Hi, everyone – already a busy night!

Gary   June 24th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Hello all...gee, Obama is now asking all the poor people to pay off Hillary's debt.

MaryBeth   June 24th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Hello, everyone. Another night of exciting blogging.

Hannah Storm   June 24th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Megan Dresslar   June 24th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Hellooooo Anderson, Erica, and Bloggers!!!!!!
Welcome back to AC360 Erica!!!! missed you. :)
Whoa there is breaking news I see. I was surprised Hillary Clinton owes $22 million!

Julliet   June 24th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Hi Anderson, bloggers and Erica welcome back

Janna   June 24th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Welcome back, Erica Hill!

Larry   June 24th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

So many topics , so little time:)

Good Day to all!!!

Shannon   June 24th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

I do not see why Obama would pay anything for Hillary. He did not ask her to stay in the contest when she was already in debt.

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   June 24th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

I don't like the idea of Obama paying off Hillary Clinton's debt. I don't care how usual this might be, It sounds like he is buying her support.

MaryBeth   June 24th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

I think she's trying to get anyone to pay off her debt.

Kathy, Chicago   June 24th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

It must have been a tense day on Capital Hill.

Julliet   June 24th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Hillary is a very smart politician, so is her husband and I like them both

MaryBeth   June 24th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Maybe Bill can pay off her debt? He rakes in millions from public speaking engagements.

EJ (USA)   June 24th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Well that's because Barack is a nice guy.

Jolene   June 24th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Hello bloggers! Paying off some of Hillary's debt is the least Obama could do since he is depending on her for his "Unity" tour.

Cindy   June 24th, 2008 10:04 pm ET

Hey..if Obama wants to pay off Hillary's debt more power to him!

Cindy...Ga.

Julliet   June 24th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Helping pay off Hillary's debt is a sign of unity, isn't it?

Franky   June 24th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

I don't know Anderson all I'm saying hopefully is a good excuse to earn that money for her....

Erica Hill
CNN
  June 24th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Thanks, everyone ~ nice to be back :-)

Megan Dresslar   June 24th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Yeah, Joann....
I agree with you....... I don't like Obama paying off her debt.

Cindy   June 24th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

I'm not surprised that Bill had a spokesman say he was backing Obama. I think there is a lot of bad feelings there!

Cindy..Ga.

Laylah   June 24th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Hey bloggers! Hillary has a mountain of debt, how can you just owe yourself 12M, sheesh! Senator Obama is really nice to ask people to help her to pay off her debt

Cynthia   June 24th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

I think it is nice of Senator Obama to help with her debt. Otherwise she would have to eat a good portion of it.

Julliet   June 24th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Bill will come around when the time is right. He might be working a deal with the Obama campaign with his delayed endorsement.

Shannon   June 24th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

I don't like him paying it off, but I guess if it move the election so be it. I think it is extremely weird. I don't understand why it is the right thing to do.

Megan Dresslar   June 24th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

Erica,
You're so welcome! :)

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   June 24th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

EJ (USA), I think it has more to do with him wanting her support and needing the votes of her supporters. I don't think it has anything to do with being "nice."

Mike, Syracuse, NY   June 24th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

EJ, Obama being a 'nice guy' has nothing to do with it. He needs her supporters, so needs her good will.

Gary   June 24th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

Obama taking and using someone's money to pay Hillary's debt. Sounds familiar.

MaryBeth   June 24th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

The right thing to do? Why? He didn't force her to go into debt, she did that by herself. Obviously she wasn't as good at fundraising as he was...why is that Obama's problem?

Hannah Storm   June 24th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

it is very nice that Obama is asking people to help Clinton with her debt. If the roles were reverse, I don't know if the graciousness would be flowing like this

jacqueline   June 24th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

I am an Obama supporter but I WILL ABSOLUTELY NOT! NOT give money to bail Hillary out of her debt. She used her money to run a dirty campaign against him. Now Obama is talking loco, but I still support him.

Julliet   June 24th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

Yap, Obama is really nice to help pay the debt, I agree Laylay.

Shannon   June 24th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

I don't believe that John McCain or the Republicans would keep us more safe on the war in terror. I think they are the reason that it has escalated!

