CNN Senior Political Correspondent

Bloggees- Greetings from the parking lot of a high school in Bristol, Virginia where we have put up our tent. (This is not a metaphor. See photo.)

Just quick breaking news- because I want you, my peeps, to hear first: The presumptive democratic nominee senator Barack Obama says the Lakers in 6.

Still, he really really likes Kevin Garnett. I’m not fluent in basketball. So Obama explained to me that Kevin is “the tall guy” on the Celtics.

Oh good grief, I know it’s a serious election — of course I asked him lots and lots of stuff. So watch.

“The tall guy on the Celtics” Which one, they are all tall!

Just kidding, at least I know Keving Garnett is. I think Obama just secured himself all of the Los Angeles vote! LOL

Oh Candy- I can’t believe you the one with the magic voice and amazing writing who can make anything sound good enough to eat. Is now using the word ‘peeps’. I guess it has come to that. You have to be cool with the new lingo. I still wont say awesome. Anyway, you got first dibs. I hope he felt comfortable enough with you to actually talk for a change rather than bottle it up for speeches.

June T.   June 5th, 2008 5:33 pm ET

Hi, I am a Hillary Clinton supporter. It would make me very happy if Senator O’bama would ask her to be his running mate. I know there has been comments and stuff made, but that is politic’s..
I will vote for Senator O’bama only if he invites her to be his running mate. She is a wonderful, strong woman who would be a wonderful help-mate to any President. She probably ran the country when Bill was in office, if the truth be know.
She is another Eleanor Roosevelt, she is a wonderful person. She is a great leader, I am sure she was behind our balanced budget with a surplus in the ninety’s. We are in debt, we have no friends in the world, thanks to the Bush Admin., and with both Barack and Hillary, there would be some changes made in that reguard.
Our Country is in bad trouble, and with Barack and Hillary together, we have a chance..thanks JT

Sandy Brown   June 5th, 2008 5:34 pm ET

I am a former soldier, and a veteran as well, and I don’t know whether to weep or scream. We get on these battle fields to so called protect our country, with many never returning. As I have watched this election, I am not only offended but ashamed to be called an American, but I am ashamed to live in a country that we’re sworn to protect, but refuses to see its own prejudice. On one hand we have Mrs Clinton, who told the world that they could gain the black vote better than Obama, and she did. Then she shifted her efforts and said she could get the white vote better than him as well, but couldn’t and lost the race. Then on the other hand she says she loves this country, and wants the best for it, but not one time has she gave any congratulations to the man that won. Her response has shown more than the bitterness of a woman’s scorn, it now reflects her own racist attitude about the same people that she gained the most votes from, Blacks! But not one time as of this date, have you still yet gave him his respect and due, nevertheless, he honored you and respected you on a night that was not only historical but his winning night. To add more injury to insult, I now wonder if the comment she made about JFK, was really wishing the man dies, so she could reign? It now makes one wonder if she sold her soul to the devil, because she has shown, she doesn’t love, she loves herself. Mrs. Clinton, you say you care about your country, then why don’t you get on your private jet and grab a weapon, and get into these trenches with the soldiers so you can really see what it means to truly serve your country! I am glad thank black people are seeing you for what you really are, a liar and will do and say anything to get a vote, but are a coward and fraud.

You want to be the dictator of this country, now I see why the old slogan says, “Don’t put a women in any position.” You have shown us all why, Ohhh……by the way, I am a women!

Cindy   June 5th, 2008 5:39 pm ET

I’ll be watching Candy…so it better be good! LOL Just kidding!

Cindy..Ga.

Jay, Denver CO   June 5th, 2008 5:41 pm ET

To June T.:

You will only vote for him if he selects Hillary? Really? So you don’t vote on policies and issues just gender. Great!

Have fun living in a pro-life world!

McCain ‘08!

pati mc., camp hill, pa   June 5th, 2008 5:52 pm ET

Hi Candy,

Firstly I must tell you how much I enjoy your reporting. You are wonderful to watch, you always bring the most fascinating info to the table and your sense of humor is spot on!! Keep up the amazing job. We love you!

Second, thanks for keeping we peeps informed. I cannot wait to see you tonight. Thanks also for blogging. We love hearing from you.

Surely you all are glad that the primaries are out of the way, course, now the real fun starts. Heh heh. Please get some rest! We look forward to seeing you on 360 – the more the better!

All The Best Candy!

