Hello Anderson, Erica and Bloggees.

Looking forward to a great show

The pre show football game on the web cam was hilarious :)

CaseyJPS - California   May 29th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Hi 360 Bloggers!

Mike, Syracuse NY   May 29th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Greetings Bloggers. I hope tonight is as lively as last night!

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   May 29th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Good Evening Anderson and Erica :-)
I am ready for some REAL news from my favorite news show 360~

Megan Dresslar   May 29th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Hello Anderson and Bloggers!!!
I am back here tonight!!!!!!!!!
I am so shock that Surpeme Court told authorites take 400 children back their moms! I disagree with court ruling in polygamy Texas!

Wow! most record tornadoes!!!! my thoughts and prayers each states touchdown tornadoes.

I was so shock! what was pastor thinking!!! I am appalling what pastor was saying, I was watching Campbell Brown 2 hours ago.......

Zenta, New York, New York, NY   May 29th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Good evening, Anderson, Erica, and all!

By the way, that was so cute that Anderson laughed at a staff doing something before the show !

The show tonight should be interesting especially about Mr. Obama...

Sarah, Atlanta GA   May 29th, 2008 10:00 pm ET

Sounds like it is going to be a very interesting program tonite, Anderson.

Jennifer - Michigan   May 29th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Hi Anderson and Erica – looking forward to a good show tonight.

Kim   May 29th, 2008 10:01 pm ET

Hi Anderson, Erica and bloggers, good to join you tonight!

Can we maybe stop with all the third party comments that are making headlines? Of course, it's important what the candidates say, but hearing from everyone's pastors is slowly getting tedious...

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   May 29th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

That is total B.S.! Those brainwashed children should not be returned to be sexually abused even more.
SICK!
As a parent I am outraged!

Jo Ann, Ohio   May 29th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Hi Anderson and all! It sounds like a good program tonight; I can't wait to get started!

CaseyJPS - California   May 29th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

I bet some of the FLDS kids believe they have done something wrong, which is the really sad part of this whole mess. Can you imagine being "bounced" around like objects?

Mike, Syracuse NY   May 29th, 2008 10:02 pm ET

Amazing court ruling. I guess the courts will wait until a child is dead before they act.

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   May 29th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

Hopefully the FLDS will be kept under a microscope. The children are going home, but must be watched by authorities. I just hope they don't flee the State or go deep underground.

Kim   May 29th, 2008 10:03 pm ET

How long is it going to take until the court even knows what parents the children belong to? Or will htey be given back to whoever claims to be their parents?

Jolene   May 29th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Hello Bloggers! Well, after seeing those Warren Jeffs pics with the young girls, it does make you wonder. However, if they don't have substantial proof, then I guess it is only fair the children go back. Not sure if they will ever find proof. The FLDS seems so mysterious.

Kim   May 29th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

So the state has no right to take larger numbers of kids away from a potentially dangerous environment without proving every single case in the future? If their seems to be imminent danger this is simply impossible!

Julliet   May 29th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

Hi Anderson, Erica and Bloggers, sounds like an interesting show already. Does Warren Jeff's disgusting pictures that we saw yesterday have any effect on the case from now onwards.

Megan Dresslar   May 29th, 2008 10:05 pm ET

I think so.... Betty Ann in Texas,
I am agree with you....... right on! and me too that is my favorite AC360 news show!

Steve from California   May 29th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

The State of Texas must find a way to save those kids. Why doesn't it go after the adults?

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   May 29th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Always interesting getting Carolyn's point of view

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   May 29th, 2008 10:06 pm ET

Betty Ann, it does seem hard to believe they didn't find any evidence that would keep this from falling apart.

Kim   May 29th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

Another Jessop... Is there any information about birth defects or similar problems from everyone being related to one another in the compound?

Stacy   May 29th, 2008 10:07 pm ET

I was afraid of this. In the beginning it seemed like the state might have been jumping the gun. Obviously they wanted to get the kids out of the situation asap, but they should have made sure they had an air tight case before they moved forward.

Jana, Indiana   May 29th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

Good evening Anderson and fellow bloggers. Look like it will be a good show tonight.

deborah,OH   May 29th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

The pre-show game was very funny!
I don't understand how they can send those FLDS chikdren back, after those sickening photos of Warren!

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   May 29th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

Lorie Ann~ You are right but what about that gross pic of him on the 360 having a passionate kiss with a little girl?
Whew! I guess there is no easy answer girlfriend~

Jarrid   May 29th, 2008 10:08 pm ET

Evening Anderson and Erica and the many bloggers,
really looking forward to hearing more on this FLDS case. These poor children just don't know the reality of all this....

carmen   May 29th, 2008 10:09 pm ET

Good evening all, it clear that the state bungled this.

Jolene   May 29th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

I know the question was asked repeatedly on if the state could remove all the children like they did but it looks like in fact they shouldn't have. And to think it all started with a fake phone call too. This is just sad all the way around.

Julliet   May 29th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

I can't believe the state crew up on this case, the lives of these children may be in danger here.

CaseyJPS - California   May 29th, 2008 10:10 pm ET

Does anybody really believe the FLDS spokesman?

Tammy, Berwick, LA   May 29th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Hey everyone,

I don't get the courts. What happens when these people get their children back, go behind closed doors, and abuse their kids once again?

