Tropical Storm Dolly is messing with Texas tonight. South Padre Island took a direct hit when the storm came ashore earlier today, as a category two hurricane with 100+ mph winds. All over the island, roofs are gone, trees are uprooted and many residents will have a lot to clean-up. We noticed on the town’s web site the slogan “Where Paradise meets the Gulf”. It’s not a paradise tonight. 360’s Gary Tuchman is on the island for us. It’s been a tough assignment for him. You may have seen him earlier today on CNN. He’ll have the latest on Dolly.
Also tonight, Barack Obama in the Middle East.
He spent the day meeting with Israeli and Palestinian leaders. Meantime, John McCain is taking some unusual steps to get try to attention while his opponent is overseas. We’ve got the raw politics. And, a GOP politican says he won’t be McCain’s running mate. We’ll tell you who.
Plus, Black in America. The story of two brothers living very different lives. One is a preacher and a college professor. The other is serving a life sentence for murder. More of Soledad O’Brien’s fascinating look at race in America tonight on 360°.
All that and more tonight at 11pm ET, after Black in America.
Hope you’ll join us.

July 23rd, 2008 9:47 pm ET Dolly really messed up a lot but at least it wasn’t worse and no one died. Let’s hope now that the levees hold and that there is no major flooding. Hopefully Gary and the crew got inside and out of that 120 MPH winds! Cindy…Ga. |

July 23rd, 2008 10:40 pm ET Watching Gary and the winds and rain today it was hard to believe Dolly was just a Cat 1 storm. I’m interested in seeing if some of the drought areas in Texas will get some much needed rain courtesy of Dolly and if the rain will be slow enough to soak in instead of just running off. Gary and the others covering the storm are really dedicated - I don’t think you could pay me to stand outside in a hurricane. Annie Kate |

July 24th, 2008 1:46 am ET Many of us expatriates here do not receive CNN on the tele and wonder just how can we get a copy of the documentary Black In America? Thank God two folks mangaged to tape it last night. Many here in Germany are excited about Obama and continue to ask me, a black american, about racial issues in america and to compare treatment here verses U.S.A. The documentary is crucial as a spark for change and should be available for view worldwide. Great Job!!!!! Much respect and continue to keep it real. |

July 24th, 2008 2:51 am ET I think the first part of Black in America was done very well. I’m a single black father raising a 10 year old daughter alone. I now know some of the things single moms go through when trying to raise a family alone. In part two of Black in America the black man I want to see if Soledad touches on black fathers raising a family alone. |