Larry   June 5th, 2008 5:59 pm ET

McCain/ Romney 08

Obama/ Jackson ( no, not michael LOL )

todd   June 5th, 2008 6:06 pm ET

CNN get your facts straight. There may be some supporters of Clintons voting for Obama but it is a limited . I, myself, A Clinton supporter, will be voting for McCain. Reasons why?

Your station was biased on every topic concerning Clinton during the primaries.

Obama doesn’t have enough experience and is not qualified.

Obama is gives a good speech. He runs around every question with a rendition of we want change. What kind of changes? How can he bring peace and harmony when he doesn’t know what it is? Maybe , he will Confer with Rev. Wright when he needs to clarify what peace and unity means.

DP short changed Clinton. It was obvious that they wanted her out early.

DP doesn’t have any allegiance anymore.

There is a thing of being too conservative and too liberal . Obama is way too liberal. Almost a joke!

His wife didn’t seem to care for Americans until now.

Did I mentioned that your show and your station was very biased. That was so unfair.

The majority of African Americans voted for their race instead if issues. Now, you define what racism is.

Racisms goes both ways but you guys just saw it one way because you were too cowardly to mentioned how racism played a part in this election. Bad , Bad, jounalism. At it’s worst! However you pointed out everything that Senator Clinton said or done as being negative. Even though some of my best freinds are black, this was some of the worst racism I’ve seen in a long time. So , we are not getting anywhere in this country. We are more divided now than ever. The African Americans would not vote for Clinton because she was a white woman. Even her supposedly one time supporter, Oprah was racist to an extent. Shame on you all. You all are cowards!

Mary H - St. Louis, MO   June 5th, 2008 6:13 pm ET

I love all the slang hip talk on AC360 and the blog. First it is boo and now peeps…

What next… BTYL, ROFL

Peace out… Later

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   June 5th, 2008 6:14 pm ET

Well Candy,
Life under the big tent is suppose to be a real circus! Basketball would not be my fun moment of conversation, however, I guess in an important interview..you have to keep your eye on the ball..A chat is a chat, once the lights and makeup are on.

Lorie Ann, Buellton, Calif.

Sam Johnson   June 5th, 2008 6:16 pm ET

WOW!! These are crazy comments to a blog regarding basketball.

To Sandy, calm WAY down! I respect your service to our country…but, the hate you have shown in your comment does not help solve anything. Your comment only inspires hate…there are better words to get your opinion accross, and more people might take you more serious had you used them.

To June T, I am a Barack Obama supporter, and yet I don’t hate Hillary! Can you even believe that is possible? I actually thought her speech was good, even though I was expecting a concession speech. Even though I like her, it is Obama that I support and McCain I want to keep out of the white house. Clinton or no Clinton, I think we all need to rally behind Obama…

Just my opinion on this basketball related blog…

Sam Johnson, Ft Worth

Esbee   June 5th, 2008 6:22 pm ET

Wow Candy

Tell me—-did Obama have the nerve to call you “Sweetie” too?

Smarter than that   June 5th, 2008 6:29 pm ET

Candy you are the coolest. Candy for VP.

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   June 5th, 2008 6:37 pm ET

Hello Candy!
My, my you really ARE in a tent, huh? I was waiting to respond until I could see if you were telling the truth! ;-)
I don’t speak~a the basketball language either. Yeah, Lakers in 6. Hmm, ok whatever~
You keep us in suspense, so I’ll definitely be watching! Are you related to Alfred Hitchcock? I know, I know Psycho and Birds and scary stuff. . .
Your interview with Obama will have a happy ending, right?
Thanks!

Pamela burgess   June 5th, 2008 6:56 pm ET

The other night my comments were pulled from you list right in front of my daughter reading it on your site. That is what you do….:You only put
the “ruling class status Quo” your network owners thinking which is no intelligent woman in top offices. Thus, we have and id—like Pelosi.
that is acceptable and you of course. Have you been told to report this stuff to keep your job? Sandy somebody comments about Hillary were
stupid. She is just another brainwashed woman believing the typical
male propaganda. I do not expect this to be one the comments because it considered radical thinking. Radical??? Look at your stuff
from the last months on this campaign then you can see radical. Where can we go for more truth in reporting? Europe, the Bbc—-actually anywhere else. Print

Carol B., Virginia   June 5th, 2008 7:02 pm ET

Hey Candy. Although there’s probably some serious campaign talk, that’s some fun facts. He’s also old enough to remember the halcyon days of The Celtics with Bird, McHale, and the others.