Amy in Lewisville, NC   May 29th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

it's hard enough to get CPS and the courts to protect one child, let alone a case like this...

HEY! Anderson! I told ya last, night- stop showing that picture.. GROSS!

Erica Hill
CNN
  May 29th, 2008 10:11 pm ET

Hi, everyone

Mike, Syracuse NY   May 29th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

I hadn't seen the pictures before. Jessup needs some Texas justice.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   May 29th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

more tornados......this is just getting crazy

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   May 29th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

Ah great, sex with a twelve year old. I can't believe they sent the innocent children BACK!

Sarah, Atlanta GA   May 29th, 2008 10:12 pm ET

Well the state of Texas certainly screwed this one up didn't they???

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   May 29th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Hey Erica!
Good to see you! I enjoy your blogs! :-D

Megan Dresslar   May 29th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

oh no!!! 12 years old with Warren, ewww!!! that is so sicken!

Jennifer - Michigan   May 29th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Hi Erica, glad to be with you tonight on the blog.

La Mar Allen   May 29th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

The courts have let those children and the american people down once again. My heart goes out to those children.

Minou, New York City   May 29th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Seems to me, they need to get all WOMEN out of there!

Saera El Paso, TX   May 29th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

it doesn't make sense to move all those kids and then move them back

carmen   May 29th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Hey back Erica I love Obama . He is the epitomy of the underdog. Keeps getting underestimated and keeps coming out a winner. It's so inspiring.

Kim   May 29th, 2008 10:13 pm ET

Hi Erica, all of you on AC360 are always the perfect way to end a work day.

Genevieve M, TX   May 29th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

That little girl in the photo Warrren Jeffs was kissing was only twelve?!? Ew!!

Warren Jeffs' is looking more and more like a true "Chester the Molester" than ever before!

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   May 29th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Tornados, hurricanes, cap melts, species extinct, Planet in peril much? Can we all say,"GLOBAL WARMING?"

Sarah   May 29th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

I live in Texas, and you guys wouldn't believe the amount of money the state is spending for the FLDS kids. And, now, it's all for nothing! The state of Texas and Child Protective Services (CPS) have spent millions, and those poor kids have to return home?

Kayle   May 29th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Ugh I understand why you have to show that picture but its something we all don't want to look at...and all of the kids are getting sent home.

Jolene   May 29th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

It will be interesting if the FLDS will be as friendly with the media as they have been once the children get reunited with their families. I will bet that they start shunning reporters again, probably more than ever.

Kim   May 29th, 2008 10:14 pm ET

Minou, or all the men, that might be easier logistically and would serve the same purpose ;-)

CaseyJPS - California   May 29th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Texas law enforcement did more harm than good by "jumping the gun," and not appropriately doing their homework first. I'd ask "What were they thinking?," but it seems clear they weren't. They went in with guns blazing. I'm simply not surprised.

Julliet   May 29th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Everyman on that Texas Ranch should be investigated, they might find some pictures similar to Jeff.

Jo Ann, Ohio   May 29th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

I still can't believe that the authorities weren't better prepared for this. It will be interesting to see just how they are going to target each individual family considering all of the numerous wives and children without stepping on someone's rights.

Sarah   May 29th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Why couldn't Texas take the men and leave the women and children on the compound?

Erica Hill
CNN
  May 29th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

thanks, betty ann :-)

i cant believe these tornadoes... sadly, all this activity makes me think back to a certain hurricane season, a time no one wants to relive

Tammy, Berwick, LA   May 29th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

No clue about TX, but I know dealing with child protective services in LA, the kids are basically given to the parents unless you can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt serious abuse. Even then, they'll try to put the kids back with the parents after the parents "rehab". I guess TX thinks the same way. It always makes me sick knowing this is how the system works (and is so screwed up for kids).

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   May 29th, 2008 10:15 pm ET

Sarah~
YES Texas mess this up at the expense of the children's saftey.
But we have the express lane to the penalty.
Raped children don't count?
TX Gov. Rick Perry made a terrible mistake!

Karen--Leesburg, VA   May 29th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

The problem with any closed group, and especially cults, is that they often redefine language and create insider terminology, so when they speak to us, we hear one thing when they actually mean something different. It is also common to teach members that it is OK to lie to outsiders, so long as they tell each other "The Truth." Very challenging to decipher..

CaseyJPS - California   May 29th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Did Anderson say "Civil Emergency?" I don't recall hearing that term before. Can someone explain?

Jarrid - Mississippi   May 29th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Is it just me or is the weather just out of control this year???

Carmen, Marina, CA   May 29th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

It seems the FLDS may be more of a mystery than we thought...how is it they are so insulated and isolated from mainstream society, shunning media exposure at every turn, and yet developed a well-ochestrated rally cry when the state of Texas intervened on behalf of the children? Far more media saavy than anticipated, far more cunning than we gave them credit for, perhaps.

EJ (USA)   May 29th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

Well, most states can hardly protect the kids they have in their custody now. I guess trying to protect 400 more wasn't going to work. Sad, weird, & unfortunate.

deborah,OH   May 29th, 2008 10:16 pm ET

What is going on with all these tornadoes this year?! Very scary stuff. Usually the storms dissipate by the time they get here.
Hi Erica. Nice to see you.