Jolene   June 24th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

At this point does it really matter if Bill Clinton endorses Obama? HIllary brings him the women vote but I don't think Bill offers anything except perhaps his popularity and influence.

Cynthia   June 24th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

Mike there is no guarantee that her diehard supporters will support him. I think it is a goodwill gesture. There are some who will vote against their own best interest because they are upset.

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   June 24th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

Mike, Syracuse, NY, It is all about doing anything to win.

Lou   June 24th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

Good evening Anderson, Erica and fellow bloggers

Jana, Indiana   June 24th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

Hello Anderson and fellow bloggers.

Jo Ann, I agree, I think Obama just wants Hillary and Hillary's supporters, so he is going to pay off her debt.

Megan Dresslar   June 24th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

Shannon,
I agree, you are right, I don't either understand why he is doing right thing to help her.

Cynthia   June 24th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

He is not using the money given from his personal internet donors.

Cindy   June 24th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

I think Obama is weak on more than just national security.

Cindy..Ga.

Janna   June 24th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

If helping pay the debt is common, than wouldn't Obama just look bad if he didn't? He didn't have a choice here

Shannon   June 24th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

I think that Obama has most of her supporters as he is now leading in the double digits.

Mike, Syracuse, NY   June 24th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

Jo Ann, that's why Obama's positions keep changing faster than you can follow them. say anything to win.

Lou   June 24th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

I guess Barrack is asking his supporters to pay off her debt so her supporters will support him

Julliet   June 24th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

Guys this is politics, if it takes Obama's help to pay off Hillary's debt to win the GE, you bet he will do it.

Mariolynn   June 24th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

I think Obama should stay the hell away from Hilary , I dont trust her.

Tiffany (San Diego)   June 24th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

I agree Jo Ann. For me, when it comes to politics the word "nice" doesn't come to mind.

Stacy   June 24th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Ugh, more Imus? Can't we just ignore him? I'm sure there are better things to talk about.

liz   June 24th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Great Work Candy, I wonder how Sen Clinton will climb her way out of the campaign debt.

Kathy S   June 24th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

He's just asking his supporters to help her. He isn't using any money that has been given to him.
If he can get them to give her money, good for him.
He still has to win her supporters on his merits. Doubt that helping with her debt will sway anyone.

Cynthia   June 24th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Mike, you want to talk about changing their postion. Senator McCain has changed his so often or can't remember I'm not really sure what he stands for.

debbie flizack   June 24th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

pay off hilary's debt? no one paid off my debt..this is kinda like a day at the casino's...everything is on chance..i am appalled....

EJ (USA)   June 24th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Anderson says "As always, I'm blogging throughout the hour"

He should say "As always, I say that I am blogging but I only usually say hi & bye once a week since I got called on using the "my computer is broken" excuse too many times and I wouldn't mind if they got rid of this live blogging thing because its just another thing to add to my already hectic day!"

Mike, Syracuse, NY   June 24th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Cynthia, I think some of Hillary's supporters won't vote for Obama because they know he's not qualified. They are being Americans first, Democrats second.

Lou   June 24th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Dr, Dobson and fruitcakes in the same sentence hmmmm

Shannon   June 24th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Mike, we get it you don't like Obama. This doesn't make what you say true. Obama has changed his mind very few times compared to the flip flops by McCain.

Vickie   June 24th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Hey Anderson and Erica,
Of course Obama should pay off her debt, he needs her voters and this is a show of unity and acceptance that Hillary is a force to be reckoned with and her voters are not easily swayed by his "sweet talk: about Hillary's accomplishments

Karen--Leesburg, VA   June 24th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Hi Anderson, Erica and Bloggers! Helping Hillary pay off her campaign debt is actually a pretty civilized thing to do in political terms–that and savvy Quid Pro Quo.

Lyann, Colorado Springs   June 24th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

I agree with Stacy....Imus is never gonna smarten up and keep his mouth in check...lets not give him any more attention.

Laylah   June 24th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

I like Dr. Dobson and his focus on the family movement, but I think he was rather harsh and mean regarding his comments on Senator Obama.

Casey   June 24th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

We have to have separation of church and state. Period.

Cindy   June 24th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Every politician and President has made decisions for this country based on their religion and beliefs. If Obama doesn't think that he needs to get real!

Cindy...Ga.

