the ground!

Norma   July 29th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Wow a politican indicted big surprise there.

Teresa, OH   July 29th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Oh, my, a senator that lied for YEARS and YEARS about perks on the side. whodda thunk it?

CaseyJPS   July 29th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

I love this about the crooked Senator–another "questionable" life-term Republican. This list just keeps growing and growing.

Megan Dresslar   July 29th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Not good for Alaska senator!!!!! he lied to people and false information today...... I agree with Norma.....

Hannah Storm   July 29th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

Stevens being busted can't be that big of a surprise. Haven't they been investigating him for a while

jackie Chino Hills, CA   July 29th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

it was interesting today....yes, lucky nothing serious happen, but is another day in california =)

Frank El Dorado Hills, CA   July 29th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

Our elected officials spend a great deal of time peddling influence. If they would only work as hard saving money and getting something of worth accomplished for the people.

jackie Chino Hills, CA   July 29th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

it was so amazing that it was felt so far in many different directions....isn't it sad to always hear about some politician in a negative light, what's next it seems

CaseyJPS   July 29th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

When you start talking about a 5.9 magnitude or higher is when I would start taking notice. A 5.7 in the right (vulnerable place) would be more significant. Each tick (.10) on the richter scale is a significant increase.

Linda, Los Angeles   July 29th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Hi all, it was an interesting day! The earthquake was more of a swaying feeling than shaking. Megan, we you in Seattle for the 2001 earthquake? That was more terrifying for me.

David, Indiana   July 29th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

Hi Campbell, everyone. I saw the news about the quake on CNN.com, wasn't expecting that today, glad to hear people in California are doing well. A busy news day even for viewers.

maureen from ca   July 29th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

hi everyone. I felt the quake didn't know it was a quake until i heard it on CNN. the only thing the quake did was scare my dog.

Linda, Los Angeles   July 29th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Sounds like Stevens should take one for the team and drop out of the race.

Gary   July 29th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

A republican justice department goes after a republican senator. This is why we have a great nation.

Cynthia   July 29th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Something along the same lines happened with a politician at the local level and he was found guilty. He is up in age as well and thus far has not been sent to prison.

Kathy, Chicago   July 29th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

What is scary is that i assume that all politicians are corrupt.

Heather Spokane, WA   July 29th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

When are some of these people in power going to realize that they will always be on camera when they are doing things they shouldnt be doing?

Ken   July 29th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Campbell the sad thing is that what this Senator has done makes it seem that all of them are crooked. That's not good for those 2 or 3 that are still honest.

Marvin Lee from Arcadia, California   July 29th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

I felt the earthquake in S. California. However, I wasn't in the epicenter, so the shake wasn't too bad. It's a good thing there wasn't too much property damage.

CaseyJPS   July 29th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

I wish I could get some company to pay for turning my home into a McMansion! The term earmark is synonymous with Alaska. Senator Stevens should be so proud (I'm certain his mother would be).

Norma   July 29th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Don't you just love it when they say in their first statement..I never knowingly.......

They knew it.

Gary   July 29th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

I think we should all remember that these Congressman and Senators are elected by US. It is a good lesson for all of us to look closely at anyone running for office and when someone is not conducting themselves appropriately we can vote them out.

gary tuchman cnn   July 29th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Hi everyone.
It's Gary Tuchman, working with Campbell tonight. Thankfully, the earthquake wasn't a major one. But the scare for those who felt it sure was!

Mike, Syracuse, NY   July 29th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

I think the wording the he paid all the bills that were presented says a lot. How much was never billed?

Megan Dresslar   July 29th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Hey Gary!!!!
Happy see you tonight!!!!!!! Welcome back Gary!!!

Tami   July 29th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

What I want to know is when are the people of the US gonna say, enough is enough? We have to start demanding more from the people we send up there.

Linda, Los Angeles   July 29th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I can't see how Stevens would be able to win the election?

jackie Chino Hills, CA   July 29th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

hey gary...how are you tonight? so great for you to be here.

Ken   July 29th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

Ed Rollins, David Gergen and Roland Martin. Three good voices of opinion and I enjoy hearing them deliver their opinions on matter on the show. Three good people for Obama to look at for valid input in his administration.