Lisette Chicago, IL   May 29th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

What do all of you think about Scott
saying that GWB authorized the CIA leak concerning Valerie Plume

Shoula Bush be indicted?

Stacy   May 29th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

This weather is crazy. A few days ago there was a funnel cloud spotted not far from my house and a few weeks ago one of my trees was ripped out of the ground and landed on my neighbor's car. Mother Nature needs to calm down and take a break.

James Taylor   May 29th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

The state of Texas messed up so badly. IT'S TRAGIC. I live in San Angelo Texas and have watched this transpire. Why haven't we heard if the children have been asked if they even want to return to Eldorado. I am somewhat ashamed that my fellow Texans did not pick up on these pervs. and action not taken earlier.

James Taylor

Saera El Paso, TX   May 29th, 2008 10:17 pm ET

ughhh the weather is getting worse and worse every year!!!

Tammy, Berwick, LA   May 29th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Erica, no we don't want to relive that, especially since people haven't gotten through the aftermath of the first one.

Megan Dresslar   May 29th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Wow! That is bad day for in Central Nebraska...... my thoughts and prayer who lost homes and business.......

deborah,OH   May 29th, 2008 10:18 pm ET

Yes, hurricane season starts next week, & it has been too quiet for a couple of years!

Janna   May 29th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

I was saying a similar thing today, Erica. Hurricane season is upon us here in Fla and Mother Nature seems to be on the warpath!

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   May 29th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

McClellen is probably telling the truth. We all know it's true, whatever difference it makes now.
Bush is outta here~

Carly,AL   May 29th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

hey anderson and erica

i agree erica and with last years hurricane season being so well dull it concerns me with all the tornado activity

helen   May 29th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Morality has gone to hell in a handbasket as well as the government ....from the local to the national. It is sad when you can't believe anything politicians say.

Suzi   May 29th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

Hi Anderson,

The photos of Warren Jeffs kissing those girls disgust me. I can't believe any court system would allow the kids to go back to a situation that could subject them to that sort of behavior. It makes me sick to my stomach.

Kim   May 29th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

I wonder if McClellan is scared now that the whole Bush administration is up in arms against him. He has made some powerful enemies...

CaseyJPS - California   May 29th, 2008 10:19 pm ET

I'll be at the bookstore on Monday morning to get my copy. I can hardly wait. I don't think the book is a case of "making charges" as much as it is an education for the American public. (I'll duck while you all throw tomatoes at me.)

EJ (USA)   May 29th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

I think the state of TX also underestimated the power the FLDS have (in numbers). State action was tried decades ago on this group and it didn't work then either.

The FLDS really know what they are doing .. and unfortunately for some of those children – this episode just made them stronger.

carmen   May 29th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

McClellan is being villified for what appears to be the truth - he's quickly become the republican's version of their "Judas" as Richardson was called by Carville for the Dems

Minou, New York City   May 29th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

I think the energy that the Bush-people put into discrediting McClellan proofs that there must be truth to McClellan's allegations...

deborah,OH   May 29th, 2008 10:20 pm ET

Has anybody said that there is a connection between all these storms & global warming?

Stacy   May 29th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

If McClellan was "out of the loop," shouldn't we assume right now Dana Perino is out of the loop and therefore not to be trusted?

Vincent   May 29th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

The Texas ruling is a bit perplexing .... especially considering the pictures of the LEADER of the FLDS church coming to llight showing him marryting and kissing minors. If this is what their glorious leader does and preaches, why is there a doubt that other kids are not in 'imminent danger' ??

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   May 29th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Well the CNN weather team certainly has been busy over the last few months

Mike, Syracuse NY   May 29th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

So McClellan's knowledge of the war came from filling in as a temp? His 'honesty' comes pretty late.

Jolene   May 29th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

McClellan has "loyalty" to the truth? If he was so loyal, why didn't he whistleblow sooner? He had to put it in a book too....so why exactly did he write this book when he could have just had a press conference to announce his honesty? Tomorrow's interview with Anderson should be good.

Cynthia   May 29th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

In most cases he is writing the truth as he sees it but should have done it sooner.

Jarrid - Mississippi   May 29th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I can say that all this weather activity has all of us on the gulf coast talking...NOW is the time to prepare!!!

Kim   May 29th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

Casey, I am with you on this. I need to see what I think after reading it myself. No tomatoes ;-)

La Mar Allen   May 29th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I live on the border of Iowa and Minnesota and where getting pummeled with lighting strikes and high wind rain.

Kathy, Chicago   May 29th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I'm looking forward to reading that book. Tomorrow should be interesting.

Jo Ann, Ohio   May 29th, 2008 10:21 pm ET

I guess the Republican Party will be crossing Scott off of their Christmas lists this year. They are really trashing him!

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   May 29th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

Anderson~
Of course the White House is saying McClellen has sour grapes~
They are not going to admit they are liars~

Minou, New York City   May 29th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

Great Anderson, I was wondering if you'd get him on your show.

I read the first chapter on my lunch brake. It's an easy read and definitely interesting... not too sure if I want to shell out 30 bucks, tho..