Hannah Storm   June 24th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

I am an evangelical Christian and I think what James Dobson today was just completely insane. When did he become a biblical scholar??? Did he even study theology?

jacqueline   June 24th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Fine, let him pay off her debt with his own money, if he wants to. LOCO! LOCO! But how dare he ask the public to pay off her debt. Let her supporters bail out. Maybe I should ask her to pay off mine.

MaryBeth   June 24th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Why is it "usual" for the winning candidate to pay off the losing candidate's debt? Is this some sort of "campaign reparations"? The winning candidate saying "sorry I beat you, let pay your bills?"

Cynthia   June 24th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Mike, its obvious you don't support him. I gathered that a long time ago from reading your blog. But, as I told you the other night – that's the great thing about America – we are all entitled to our opinion and our vote.

Megan Dresslar   June 24th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Hmmm, I wonder If Obama talking about bible policy, Why James Dobson accused Obama tonight?

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   June 24th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Are you kidding? We are supposed to believe that we are getting the truth from Al Sharpton and Roland Martin?

Maureen T   June 24th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Good evening all! An interesting show so far!

Kathy, Chicago   June 24th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

Most of the people in my religious studies class refer to Obama as a false prophet. i think that is a little over the top.

Shannon   June 24th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

I think James Dobson is feeling left out this cycle and really scraping the bottom of the barrel with this "new" argument.

Vickie   June 24th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

I hear you EJ, So True!!

Claire   June 24th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

Obama is right, thought, people have used the Bible to justify slavery and much more. It's open to interpretation by everyone. Besides, in the end, here in America there is supposed to be a separation of church and state. Not everyone is a Christian here in the US anyway.

Steve   June 24th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

I am a future pastor and have no problems with anything Obama is quoted as saying

MaryBeth   June 24th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Cindy: the point is leaders should not let their religion dictate political actions. That's part of the reason we left England. We need pure separation of church and state.

Cynthia   June 24th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

There are some lively people on the blog tonight. It should be very interesting

KELLY ANN, north jersey   June 24th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Obama has a 12% lead over McCain.... and asking his top supporters to help Clinton out with the debt. So amazing!! =]]

Max, Dallas, TX   June 24th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Ugh, Dobson. To echo the late great George Carlin, didn't Jesus leave instructions on how his followers should occupy their time? As in, doing GOOD instead of attacking people with false and poorly constructed claims?
All these "religious right" leaders, people self-proclaimed as "close" to christ are so often... terrible, hurtful people.
I don't expect this comment to make the cut, but it felt good to get out.

Nekol Dusek   June 24th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

i have been an obama supporter from the start........and i really dont understand how paying off her debt, brings the party together, i have contributed to the obama campaign .... not the payoff poor hilary for staying in the race too long campaign..

David NC   June 24th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Obama re leaving some of Hillary's debt is the right thing to do, however her campaign finances were a disaster. Sure she will have to take a hit on some of what she put into her campaign, but there should be some accountability from her advisers.

Lyann, Colorado Springs   June 24th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Doesnt just about everyone have their own interpretation of the bible? And how can Dobson determine what any other person believes, and who gave him the right to judge anyone's religous values? I thought that was GOD's job!

Cindy   June 24th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Obama is fooling himself if he thinks the evangelicals will vote for him!

Cindy...Ga.

kim-chicago   June 24th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Morality is NOT religion...morality is of all religions and all faiths.

Tracey - Boston   June 24th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Go to the Supreme court and see what you find...the ten commandments itched in stone at the doorway, moses in marble

Ken   June 24th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

The Clintons have made something like 100 million dollars since Bill
left office. Why can't they pay off their own debt?

Lamar Stone   June 24th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Keep religion in church!

Keep politics in the statehouse!

enough said!

Jolene   June 24th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Whew....the bloggers are cynical tonight! I may not be a big fan of those on the panel tonight but it's always interesting to hear what they have to say.

Cindy   June 24th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

MaryBeth...we say that but it has never ever been that way!!

Cindy..Ga.

Gary   June 24th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Are you all suggesting that Dobson doesn't have a right to express his views...Is the right to free speech reserved only for liberals?

Gregoris Georgiou   June 24th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

It is essential for Obama to help out senator Hillary. I think it iIs the right think as many from both sides did in the past. I remember when Hillary helped our a governor running for president pay off his debt.