Pamela burgess   June 5th, 2008 7:14 pm ET

Todd, Great comments, I was surprised they put my comments on there but it says the same thing as the other evening. Awaiting moderation which means remove it, it is too controverscial. we are all so lazy today when it comes to getting the facts instead of taking someone like Candy at face value.

Ratna, New York, NY   June 5th, 2008 7:29 pm ET

Candy, I’ll be watching! :)

Ann   June 5th, 2008 7:30 pm ET

Well, that’s one thing you’ve gotten right….he is the “presumptive” nominee. Basketball should be the least of his worries! He needs to learn something about foreign policy instead of basketball. I give it a few months and I bet none of the reporters will be laughing when it comes to Obama. Especially at the rate we keep finding out all the negative about him! Bet you won’t print this one, Candy! If it ain’t Hillary 08…I guess McCain 08

Shirley   June 5th, 2008 7:41 pm ET

Candy, you need to tell your fellow workers at CNN that Hillary does NOT have to deliver her backers to Obama, he has to earn them, just like she did!!!!!!! I and a lot of my friends do NOT want Hillary as VP, she needs to go back to the Senate, do a great job and run again in 2012. She has to much experience and talent to be 2nd best !! This whole primary the Hillary=Haters have been on Cnn, Kara, Jack M., Toobin, Anderson. I am glad Clinton just suspended her race, there will be more Jeremiah Moments!! Many of us will join “Clintonites for McCain” Protect the USA!!

Sirri Nomo   June 5th, 2008 7:43 pm ET

Please tell me I am wrong! Hillary tells evcery one she is better than Obama..even after she lost. Why would he pick her when she believes she is better? Isn’t that a recipe for trouble? I also feel as if he is being black mailed by all those who are putting presure on him to pick her so they will not go out and vote for Mc. Vote for the policies and not for the sex or color of the skin!!!!.
Sirri N.

jacquelineph, ny   June 5th, 2008 7:49 pm ET

LOL! My Peeps!? Candy, you’re funny.

Aaron   June 5th, 2008 7:52 pm ET

To Todd,

First, this was suppose to be a basketball blog, but since you went there, pulling the race card, being a black man, so lets go… Tell me Todd, what did Hillary mean by Obama can’t win the “white vote”? What do all the states she won have in common? Give you a hint… the same makeup she said he couldn’t win. I’m from Michigan, she won this state despite a large black population from Detroit, Flint, Grand Rapids, etc. You are a typical sore, bitter, loser.

Mari, Salt Lake City   June 5th, 2008 7:53 pm ET

Thanks for the giggle, Candy! Love your reporting!

Kristen- Philadelphia, PA   June 5th, 2008 8:15 pm ET

Candy you rock can not wait to see your interview tonight, know it will be great.

Annie Kate   June 5th, 2008 8:26 pm ET

Hey Candy!

So still on the road? And in a tent no less. At least it gives you some shade – it was 90 here today with 90 percent humidity. I hope its more pleasant where you are. Looking forward to your report tonight. While i don’t like hearing about Obama right now I do like seeing and hearing your reports – they always leave you something to think about. See you tonight!

Bruce Frankel   June 5th, 2008 8:46 pm ET

During last night’s AC360, it seemed that the consensus of opinions regarding the need for Obama to select a VP was that he should take his time, and make a wise selection based on his newly appointed search team. And, it was noted, that the media would probably not accept this, but continue to pester the question.

Sue enough. Tonight’s Campbell Brown program, featuring your interview with Obama pressing him for an answer and asking him why Clinton should not be on the ticket.

Why does CNN continue to perpetuate this question when your panel of so-called experts concluded that the question needs some space?

Back off, and move on. Let’s start devoting dialogue to more relevant “political” issues – like Obama vs. McCain.

Gary Chandler in Canada   June 5th, 2008 9:05 pm ET

While I believe Obama will make a great a President and I like his guest supporters on CNN, their temperament and, usually, honest approach; but can ya’all STOP with the ‘only in America’? Change that to ‘finally in America’. pulllease!!!
While you were the first to land on the moon, my Province has had an East Indian Premier, our Country has had a woman Prime Minister, a woman Asian Governor General, Aboriginal Cabinet Ministers. Declared gays have been reelected for many terms.
While there was sometimes doubt, joke, let us remember Thatcher was a woman Prime Minister, along with Indira Gandhi, Eva Peron and Bhutto.
Barack’s nomination is an ‘about time’ American achievement, NOT a world shaking historical event. That’s why, joke, Hillary took the edge off it.
Glass, ethnic, and rainbow ceilings have been broken for decades in the rest of the World.
For example, if Powell was the best person for VP, nobody in the other World democracies would say, ‘gee we can’t have 2 blacks on the ticket’, as would be shouted in America.
I believe Powell is the BEST choice, because 1. he was at odds with the Bush regime, 2. he has great foreign and security credentials 3. he would help with Independent and Republican support. 4. It would signal America make s decisions on the person, not the skin color.