Karen--Leesburg, VA   May 29th, 2008 10:22 pm ET

If the state cannot validate with "physical" evidence, won't it be tough for the state to prove their case? Look at the statistics on standard preditory rape–One misstep and the accused goes free. X-times 400 and children. . . .

Kim   May 29th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

Lisette. with stuff like that people always make sure the president has plausible deniability, I guess. I wouldn't put it past him, but I am afraid there will never be proof.

deborah,OH   May 29th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

Thanks Casey! I didn't know McClellan's book comes out Mon. Guess I'll have to check it out.
Anderson & Erica, have either of you read the book completely?

Sharon Edwards   May 29th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

I just finished reading Carolyn Jessops book entitled "Escape" It was fascinating. I have a question...Why are there so many Families in the FLDS with the last name Jessop? Are they all related somehow?

Charles   May 29th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

What I find interesting is that the Administration and its supporters are attacking him, his reasons, his personality but not the statements and assertions he makes..........

CaseyJPS - California   May 29th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

"I think the energy that the Bush-people put into discrediting McClellan proofs that there must be truth to McClellan’s allegations…"

Excellent point, Minou.

Mary   May 29th, 2008 10:23 pm ET

Why can't they shut down the Polygamy farm. It not legal having all these wives that should be enough to close it down and protect the children.

Mike, Syracuse NY   May 29th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

Gergan has it right. McClellan needs to answer why.

Jarrid - Mississippi   May 29th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

I totally agree with Mary!!! About time someone said it! Hurrray!

Charles   May 29th, 2008 10:25 pm ET

I think that part of his motivation may be to undermine McCain's position. McCain has not endeared himself to the right wing of the party.......

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   May 29th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

I beginning to wonder if any of us know for sure anymore what or who's truth to believe.

Lisette Chicago, IL   May 29th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

We Americans all know that Scotts book is true
We knew this without the information
The Bush Administration are all criminals

Saera El Paso, TX   May 29th, 2008 10:26 pm ET

Mary- remember a lot of those multiple marriages are "spiritual" marriages?
i don't think they can do anything about those

Stacy   May 29th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Interesting how everyone is attacking McClellan personally (saying he's disgruntled...) instead of disputing his specific claims.

deborah,OH   May 29th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

Yes, Minou & Casey, great point.
The more the administration discredits the book, the more they are trying to hide something!

Jarrid - Mississippi   May 29th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

We all need to remember that our government works for us and we all need the truth, if this how we get it, then it high time we give it our full attention.

Ann   May 29th, 2008 10:27 pm ET

I thought Texas didn't put up with crap like Warren Jeffs. To send these kids back to these people. God help this country. Even if Jeffs is not there, his sickos are. These people are so brainwashed, they can't take care of themselves,,,,much less children. This is an outrage!

Julliet   May 29th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

The white house know that what Scotty is saying is true, so what do they do they attack his personality and not talk about the truth.

I always love David's point of view.

Kim   May 29th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Charles, good point! They are all trying to describe him as an outsider and how disappointed they are in him, but nobody has yet come out and said he is lying, it seems.

keena   May 29th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Hi everyone, Lisette I think Bush should be indicted, impeached, etc, but it's really too late. Fortunately his judge and jury will be the American people.

CaseyJPS - California   May 29th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Scott McClellan is very credible in his interviews. He does not stray from point and is very, very clear. I can hardly wait for Anderson's interview with him tomorrow night.

Jarrid - Mississippi   May 29th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Saera, spirtual or not, involving children is illegal!!

Steve from California   May 29th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

"Waging aggressive warfare" was one of the charges German Officers faced at the Nuremburg War Crimes Trial.

Kathy, Chicago   May 29th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

Is there any sort of basic ethics left in Washington?

Stacy   May 29th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

"Why is it too much to ask for the truth?"

Thank you, ethics guy!

Carmen, Marina, CA   May 29th, 2008 10:28 pm ET

I think McClellan raises a valid point re. why he didn't come forward before...it takes time to process and de-brief from a challenging and disheartening situation in which he found himself. It's been 2 years since he left the WH. I can certainly see it taking this long to come forward and I have no problem with his decision to write a book. A press conference would not have had "legs"; a book allows a discussion and airing of views, with the written word for reference.

Laura   May 29th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

David Gergen is so great, he knows how to put it all into perspective.

Mike, Syracuse NY   May 29th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

Gergan has a good point. There are versions of truth and interpretations of events that can be different.

Erica Hill
CNN
  May 29th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

Great chat there, eh? Loved that segment

Stacy   May 29th, 2008 10:29 pm ET

I greatly respect David Gergen, but I think he's wrong this time.

carmen   May 29th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

This thing about coming out earlier is ridiculous. If everyone in Washington "came out" with what they know about sex, lies and intrigue, there wouldn't be enough hours in the day. He did it when he was ready and when he felt was the right time. But at least he did it

Minou, New York City   May 29th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

The book is already available (at least in NYC at Borders).

"I'm beginning to wonder if any of us know for sure anymore what or who’s truth to believe."

Lori Ann>Do you wonder if all of our names ont his blog are accurate and if we really live where we indicate we do? :)

Nora L in CA   May 29th, 2008 10:30 pm ET

what is with obama and mccain and their pastors?