Cynthia   July 29th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

Some of them do great things for their areas but because of who they are they are offered some opportunities that for whatever reason they can't pass up.

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   July 29th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

Something tells me most of Congress is not too squeaky clean. That's very sad for all Americans.

Megan Dresslar   July 29th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

Gary,
I am so scared of earthquake in my life!!!! But it is very important to take drill is very serious for 3 days to prepare.

Stacy   July 29th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

@Tami–I don't wait for that day any more because I know it's never coming.

Heather Spokane, WA   July 29th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

Its obvious he was caught red handed and he needs to do the right thing and step aside.

Mike, Syracuse, NY   July 29th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

We need term limits for Congress. If you can't stay there forever, you are less likely to get corrupted.

Michelle, Spring Valley, CA   July 29th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

Can't wait to see that report on infrastructure! It's so important, we need to get those bridges fixed!

gary tuchman cnn   July 29th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

hi to you Megan.
and Jackie, you live in Chino Hills!!!!!
Where were you when the quake hit?

Donald   July 29th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

He just got caught believe me there are more doing the same

David, Indiana   July 29th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Good comments by Ed Rollins and Roland Martin. It's not a happy day for such a senior senator. Need to consider the influence of the oil industry when opening up new drilling areas. That's one thing that Joe Johns report makes me think.

Megan Dresslar   July 29th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

MIchelle in Spring Valley, CA
You're right! we need to fix new bridges is very important, goverment will help people to fix it.

Ken   July 29th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

What scares me about an earthquake is that there is no place to run to. No place to call safe as your entire world is shaking. A hole in the street could open up and swallow you up or the building you are in could sink in to it of come down around you.

Glad McCain is ok from the skin removed the other day. Now he can get back to his supporting Obama.

Heather Spokane, WA   July 29th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

I dont like McCain at all but I am glad that he is ok.

Linda, Los Angeles   July 29th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

The Democratic Convention has not happened. So how can he separate from them? Democratic congress is only two yrs old.....

Gary   July 29th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Mr. Obama...what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Norma   July 29th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

If thats the best the Republicans can come up with to attack Obama again with a photo of Polosi.

A picture with Bush and McCain is alot worse in my view.

Kathy, Chicago   July 29th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Going after Dem's could work. I have been disappointed with Reed and Pelosi.

Ken   July 29th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Anderson is still swimming with the sharks? Tell him to be careful. You see what happened to Senator Ted Stevens when he swam with sharks.

Mike, Syracuse, NY   July 29th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Bush's popularity is bad, but Congress' is worse. They have a single digit approval rating. It's hard to think of a single accomplishment of the current Congress.

Megan Dresslar   July 29th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Ken,
Yes, he is in Africa right now.

Frank El Dorado Hills, CA   July 29th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

Nancy Pelosi not so polarizing? Pelosi is using hard ball methods to prevent the Congress from voting on the drilling bill. A bill that would pass with an overwhelming majority and benefit every American with lower fuel bills.

jackie Chino Hills, CA   July 29th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

gary, i was driving home so i didn't feel as bad but saw the street lights shaking and everything. my friends' kitchen was shaken up, but nothing too bad. my job felt good. i work at disneyland and my friends said it was crazy there.

Heather Spokane, WA   July 29th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

What is it lately with soldiers killing other soldiers? This is the second one in a few months.

Hannah Storm   July 29th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

what a sad story about the pregnant soldier. Glad to hear they finally have a suspect in the case

Teresa, OH   July 29th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Wow... Sad story about Megan : ( I am so glad that they have finally arrested someone in connection with this.

Women need to be a little smarter about their relationships. I have to ask this, with the celebrity gals all getting pregnant: are birth controls pills not working anymore?

Norma   July 29th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

I don't think Democrats or Republicans have anything to be proud of.

Both sides have made a big stink of things..

CaseyJPS   July 29th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

So, Mr. Patino is accustomed to having his cake and eating it, too. There is never a positive outcome in this situation. When will people learn–maybe that just comes with (old) age. The hotel should have done a security search of her room on day two (at minimum). Call the room, and when they don't answer, go check it. I've seen my share of murders and dead bodies over the years (in the hotel business). This is just common sense.