Gary Chandler in Canada   June 5th, 2008 9:09 pm ET

If Powell cannot get on the list, because he is black, DROP KICK that notion into the 50’s!!!

Chas   June 5th, 2008 9:10 pm ET

Obama has a white mother and a black father why is he described as a black man? My kids are half Chinese but I wouldn’t call them Chinese. In Hawaii we have a word for it. Hapa, meaning half/half.

Marie   June 5th, 2008 9:11 pm ET

Candy the interview was odd and in the 45 second spot of how to get a 45 year old woman to vote for him he totally dropped the ball. Those woman who have sons in Iraq, he repeated that phrase “son” more than once it was like finally one of his dingbat supporters finally realized this ran over with a flashcard that read “SAY DAUGHTER” . It sounded insincere and as an after thought. It shows that he was not even thinking of woman as he made that statement. Please Candy ask some hardball questions of this man. Be a strong woman ask question. What kind of change, can you explain that in detail point by point. How will you do this? Where will you get the money? Press Obama on the issues. Make him explain himself and ask him not to use the word CHANGE in any of his answers.

Buckeyes 4 Obama   June 5th, 2008 9:33 pm ET

Hey, Candy!

I really liked your interview with the Big “O” today! You have one of the greatest jobs on EARTH!!! The PEOPLE that you get to meet…WOW!!! I really do appreciate the looser, more fun moments too. I was happy to hear that you finally got to “change” the other day…After all the “flight” mix-up and all!!!

I could care less about those stinky Lakers (no offense meant, Lakers fans)…But, our Cavies blew it so now I’m more focused on Barack Obama AND my Cleveland Indians!!! Go Tribe – AND Candy!!!

Have a GREAT night, and You ROCK, Girl!!!

Jan from Ohio

Sean , Trinidad   June 5th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

When will CNN give you Candy and Jack Cafferty your own show ?

Keep up the good work guys…..

Mary   June 5th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Candy, surely you can talk about something more important than basketball. Just a ho-hum kids game. Candy, there are big issues out there, people are losing their homes and find it hard to put food on their table.
On second thought, people with small minds like kids games.

Julia Johnson   June 5th, 2008 11:03 pm ET

It has been months since John Mccain was declared the preemptive nominee of the Republican Party. He has not discussed nor nor has he named a running mate. Barack Obama became the preemptive nominee of his party YESTERDAY! Why the rush/pressure on him to name a running mate. None of you media folks/stratgists are asking who will be McCain’s running mate or who is angling or putting pressure on Mccain for the position.

P.S. You got what you wanted. Hillary is not the nominee. You have demonized her enough. Let her be. Find another way to get ratings.

Spencer   June 5th, 2008 11:05 pm ET

Hey Candy, I heard the meeting was at Senator Diane Finsteins house..

Theresa Vnes   June 5th, 2008 11:15 pm ET

I think Americans are missing the point here. Hillary Clinton and primetime cable news made it clear that a large percentage of her supporters the working class uneducated whites would never vote for a black man. Well Barrack Obama will always be a black man. It’s going to take more than Hillary R Clinton and a dream team ticket to change their minds about voting for a black man.

betsy   June 5th, 2008 11:16 pm ET

Please please no Hillary for VP–that would be commiting political suicide and would run it for the democrats. She would be painted as black mailing him into taking her on the ticket and therefore would make him look weak!! All things would come out-the Clintons afterall do carry alot of baggage!

Also he would lose my vote which at this time he has. I am a 57 year old caucasion single woman.

Thank you,

betsy

rfuller   June 5th, 2008 11:16 pm ET

NO Hillory Clinton for VP. God have mercy!!!

Fred Hertel   June 5th, 2008 11:36 pm ET

No question that Obama will be best served by not having Hillary looking over his shoulder as VP (much less Bill lurking in the backgroud. Maybe Sec of State or a spot on the Supreme Court.
Obama should be thinking about retaining Sec of Defense Gates. His decisiveness and insistance on having accountability in the Dept is the best we have seen from any recent Secretary.