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   May 29th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Why would this priest's comments have anything to do with Obama. Why is everyone else words put on Obama's shoulders

Jolene   May 29th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Lively conversation! Great panel and questions Anderson. It will be interesting if anyone else in the Bush administration comes out and collaborates what McClellan claims in his book, especially if he is supposedly telling the truth.

Kim   May 29th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Saera is right, there is no legal case if the marriages are spiritual rather than legal, otherwise every affair would have to be legally prosecuted as well...

Shannon   May 29th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

Please no more pastor stories. I am so tired of them and they do not matter. We need an election based on the issues that will move us forward and improve our standard of living. I could care less about politics of association.

Megan Dresslar   May 29th, 2008 10:31 pm ET

David is right, I am agree with what he said...... he have good point about Scott McCellan........

LaShanda   May 29th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Anderson, please play the entire clip. Don't do the soundbites. Cause you know what he said was hilarious!!!

And you also know he wasn't talk about white people, he was mocking Hillary for her I got the "hard working Americans, you know, white Americans" comment.

I am cracking up at this pastor, it's like looking at an episode saturday night live.

Mary H - St. Louis, MO   May 29th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

"Ethics in Washington" now that's a oxymoron for you...

EJ (USA)   May 29th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

That church is just trying to get back into the news... and looks like they made it.

Lisette Chicago, IL   May 29th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

@ carman'
If Scott and Colin Powell had spoken out at the time
thousands of lives might have been saved

Claire   May 29th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

WOW, he sounds like a real Christian, huh? How sad.

teesha   May 29th, 2008 10:33 pm ET

Wow the video was a piece of theatre funny and truthfull

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   May 29th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

I can not believe that a Catholic Priest would act so foolish!
How embarrassing!

Nora L in CA   May 29th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

okay – he's as bad as Rev Wright...how come all of them are so racist?

Amy in Lewisville, NC   May 29th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

The timing of McClellan's book isn't important to me; I just think it's important that he finally came out and told his story.

“The truth is incontrovertible, malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end; there it is.” Winston Church Hill

Laura   May 29th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Poor Barak....not again.

Kitti   May 29th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

You have to admit that the "pastor eruptions" are getting more entertaining and provide a nice break from the stump speeches.

Genevieve M, TX   May 29th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Was that a sermon or a skit from Comedy Central?

Jacqui Chan   May 29th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

remember back in the day when "men of God" did not public mock people...

Gary   May 29th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Lets see...McClellan has said absolutely nothing new, provides zero evidence of any claim he makes...and you talk about how ethical it is for him to tell the truth! Journalism is reaching new heights.

Kathy, Chicago   May 29th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

What has happened to God in that church. They're all crazy. Obama needs to find a new church. I sure hope he doesn't take his kids to that church.

Charles   May 29th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

I really like Candy's perspective and her analysis......

Saera El Paso, TX   May 29th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

thanks Kim

Mike, Syracuse NY   May 29th, 2008 10:34 pm ET

Yet another datapoint on Obama. For someone who supposedly doesn't believe this stuff, there's sure a lot of it all around him. Maybe it's time he finds a new church.

Stacy   May 29th, 2008 10:35 pm ET

@Shannon–I agree. Let's stop the guilt by association and get to what matters.

Christine   May 29th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Never in my life have I heard that crap come out of a Catholic priest. I really hope he becomes a former priest or at least someone who cleans toilets. Some Catholic priests really don't pay much attention to the teachings of the Church. He only said sorry because his Bishop will have much to say.

Suzi, IL   May 29th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

Scott McClellan had every right to write that book. He gave his account of the truth, that doesn't mean that everyone who had access to the same information would have the same point of view.

Vincent   May 29th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

i like McClellan's term "coercive democracy" :-P

Cindy   May 29th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

This Rev. is ridiculous!! He was just pandering to the church crowd never thinking it would go outside those walls!

Kim   May 29th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

I think it's good that Obama has obviously learned to react quickly and hit back hard. This will serve him well in the general election against John McCain!

Jan from Wood Dale IL   May 29th, 2008 10:36 pm ET

By allowing Father Flagler do this within their church, shows the racist athmosphere that exists within the Trinity United Church of Christ.

Megan Dresslar   May 29th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

What Pastor was thinking?????? I am disagree with Michael Plefger's comment!!! that is so hurt Hillary Clinton......... I don't understand why pastor was mocking Hillary!!!

Sarah, Atlanta GA   May 29th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Those people in the background clapping and standing up when the priest was speaking shouldn't be encourgaing such foolish behavior.

Julie   May 29th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

We still do not know enough about Obama. The sexism in the background is deeply troubling.

Tammy, Berwick, LA   May 29th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

As a cousin of a Roman Catholic priest, I find this man's behavior horrific. I also heard that he was an advisor to Obama for over twenty years. Any truth Anderson or Erica?

Steve from California   May 29th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

This priest is a disgrace. I would think African-Americans would be offended by his pandering to them. Not only did he mock Hillary but it sounded as if was trying to imitate Jeremiah Wright.

Cynthia   May 29th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Senator Obama cannot control in any way what another person says.

Teresa Sharp   May 29th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

I live in Texas, and I am wondering what will happen with all the DNA testing that has been done. Does anyone know if the state will still be able to use the test results to prove their case that their is widespread child abuse as well as the ILLEGAL practice of polygamy? I am concerned that the higher courts may say that the lower court did not have a legal right to order the DNA testing.