MaryBeth   June 24th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Wow! I'm actually agreeing with Sharpton. We are NOT a theocracy, he is right. He's actually being logical....

Tracey - Boston   June 24th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

This country has separation of church and state...the church is not telling the government what to do

Hannah Storm   June 24th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

I am an evangelical and vote for Obama

Stacy   June 24th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

@EJ–Ha! Ouch. But not untrue. I say let Anderson just focus on the show.

Maureen T   June 24th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

There go the republicans again spreading fear in the masses! Go Obama!

Shannon   June 24th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Everyone does have their own interpretation of the bible and nothing that Obama said was offensive.

KELLY ANN, north jersey   June 24th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Yes, I do believe Imus actually.

Tanisha   June 24th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Obama is being the better man by helping Hillary pay off her debt. It's time to see some change. Obama helping Hillary lets us know that anything is possible.

deborah, OH   June 24th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Good evening all. I agree with JoAnn. This is where the 'truth' is coming from?!

Megan Dresslar   June 24th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

Cindy,
I agree with you, I thought Obama would not have vote bible or religious policy, I am sure that it hurts Obama.

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   June 24th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

I believe Imus' remark was not racist as much as I believe that Obama's "typical white person" comment was not racist.

Tracey - Boston   June 24th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

The separation of Church and State is based on Thomas Jefferson’s view of the Anglo Saxons before the Normans conquered England in 1066.

Cindy   June 24th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

We say we have separation of church and state but when someone as the president or whoever makes a law or a decision about a law they will always go with their beliefs! Always have.

Cindy...Ga.

Shannon   June 24th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

Gary, we never suggested he doesn't have the right to express his views. We just disagree with Dobson stance. He is presenting his limiited interpretation.

Casey   June 24th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

Of course Dobson has his right to say what he wants, and I (along with many others) have the right to say how ridiculous his comments are.

Kathy S   June 24th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

EJ, I sometimes have a difficult time watching the show and blogging at the same time. Imagine Anderson's job. I do believe that he reads the blog though. Maybe I'm wrong.

mike from boston   June 24th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

Your Evangelical guest refers to "Orthodox Christians" – he needs to clarify that he does not speak for the Orthodox Church of America or The Greek Orthodox Church. Let's not confuse a long-standing faith with a relatively new franchise with a somewhat fringe bent.

Julliet   June 24th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

There is nothing wrong with what Obama said about the bible and if al sharpton is not offended, why is James Dobson offended.

MaryBeth   June 24th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

Cindy: I know...it's sad. The problem is our laws deal with morality (killing, stealing, etc) and people see that as religious. It's not...it's just that some acts are morally wrong, religion just happen to agrees. Morality does not equal religion.

kim-chicago   June 24th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

Cindy why would you believe that evangelicals would be more inclined to vote for McCain?....because he is republican?

To me Obama seems to be a much more spiritual person and I can see evangelicals giving him a look!!

Denise   June 24th, 2008 10:24 pm ET

There are many strong Christian believers who do not classify themselves as Evangelicals–a political term, not a biblical term.

Cynthia   June 24th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

Roland, as the old saying goes – tell the truth and shame the devil.

Tracey - Boston   June 24th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

The Anglo Saxon’s had a ‘relaxed’ religion... however when the Normans arrived they brought 'strict' Catholicism ’strict’ and forced the Anglo Saxons to obey. It was the Church running the State.

deborah, OH   June 24th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

I think Stacy is right. Anderson seems to be very busy. Very lively & interesting show!

Maureen T   June 24th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

If only religion and politics were not entwined!

EJ (USA)   June 24th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

Kathy S – I was just teasin' Anderson. I know he's busy. I have a lot of respect for Anderson.

Julliet   June 24th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Yes Anderson you are absolutely right, but the evangelicals left behind by McCain feel the need to be in the spot light hence this statement from Dobson.

Tracey - Boston   June 24th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

mike from boston...thank you very much!!!

you fellow bostonian, greek orthodox christian

Cindy   June 24th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Kim...Chicago...Because Obama's stance on the issues goes against everything that evangelicals stand for.

Cindy...Ga.

