Tammy:

I understand where your coming from and I feel your pain. I am not against Gays in any way, shape or form. I am against the Supreme Court ruling on an issue that affects the Majority in favour of the Minority! I have Gay friends and value their friendships. It is the way this issue was mishandled that ires many.

To give Gays the right to marry it is not necessary to change the wording of the Marriage Certificate! It is not necessary to remove the word Husband, Wife, Father, Mother. It is not necessary to have the same marriage certificate used for centuries adopted to fit our Gay society. They could have issued and instated another marriage certificate legaizing these unions and would allow the majority to
maintain the marriage certificate that has been in force for centuries!

It is the crass, indifference, injust measures used by the Supreme Court that has caused this issue to be a volatile debate. It is not hatred towards Gays that is at the core of this issue for me. It is the sacristy of marriage that the majority still feel attached to and hold dear that has instigated this uproar! And the Supreme Court should have embodied more respect for those they knew believe Marriage to be a Sacred Union. Regardless of the Divorce Rates, Broken Homes, etc. it is a State of Union and Sacred Union that has been recognized as such for centuries. The Supreme Court is way out of line and way off the map. They've driven a rod through Democracy instead of finding a solution that would have been acceptable to all.

"Marriage, civil unions, its just semantics." Say WUT?

It might be just semantics to you but it is not just semantics to the majority! It is a legal union of a man and a woman and what has always been a union blessed by God and State, for the purpose of sharing a life together and PRODUCING off spring.

It is a union that has been a state of societies since the beginning of time. It is a family union and bond that cements societies as communities and a part of the whole.

What the HEY has our world come to when a Court of a few men and women can dismantle in a day what has been in force for centuries?
And what the HEY has our world come to when a minority of people have the right to strip away the fabric of families across a Nation to appease their will?

SEMANTICS! It's the will of a few stripping away the rights of the masses that have been in force for centuries, all for their own personal gain, satisfaction and need to be included ! So let's just reword, reassemble, reassess, totally revamp this century old state of union so it reads, implies, ascertains what the minority feel comfortable with and let the Majority pound sand if they don't like it!
You better beware people. If the Supreme can rule on this they will rule on every other fabric of your lives at their will!

Wow, concerning the fact that USA always takes pride in being the country with most liberties and human rights, it is rather funny to see and read what a "problem" these gay marriages still are for all of the states there... what a hypocrisy! It's gonna turn out people are more liberal and understanding in other parts of the world where it was totally unimaginable...

I think that People have other things to worry about instead of gay marriage. Gay couples are fighting for rights that are deserved. They just want the right to get the benefits of loved ones and to be recognized as anyone else in this country. People that are against this issue need to get over it. I don't think its anyone's business if two people of the same gender get married. So if your "straight", how would you feel to be denied to marry someone you love and care for??? I don't think you would like it. You would fight for your rights as an American. If your not in the situation of a gay person you won't understand the frustration to be denied a right that "Everyone in this nation should have EQUAL RIGHTS!". You people that are against this issue have other things to be worrying about. GET A LIFE!...There's a war!...Gas Crisis!...Food Cost!..Health Care!. Worry about things that are going to effect your life. Not people you don't know.

Poor Tony Perkins. He's floundering, scratching and clawing at the last vestiges of political sway he ever thought he held, strung out on the wrong side of history and wondering why he just can't seem to get people in a froth anymore by lying and distorting and creating fear.

Well the sky did not fall in Massachusetts in the years since gay weddings have been legal. They still have the lowest divorce rate in the nation-- much lower than ANY of the Bible belt states. Has anyone heard even one straight couple say "Well we just don't want to get married anymore, since 'those people' are allowed to!"

Gay marriage does NOTHING at all to the institution of marriage, other than bring ten more percent of the population into the circle. The religious wingnuts, like John Hagee and Pat Robertson, are puzzled as to why the rest of us are not paying them attention anymore. They don't even realize how insane they sound and what a joke they've become to everyone when they said things like Katrina was God's wrath for New Orleans' gay pride, and too many crackpot statements to list here.

I'm just so proud to call California home. And hey, my partner of 27 years and I will be getting married soon, and you're all invited! Maybe more people will come to understand that it's about people falling in love with each other, that being gay is not all about sex. We have the same emotions you have and our love is every bit as strong and beautiful as yours.

I dislike gene's comment but he does have freedom of speech. I how ever am very proud that our country can once again say we stand for equal right for all and can use our influence around the world to help women get educated in certain countries and let people who are oppress raise. Josh's Comment was funny and right. My mother married twice and my father 3 times and is working on his 4th marriage is corrupt already so what is the big deal we have bigger issues that actually hurt EVERY America other then a small good of bigots, social conservatives, and racist. Oh and Sean I think your comment was very John McKaine-ish do not forget some gay bashers kill gay people and keep the from more then just marriage jobs, housing, soical groups, and even some universities You make the opposition seem so innocent.

I'm glad to see that couples can be married- no matter what their sexual preference. That America as a whole is more tolerant is something to be applauded, not shunned. To those that oppose it- think of it this way, would you, after years of knowing someone and being in love, want to see the court doors slammed shut in your face? No. No one is forcing straight people to marry same-sex partners, so it should not effect those that disagree with it.