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   May 29th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

I love Candy Crowley's point of view. Common sense!

Mike, Syracuse NY   May 29th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Gary. I agree. Where's the proff? Are there White House memos, corroborating statements for other insiders, anything?

Kim   May 29th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

"Efforts to bring our party together" and that from the Clinton campaign who are constantly trying to rewrite the rules to their advantage? This would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

CaseyJPS - California   May 29th, 2008 10:37 pm ET

Mike, Syracuse>Maybe it's time we start taxing the business of religion. I'm dead serious about this.

Carla Ontario Canada   May 29th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

This video just shows who the real racists are and I am so sick of Obama and his crazy associations.....Quit defending him !!!

Yvonne   May 29th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

The Republicans and the media made pastors an issue in this campaign. It's never been a issue in past campaigns.

Billi   May 29th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

I cannot believe that anyone thinks this "pastor" was funny.

Claire   May 29th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

I doesn't matter what you think of Hillary... the priest should never talk about anyone like that. Hillary has always worked to help civil rights and for the priest to insinuate that she's a racist and felt entitled because she was white is just so wrong.

Bren from Atlanta   May 29th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

I just watched the retraction from the priest and I quote, "...and I deeply regret if it offended anyone who saw them." What if we had not found out, Would they not been sorry then?? What about the people jumping up and down in agreement? Authenticity is what I want. I don't believe this anymore.

Connie from Ohio   May 29th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

whatever happen to separation of church and state? We are not responsible for what preachers say behind the pulpit.

Charles   May 29th, 2008 10:38 pm ET

Obama did not need this.....and you would think that given the Rev Wright incident, people would wise up about saying silly stuff.......

Jolene   May 29th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

This is politics at its best. My guess is there will be more YouTube-type soundbites coming out that will affect the candidates as we head toward the final primaries.

deborah,OH   May 29th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

More pastors! I thought they were supposed to be 'men of God', & preach the Gospel. Was I misinformed? I can't believe the things the priest is saying. It's almost embarrassing. Ugh!

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   May 29th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

The fact is a Priest was disrespectful to another human being. Not nice for anyone to do. Politics or not.

Jo Ann, Ohio   May 29th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

The church knew that Pflegler had a reputation for doing this before he came to speak there, so it was obviously something they were willing to allow.

Laura   May 29th, 2008 10:39 pm ET

I think the scary part is how into it everyone in the congregation is as well, not just the priest.

Kim   May 29th, 2008 10:40 pm ET

Steve, I am sure many African Americans find this just as awful! That guy's behavior is an insult to all intelligent people.

chitowngal07   May 29th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Cynthia:

I totally respect that Senator Obama cannot control what another person says or thinks but I'll tell you what my dad used to say, "Tell me who your friends are and I'll tell you who you are".

Mike, Syracuse NY   May 29th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Of course Obama can't be held responsible for everything said in his church. He can be held responsible for the fact that for 20 years this racist environment has been HIS CHURCH.

CaseyJPS - California   May 29th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Jan from Wood Dale>
"By allowing Father Flagler do this within their church, shows the racist athmosphere that exists within the Trinity United Church of Christ."

It's not just Trinity United Church of Christ, it's virtually every religion and every church. Churches inherently teach theirs is the only way, thus all of the wars of the world.

Elle   May 29th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

This sermon needs to be reported to the vatican and I am sure it already has.
Obama's church members react all to happy about insults and demeaning behavior .That is as disturbing as Obama being a member of this congregation .

Jo Ann, Ohio   May 29th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

This is getting to be ridiculous! Obama is “deeply disappointed,” but he still remains in the church. How many apologies are people willing to tolerate before they say enough is enough?

Cynthia   May 29th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

I don't think pastors should be an issue in the race. What about separation of church & state?

Jana, Indiana   May 29th, 2008 10:41 pm ET

Obama may not be able to control what another person says, but if they are continuing to have these kind of speakers at Trinity Church, I think the time has come for him to change churches.

Lisa   May 29th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

I have serious doubts about the democratic party. They're so tied up in Obama that they don't even see they're throwing this election away. This was a give-me year for them. But there is so much about Obama that has me shaking my head that this year I might be voting republican for the first time.

glen   May 29th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

If you want to know a person look at his friends...2 of a feather flock together. FATHER PFLEGER another friend of Obamas...sad just sad,

Carla Ontario Canada   May 29th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

I think it is great that Scott came out with his book, ppl need to know the truth good or bad. I am sure this wont be the last, seems the only way to make big bucks it to write a tell all book...

Connie from Ohio   May 29th, 2008 10:42 pm ET

how come McCain's minister that supports him can say anything and that is ok but when you get something on a preacher that preached where Obama attends (and he was not there) it's the worst thing. I remember in one of Hillary's campaigning speeches she was mocking Barack ...is that ok. Everyone is just trying to find something terrible about him. And I say again whatever happened to separation of church and state?

Karen--Leesburg, VA   May 29th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

Oh boy, another Pastor blunder! Let's see that gives us at least 1 Liberation Theology proponant, 1 Fundamentalist, and now a Roman Catholic. How about if we just go with "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" and quit with the theological side show?