Gary   June 24th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Shannon, it is your opinion that he is presenting a "limited interpretation". Not a fact. And there are people here who would prefer that Dobson NOT express his positions. I have heard many secular comments (not here and now) that actually say Christians should be seen but not heard.

Teresa, OH   June 24th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Did anyone else notice how terribly uncomfortable Obama was during the clip they showed?

allon   June 24th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

What about the seperation of Church and State? Doesn't every church pick and choose what scriptures suit them?

Sandi - NC   June 24th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

I think Barack's point, is that our country is from many religions, many interpretations of the Bible, and that as a President, you have to respect all of them, but not allow the extreme differences in interpretation to have influence on how the constitution is followed. The meaning is clear, the media is blowing this out of proportion.

Claire   June 24th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

One person's values may not be another's. Why is that the religious right seem to believe that their views are the only ones that are true and right? They can be true and right for themselves but they don't have to be right for me.

deborah, OH   June 24th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Religion & politics are always going to go together. Sad, but true.

Kathy S   June 24th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

EJ, glad to hear that.

Tracey - Boston   June 24th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

That is the basis of separation of Church and State !! If people understood their American history this would not be an issue.

Susan - North Haven, CT   June 24th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

What happened to "change"??

Separation of Church & State should be at the top of Obama's list. He's caving.

Marteen, Reno NV   June 24th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

Obama is paying or praying for those 18 millions voters to swing his way – at the cost of 10 million or so. sounds desperate to me.

Laylah   June 24th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

I like Rolands idea on getting Senators Obama, McCain and Dr. Dobson together. That would make for interesgting TV especially if McCain can stay awake

jacqueline   June 24th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Rev is right on the difference between the the politics and the personal religion.

Anderson, you're not concerned about your eternal existence? I'll pray for you.

Megan Dresslar   June 24th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Anderson,
I agree with Juliet. You're right about that.

Jolene   June 24th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

Well, Obama's strategy is to go after the white evangelical vote. Good for him. McCain tends to shy away from any faith talk.

Tanisha   June 24th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

I don't think it's good anyone puts God and politics together. But hey this is just my opinion.

Dee F.   June 24th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Roland always spices up the show!!!!

Jolene   June 24th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

I think Gary Tuchman is starting a new fasion trend with the waders!

Anderson Cooper
CNN
  June 24th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

sorry, im late to the party

Julliet   June 24th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Gary is really a hero in my view for his coverage of this flood, he always goes above and beyond just to get the story thru. Thanks Gary.

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   June 24th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

It's hard to believe that the water is still rising. I really must admire the extreme hard work of the victims of this flooding.

Hannah Storm   June 24th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

it does not surprise me that Gary Tuchman would walk down a submerged street

Jenny   June 24th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

I agree with Rev. Sharpton completely. And think that Dr. Dobson is doing evangelicals a disservice by being so unreasonable. People like him are the reason I left the church.

EJ (USA)   June 24th, 2008 10:32 pm ET

Every time I see Gary in those boots, I try so hard not to laugh.

Susan - North Haven, CT   June 24th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

If God starts talking to Obama like he did Bush, we're in BIG TROUBLE.

Hannah Storm   June 24th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

hey Anderson.....busy night

Cindy   June 24th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

I can't believe they are getting more rain!! When will they get a break out there!?

Cindy...Ga.

Jana, Indiana   June 24th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

I see Gary is back wading in that awful water again.

Those people are really working hard to keep their homes safe.

Wonder if they caught any fish?

Maureen T   June 24th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Great to see Erica back! Missed you Erica!

Stacy   June 24th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

That's okay, Anderson. You brought the drinks, right?

Megan Dresslar   June 24th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Oh Wow!
That is so terrible for people........ I am glad Gary T wear wader in the water, My breaking heart for them.......... my hearts go out to people.

Kathy S   June 24th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Wine country burning. What will I do? Not real crazy about beer.

Cynthia   June 24th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Dee F., in my opinion Roland tells it like it really is.

Dee F.   June 24th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

The award for most water logged reporter goes too ... Gary Tuchman!!!

MaryBeth   June 24th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Hannah: yeah...Gary is awesome. He went into that lady's basement in chest deep water to save some of her trophies.