Congrads to all my California friends who will be married today, after years of fighting and struggle.

I was one of many in CA to gather signatures to get
the marriage between a man and a woman bill on the ballot and
passed into law. It was done once, and it can be done again! It is
wrong for a few judges to overturn that law. Don't Checks and
Balances apply to all branches of government; Doesn't it apply to
all levels of government? It should! God loves everyone; we need
to have an awareness of God, His attributes, HIs love and forgiveness, and our place in eternity.

Between now and the election, gay Californians will get married, and opponents might note with relief that the moon will not ignite, nor the sun collapse, nor the oceans vanish. The world at large will go on generally as messed up as before, though no worse, and now, with a little more freedom for some citizens in California. After 4.5 months, maybe opponents will recognize that no harm has come to them even as their fellow citizens were allowed to live their dreams. Maybe then they'll see that gay marriage is no threat, and it makes some good people happy. Maybe then charity and compassion will convince them to simply ignore the issue in November. Naive? Maybe, but I'd like to have some faith in the good will of Californians.

For those who use the title "Christian", it would be nice if they acted as Christ would act. Christ was always at odds with the religious establishment of His day, spending His time with the social outcasts. Feed the poor, heal the sick, clothe the needy, love your neighbor (all of them not just pick and choose"and treat them as you would expect them to treat you, these are what He taught, not discrimination, intolerance and hatred. Marriage equality is an issue of fairness. When someone says that God created marriage, they don't know what they are talking about. Man created marriage and expected God to sanction it. Gays are about the last group of people that can be discriminated against or controled and the opposition is desparate to hang on to that power and control.

This ought to be a day of mourning and repentance in the land for such ungodly acts that are even against nature itself. I never thought I would seed the day when people would call evil good and good evil, but that day has arrived. which lets me know we are one day closer to the second coming of our Lord and Savoiour Jesus Christ. Then we will see which court has the final say and power.

I always wonder why anti-gay people CARE so much about this.

Look, I'm straight, I'm in the Army, I'm an Alpha Male. And I simply do not care what other people do in their own beds, as long as their doing it with consenting, mentally competant adults.

Isn't that freedom? Isn't that America?

Or are we to bow to bedroom Nazis?

There is NOTHING in the Constitution about marriage. And those who have problems with gay marriage have problems due to, mostly , their religious beliefs.

Well, guess what. If religious belief were law, we'd be like...Afghanistan.

I am disgusted with all these religious and right-wing freaks who somehow claim that THEY are really what America is all about, when in fact what they are for is THEOCRACY.

Live and let live, good people.

Live and let live, good people.

For all you decrying the "Liberal" Supreme Court of California. The majority of Judges VOTING FOR same sex marriages are REPUBLICANS appointed by REPUBLICAN governors!

I'm glad some Republicans care about equal rights for all. Good for them.

Congratulations to all who wish to and now can marry.

Gay marriage is one more major sign that the USA is in moral decline. Natural disasters, loss of respect and influence worldwide, economic disaster, turning from God and his good news, apathy, all point to the decadence and immoralilty griping most Americans and this country. Face it, we are in a rapid decline, ala Fall of the Roman Empire. People who ignore absolute rights and wrongs will answer to God.

The most concerning issue of the whole thing to me is that the judges overturned the majority vote. If the majority votes their local political leaders out of office, can they appeal and have that overturned as well? What else can they overturn?

If you though that every vote should have been recounted in Florida during the last couple of elections, lets take a look at this situation. The vote is clearly in the majority in one direction and it is overturned. Will this set a precedent for the future?

The state of California should be concerned with way more than just gay marriage! These rulings are unjustly brought against the will of the people. Its not politically driven or they would side with the majority. What other hidden agendas do they have?

Congrats for the gays!!

If all is required for marriage is for people to love each other in a commited relationship, heck why stop there!! Let polgamy reign!!!

Shoot, if a mother wants to marry her son, a grandfather to his granddaughter/grandson, according to the logic behind gay marriage, that's OK too!!

"Will of the People". "Will of the Majority". "Moral Beliefs". "Silent Majority". "State's Rights." "Popular Vote".

The same phrases have been used to discriminate time and time again in a nation that prides itself on life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Activist judges had to force the majority in many states to end Segregation and allow Interracial Marriage.

I don't even know any homosexuals, but I know right from wrong. The majority takes a long time to figure it out.

To comment that any silence is approval is ridiculous. Most of us who disapprove realize that we are without a voice. I voted against this in California and now have had my voice overturned by a court that consistently misinterprets the constitution. As the United States becomes more secular those of us with any spiritual belief are marginalized and villified. I am tolerant of relationships between those of the gay, lesbian, and transgendered community, but to call it marriage as is disgrace to the definition of marriage. Further, I find little tolerance for my views in the community to which I am tolerant.

If anyone thinks homosexual weddings are a threat to the sanctity of marriage, what do they think about Heterosexual divorce?

As for courts who override the demands of the electorate, there was a day when the Supreme Court told white voters in some states they couldn't have apartheid anymore (we didn't call it that, but that's what we called it in South Africa thirty years later). Now those courts look courageous and smart.