Elle   May 29th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

A priest should be of human kindness examplary ,not this kind of demeaning talk of others .How sad and unkind to say the least .

CaseyJPS - California   May 29th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

Lorie Ann>
"The fact is a Priest was disrespectful to another human being. Not nice for anyone to do. Politics or not."

Being disrespectful of others or treating others as lower than ourselves is the ultimate in immorality.

Marie Lussoro   May 29th, 2008 10:43 pm ET

The custody ruling in the polygamy case is horrible. They are sending the children back into an environment of chaos. These kids are so emotionally confused that they cannot tell what is right or wrong because it's the only family life they know. The same can be said of the wives and mothers of these children. In what state is it legal to sexually and emotionally abuse children? If the mothers agree with this, what kind of damage does this do to the kids?

Jo Ann, Ohio   May 29th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

So much for being a "new type of politician." It sounds like the same old tactics to me.

Jana, Indiana   May 29th, 2008 10:44 pm ET

Why was this story not told before all of the primaries?

CaseyJPS - California   May 29th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

If the other candidates in don't know the rules, don't understand the rules, or can't abide by them, then they are simply not fit to be making decisions and helping to run this country, period. Crying foul or being critical of Obama is a moot point.

Ed   May 29th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

Cynthia – you're right Obama can control what others say but he can control who influences his opinions.

EJ (USA)   May 29th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

This sermon needs to be reported to the vatican and I am sure it already has.

I think the Vatican needs to focus on the Priests that they have shifted around the church in an effort to hide what has been going on for decades.

Laura   May 29th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

I read about this awhile ago in a Chicago paper and Anderson is the only one I've seen report on it.

Mike, Syracuse NY   May 29th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

Casey, I've never heard anyone in my church criticize another church or religion. I think you view on religion is very biased. Churches do teach their faith. That's what it's all about.

Cynthia   May 29th, 2008 10:45 pm ET

Not necessarily, Senator Obama started out as a community organizer and in that position you meet a lot of people.

Jo Ann, Ohio   May 29th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

It seems Obama is an old hand at disenfranchising voters. I am not surprised to see him bring his strong-armed Chicago politics into the presidential campaign.

Bob VA   May 29th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

While Obama is getting an ongping stream of super-delegates, he is losing a stream of rational voters, who see the real deal. Many riddles figured out about him, put him in a lesser light, while other ??? still remain.

Shannon   May 29th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

What is wrong with Obama winning by the rules? Isn't the alternative winning through cheating?

Zenta, New York, New York, NY   May 29th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Hm...it shows Mr. Obama is still not strong enough as Democratic Candidate...he needs to be strong really, not only as image...

Lorie Ann, Buellton, California   May 29th, 2008 10:46 pm ET

Well said Casey..Sometimes I wonder if we all have forgotten that.

Carla Ontario Canada   May 29th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Obama=strong arm tactics, but look innocent doing it...

CJ in NM   May 29th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

Exactly, Marie. These kids are damaged and the mothers and wives have no way of gauging what is appropriate or inappropriate because the way of life dictated by this church is all they know. It's going to get a whole lot uglier.

Cynthia   May 29th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

I'm sure if you check into the other candidates backgrounds there are people that would make you pause as well.

Julliet   May 29th, 2008 10:47 pm ET

I do agree that the pastor had no right to mock Hillary, but do we always have to put the words of these crazy guys on Obama?

Anderson, where art thou blogging? remember your new year's resolution.

Anderson Cooper
CNN
  May 29th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

sorry everyone, ive been having computer problems with my internet connection.. lively discussion tonite..

Yvonne   May 29th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

@Connie from Ohio, Good point. I forgot Hillary mocked Obama at her rally. I was surprised at that.

Teresa, OH   May 29th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

@Jana: it seems like someone was saving that delightful little tidbit for just the right time :)

Jacqui Chan   May 29th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

seems like there isn't a candidate around that will play fair
I want to be hopeful for the future but this is discouraging

Kim   May 29th, 2008 10:48 pm ET

So the same people who are saying Obama is too soft to fight back and too unexperienced to run for President now condemn him for using smart election strategies?

Megan Dresslar   May 29th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Cynithia,
You're right about that! I agree with you.......

Jarrid - Mississippi   May 29th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

it's okay Anderson, we all have had plenty to discuss tonight

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   May 29th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

I hope they gave you a new computer Anderson. You're sort of a VIP:-)

Jolene   May 29th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Anderson, you need to get a new computer!

Jim Corrigan   May 29th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Sereration of Church and state means that the U.S. government does not impose any church on us in the constitution. Meaning, we are free to practice any religion.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   May 29th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Welcome to the blog Anderson.....better late then never :)

Steven-Hixson,TN   May 29th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

Looks like Obama found a way to out manuever his opponents while staying within the rules. What's wrong with that?He discovered that the other candidates were not doing that. He's facing another candidate right now that doesn't want to abide by the rules either.Looks like he'll beat her, too.

Bonnie   May 29th, 2008 10:49 pm ET

So Obama really isn't the candidate of "change" - dirty politics alive and well!!

DJ   May 29th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Which part of "don't jump the primary calendar" did the decision makers in MI & FL miss? Were these rules unclear?