Steve   June 24th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Tanisha It is not about putting God and politics together it is about being who you are as a person. If you are a religious person and you think religiously you can not separate that from the rest of your person. That would be like saying that I am 2 different people. However, it is wrong for ppl to push their views on others.

Lyann, Colorado Springs   June 24th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Better late than never Anderson!

Hannah Storm   June 24th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

I want that shirt really bad

Karen--Leesburg, VA   June 24th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

What we have to keep reminding ourselves is that it is "Freedom Of Religion" not "Freedom From Religion." We might argue, but it's still the best any country has ever had!

Mary H. St. Louis, MO   June 24th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

That's ok AC, the party is still going on for a little while. Good to see Gary again reporting on the flood. I hope the water starts to recede after tomorrow but what a long recovery and clean up that is awaiting...

Marteen, Reno NV   June 24th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

Hi Anderson – good job as always... and welcome back Erica

Karin   June 24th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

Just an observation from the country to the North... religion never seems to be an issue during any election to office in Canada regardless of the ethnic background of a candidate. There could be more to be said on that subject but I think I made my point.

Anderson,
That's ok....... I know you are so busy night!

Stacy   June 24th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Look at Erica Hill doing her best impression of a Price is Right model.

Hannah Storm   June 24th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

need the ice.....nothing warm or hot right :)

Sandi - NC   June 24th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

If FEMA doesn't step up to the plate this time with this flooding, I think American's are going to have a Revolution

Barbara   June 24th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Max from Dallas, you're right on the mark in your statement. I know what you mean by your maybe making the mark... I'm gald it did as none of my previous ones did; I've become to expect it but continue to check for the record.

i thought it was a good discussion between sharpton, martin and perkins. as always i like it when smart people discuss things intelligently without yelling and screaming at each other. way too much of that on tv

MaryBeth   June 24th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

I bet after the Flood of 08 Gary will never want to wear waders again!!! At least he doesn't have to wear a suit.

Stacy   June 24th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

@Anderson, if you're going back out anyway, bring chips!

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   June 24th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Jana, These people have great perseverance! I don't know that I could do it.

As usual, Gary is doing a great job covering this story!

jodi   June 24th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

why isnt New Orleans a reminder of what can happen if the levees break? get you and your famlies out of there! these are the same people who wull be crying later!!

I just dont get it??

deborah, OH   June 24th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Better late than never. Welcome! You have been busy tonight, Anderson.

Happy Birthday! to Cindy in Ga.

Tiffany (San Diego)   June 24th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Cindy..Ga.

ohh gummy bears sound great

Mary H. St. Louis, MO   June 24th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

Oh no IMUS in the morning... Hmm... I'm not sure I buy that he was trying to stand up for him.... what a mess...

Hannah Storm   June 24th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

skittles, definatly skittles....and gummy bears of course.....got to build up that stock

Missy   June 24th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

M&M's

jojo   June 24th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Great job Gary t. poor people keep getting worst and worst for them.

Julliet   June 24th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Imus should just go away or find another way to do sarcasim.

Nekol Dusek   June 24th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

I so agree with you Anderson, intelligence makes for much better television.

Sharon   June 24th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Whether we like it or not, religion and politics will always be intertwined because they both involve people interacting in a public way. Instead of bashing one or the other, I think the realisic way to move forward is to take both into account and to blend them. They each show forth who we are and what we think.

Maureen T   June 24th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Imus is still a shock jock and he should know better but once a shock jock always a shock jock! Open foot insert both feet!...

Stacy   June 24th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

There will always be people who want to listen to Imus, so there will always be those willing to hire him. Why are we still talking about this, again?

Susan - North Haven, CT   June 24th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

I have to take Imus' side on this one. I believe he was defending the guy.

Hannah Storm   June 24th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

you know a year ago I had no idea who Don Imus was and I feel like my life was better for it

deborah, OH   June 24th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

Don Imus can't seem to control himself or his mouth.

kim-chicago   June 24th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

Sorry Cindy... but I think that is a stereotypical view of evangelicals. I love the fact that he thinks he can break through that barrier...

how 'bout some guac for those chips, ac?

Dee F.   June 24th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

I think Roland said it all last night and on his blog describing 'Pac man' Jones!!!

Enough with Imus, he is who he is, he will never change.

Mike, Syracuse, NY   June 24th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

The thing about Imus, Howard Stern and the other shock jocks is that if you don't like them, don't listen.