Mike, Syracuse, NY   July 29th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

It's amazing that the Army didn't track that she was gone. If someone on one of my ships missed morning muster, we tracked them down immediately.

Hannah Storm   July 29th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

If Shia was drunk does it really matter if he caused the accident or not....stupid decision, if he was in fact drunk

David, Indiana   July 29th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

Hi Gary Tuchman. Democratic majorities in congress and a democratic president, oh no! Didn't we just have a Republican president, and republican controlled house for about six years?

If the approval rating for congress is low does it necessarily mean congress is doing a bad job? These are tough political times.

This story about Megan Touma is truly sad.

Janna   July 29th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Heather, The military is such a huge society these days... every society has people capable of murder. We would hope they are all there to serve, but there will always be egocentric people who are beyond selfish

Megan Dresslar   July 29th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

I am relief he already arrest by police......... so sad for her and unborn too.

gary tuchman cnn   July 29th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

one of our CNN correspondents, Ed Lavandera was at Disneyland with his family when the quake happened. He thought the quake had something to do with one of the rides! Talk about an interesting place to be when a quake occurs!

Norma   July 29th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

Poor girl good thing they have a suspect.

Mike, Syracuse, NY

Its not the Army's fault..it was up to her NCO to go looking and track her down.

CaseyJPS   July 29th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

It's intolerable that AIDS has (and continues) to proliferate the way it does. It speaks volumes about our health care system, and the lack of committment for any kind of funding on the part of our current administration.

Mike, Syracuse, NY   July 29th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

Are these statistics alarming enough to change behavior? This isn't the governments problem, it's a personal choice issue.

jackie Chino Hills, CA   July 29th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

soledad did a good job with this special. i still need to watch the other part though. it doesn't just need to be a special on african-americans, it would be just as interesting with anyone else.

Teresa, OH   July 29th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

those are mindblowing statistics on AIDS.

I have to ask this for the US: ummm, did they ban condoms?

Janna   July 29th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Mike, my Army nephew tells me that pregnant soldiers and soldiers with families sometimes are give more leeway. IMO, they should be looked after MORE carefully instead.

Gary   July 29th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

Casey...if you look at the record you will see that this administration has committed a huge amount of money to the aids problem. And Mike is absolutely correct that it is a personal choice issue.

Victoria   July 29th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

Sure it's the government's problem. Who do you think is paying for the astronomical medical costs? The government (tax payers)

I would think spending money for education and prevention would be a better less costly plan.

Kathy, Chicago   July 29th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Shouldn't people with HIV be more careful about sleeping with others and sharing needles. Public agencies have been providing condoms to low income families. It starts with education, but those infected need to be accountable to not spread the disease to others.

Jared   July 29th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

its amazing the army didnt report her missing i dont think theres anything they could of done to stop her death but they should of reported her missing and had the common sence to check the hotel

Mike, Syracuse, NY   July 29th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

@Norma, her NCO is her link to the Army. Her command is responsible for it's personnel.

CaseyJPS   July 29th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Mike, Syracuse...People don't "choose" to get infected. That's not an appropriate thing to state. People do choose (or aren't educated enough or can't get or afford condoms) to take the appropriate precautions however. And then, there is a whole (aging) generation of long-timers who never had the benefit of education, who never understood the scope or never saw it coming.

Cynthia   July 29th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

The AIDs numbers are staggering. People should just remember the old adage "no glove – no love". There are people on the down low and have been in prison.

Janna   July 29th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Gary T, wow, that's the perfect place to be! People on amusement park rides were the only ones not scared.

Karin - Canada   July 29th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Anderson swimming with sharks ... reminds me of the political race .. but appears to be a lot less dangerous.

Heather Spokane, WA   July 29th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

@Janna, I agree with you on that, but how often do you see soldiers killing other soldiers when they are pregnant?

CaseyJPS   July 29th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Kathy, Chicago...The under-educated folks aren't in school and simply aren't reached by basic education. That's why the government needs to take a public information role.

Megan Dresslar   July 29th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Wow!!! Anderson is doing great in Africa....... I can't wait see PIP2 .....
The video are amazing!!!!!!!