Darla   May 29th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Separation of church and state is not the question. The question is what kind of person is Obama, if he surrounds himself with people of questionable ethics or morals.

EJ (USA)   May 29th, 2008 10:50 pm ET

Anderson, you don't have to make excuses if you don't feel like blogging. It's all good! We still appreciate you.

Yvonne   May 29th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Obama is a winner and a smart leader. Just what America needs.

Al Kiessel   May 29th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Just saw Mary Frances Berry. She seemed very sure that the latest Obama pastor incident was a big deal. Was there any mention that she is a Hillary Clinton supporter? I see she contributed $2300 to her campaign. Sounds like an impartial expert on politics.

Kim   May 29th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

The information was always out there. When the rules are there, people have to stick to them. Whining about the rules after you lose is Clinton style politics. If even Alice Palmer does not accuse him now, why should we?

Mike, Syracuse NY   May 29th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Obama, a new type of politician? Yeah, right.

Megan Dresslar   May 29th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

ohhh Anderson,
sorry about internet problem tonight........ no worry.... just fix it!

Shannon   May 29th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

I agree, if you can't run an effective campaign than it is not a good indictment of how well you are going to serve.

Jana, Indiana   May 29th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

Teresa, I guess you are right. They wanted to wait till there couldn't do much damage.

Lisa - Ft. Lauderdale   May 29th, 2008 10:51 pm ET

I think what Obama did to win his first election is very telling – I learned a long time ago – if you want to know what someone is really about, watch what they do, not what they say....

kim-chicago   May 29th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Chicago politics is tough business...

deborah,OH   May 29th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Hi Anderson! What is up with all these computer problems lately? You are welcome, whenever you get here.

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   May 29th, 2008 10:52 pm ET

Nobody does the 360 bulletin better than Erica~

Maggie   May 29th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

Have been watching and listening about Obama's first electoral race. He played dirty then and he has played dirty ever since. Nothing new, just sad.

Billi   May 29th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

I tagree with Anderson that it is up to the voters to decide if the history of Barack Obama is a big deal. The problem is that the media hasn't given us much of the history. How about more investigative reports on any candidate?

Janna   May 29th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

A comic GENIUS! He will be missed...

Connie from Ohio   May 29th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

Well everyone was wondering if Barack is strong enough and it looks like in Chicago he was. I think he is strong when he needs to be. I think he has good wisdom about different situations.

Betty Ann, Nacogdoches,TX   May 29th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

Korman was so talented and funny.
He will be sorely missed :-(

Fay, CA   May 29th, 2008 10:53 pm ET

It looks like Obama is beginning to receive the kind of close examination that some have felt is long overdue.

carmen   May 29th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Betty Ann, Anderson should not only be provided with a new computer, but with his own personal IT person. It's important that he blog with us.

Jacqui Chan   May 29th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

that's a dingy lookin plane, I would wanna b on it

Suzi, IL   May 29th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Great show, great conversation here on the blog!!

karin dicker   May 29th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

I may be in the minority – who knows – but that priest talking I agreed with totally. I am white – 60 yrs. old and a woman – and the man did not lie. I was laughing. The truth sure hurts a lot of these sensitive Hillary people and the repugs. A lot of what rev. wright said too was true. Why can't people look at context?

Matt Tennessee   May 29th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Anderson, Today is a hit job on Obama. What did your boss advised you today.. Very unlike you.. (Jessica Yellin said it all)

Karen--Leesburg, VA   May 29th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Sounds like Chicago politics as it always has been–Read the book "Boss" and you will know where the advise to "Vote early and vote often" originated.

Megan O. Toronto, ON, Canada   May 29th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Thank you for showing the clip....I never saw the Carol Brunett Show (sorry I'm a youngin') Really was funny though

Jolene   May 29th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

I got a privilege to see Harvey Korman perform live. He had a great sense of humor. He will be missed.

DJ   May 29th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Hillary isn't being eliminated by "the rules" ... if she'd have gotten more votes and convinced more people that she was the best candidate, she'd have had this thing locked up by now.

Steven-Hixson,TN   May 29th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

Harvey and Tim were one of the greatest teams in comedy. We'll all miss him.G'nite everybody!

Patty Harris   May 29th, 2008 10:54 pm ET

I don't think deeply disappointed is enough and I don't think the priest regrets anything he said. He said those things for a reason – hmm wonder what that could be? This is very disturbing and what he said about Hillary is dispicable.

Megan Dresslar   May 29th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Harvey Korman was my favorite funny actor, when I was watching The Carol Brunnet show.......... rest in peace........

Zenta, New York, New York, NY   May 29th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Really interesting show tonight. Have a wonderful night, Anderson, Erica, and all, and cannot wait the show tomorrow!

Jennifer - Michigan   May 29th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Very funny clip! Have a great night – Goodnight, sleep tight, and pleasant dreams to you.

Jana, Indiana   May 29th, 2008 10:55 pm ET

Good night Anderson and all bloggers. Interesting program.

Tammy, Berwick, LA   May 29th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

Harvey Korman, what a loss!!! He was so funny.

Good night all...

Minou, New York City   May 29th, 2008 10:56 pm ET

The hour goes by so fast with all this good blogging going on!

Good night Erica, Anderson and all others!
Awesome show tonite.