Vicki   June 24th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

Can't wait to find out what happened to the girls in Gloucester - should be a short segment ... they had sex - without a condom!

Stacy   June 24th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

Ooh, gummy bears!

By the time the show is over all the bloggers are going to be raiding their kitchens for three-dimensional food.

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   June 24th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

No one can say for sure what Imus really meant. After all that the media and the black organizations put him through before does anyone really believe that he would make another negative racial comment?

deborah, OH   June 24th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

Ok, Erica, guac for the chips!

CaseyJPS - California   June 24th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

Apparently, Anderson is VERY happy tonight. Glad to see you back, Erica! You were missed!!

Steve   June 24th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

I wish ppl would just acknowlage that it is ok to be religious but a person just need to respect the ppl who disagree with them. Thats a new idea isn't it?

Jana, Indiana   June 24th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Jo Ann, I know I couldn't do it. We had some flooding here in Indiana, but nothing like those poor people in Iowa and Illinois. I have one friend that had flood insurance here in Indiana and she is having to fight to get what she has paid for.

MaryEllen Texas   June 24th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

If Imus was truly trying to make a sarcastic point and to highlight that african americans are unfairly treated by the police - is a crock. If that was Imus' position – he'd have used the moment to "shock" the police on his view & clearly make that position statement. Not wait 'til "after the fact".

Casey, Tennessee   June 24th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

you think with Imus' history, he'd be very careful with his words. if this his way of defending the guy he should of been a lot more clear with his choice of words.

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   June 24th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Mike, Syracuse, NY; I have heard Howard Stern say worse things than anything Imus has ever said, but he isn't as easy a target as Imus is and he would fight back.

Peb, Valley Village, California   June 24th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

The diversity of his staff excuse? That's not the first time that I've hear that type of excuse. That's like the excuse "some of my best friends are .........."

Max, Dallas, TX   June 24th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Dick Gregory! This is such a treat.

Angela   June 24th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Thanks for having Dick Gregory on tonight! It's always good to hear his perspective.

Maureen T   June 24th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

My goodness I have not seen Dick Gregory forever! It's great that you have him on the show! :)

Jolene   June 24th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Roland is right. Imus should have expanded on his point when he made it yesterday, not a day later.

Steve   June 24th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

I think that you have to take him at his word unless there is evidence that he is being dishonest.

MaryBeth   June 24th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

I agree. If he meant that blacks are profiled more for arrests and criminal activity, he should have clarified that right then and there.

Love Roland! "walk while black, drive while black" LOL

liz   June 24th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

" I read $1,000 worth of newspapers every 12 days" ... best quote of the night, definitely have Dick Gregory on again.

Laylah   June 24th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

I love Rolands straight talk! Pac Man Jones is a nut for real!

Julliet   June 24th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

We should all just leave Imus alone and he will go away.

kim-chicago   June 24th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Seriously...who cares about what Don Imus says...

Patrick   June 24th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

Yes, Imus loves to push boundaries. Yes, he should know better than to insert his foot AGAIN in his mouth. Remember, when we stop letting people express their views, right, wrong, or indifferent, we stop being America.

Marguerite   June 24th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Who cares about what Don Imus says? He should have cleared up his thoughts yesterday. I hope he did mean what he said, but once again...who cares about what Don Imus says?

Megan Dresslar   June 24th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Thanks for coming in Dick Gregory,
I agree with his comment.

Teresa, OH   June 24th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

I believe Imus meant it, and I'm ok with that. He spoke his truth.

Ana-Boston   June 24th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

deborah, OH   June 24th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Susan - North Haven, CT   June 24th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Roland... Every person's own mindset determines how they perceive what someone else says about African Americans – especially sarcastic remarks. Imus cannot be held responsible for the way others take what he says. That's THEIR issue – not his.

Hannah Storm   June 24th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Dick Gregory was great :)

Jolene   June 24th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

I'm on the edge of my seat for the pregnancy pact segment. Should be interesing hearing from one of the teen girls.

Gary   June 24th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Why don't you just get Imus to come on the show and explain his point of view. Then people could make up their mind. Instead we listen to a bunch of people speculate about it?