FCH

Garfield   June 5th, 2008 11:41 pm ET

Bravo Sandy Brown!!!

these fannatic Hillary supporters are anything else then tru democrats,
I won’t beleive them for a minute
Thank god H. Clinton and her 17 milloin voters won’t share the same view and support Obama now.

UNITED WE STAND DEMOCRATS!!!!!!!!

David   June 5th, 2008 11:45 pm ET

I love this analogy

Here’s a quick assessment of you brain on politics…Left liberals= Narrow Minded, unrealistic thought process, half sized partially damaged brain, too much grey matter , gross absence of neurotransmitters , irrational decision making , due to all of the above. In short , Left liberals elect politicians that have 0 experience, dubious and dangerous associations, radical racist clergy giving them advice, arrogance way off the chart, elitist that looks down (in secret) on all of the brain washed voters that voted for him. Sad but true.

Western-Kim   June 6th, 2008 12:17 am ET

We really enjoy your reporting and commentay. Hillary should not seek or accep the VP. Supreme Court Justice would be a much better fit wih her talents and long term impact. How do these kinds of postions (cabinet etc) get promised? How often are positions promised, how often are they delivered, how often are they not realized?

Carol   June 6th, 2008 1:00 am ET

Todd

How do you know why “the majority of African Americans” voted for Obama, as you say? FWIW, I live in TN and I am a 36 yr old white female supporter of Obama. My neighbor and friend is a 54 yr old black man who voted for Clinton in the primary, and now has no intention of voting for McCain. In fact I personally know no one here who has any intention of voting for McCain, although I am sure there are plenty. And I do not socialize with only one social class. I know poor, working class, middle class, academics, old money and new; religious zealots to atheists. Everyone agrees it’s time to clean house.

Lies can be told in all sorts of ways, including the use of statistics, generalizations, and lies to oneself. Obama may be a politician; but if he turns out to be insincere, at least he’s intelligent enough to know he appears in a better light by showing some character by being gracious and refusing to be sidetracked by red herrings and mudslinging from the very hard issues we are facing.

Miguel   June 6th, 2008 1:01 am ET

I guess you don’t care about Hillary lying about sniper fire in Bosnia. Or the records that show that she didn’t do much during the Bill Clinton years. Or the fact that Hillary said the race would be clinched by Super Tuesday in February, thus disrespecting her opponents.

You don’t need experience to know that US needs Universal Healthcare or that the War in Iraq isn’t making us safer.

Simon Gray   June 6th, 2008 1:26 am ET

Obama acts primarily out of Hunting Instinct. He talks in terms of facts, figures, data, research, and proof. We have become so used to leaders acting out of Warrior Instinct for the last 8 years, that we don’t realize what a leader can be if they act out of a different instinct. He flies under the radar of people acting out of Warrior Instinct. This will be very interesting to watch our transition as a species, as we move from leaders who are Warriors, to leaders who are Hunters.

jennifer bendik   June 6th, 2008 1:33 am ET

Well that is so good that the breaking news stories can now be all about how real and great of a person obama is. I mean, isn’t that why you wanted Hillary out of the race so long ago–so that you would have at least a half decent excuse for drooling all over him every day?! Basket ball?! Are you freakin kidding me?! Is it because he does not stand for ANYTHING or because he does not actually vote on anything or because he has not authored a single bill of substance or because he is so good at getting people kicked off of the ballot so that he can win or is it because he knows how to put his incoming funds into different columns so that he can say he does not take money from lobbyists or oil companies? Which is it? Or is it because he is black and the second you say anything bad about him he and everyone else plays the race card? Cause if this election taught me anything, it is that it is still okay to be sexist but not okay to be racist.

Trudy in Peoria   June 6th, 2008 3:19 am ET

Trying to guess who the next VP on the blue-side is going to be? Seems to me about a 70% chance it will be Kathleen Sebelius from Kansas. Her name has been popping up alot in the last couple of weeks. I totally think she would be a good choice. We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out. Right now, I’d say Hillary has a 5% chance of securing the VP position.

AbuHatem   June 6th, 2008 5:02 am ET

Candy you are so funny. God bless CNN for having you on there. You always fill our political junkie appetites.

Kristen- Philadelphia, PA   June 6th, 2008 6:28 am ET

Sean from Trinidad, the Candy and Jack show would be pretty cool to watch. Good idea