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   July 29th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Oh how sad, those poor seals..I know that's life in the wild, but it is always so awful to see.

Janna   July 29th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Super smart seal, hiding in the shadow- good for him!

Mike, Syracuse, NY   July 29th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

@Casey, a drunk driver doesn't choose to get into an accident and kill people either. They do it, and then pay the price. It's called personal accountability.

Kevin C   July 29th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Anderson, don't stick your hand over the edge of the boat! Didn't you watch Jaws?

Kathy, Chicago   July 29th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Wow, AC. I am off to attempt to snorkle next week. I really hope i don't get up close and personal with any great whites! Love the story, but please be careful!

Hannah Storm   July 29th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

oh those seals did not stand a chance. Anderson piece looks really good. Can't wait to see the full PIP 2

Gary   July 29th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

I wonder if those sharks have the appropriate permit to hunt seals?

Christine   July 29th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

I know all about the food chain and what needs to happen for all to survive, but I really don't like watching anything being eaten alive. This is not "Animal Planet." Anderson should have be more careful.

Larry   July 29th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Will a great white shark take on a killer whale?

Imma Alino   July 29th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

Hi everyone,
The earthquake and the things happening lately is very scary.
This is the time to pray more than ever.
Thanks!

Ken   July 29th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

I wonder what would happen if Great Whites started tagging humans. LOL Brave man Anderson. Anderson Cooper, the SUPER SHARK MAN.

Megan Dresslar   July 29th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

I love seals!!!!!! but I am so scared of sharks!!!!!! Yikes!!!

Hannah Storm   July 29th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Lama/Obama :P

Melinda   July 29th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Can't believe Anderson is swimming with the sharks! I personally think it's crazy, but it's bringing attention to an important issue. Have fun and be safe AC! Good night all.

Heather Spokane, WA   July 29th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

I would have loved to go and do that! I would have loved to have gone and went in the water with the sharks in the cage! I would've been willing to be first to get into the cage. Sharks are so fascinating and its sad that they are so misunderstood and they are so vital to our eco system

David, Indiana   July 29th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

I'm glad to see CNN paying attention to the problem of HIV among blacks and in the U.S. overall. If this gets the attention of lawmakers, it might help prevent a lot of suffering and help people stay healthy.

gary tuchman cnn   July 29th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

hmm..how would you feel if a shark was circling your boat? i'm with anderson on this one..

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   July 29th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Good Tuesday evening..Good work, Campbell and Gary Tuchman. Shot of the Day? Kicked by a roo..talk about having the wind knocked out of you..Night all

Hannah Storm   July 29th, 2008 10:57 pm ET

this shot is crazy....the kangaroo went crazy

Janna   July 29th, 2008 10:57 pm ET

goodnight all & don't forget to get your earthquake/hurricane/tornado/etc kits in order! I had to change the expired batteries in mine.....

Maureen T   July 29th, 2008 10:57 pm ET

Andy is quite brave to be swimming with the sharks! Stay safe dear Andy! I can't wait until the next installment of Plant in Peril!

Victoria   July 29th, 2008 10:57 pm ET

She should have given the kangaroo a right hook! :)

Megan Dresslar   July 29th, 2008 10:58 pm ET

Good night Campbell, Gary, best bloggers and Anderson....
Have a great night!!!! Sleep tight!!!! ;)
See you tomorrow night!!!
Oh Wow!!! Kangaroo almost attack zookeeper, Day of the shot!!!!!!

gary tuchman cnn   July 29th, 2008 10:58 pm ET

goodnight all!

Kathy, Chicago   July 29th, 2008 10:58 pm ET

Thanks Campbell and Gary, good show tonight!

Lena. Canada   July 29th, 2008 10:59 pm ET

Hey Campbell – you know what's really interesting is that those Great Whites weren't that big in comparison to some of the other Sharks we've seen!

Ken   July 29th, 2008 10:59 pm ET

Larry July 29th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Will a great white shark take on a killer whale?

Yes Larry. Great Whites do attack them.

Hannah Storm   July 29th, 2008 10:59 pm ET

good show......night everyone