Mary H. St. Louis, MO   June 24th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Ok, I heard on the local news that the officials were stating there was no pregnacy pact .... this should be a good interview..

Mike, Syracuse, NY   June 24th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

I don't believe Imus' story. But I also don't care. His job is to be shocking. He bashes everyone. That's what shock jocks do. Why is everyone shocked when a leopard shows his spots? If a black comedian had said it, it would have been OK.

Sam   June 24th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

Why is there no discussion of the young men who got these 15 year olds pregnant? Something is wrong with the town when they only talk about the pact, but not about fact of the pregnancies themselves.

Nev   June 24th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

AC why is 100% of the conversation all about the 17 girls and their pact? What about the boys? Where they in or where they tricked into getting these girls pregnant? Just sayin... Cause THAT might be the real story!

Cindy   June 24th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

Seems like these girls were told to change their story.

Cindy..Ga.

Caroline, Los Angeles   June 24th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Is it scary that this girl seems to think being pregnant at 17 is no big deal? Maybe I'm just old....

Julliet   June 24th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

The preg. girls said there is no pact but decided after they got preg. to raise their children together? That # of preg. girls in one school is a heck of a lot.

MaryBeth   June 24th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

I didn't believe that girl. She paused before she said there was no pact...

Jana, Indiana   June 24th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Good night Anderson and all bloggers. Was really a great show tonight. A good mix of stories.

Maureen T   June 24th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

That young lady should get an education and eventually get a good job! Having babies should be down the line, way down the line!!

CaseyJPS - California   June 24th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

I love it. The young girl was on birth control! Take that, Tony Perkins.

Hannah Storm   June 24th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

omg a girl got pregnant because she got lonely....maybe we should be teaching self respect and self worth.

Cindy   June 24th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Night Anderson and all.

Cindy..Ga.

Angela, Ottawa, Canada   June 24th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Jolene, he couldn't have known it would be misinterpreted.

Well, he could have, but being himself, didn't. He should have a chance to expand now.

Steve   June 24th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

I don't think this Pact thing makes any sense and I don't think that ppl would accually do something like that I buy the coincidence story.

Jo Ann, North Royalton, Ohio   June 24th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Why isn't anyone talking about those irresponsible boys? They need to pay the price as well.

deborah, OH   June 24th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Night all. Great discussion tonight! See you tomorrow.

Mary H. St. Louis, MO   June 24th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

And sounds like the principal and other key members are now trying to change their story..

Zenta, New York, New York, NY   June 24th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Good program as usual. Have a wonderful night, Anderson, Erica, contributors and all bloggers!

Jolene   June 24th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

So what about the homeless dude that supposedly had sex with one of the teen girls? Sounds like they wanted to get pregnant to me! Intriguing story!

Mike, Syracuse, NY   June 24th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Sam, I agree. Many of the fathers apparently could be charged with statutory rape. Why aren't they going after them?

Nekol Dusek   June 24th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

I hope talking with my daughter (13) and making sure my son(16) knows how to respect a young lady never puts me in this position as a mother....

Karen--Leesburg, VA   June 24th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

You throw a great party Anderson! Fun people, good eats and chat!

Marguerite Toledo , OH   June 24th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

I thought the whole thing about the girls making a pact to get pregnant, was the stupidest thing I have ever heard. The problem is adults are paying attention to these kids in the first place. I was a teenage mom and I wish I would have made a pact with somebody to not get pregnant at all. Parents need to start paying attention to these kids and stop letting them raise themselves...I'm speaking from experience and from I have seen in other young mothers.

Caroline, Los Angeles   June 24th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Wow....what a pretty t-shirt!

Lou   June 24th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Good night all

Angela, Ottawa, Canada   June 24th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

I'm starting to think it would be less damaging for the school if there was a pact, they'd be able to blame it on Knocked Up instead of on a lack of sex-ed.

Megan Dresslar   June 24th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Good night Anderson, Erica and Bloggers!!!
Have a great night! Just sleep tight!! :)
See you tomorrow night!
Congrats Bart!!!! I want one!!!!!!!!

Dawn   June 24th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Imus probably didn't expand on his point because there was no point.
We need to just let this go. I think we have a few more pressing issues. I am with Erika, guac sounds great.

CaseyJPS - California   June 24th, 2008 10:56 pm ET
