It's one of the monthly gatherings at Urban Grind coffee house that has lured talent as spoken word emerges from the underground.

Artists such as Tommy Bottoms, Goldie, Chas, Nukola, and TheresaThaSongbird take turns at the microphone testing their poetic skills. These new bohemians of varying talent coin rhymes about subjects ranging from AIDS and prostitution, to high gas prices and the pangs of unrequited love.

But it was the MC who got the most props that night...

Jon Goode is an awesome lyricist! I wondered who he was last night as I watched the special. Thanks for telling and showing us about him. No wonder he is a Emmy nominee...he is great!

Thanks for posting the clip of Jon Goode doing his thing so well. I really enjoyed him through out the special last night and can not wait what he has in store for part 2.

I think it is a tad ironic that a show which is meant to show the stereotyping and racial disparities towards blacks features a black stereotype to promote the show! A rhythmic "soul brotha" whose earthly lyrics help us to connect and shine the light upon the oppression of the black man (hey now, that sounded kinda soulful too, gimme a check!). I guess the criterea for what gets you a grammy nomination is subject to affirmative action as well because this guy is mediocre at best.
